Romans Vol. 1 - Coming Under GracePaul sets the brilliance of the gospel against the dark backdrop of human sin, helping us see just how necessary and glorious it really is. Before we can celebrate salvation, we must first face the reality of our guilt and God's just wrath to understand our deep need for rescue.Sermon Preached by Chris Lewis on April 27, 2025Foothill Church exists to glorify God by living as disciples of Jesus who make disciples of Jesus. https://foothill.churchLearn about our For the Sake of His Name 2-Year Discipleship Journey: https://foothill.church/FTSOHN

"The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men." Romans 1:18The wrath of God is the expression of His infinite holiness, stirred to action against sin. It is not a sudden or irrational fury, but the steady and righteous opposition of a God who is light, in whom there is no darkness at all. A God who does not hate sin cannot be holy—and a God who does not judge sin cannot be just.Though men recoil at the thought of divine wrath, Scripture never hesitates to declare it. God's wrath fell upon Sodom, devastated Egypt, consumed rebellious Israel—and it will fall again with perfect justice upon all who remain in their sin. "Our God is a consuming fire!" Hebrews 12:29This wrath, however, is never arbitrary. It is always measured, and always just. Nowhere is this more clearly seen than at the cross. There, the spotless Son stood in the place of the guilty. The cup of divine fury was not withheld—but was drained by the Savior on behalf of those He came to redeem. In that awful hour, the depths of human depravity and the majesty of divine justice met. Christ bore not merely the punishment of Hell—but the wrath of Almighty God.Let lost sinners tremble—and flee to the only Refuge. Let the redeemed bow in reverent wonder. We were not merely spared from eternal ruin—we were rescued from the wrath of God Himself! All glory to the Lamb, who endured the curse, that we might receive the blessing."All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath!" Ephesians 2:3"God did not appoint us to suffer wrath,
This week, Alex and Greg dive into Werner Herzog's Aguirre, the Wrath of God, unraveling its haunting exploration of madness, ambition, and the human condition. They trace the film's philosophical undercurrents—from existential isolation to the limits of power—set against the backdrop of the unforgiving Amazon. Through sharp analysis and reflective banter, they uncover what Herzog's fever dream of conquest reveals about the nature of obsession.

God's Wrath Welcome back to this week's episode of our Christian podcast, where Brother Larry delivers a powerful and heartfelt message focused on drawing near to Christ in these spiritually challenging times. A Personal Word & Prayer Request Brother Larry opens with a transparent and humble request for prayer as he faces serious lower back issues and awaits a potential surgery. A Vietnam veteran, he shares how these health battles date back decades, and despite the pain, he continues to trust God and lift up his listeners in prayer. Spiritual Urgency in a Fallen World The core of this episode dives deep into Romans 1:17–32 (KJV), unpacking the active wrath of God against a world that suppresses the truth in unrighteousness. This is not just a warning for the future—it's happening now. As Larry emphasizes, “God gave them up…” appears three times in this passage, showing the consequences of rejecting divine truth.

God lytting!
This sermon examines what the Bible says about God's displeasure with unrighteousness, offering a strong warning against sugarcoating the Gospel. It also reflects on Jonathan Edwards' famous sermon, "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God," and contrasts it with the false Asbury "Revival" of 2023.

Episode Title: Self-Righteousness and The Wrath of God - Part Two Scripture: Romans 2:1-16In this episode, I continue my deep dive into Paul's teachings on divine judgment and wrath. I explore the distinction between present and future wrath and the impartiality of God's judgment. The role of works—not as a means of salvation, but as evidence of true faith.Paul makes it clear that God's judgment is based on truth, reality, and our response to the light we've received. No one will escape His justice, but through Christ, there is hope. The kindness of God leads us to repentance, and true faith in Him transforms how we live.Join us as we unpack this amazing but difficult passage and its implications for our daily walk with God.
Send us a textWelcome'Welcome back to our ongoing series exploring the Book of Romans. In this episode, we turn our attention to Romans 2:1-16, where Paul shifts his focus from the obvious sins of the Gentile world to a more insidious problem—self-righteousness. Paul directly challenges those who consider themselves morally superior, warning that no one escapes God's judgment by comparing themselves to others. Instead, divine judgment is based on truth, works, and knowledge, leaving no room for excuses.Key Themes DiscussedThe Universal Nature of SinIn Romans 1, Paul established that all people are unrighteous before God.Romans 2 confronts those who assume they are exempt from judgment because of their religious or moral standing. The self-righteous individual, who looks down on others, is still without excuse.God's Judgment is Based on Truth (Romans 2:2-5)God does not judge based on appearances or reputation but on reality. Many people assume they are safe because of their perceived moral superiority.Paul warns against taking God's patience as a sign of His approval.God's Judgment is According to Works (Romans 2:6-11)Paul affirms that God “will repay each person according to what they have done.”Those who persist in good will receive eternal life, while those who reject truth will face wrath. This judgment is impartial—both Jews and Gentiles are accountable.God's Judgment is According to Knowledge (Romans 2:12-16)Those who sin without the Law will perish apart from it; those who sin under the Law will be judged by it.Paul highlights that even those without direct revelation have an internal moral compass, evidenced by their conscience.Ultimately, God will judge all people through Jesus Christ. The Wrath of GodPaul's teaching on divine wrath emphasizes that judgment is not arbitrary but the inevitable outcome of a life lived in rebellion against God. Throughout Scripture, God's wrath is seen as a necessary consequence of rejecting His holiness and righteousness.Old Testament Context: God's wrath was often tied to covenant violations and the oppression of Israel.Prophetic Warnings: The Day of the Lord was seen as a climactic moment of divine judgment.New Testament Perspective: Paul speaks of God's wrath as both a present reality and a future certainty.ConclusionSelf-righteousness blinds people to their need for God's grace. Paul dismantles the false security of those who judge others while ignoring their own sin. The message of Romans 2 is clear: no one is exempt from judgment, and all must seek repentance.Thank you for joining us for this episode. In the passage that we're going to study in this session, there are clear signs of idolatry among the children of Israel. And the first thing we're going to learn is this, nothing good comes from idolatry. Now we can understand it differently. “Anyone who even thinks of abandoning this mission will be cut up into a thousand pieces…I am the wrath of God!” At the height of the age of exploration, during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, one story in particular gripped the imagination of European colonialists: El Dorado, a legendary city of gold, hidden in the very heart of the South American Rainforests. But no kingdom sought this prize more furiously than the mighty Spanish Empire. Determined to restore their fortunes with El Dorado's treasures, they sent countless expeditions in search of the golden city, to no avail. Then, in 1559, the authorities in Lima assembled a new expedition, bigger and better than ever before, under the leadership of the knight Pedro de Ursula. The group he mustered to go with him would prove ill chosen indeed. Among them was his famously beautiful mistress, Dona Inez, and more ominously still, a fierce eyed, limp-footed man by the name of Lope de Aguirre. Little did his companions know that they had a devil in their midst. Aguirre would prove to be one of history's strangest and most unsettling characters, and one of the great villains of the Spanish conquests of the New World. Cruel and psychopathic, he would eventually violently usurp Ursula's command, and lead his companions not in search of El Dorado, but further and further into the Amazonian interior, enacting a regime of paranoid terror as they went. It would prove to be one of the strangest, most gruesome, and also the most horrific journeys of all time, replete with murder, betrayal, treason, and above all, madness…. Join Tom and Dominic, as they discuss the iniquitous Spanish conquistador Aguirre, and his journey both into the heart of the South American wilderness, but also into human madness. It is a story of mystery and adventure, gold and greed, horror and death. In our latest teaching series, Pastor Nelson delved into 'The Gavel and the Judge', exploring the complex topic of God's wrath. God's wrath isn't separate from His love, mercy, and justice; it's a demonstration of His holiness, righteousness, and jealousy. As Hebrews 10:30 reminds us, those who break the law will be judged. God is merciful to the repentant and wrathful to the unrepentant. God judges by His own standard, and no one can meet them except you're covered by Jesus' atoning blood.God's wrath is not the absence of God, but the presence of His majesty to judge, often provoked by humanity's wickedness (Genesis 18:25-26). Listen to this sermon to understand the theological basis of God's wrath, rooted in His holiness (Romans 1:18), righteousness (Romans 2:15), and jealousy - one of His very names.

Revelation 6 begins the first set of "7's" that are found in the book of Revelation: the 7 seals, the 7 trumpets, the 7 signs, and the seven bowls. Each set of "7's" ends with the Day of the Lord. But what is "the Day of the Lord"? And what will happen when it comes? Who are the four horsemen, and what do they have to tell us about the world we live in today? Lastly, who are the "144,000"?If you've ever been curious about any of these questions, or if you've never even thought about them but reading the description of this episode has you curious, then have a listen as we unpack the first 6 seals of Revelation. We're glad you're here! Let's get into it :)
