This is from our Advent Series, Waiting for Christmas. Sarah Schneider Watson, co-lead pastor, is speaking on the way that Jesus came to be one of us on Christmas. John 1:1-14 tells us this wonderful mystery was hinted at since the beginning, that God would become one of us.

Pastor Mitch discusses the "origin story" of Christ, and how the gospel of Mark and Luke describe Jesus's beginnings all in a slightly different manner.

Jesus is the word of God. He is the fulfillment. He is everything that Moses wrote about in the Old Testament. Have you been through a dark time? It's during those dark times that you really come to appreciate the Light. We are living in a fallen world, it's a wonderful world because it's His creation, but we do live in a fallen world where the light is not shining like it should. God is not looking for part time Christians. We need to partake in Him full time. We have an adversary, the devil. He is trying to blind the eyes of folks so that the light of the gospel doesn't reach folks.

The purpose of the author, John, is that we might believe. Believing is only one piece of the puzzle. The Bible says that even the devils fear and tremble because they believe. In order to believe in Him, we first must know that He is real. He's not one that someone just decided to write about. John wrote many things so that we may believe. He was our eye witness. God had you on His heart before the beginning. The bible is just what God wanted, all that God wanted, and only what God wanted. The Bible has been preserved through shed blood, through wars, through acts of providence that man knows nothing about. It's been preserved and maintained through centuries. Don't trust your heart! It's influenced by your old sin nature. The more we're into the word, the less the World is into us.

In this sermon Pastor Keith explains how Jesus the Eternal Word became flesh and dwelt among us. He displayed glory that was seen and written about by Apostles so that that we might see it as well and believe in Jesus. And Pastor Keith also gives seven implications of the incarnation. 1. The Incarnation tells us of the generosity of God (Grace,2 Corinthians 8:9) 2. The incarnation manifests of the love of God (John 3:16 4:9) 3. The incarnation highlights the faithfulness of God (Matthew 1:21-23) 4. The incarnation shows us the humility of God(Philippians 2:5-9) 5. The incarnation points to the sympathy of God (Hebrews 2:17-18, 4:15-16) “Did the Word become flesh? Then He is One who can be touched with the feeling of His people’s infirmities, because He has suffered Himself, being tempted. He is almighty because He is God, and yet He can sympathize with us, because He is man.” J.C. Ryle 6. The incarnation brought us the presence of God. (John 1:14, Matthew 1:23 ESV) 7. The incarnation was a display the power of God. (Luke 1:34-38)
Pastor Jon will be preaching the first message in a seven-part series called "Be the Message." http://bible.com/events/696837
John 1:14 " The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth."
John 1:5 " The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."
"In him was life, and the life was the light of men." John 1:4 ESV
John 1:3 ESV "All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made."
The One God who has created everything wants us to be in close relationship with Him, and He has made this possible through Jesus.
