Today, pastor Lloyd will put the finishing touches on on our Christmas series by taking us to John's gospel for a message titled "The Light of the World". This world is certainly in need of a some light, wouldn't you agree? Jesus came to the earth to provide that light and to show us the way to heaven - by dying on a cross for our sins.

Our world is in a desperately dark condition, but thanks be to God, who sent us His Son, Jesus, the Light of the World. In this message, Adrian Rogers reveals five things about the light of Jesus Christ.
In Luke 2, the birth of Jesus unfolds against the backdrop of empire, power, and divine promise. As Caesar Augustus issues a decree meant to display his authority, God sovereignly fulfills His own—bringing the true King into the world through humility, obedience, and grace. This sermon traces the contrast between earthly power and heavenly kingship, showing how God orchestrates history to keep every promise He has made. From Joseph's righteousness and Mary's quiet faith, to a Savior laid in a manger and announced first to shepherds, we see that God's purposes are not hindered by obscurity or suffering. Jesus is revealed as the true Son of God, the greater Savior, and the Prince of Peace—bringing peace not through dominance, but through the giving of His own life. The good news announced to the shepherds is still good news for us today: God is faithful, His promises are sure, and this Savior in the humble manger has been born for you.
"Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'" John 8:12
Today we continue pastor Lloyd's series for the Christmas season. We''ll be looking at the reason Jesus came to the earth today - to shine the light of righteousness and salvation, in a dark and troubled world. Scientists will tell you that even as advanced as science knowledge is, we still don't know all that much about light. Lloyd will tell us about the greatest light - and the brightest - God's light!

Hindsight is 20/20. From our modern perspective, some of the ideas about Jesus during his day are hard to fathom. How could they miss it? But is it possible that parallels to this blindness are all around us today? Our study looks directly at this question.John 8:12

You are the Light of the World; Matthew 5:14-16 by Rev. Josh Hall, Senior Pastor, on December 21, 2025, at FBCTLH. Third Sunday of Advent - LOVE
Are you so busy this season that you might miss the hope God is placing right in front of you?In Luke 1:26–56 we're reminded that God often speaks and works in quiet, ordinary moments. As life speeds up, this passage invites us to slow down, pay attention, and recognize the hope God is offering—often in ways we don't expect and in moments we're tempted to rush past.At New Promise Church you will see people of all ages, from a variety of backgrounds, and at different stages of their spiritual journey. We desire to draw closer to Jesus by understanding who He is and what He has done for us.
More than two thousand years ago, God broke through the barrier separating sinful humanity from a Holy God and took on human flesh in the form of a tiny baby. Christianity says all of human history had been building to that monumental event that separated time. Why did God, the creator of the universe, decide to enter our world, not as an avenging angel, but as a vulnerable and innocent baby? It's because of love. On this episode of the Lighthouse Faith podcast, Lauren revisits a conversation with best-selling author Pastor Max Lucado to talk about the true meaning of Christmas. Christmas, says Lucado, "begins what Easter celebrates." The two highest holy days of the Christian calendar are eternally linked. While Christmas has become much more commercialized with shopping and Santa taking center stage, it hasn't changed the reality that the peace and joy we talk about on Christmas cards and ad slogans flow only from this one event, the birth of Jesus: "For God so loved the world!" The central theme of this podcast episode revolves around the profound intersection of science and spirituality, particularly as it pertains to the concept of light. We engage in an enlightening dialogue with Dick Foth, who shares his insights on the significance of light both as a scientific phenomenon and as a metaphorical representation of hope and divine presence. Throughout our discussion, we explore the multifaceted nature of light, its essential role in the universe, and its profound implications during the Christmas season, a time often associated with illumination and reflection. As we traverse this topic, we aim to draw connections between the scientific understanding of light and its spiritual connotations, emphasizing its importance in our lives and its capacity to bring clarity in times of darkness. Ultimately, we hope this conversation serves as an encouragement to our listeners, especially during this reflective season, to contemplate the illuminating power of light in both the physical and spiritual realms.Takeaways: The podcast emphasizes the significance of light as a metaphor for life, hope, and clarity. A conversation with Dick Foth illustrates how light serves as God's signature in the universe. The discussion includes how light is essential for life, both physically and spiritually, especially during the Christmas season. Listeners are encouraged to reflect on their relationships and connections as sources of light in times of darkness.

Jesus spoke many times about light and darkness. In John 8, Jesus claims to be the light of the world. Why is that such a big deal? And what does that mean for Jesus followers today?

Throughout his writings, the Apostle John uses the imagery of light frequently to illustrate the need for Jesus in our lives. In this lesson, Evangelist Gavin Williams traces this thread through the books of John, 1 John, and Revelation to help us become children of light.
The Life and Light of The World - John 1:4-5
The Fulness of the Story of Christmas This Sunday episode is based off this talk in 2016 from a Christmas Devotional. "Chritmas invites feelings of tenderness, joy and love". 2025 is coming to a close, what did you learn?
“JESUS: Light of the World”The 19th-century English preacher, William Lonsdale Watkinson, once said, “It is better to light a candle than curse the darkness.” It is easy today to curse the darkness, since there is so much of it and we get tired of being engulfed by it. But Watkinson was right. Jesus came into this world of darkness as the LIGHT (John 1:4–5). Only He can dispel the darkness of the world. And yet this Light of the World, who resides within each of us as His followers, calls us to shine as His lights in this world (Matthew 5:16). We can either curse the darkness or share the light of Christ with someone and, by doing so, see another candle lit to dispel the darkness. This Christmas, as we celebrate the Light of the world, let's remember our calling to share that light with someone else rather than curse the darkness around us.

Sermon Text: John 1:6-18
In this podcast Nathan Potts preached on John 1
Warm-Up Share a time when a light has brought you comfort. Scripture Read together: Matt 5:14–16 Eph 5:8–14 As you read, listen for words that describe identity, purpose, and love. What words or phrases stand out to you? Observation: In Matthew 5:14, Jesus says, “You are the light of the world.” Why do you think Jesus begins with a declaration rather than a command? Jesus describes a lamp hidden under a bowl as absurd. What does this image tell us about the purpose of light—and the purpose of our faith? In Eph 5:8, Paul says we were once darkness, not just “in darkness. How does that deepen your understanding of what grace really does in a person's life? According to Eph5:9–14, what does walking in the light produce? Which of those feels most needed in your life right now: goodness, righteousness, or truth? Application: Where do you sometimes feel pressure to “manufacture” light instead of simply reflecting Jesus? What are some subtle ways we might hide God's light—fear, comfort, busyness, self-protection?What would “faithful presence” look like instead of performative faith? Matthew 5:16 connects light with good deeds motivated by love. Who in your life right now might need the tangible love of Christ, not advice or correction, just presence? The sermon reminded us that even a single lumen pushes back darkness. What is one small, faithful act of love God may be inviting you into this week? “What is one way this series has reshaped how you think about light, love, or your role in the world?” Prayer Invite the group to pray silently for a moment, reflecting on where God's light has changed them this Advent. Then close with a prayer like this: Jesus, Light of the World, thank You for shining into our darkness and changing who we are. Thank You that we do not have to create light, earn light, or shine perfectly— only to reflect what we have received from You. As Advent closes and Christmas comes, help us walk as children of light— loving faithfully, showing up consistently, and bringing Your grace into places that feel heavy or dim. Make our lives point beyond us to You, so that others may see Your love and give glory to our Father in heaven. Amen.
John 1:1-4, 8:12; Revelation 21 (Sylvester Siu)

Have you ever wondered why good things happen in a world filled with chaos? In this episode of Charis Daily, Daniel Bennett challenges the common question of why bad things occur, diving deeper into the surprising reasons behind the good in our lives.
Together, let's explore the moment the prophet Isaiah's anticipation of light becomes the reality of the Light of the World among us. We'll explore the profound meaning of Christ's light shining in our world by examining Bible passages that describe his birth, life, and the hope he brings, and what this means for how we live as children of light.
In this week's message, Pastor Scott explores the biblical narrative of the angel Gabriel's announcement to Mary, emphasizing the significance of Jesus as the eternal Son of God and the fulfillment of prophetic promises. He encourages us to respond in faith and obedience to God's word, highlighting the vital connection between a reverent fear of God, divine favor, and the personal call to action we each receive from God.
In this week's message, Pastor Eric discusses overcoming fear with faith, using the story of Mary's encounter with the angel Gabriel as an example of finding the strength to face daunting challenges with trust in God. He encourages us to open our hearts to God, reminding us that nothing is impossible with Him and urging us to embrace our potential and the opportunities for faith-driven change in our lives.
