We needed a little holiday break, so please enjoy two recent Patreon episodes we really enjoyed, out from behind the paywall! From a few months ago, please enjoy "Ep 218: Time Traveling Caveman Shepherds, Marvin Luther, and Two Cities Falling in Love" and "Ep 220: Mike Tells a Lie, a Shadowy Psychologist Cabal, and our Rank on Earth." Also, a correction. I, Josiah, mixed up the lyrics of Angels We Have Heard on High and so our entire movie idea that is based on the lyrics to that song is based on nonsense. But! It is still a very enjoyable and goofy ride. So sorry for that! I hope no one's holiday is ruined! You can contact the show at agoodpodcast@gmail.com and find us @HowStarWarsIsIt on all platforms, but since all platforms are kind of evil now, you should probably just email us. That's the best way to get a hold of us! You can also follow Mike @WordGospel09 on Youtube and Instagram and Josiah @JosiahDotBiz on social media, but once again, just email us. And don't forget to rate and review on iTunes, or wherever you get your podcasts! And if you REALLY like the show head over to our Patreon at patreon.com/howstarwarsisit for bonus episodes, Star Wars movie commentaries, and more!
S7 E11: Christmas Tea with Jane AustinUnwrapping the GiftsThere is something timeless about sharing tea at Christmas. It is a ritual of warmth and conversation. This year, I invite you to join me for A Christmas Tea with Jane Austen, a special Tea, Toast & Trivia episode that celebrates the enduring gifts Jane left to us: wit, companionship, and resilience. My own journey with Jane began in Bath, where her world comes alive in the graceful curves of the Crescent and the lively spirit of the Assembly Rooms. It found its quiet conclusion in Winchester Cathedral, where she rests beneath a simple stone that belies her extraordinary legacy. Between those two places, Bath's laughter and Winchester's peace, I began to understand how deeply Jane's voice continues to echo across time.In this Christmas reflection, I explore how Jane's humour sparkles like gold, how her characters offer companionship like frankincense, and how her courage shines through life's trials like myrrh. Together, these three gifts remind us that love, friendship, and laughter remain, as ever, the true riches of our lives. So brew a pot of tea, find a quiet corner, and join me for a Christmas tea with Jane Austen, a woman whose words continue to illuminate the human heart. From my family to yours — may your Christmas be bright, and your New Year gentle!RebeccaMusic by Epidemic SoundChristmas On My Mind (Instrumental Version) by About Ivy https://www.epidemicsound.com/mu...Angels We Have Heard on High (Instrumental Version) by Jordin Sparks https://www.epidemicsound.com/mu...Silent Night (Instrumental Version) by Jordin Sparks https://www.epidemicsound.com/mu...AcknowledgmentWith heartfelt thanks to the many wonderful participants of the Jane Austen Festival 2023 in Bath, England (https://janeausten.co.uk/pages/f...) , whose enthusiasm and creativity bring the Regency world to life each September. The photographs shared here were taken during my visit and are presented in celebration of Jane Austen's enduring legacy. This series is offered purely in appreciation of literature, history, and the community that continues to honour her spirit.

Dr. Arthur Just of Concordia Theological Seminary-Ft. Wayne, IN Heaven on Earth: The Gifts of Christ in the Divine Service Concordia Commentary: Luke 1:1-9:50 Concordia Commentary: Luke 9:50-24:53The post The Christmas Hymn, “Angels We Have Heard on High” – Dr. Arthur Just, 12/25/25 (3592) first appeared on Issues, Etc..
This week we explore “Angels We Have Heard on High”—a song that doesn't just retell the Christmas story, but shows us how to respond to it. We'll look at how God initiates, how His glory breaks into ordinary places, and how the shepherds model a faith that moves. Above all, we'll behold the God who made Himself visible in humility—the Child in the manger who is also the Lord of glory.Along the way, we'll wrestle with questions that press into the heart of Christmas:· What does it mean that God reveals Himself before we ever seek Him?· Why does God's glory overwhelm before it comforts?· What moved the shepherds from fear to worship to proclamation?· Why does true joy in Christ provoke curiosity in others?· And what does it mean that the God of glory became small enough to behold?Join us as we trace the song, the Scriptures, and the Savior who still interrupts, awakens, and calls us to Himself.Support our mission and learn more atwww.alloflife.churchGive to the work of the gospel herewww.alloflife.churchcenter.com/giving
The birth of Jesus wasn't just a sweet story. It was a spiritual breakthrough. This message dives into the angelic announcement in Luke 2, reminding us that Christmas is a collision of heaven and earth, and an invitation to live aware of the unseen but very real spiritual reality around us.
Pastor Nick contrasts today's fear-driven news with the good news of Advent, reminding listeners that the stories we listen to shape who we become. In Luke 2, God delivers heaven's headline first to humble shepherds, showing that He sees the overlooked and brings peace, joy, and salvation through Jesus—Savior, Christ, and Lord. The shepherds and Mary model both bold sharing and quiet faithfulness, calling believers to let heaven's better news shape their lives and overflow to others. #Advent #GoodNews #JoyForAll #Luke2 #ChristmasHope
The Glory of Jesus Christ
Jesus' birth unleashed a cosmic celebration unlike anything that has ever happened; rejoice with the angels in praising God for His Son.

To snowy Ontario, Canada for our 2026 Christmas Special! Living out the dream of countless exhausted women, Laura Lee Davidson retreated to an island in the middle of a lake, and lived there alone through a long Canadian winter. But she wasn't really alone. Wild creatures became her friends, and she was constantly the recipient of neighborly kindness from folks on the mainland. Laura Lee's 1922 book about her winter on the island is now considered a classic of Canadian literature, and a vivid portrait of time gone by. Katie reads some of her favorite excerpts from the book, and we all tag along with Laura Lee Davidson, retreating into a remote winter solitude, and marveling at the wonders of nature. ___________________________________ Find Laura Lee Davidson's A Winter of Content HERE, or read a digital copy HERE. Luke 2:8-21. In this message we turn up one of the most iconic songs of all time—the angels' “Gloria in excelsis Deo.” Before it became a lyric we stretch out in “Angels We Have Heard on High,” it was heaven's announcement that God Himself had stepped into our world. We explore how the angels' song reveals the true purpose of Christmas and the result of Christmas. As we revisit the shepherds, the manger, and the miracle, we'll rediscover the wonder we often lose in the routine of the season. Slow down, receive His peace, and learn how to carry it into a world desperate for the hope only Jesus brings. For upcoming events and important announcements at Skyline, visit our Facebook page for the latest details! If you'd like to check out more resources, get to know Skyline Church, or donate to our ministry and missions please visit www.skylineofallon.com. Welcome to Week 3 of our Advent Devotionals on Scripture and Carols! Today, Pastor Jason Van Bemmel from Forest Hill Presbyterian Church shifts our focus to the joyful announcement of Jesus' birth with the classic carol, "Angels We Have Heard on High". In this devotional, we look beyond the "tinsel halos" of children's nativity plays to rediscover the true, terrifying glory of the heavenly host that appeared to the shepherds. We also explore the fascinating history of this carol, which originated as an 18th-century French folk song, Les Anges dans nos campagnes. In this video, we cover: Scripture: A reading of Luke 2:8–15 and the angels' message of good news. Fear vs. Joy: Why the shepherds were filled with "great fear" and how the angel addressed it. Lost in Translation: The theological difference between "good will to men" and the more accurate "peace among those with whom He is pleased". The Conqueror: How the original French lyrics dramatically describe Jesus as a "Conqueror" and "Liberator" rather than just a baby in a manger. The Chorus: The meaning of the Latin refrain, Gloria in excelsis Deo. Join us as we prepare our hearts to sing "Glory to God in the Highest" and trust in the Savior who came to conquer sin and death.
When I came to faith in Christ at age 19, I found it remarkable that many of the Christmas songs I had sung in my childhood spoke of Jesus. I knew of a silent night and a holy night...but I couldn't tell you of their significance. Though prominent in so many songs of the season, the birth of Christ was lost on me. In this Christmas carol, we consider the history, theology, and glory of the Incarnation – that God became a man – which is good news of great joy for all people! This week on Preach, we're offering an Advent treat. Host Ricardo da Silva, S.J., sits down with fellow producer Maggi Van Dorn for a rare on-mic conversation about the spiritual power of Christmas carols. Drawing on their work as producers of another America podcast, “Hark! The Stories Behind Our Favorite Christmas Carols,” they reflect on what these songs can teach preachers: that the liturgy is more than the homily. that beauty itself does theological work: it's not just what is said, but how it's delivered. The structure, rhythm, and form—whether in music or a homily—carry meaning and touch the heart. that good preaching must reach the heart before the mind. After their conversation, we bring you the second episode of “Hark!” Season 5: “Angels We Have Heard on High.” Support Preach—subscribe at americamagazine.org Learn more about your ad choices. Wayne Hanson sings his favorite Christmas Carols from his years as a Bell Ringer!
Christmas carols are, likely, some of the earliest songs most Americans learn, and at the same time, are probably among the earliest music still performed in popular American culture. Many of the familiar songs of the season date back hundreds of years, and the origins and lyrics of the songs have been lost or changed over time. We sing along every year, tapping into those familiar nostalgic feelings. But do we really know where these festive songs came from, or what they're actually about? Gather ye kith and kin around the hearth – or the modern equivalent, the Bluetooth speaker – as the Great Pop Culture Debate explores the history of holiday staples and attempts to name the Best Traditional Christmas Carol.Songs discussed: “O Come, O Come Emmanuel,” “O Tannenbaum/O Christmas Tree,” “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,” “Away in a Manger,” “Carol of the Bells,” “The Twelve Days of Christmas,” “Here We Come A-Wassailing,” “Jingle Bells,” “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen,” “The First Noel,” “Silent Night,” “Do You Hear What I Hear?” “Angels We Have Heard on High,” “Little Drummer Boy,” “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” “Joy to the World”Join host Eric Rezsnyak and GPCD panelists Trey Radu-Blackburn and Zack Derby as they discuss and debate 16 of the most recognizable holiday carols of all time.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

It's that time of year again! And for this rare holiday equinox which sees Easter, Passover, and 4/20 overlapping, we endeavor to cover some weed-tacular winter holiday songs with more of a religious connection than in previous years. We find great joy in the sincere silliness of "Little Dealer Boy" performed by Willie Nelson and Stephen Colbert. Then, unfortunately, we really fucked up by listening to "Angels We Have Heard on High" by a band that we're not even going to mention by name here because we don't need that kind of heat. Suffice to say, they are definitey, definitely not Rastafarian, even if their t-shirt that says "Not a Rasta" in green, yellow, and red letters with a big lion winking on it is raising a lot of questions answered by the shirt. (Note: there's also another artist featured on the song who we confused for a member of the band because she isn't credited well on the youtube video, so we're just going to go ahead and leave her out of this too.) We would like to formally apologize for our failure. We promise next year to properly blaze it and keep the vibes chill and tight. The ranking music in this episode is "Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy" performed by Bing Crosby and David Bowie.
The small, unassuming wren may be nothing much to look at, but wait till it starts singing. Its loud, complex songs, and its tendency to sing them throughout winter, has earned it the title of “King of Birds.” But on December 26, the king is dead. Wren Day is a traditional hunting of the wren, followed by celebrations that include disguise, door-to-door visiting and parading, and song. It's certainly one of our most strange and mysterious Christmas customs, a mixture of Celtic mythology, old Christmas traditions, and revenge for giving away secrets. Tiernan Gaffney from the National Museum of Ireland joins Brian to tell the story.
