Hello to you listening in Bellingham, Washington!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga. There is nothing quite so still as an old growth forest to settle the anxiety I feel in these times of madness. Walking deep in the woods of the island's old growth forests a stillness beckons me to stop and listen deeply. The stillness asks if I can hear the immense power and depth of silence. I am reminded that all sounds arise from silence and fade back into silence. When we take the time to stop and experience silence we calm our mind, still the crazy chatter, breathe more deeply. Allow stillness. Stay with silence as long as you can. Tune in to your intuition, see clearly, hear your heartbeat, feel the blood coursing in your fingertips, and sense the steadiness of your breath coming and going easily. Remind yourself that we are alive and connected to all beings.Question: How does it feel to seek a bit of refuge in the stillness of the present moment? How does it feel to be alive, vibrant, and in tune with silence?   You're always welcome: "Come for the stories - Stay for the magic!" Speaking of magic, I hope you'll subscribe, share a 5-star rating and nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, bring your friends and rellies, and join us! Why your best life isn't about having the right answers, but about asking the right questions.Finding meaning and purpose in life isn't about having all the answers. For Bill Burnett and Dave Evans, it's about having the courage and curiosity to constantly engage with the questions. As designers, Burnett and Evans have careers spanning everything from academia to companies like Apple, Electronic Arts, and Hasbro. But beyond fashioning better products and user experiences, they've also put their expertise toward the transcendent, writing several books about designing and living lives filled with meaning and purpose.“Compasses say North, not Seattle,” says Evans, highlighting how many mistakenly think of purpose as a single destination. “We're all a dynamic, flowing, constantly changing thing. So how could a changing thing have one static right answer?” Instead, he and Burnett maintain that meaning is more about “going the right direction, not [finding] the right destination.”In this episode of Think Fast, Talk Smart, Burnett and Evans join host Matt Abrahams to explore their strategies for leading a purposeful life. Rather than “rehearsing [an] answer,” their method involves “living [a] question” — embracing curiosity and designing a life through dialogue with ourselves and with others. To listen to the extended Deep Thinks version of this episode, please visit FasterSmarter.io/premium.Episode Reference Links:Bill BurnettDave EvansBill and Dave's Book: How to Live a Meaningful LifeEp.181 Why Happiness is a Direction, Not a Destination: Communication, Happiness & WellbeingEp.138 Speak Your Truth: Why Authenticity Leads to Better Communication  Connect:Premium Signup >>>> Think Fast Talk Smart PremiumEmail Questions & Feedback >>> hello@fastersmarter.ioEpisode Transcripts >>> Think Fast Talk Smart WebsiteNewsletter Signup + English Language Learning >>> FasterSmarter.ioThink Fast Talk Smart >>> LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTubeMatt Abrahams >>> LinkedInChapters:(00:00) - Introduction (01:02) - Meaning & Purpose as a Direction (01:42) - Coherence & Living in Alignment (02:23) - Design Thinking for Life Decisions (03:56) - Prototyping Conversations (05:29) - Odyssey Plans: Three Possible Futures (07:33) - The Four Elements of Meaning (09:22) - Wonder Glasses: Shifting Perspective (10:48) - Transactional vs. Flow World (12:36) - How to Build a Formative Community (13:59) - The Practice-to-Production Trap (15:07) - The Final Three Questions (18:35) - Conclusion

2026 is not a normal year... In this conversation, Jim Self explains that the chaos we're witnessing is what happens when the old "third-dimensional game" of reality stops being sustainable. The collapse of duality and linear time are revisited as Jim reveals how a massive upgrade to our internal operating system is changing everything.A world built on guilt, authoritative control, and the shadows of the past eventually collapses as the light becomes too bright for the old structures to sustain themselves. What's being undone are the systems of a fading dimension—so a new way of living can emerge. One rooted in harmonic resonance, the power of the present moment, and the alchemy of higher consciousness. And while this moment is collective, how it shows up in your life is deeply personal.

When we are feeling low, our vibrations are low. Those feelings of fear, sadness, depression, anxiety, boredom are all sucking our energy and keeping us vibrating at a lower level. All while disconnecting us from the present moment. Connecting to the present, raises our vibration. We start to feel joy, gratitude, inspired, optimistic, and enthusiastic for what is to come. The present moment is there, always singing in a perfect pitch, waiting for us to tune in to it. This meditation hopes to help the meditator practice that connection with the present moment so we can be more in unison with our life. One breath at a time.

Send us a textWhen life blurs into one long multitask, presence can feel like a luxury. We offer a human, doable way back: a five-senses gratitude practice that anchors attention in what you can actually feel and notice right now. No jargon, no fluff—just practical steps and real examples that help your mind settle and your body exhale. We start with the problem so many of us face: work, family, and friends all competing for the same mental space. Then we map a straightforward framework—vision, hearing, smell, taste, touch—that you can run anywhere. Think sunsets that widen your breath, a child's voice that lifts your mood, the kitchen smells that take you home, a bite that slows you down, and the grounding of a hand held or a pet's calm weight. Each sense becomes a doorway to presence, and the more specific you get, the faster you arrive. You'll hear simple prompts to create your own five, plus ways to use them during transitions: before a meeting, walking into your house, or winding down at night. We share why sensory detail works on the nervous system, how it interrupts rumination, and how a 60‑second practice can make your day feel more spacious. If you're craving less noise and more clarity, this approach meets you where you are and gives you control over your focus without adding another heavy routine.Try it today: list one thing you're grateful for in each sense and watch your attention click into place. Hello to you listening in Jakarta, Indonesia!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds (and a bit more) for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga. As the old ones say, “If we are not grateful for what we have in this present moment, what makes us think we will be happy with more?”  Maybe it's true and maybe it isn't but long ago and far away there lived a man in a small country village. He had everything he had ever asked for: friends, livelihood, wife, family - and yet and yet something was stirring in him: Looking around he asked himself, Is this all there is? Perhaps I am meant for something more, something better. Perhaps I should go and seek my happiness outside the village. One summer morning he left his home, carefully closed the garden gate behind him and walked away. He walked for miles and miles until he could no longer see where he had been. Night fell and he found himself deep in a dark forest. Having no other shelter he took off his shoes, spread his coat on the ground, and fell asleep against the trunk of a tree for he was very tired.Watching him sleep his angel shook her head at the folly of his adventure. But what could she do? She could turn his shoes around facing them back in the direction from which he came. And so she did. When the man awoke he pulled on his coat, put his feet into his shoes and began to walk. After many miles of walking the man began to see familiar fields, a few farmhouses, a village - all looking very much like what he had left; but how could that be? People in the village market greeted him as if he was familiar to them; but how could that be? Arriving at a cottage with a garden gate he was startled to be greeted by children and a woman as if he were their long lost father and husband; but how could that be? They welcomed him inside, took off his shoes, sat him at a table very much like one he knew, fed him food that tasted like home; but how could that be?To this very day the man lives with that family in that home in that village and wonders, “If this isn't happiness, what is?”  As the old ones say, “If we are not grateful for what we have in this present moment, what makes us think we will be happy with more?”  You're always welcome: "Come for the stories - Stay for the magic!" SAGE Palliative Medicine & Chronic Care
Balancing present-moment acceptance and future concerns: A qualitative study of illness experiences and perceptions of palliative care in progressive neurological diseases

SAGE Palliative Medicine & Chronic Care

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 22, 2025 5:10

This episode features Lily Man Lee Chan (School of Nursing, Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR).   What is already known about the topic?   Progressive neurologic diseases involve complex, fluctuating symptoms and function decline. Palliative care aims to improve quality of life and symptom control. Access to palliative services is often limited to advanced disease stages or based on prognosis. Palliative care needs among people with progressive neurological diseases are understudied in Asian contexts.   What this paper adds? People with progressive neurological diseases experience significant palliative care needs related to physical, psychosocial, and spiritual concerns from the early stages of illness, highlighting the necessity of early palliative care based on individual needs rather than prognosis. Patients with progressive neurological diseases navigated complex psychospiritual distress, transitioning from negativity to life renegotiation by fostering acceptance, focusing on the present, and embracing a positive outlook despite ongoing disease progression and future uncertainties. Findings underscore the importance of adopting a person-centered holistic approach that incorporates psychospiritual support, suggesting a symptom-based palliative care approach.   Implications for practice, theory or policy Palliative care services should proactively assess and address the multidimensional needs of people with progressive neurological diseases from diagnosis onward, not only at advanced stages. Health professionals need to integrate psychospiritual care and facilitate timely, open conversations about future care preferences before cognitive decline occurs. Policy and service development should enable needs-based, flexible access to palliative care for people with progressive neurological diseases, and promote education for patients, families, and providers on the benefits of early palliative involvement.   Full paper available from:     https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/02692163251394908   If you would like to record a podcast about your published (or accepted) Palliative Medicine paper, please contact Dr Amara Nwosu:  a.nwosu@lancaster.ac.uk

Send us a textIn this episode, host Andrea Atherton is joined by Elizabeth Makepeace for a reflective and expansive conversation on the Cycle of Nine, a universal rhythm of growth, integration, and completion. Together, they explore what it means to arrive at nine as a sacred threshold, where lived experience matures into wisdom. With 2025 carrying the energetic imprint of a nine-year cycle, this episode invites listeners to slow down, listen inward, and recognize that endings are not failures, but profound invitations into conscious closure and deeper self-trust.Andrea and Elizabeth guide listeners through the arc of one through nine, emphasizing how mindfulness at each stage supports emotional, relational, and spiritual growth. They speak to the power of honoring the process rather than rushing toward outcomes, and how the closing energy of nine offers a rare opportunity for integration. As the year draws to a close, they encourage intentional reflection through creative ritual—including manifestation or vision boards, journaling, and symbolic acts of release—as a way to consciously gather the lessons of the past before stepping forward. The episode also offers poignant reflective questions designed to deepen clarity and manifestation: What did I learn? What am I ready to release? What growth has come from this cycle? By engaging these questions with presence and creativity, reflection becomes an embodied practice rather than a mental exercise. The end of 2025 is framed as a powerful ceremonial pause—one that allows insight to become intention, and intention to become aligned creation. Listeners are invited to close this cycle with reverence, so that the next chapter begins from a place of wholeness rather than urgency.Elizabeth Makepeace www.elizabethelenor.comhttps://www.elizabethelenor.com/chakraforbusypeople30-minute Consultation with Andrea https://www.andreaatherton.com/booking-calendarAndrea Atherton Websitehttps://www.andreaatherton.com/Love Anarchy Websitehttps://www.andreaatherton.com/podcasthttps://loveanarchypodcast.buzzsprout.comLove Anarchy Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/loveanarchypodcast/Andrea Atherton Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/andreaatherton-17/

Is your life guided by choice… or by your cosmic design? In this episode of The Greatness Machine, Darius sits down with world-renowned astrologer and psychotherapist Debra Silverman to explore how astrology, psychology, and past-life patterns intersect to shape who we are today. Debra shares how discovering astrology at a young age set her on a path to helping thousands understand themselves through their birth charts. She breaks down the difference between surface-level horoscopes and true chart analysis, and explains why Carl Jung believed psychology was incomplete without astrology. They unpack how planetary influences can impact personality, relationships, purpose, and even rebellion against authority, and how that awareness can become a powerful tool for healing and self-acceptance. Homily from the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This feast day of the Immaculate Conception is not just a privilege for Mary: it's a prophecy for us. The Feast of the Immaculate Conception reveals God's plan to conquer sin not just by repairing what is broken, but by preparing a path where grace triumphs first. This Advent we are invited to enter into the "Sacrament of the Present Moment", where God offers real, life-changing grace in each moment we choose to be present to Him. Mary's unique "yes" reminds us to stop waiting and to respond to God's already-given grace with a wholehearted and immediate "yes". Read OnlineJesus said to his disciples: “As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be in the days of the Son of Man; they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage up to the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.” Luke 17:26–27As we enter into the final weeks of the liturgical year, we begin to turn our attention to the final coming of Christ. In today's Gospel, Jesus gives us the example of Noah and Lot. In both of their stories, people were eating, drinking, marrying, buying, selling, planting and building up, until the very day that the floods came to destroy the earth at the time of Noah and fire rained down from the sky at the time of Lot. Both Noah and Lot were saved, but many others alive at that time met with sudden and unexpected destruction.Jesus says that the “days of the Son of Man” will be similar to these previous two events. At an unexpected time, Jesus will return to earth, and the Final Judgment will ensue. So His message is clear: Be ready at all times.Though we are familiar with this teaching of our Lord, spoken many times and in various ways in the Gospels, many people do not heed the message. It is easy to believe that you always have tomorrow to change, and so you give into temptation today. And then tomorrow comes, and the temptation is once again embraced with the thought that you will work on it tomorrow, and henceforth. We can easily go about perpetuating our sins and embracing our temptations while we have the ongoing good intention of changing tomorrow. This is a mistake for two reasons.First of all, it always remains a possibility that our Lord will indeed come today and that today truly will be the end of the world. Or, it always remains a distinct possibility that your life will come to an end today, suddenly and unexpectedly. If that were to happen, would you be fully ready to stand before the judgment seat of Christ? Most people would not, at least not fully ready. Thus, this should be motivation enough to work tirelessly today to be ready now and every moment hereafter. But we should also see this prophecy of our Lord as applying to every present moment of every day. Jesus is always coming to us, suddenly and without warning, inviting us to serve Him by grace. This Gospel passage states that “Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses it will save it.” This applies to the end of our lives and to the end of the world, but it also applies to every present moment of every day. If we continually seek to lose our lives, meaning, to choose the Heavenly realities over the temporal earthly indulgences we are daily tempted with, then we will also daily experience the grace of salvation, here and now, in every present moment of our lives. Reflect, today, upon whether or not you regularly seek to lose your life for the sake of the Kingdom of God. Do you continually choose grace, mercy, Heaven, obedience, love, self-sacrifice, compassion, forgiveness and the like, every moment of every day of your life? If so, then our Lord will continually bestow the gift of His saving grace upon you here and now, preparing you for the ultimate moment of judgment. If not, then you will be more like the people of Noah's and Lot's time who met with sudden destruction when they least expected it. Live for God now, today, in this moment, and you will be eternally grateful you did.My ever-present Lord, You come to me always, suddenly and unexpectedly, and so often I do not hear You or perceive Your presence. Please help me to live continually for You and by Your grace, choosing Heavenly realities over temporary indulgences. May I live this way always, meeting You every moment of my life and anticipating that glorious final meeting with You at the time of judgment. Jesus, I trust in You.Source of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2025 My Catholic Life! Inc. All rights reserved. Used with permission via RSS feed.

The Burning Present Moment On the spiritual path, enthusiasm often gives way to what one teacher called “the icky middle”—that in-between place where the excitement of beginning meets the challenge of transformation. It's here that we learn: awakening isn't just about peace or bliss. It's about endurance, sincerity, and courage to live in the truth of the present moment. To experience what's real, we must let go of the small, familiar self. The process can feel raw—like peeling off layers of identity that have clung to us for years. At first, it may even hurt. But that sensitivity marks the beginning of true presence. Just as Plato's cave-dweller must adjust to sunlight after a lifetime of shadows, we too must learn to bear the brilliance of awareness. Many retreat back into the dark, but those who stay discover a new world waiting in the light—a world of clarity, love, and direct experience. Letting go of old patterns, relationships, and self-images brings a natural grief. Yet this too is sacred. We honor what we've outgrown without turning back. In that surrender, space opens for joy and freshness—the pulse of Spirit in the present moment. In Kriya Yoga, our practices—breath, mantra, meditation—are the steady work of freeing ourselves from the cave. When the chains fall away, we begin to sense freedom not as an idea, but as a living awareness. The invitation then is simple but profound: Stay with the light. Live in the burning present moment where Spirit is always now. -

The Push-Pull of ADHD and Autism: Stretching Without Breaking In this candid conversation, Patricia Young (she/her) and B Lourenco (she/her) dive deep into the realities of living with ADHD, autism, and other forms of neurodivergence. They explore the push-pull between self-accommodation and stretching ourselves, how shame and internalized ableism impact daily life, and what it means to create realistic support systems at home, in relationships, and in the workplace. Expect raw honesty, relatable stories, and practical insights for navigating neurodivergent life. WHAT YOU'LL HEAR IN THIS EPISODE · The ongoing "driver's seat battle" between ADHD and autism. · The push-pull between making accommodations and stretching ourselves beyond comfort. · Parenting a neurodivergent young adult while balancing when to push and when to allow rest. · Task initiation struggles — from making banana bread to cooking meals. · Body doubling as a powerful tool to reduce shame and spark motivation. · The "crisper/rotter" effect — guilt over wasted food and executive dysfunction. · Financial and practical impacts of task initiation challenges. · How privilege plays into having options like prepared or frozen meals when cooking feels impossible. · The cost of pushing through fatigue and flares with conditions like POTS and MCAS. · "Future me" thinking — and the difficulties neurodivergent folks have with impermanence. · Shame as the "ice cream scoop" on top of disability struggles. · Why diagnosis matters: language helps reduce shame and prevent repeating harmful patterns. · How powerlessness, and an attempt to gain autonomy can show up in small, reactive choices (like leaving a Facebook group). · Sensory sensitivities in family systems — how lack of accommodations can lead to dysfunction. · Practical accommodations for noise-sensitive parents and their kids. · Workplace challenges: 40-hour weeks, return-to-office pressures, and capitalism's rigidity. · Creative problem-solving in disabled and neurodivergent communities. · The deep fear of being uncared for and alone if we can't keep up. · Hyper-independence and isolation in the ADHD/autistic community. · Internalized ableism and the "shoulds" that drive shame and burnout. · Neurodivergence as a dynamic disability — what's possible one day isn't always possible the next. · Radical acceptance as a path toward reducing judgment and finding relief. SOUND BITES · "It begs the question of, okay, is that okay? Can we just say that's how it is?" – B Lourenco · "Instead of putting our energy into addressing the gap, folks will take the great divide and then put a scoop of shame on top of it." – B Lourenco · "All the terrible things that we tell ourselves… if I didn't have that awareness, I'd just keep repeating these patterns." – Patricia Young · "In order to truly accommodate ourselves, we have to acknowledge that it's as hard as it is and that we're as disabled as we are." – B Lourenco · "Sometimes I have to ask myself, what if what you're going through is exactly where you need to be?" – Patricia Young SENSITIVITY IS NOTHING TO APOLOGIZE FOR; IT'S HOW YOUR BRAIN IS WIRED You are not broken. She knows what it's like to feel like an outcast, misfit, and truthteller. Learning about the trait of being a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP), then learning she is AuDHD with a PDA profile, OCD and RSD, helped Patricia rewrite her history with a deeper understanding, appreciation, and a sense of self-compassion. She created the podcasts Unapologetically Sensitive and Unapologetically AuDHD to help other neurodivergent folks know that they aren't alone, and that having a brain that is wired differently comes with amazing gifts, and some challenges. Patricia works online globally working individually with people, and she teaches Online Courses for neurodivergent folks that focus on understanding what it means to be a sensitive neurodivergent. Topics covered include: self-care, self-compassion, boundaries, perfectionism, mindfulness, communication, and creating a lifestyle that honors you Patricia's website, podcast episodes and more: www.unapologeticallysensitive.com PODCAST GUEST B Lourenco, MA, LMHC (she/her) is a licensed mental health counselor, educator, advocate, and activist. B has been working in community support for nearly 20 years and is committed to social change on all system levels. Seeing mental health advocacy as a way to serve the community, she earned a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology, with a Systems Emphasis, in 2015 and began her private practice, B Lourenco Therapy in 2017. B has also worked in the public school system, providing support to students with behavioral issues that made attending school challenging for them. Highly trained in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), B became a district-wide expert in supporting neurodivergent students. It was during this work that she began to be critical of the medical models of support for neurodivergence, including ABA. Making the shift from the medical to the Neurodiversity-affirming model has allowed her to finally identify her own neurodivergence, including Autism and ADHD. Combining her lived experience of neurodivergence, along with years of anti-oppression work, B is passionate about helping others untangle themselves from harmful practices and align themselves with those that instead support marginalized communities. In addition to CE events for healthcare providers, she has also been a speaker on panels and podcasts, and also facilitates community based workshops. https://www.blourencotherapy.com LINKS Cascadia Training: https://cascadia-training.com Imani Barbarin—crutches_and_spice IG https://www.instagram.com/crutches_and_spice/ To write a review in itunes: click on this link https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/unapologetically-sensitive/id1440433481?mt=2 select "listen on Apple Podcasts" chose "open in itunes" choose "ratings and reviews" click to rate the number of starts click "write a review" Website--www.unapologeticallysensitive.com Facebook-- https://www.facebook.com/Unapologetically-Sensitive-2296688923985657/ Closed/Private Facebook group Unapologetically Sensitive-- https://www.facebook.com/groups/2099705880047619/ Instagram-- https://www.instagram.com/unapologeticallysensitive/ Youtube-- https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOE6fodj7RBdO3Iw0NrAllg/videos?view_as=subscriber Tik Tok--https://www.tiktok.com/@unapologeticallysensitiv Unapologetically AuDHD Podcast-- https://unapologeticallysensitive.com/unapologeticallyaudhd/ e-mail-- unapologeticallysensitive@gmail.com Show hashtag--#unapologeticallysensitive Music-- Gravel Dance by Andy Robinson www.andyrobinson.com
