Many years ago, at the gates of the nursery that both Ruth and Tim attended, we enjoyed many precious moments of fellowship with a special group of parents. (We are still in touch with them all!) Amongst them was Sue Harris, who I was delighted to invite to record this poem-prayer that celebrates the "sacrament of the present moment": a lovely concept which Jean Pierre Caussade coined as a phrase three hundred years ago. Sue loves the Lord Jesus dearly, and we have paired her heart-felt recording with the music of one of Bach's most beautiful Andantes, which Fontane Liang and Julia Herzog played for us on the harp and recorder. The music feels somewhat delicate and slightly fragile, like a bluebell just lifting its head, and inspires us to dwell on the tenderness of the Lord's moment-by-moment love for us – and to remind ourselves that no lack of faithfulness on our part, or 'road block' that we face along life's way can ultimately keep us from His unconditional love, if we will but resolve to reach out to Him. May this be a piece to which you often find yourself returning, and find in it fresh succour and sweetness in the Lord. It is beautiful.

Last time, we talked about how we've become tired and wired, constantly "on" with too many mental tabs open. Today, we're diving deeper into the critical question: why does losing our brain's on-off switch matter so much? The answer is simple: it's costing us – in our potential, our satisfaction, and our ability to truly rest.First, we'll explore how the inability to focus hinders our potential. Imagine trying to hit a game-winning shot while distracted by a dozen other things. We've lost the crucial art of dropping everything else to focus on one thing, whether it's a critical work project, quality time with our kids, or even navigating the road safely. When you can't be present, you can't truly excel.Next, we reveal how this constant "on" state sabotages our satisfaction. The male brain, in particular, thrives on making steady progress towards a goal. But when our minds are constantly bombarded by distractions – akin to someone trying to sell you dessert during an intense football practice – we lose the profound satisfaction that comes from focused effort and achievement. This constant mental chatter prevents us from savoring our accomplishments and enjoying the journey. Finally, we'll uncover how losing our on-off switch ruins our rest. We were designed for a natural rhythm of work and rest, reflected in days, weeks, and even seasons. However, modern life has eroded these vital barriers. Our homes have become extensions of our workplaces, and our minds struggle to unplug, leading to a lingering voice of doubt that hinders true mental relaxation. When all parts of life are blended together, nothing has its own distinct time and place, leaving us with a "blended" and often unsatisfying experience.Join us at ThrivingMan.com, where we're dedicated to helping you conquer everyday chaos and build a life you can be proud of. In our next episode, we'll uncover why we find ourselves in this perpetual "on" state and explore the ongoing war on our attention and peace.On-Off Switch, Brain Health, Focus, Attention, Distraction, Productivity, Potential, Satisfaction, Rest, Work-Life Balance, Mental Fatigue, Burnout, Digital Overload, Information Overload, Mental Chatter, Present Moment, Deep Work, ThrivingMan, Men's Health, Personal Development, Self-Improvement, Conquer Chaos, Build a Thriving Life, Cognitive Function, Mental Clarity, Quality of Life, Boundaries, Digital Boundaries, Stress Management, Unplugging, Mental Rest, True Rest, Constant Connection, Mind Management.
This week I had the pleasure of sitting down with Gary Waldron, an author and speaker who has truly mastered the art of reinvention. With a fascinating career trajectory that spans 44 jobs, including being a school teacher, consultant, and even a topless waiter, Gary shares his profound insights on adapting to change and the necessity of reinvention in today’s volatile world. We had violent agreement on so many topics that it's like Gary is 'a brother from another mother'. We explored topics surrounding his book, "Mastering the Art of Reinvention," and delved into the mindset shifts required to view life’s challenges as growth opportunities. Gary also discusses how to harness AI's power effectively in one’s career for those looking to reinvent themselves, allowing for growth without traditional boundaries. What You'll Learn: The Concept of Reinvention: Understand why reinvention is not solely the end goal but a continual process of adapting to new opportunities. The Role of Genetics in Change: Discover the link between the dopamine receptor gene and novelty-seeking behaviour, explaining why some are more inclined to embrace change. Understanding and Leveraging AI: Learn how AI can propel personal and professional growth by providing democratised access to information and creative exploration. Coping with Life Changes: Gain insights into handling significant life transitions, such as career shifts or personal upheavals, through Gary's personal experiences. Creating a Growth Mindset: Develop a mindset that views challenges as experiments, encouraging proactive action rather than fear-induced paralysis. Key Takeaways: Embrace Change: Accept that change is constant and inevitable; the more you practice adaptation, the easier it becomes. Mindset Matters: How you perceive challenges—as either threats or opportunities—significantly influences your ability to navigate them. Quality Prompts Make a Difference: In the age of AI, the quality of the questions you ask can dictate the usefulness of the solutions you receive. Authenticity and Values: Aligning your actions with your core values such as authenticity can guide you successfully through transformations. Living Fully in the Present: While planning for the future is crucial, excessive focus on it or dwelling in the past can detract from present contentment. It's so easy to get caught up in our thoughts and miss the present moment. The process of thinking is of course part of our present moment experience, but today, we're going to open ourselves up to our whole experience. And if you're enjoying these weekly mindful moments, you should really check out my weekly mindfulness group, Mindful Creators. I guide two mindfulness practices for the group, and then email out the recordings of those practices if you can't make it live. And it's all free! Truly a great deal if you want to experience more mindfulness in your life.Audio TranscriptionWelcome to your mindful moment.Go ahead and settle your body somewhere comfortable.Start to tune into your breath and just notice what it's doing right now in this moment.Feeling the delicious inhales as they come.Feeling the relieving exhales as those happen.Just mindfully noticing the experience of the breath, however it exists in this present moment. And now bringing mindful awareness to your body and the experience of your body in this moment. And if you notice any areas of tension or dis-ease, go ahead and lovingly send your breath to those areas with the intention of allowing those areas to further release and relax. And as you continue to breathe and experience your breath and experience your continually relaxing body, see what's present in your mind today. Is your mind very active, full of thoughts? That's okay, and for now, you can choose to gently release those thoughts.Let go of your awareness and focus intently on those thoughts. Let go of that. And choose to bring your awareness and your focus fully to your breath and your experience of the present moment. And truthfully, any activity in your mind is just part of your present moment experience. But I think we tend to hold so much focus and awareness on our thoughts that we lose out on the rest of our present moment experience. And so for now, let's just practice letting that mind stuff be with us, be a part of our experience, but not our whole experience.Your breath is part of your present moment experience.Your body is part of your present moment experience. So just lovingly observe your present moment experience.I'm going to bring this mindful moment to a close, but feel free to remain in mindful meditation, focusing on your breath, enjoying your experience, observing your experience for as long as you like.Have a great day.I'm Amy Schloerb, The Aligned Actor

In this podcast we bring you how to enjoy your present moment from the philosophy of Rumi. Rumi's work, particularly his collection of mystical poetry known as the "Masnavi”, have had a profound influence on literature, spirituality, and the understanding of the human experience. So with that in mind, here are 5 ways to enjoy your present moment from the philosophy of Rumi - 01. Free yourself from the burdens of the past and the anxieties of the future 02. Quiet your mind 03. Embrace the beauty of the present moment 04. Be fully engaged in your life's experiences 05. Cultivate gratitude I hope you enjoyed listening to this podcast and hope these 5 ways to enjoy your present moment from the philosophy of Rumi will add value to your life. Sufism began some 9 centuries ago and is focused on reaching the divine - the power that created the skies, the earth, us and life as a whole, through love. It means that in Sufism, we human beings are lovers, the divine is beloved and to love the divine, we need to connect back to the essence of life and understand that we and the world are one. Sufism has given the world some of its brightest minds and poets and one of those people is known as Maulana, Jalāl al-Dīn Muḥammad Rūmī, arguably the best Sufi poet in history. Rumi, a Persian scholar at first, then a Mystic, has written many illustrious poems depicting love and its central role as the bridge to reach the divine; poems that are engraved in the literature books for eternity. His brilliance caught the eyes of people since his childhood. His father, a famous scholar back then, had personally taken the responsibility of teaching him. He deepened his knowledge at a very young age and after the death of his father, he was destined to succeed him as a scholar. But Rumi wanted to learn more, so he connected with another brilliant teacher named Al Tarmithi and a few years later, his teacher left him because he considered that he had nothing left to teach his student, Rumi was now a complete scholar. Rumi was adored by his followers and when he held assemblies, he had a large crowd as attendees. However, life and the divine had other plans for him. In 1244, Rumi encountered Shams Tabrizi, a traveling Sufi dervish who changed his core understanding of life. Rumi became so fond of Shams that he neglected his students and his family and spent days and nights with him, all to grasp the essence of pure love and how to express it to reach the divine. Rumi turned from a Scholar to a Sufi poet who sang for love, danced in circles, which is now called Sufi whirling or the whirling dervish, and wrote poems that are still relevant today continuing to have a deep influence.

I have to do what feels right.” “There's magic and transformation when you bring like-minded, passionate people together.” “When you try to appeal to everybody, you actually end up appealing to nobody.” “All those no's I got—some people say rejected—I just say redirected. I always thought, ‘Well, that's okay, that's one more no to get me closer to that yes.'” “What's meant for us will always come to us.” “Why would I get a job making minimum wage like my friends, when I can literally make $600 in a day doing my own business?” “Create a life that you don't want to escape from.” “No is actually one of the best things you can hear—and that is counterintuitive. The more no's you get, the closer you get to the right yeses—the people you need to be investing in and spending time with. What you don't want is that kind of half-hearted ‘Yeah, okay' from someone, and you end up investing a lot of time, and it ends up being a waste for you.” “Being resilient is definitely not bouncing back. It's choosing to move forward with courage so you can have a life filled with laughter and love and joy. And it's getting up again and being unstoppable.” “When you shift your mindset with gratitude, it is alchemy. It really gets you focused on what you can do instead of what you can't do. And it allows you to be in acceptance of where you are, who you are, and where you are on your journey.” “Grit when you're working hard is good, but grit without connection is resistance. It's clawing your way to the top. It's hitting roadblocks, or it's burnout. But grit with connection—that's where we really find resilience.” “When you have a why, you can get through any how.” “I focused on the fact that they said I had a chance. The present moment is always there. It is always waiting for us to return to the calm and stillness that is always there. Perpetually transmitting on the same frequency. It is only waiting for us to tune back in to it. This meditation hopes to give the meditator a few minutes of quiet and stillness and help to get back to that feeling of presence. The feeling of here and now. One breath at a time.

Today's episode is your divine invitation back to the only place your transformation can truly begin: the present moment. If you've been feeling disconnected, waiting for something to click, or wondering how to speed up your manifestations — this conversation is the reset your soul has been craving. Inside this sacred transmission, Talia Joy guides you into a deeper understanding of what it means to be fully present—not just conceptually, but embodied, activated, and open to receiving everything that is already here for you. This is more than a reminder. This is a spiritual key. And when you integrate it, your path becomes clearer, your nervous system calms, and your manifestations begin to accelerate with ease. In this episode, we talk about... ✨ Why the present moment is the only portal to the Divine, intuition, and manifestation ✨ How the quantum field responds to your energy in the now (not the future) ✨ The spiritual assignment behind every desire: can you find it within before it arrives? ✨ A powerful nervous system reframe that brings you into calm and groundedness ✨ How presence magnetizes abundance, health, love, and peace—without chasing ✨ A gentle five senses practice to help you anchor into the now and regulate your energy
As our family embarks on a massive cross-country move and prepares to graduate our oldest son, I've been reflecting on the spiritual growth that comes from embracing God's will in the thick of life's chaos, and the sacred power of the present moment. Even when it's hard and messy. In today's podcast episode, I share the difference between our last big move (cue toddler, puppy, homeschooling, and house showings!) and this one, and how learning to surrender the pain, instead of resisting it, is the path to peace.

Episode 69: Guided Meditation to Ground Into the Present Moment is LIVE on The Rewired Podcast!
TW - Suicidal ideation This week, my guest is Life Coach, Tom Parish. After a painful divorce, Tom was overwhelmed by self-doubt and shame and found himself struggling under the weight of toxic masculinity - the pressure to suppress emotion, to "man up" and to suffer in silence. In the midst of this emotional collapse, Tom experienced a profound awakening. He left his career as an Aircraft Engineer in the RAF and embarked on a radically different path as a Life Coach grounded by compassion, authenticity and connection to the present moment. We explore Tom's journey of healing, the inner work that helped him move through suicidal ideation and the liberating power of embracing vulnerability as a man. We also talk about the cultural pressures that keep so many men emotionally repressed and how self love is the foundation for real lasting change in ourselves and the world. As part of his awakening, Tom also embraced veganism, deepening his connection to compassion, authenticity and conscious living. You don't need to scale a mountain or surf a 100-foot wave to hit your peak. In fact, unlocking your full potential might be a lot simpler, and a lot more boring, than you think. In this episode, I unpack the science behind “flow,” that elusive state where time vanishes, focus sharpens, and we perform at our absolute best. Inspired by the work of author and journalist Steven Kotler, I dive into how elite athletes, creatives, and everyday people are using flow to redefine what's possible. For more go to: www.scottmlynch.comLevel up your life by joining my Patreon where you'll get exclusive content every week and more badass offerings (rips t-shirt in half, Hulk Hogan style, and runs around the room). In this episode, we dive into the power of mindfulness and pleasure—how slowing down and fully experiencing the present moment can bring more joy, connection, and richness to your life. So often, we rush through our days, missing the small, beautiful moments that make life feel full and pleasurable. But what if you could train yourself to pause, feel, and truly savor the simple pleasures that already exist around you? What You'll Learn in This Episode: • How to bring mindfulness and pleasure into your daily routine • Simple techniques to tune into your body and awaken your senses • Why pleasure isn't just about big moments—it's found in the little details How to Cultivate More Pleasure & Presence: 1. Pause & Notice – Take a moment to truly see, hear, and feel your surroundings. Maybe it's the warmth of your coffee mug, the softness of your sweater, or the way sunlight filters through the window. 2. Engage Your Senses – Run your fingers over a texture you love, deeply inhale a scent, or take an extra moment to taste your food. 3. Breathe it In – Close your eyes, take a slow, deep breath, and let the sensation fully settle in your body. 4. Carry It Forward – As you move through your day, look for small moments of joy—the sound of laughter, the rhythm of your footsteps, the feeling of fresh air on your skin. Why This Matters: • It slows you down. When you stop rushing, life feels fuller and more vibrant. • It connects you to your body. Pleasure isn't just a thought—it's something you feel. • It builds gratitude. When you learn to appreciate the little things, you naturally invite more joy into your life. Pleasure isn't a destination—it's already here, woven into the fabric of your everyday life. The more you slow down and notice it, the more alive and connected you'll feel. When we are feeling low, our vibrations are low. Those feelings of fear, sadness, depression, anxiety, boredom are all sucking our energy and keeping us vibrating at a lower level. All while disconnecting us from the present moment. Connecting to the present, raises our vibration. We start to feel joy, gratitude, inspired, optimistic, and enthusiastic for what is to come. The present moment is there, always singing in a perfect pitch, waiting for us to tune in to it. This meditation hopes to help the meditator practice that connection with the present moment so we can be more in unison with our life. One breath at a time.

In this episode: Resting in This Moment MeditationThis guided meditation practice invites you to set everything aside for a little while and rest in the incredible simplicity of this moment. We all have so much going on in our lives—things to do, things to plan, things we worry about, kids and family to care for, jobs to perform. The list goes on and on.Yet we can choose to set aside everything that has come before and everything that lies ahead, dropping into this timeless moment of now, even if just for one breath. That's what we're practicing with this guided meditation. It's an invitation to rest in the simplicity of having nothing to do except being aware of this in-breath and this out-breath, exactly as they are, moment by moment and breath by breath.I hope you enjoy this meditation.PS: Introducing the…
Welcome to episode 84 of The Way Out Is In: The Zen Art of Living, a podcast series mirroring Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh's deep teachings of Buddhist philosophy: a simple yet profound methodology for dealing with our suffering, and for creating more happiness and joy in our lives. In this installment, Zen Buddhist monk Brother Phap Huu and leadership coach/journalist Jo Confino focus on profound Buddhist sutra The Discourse on Knowing the Better Way to Live Alone. Using personal stories and examples, they illustrate the daily relevance of its teachings on being present in the moment, acceptance, and the interconnectedness of all things. Brother Phap Huu discusses how this sutra emphasizes not dwelling in the past or worrying about the future, but instead being fully present in and accepting of the here and now. He also reflects on recent events in the Plum Village community, such as a fire that destroyed an important building and why this was a profound experience for the community, leading them to grieve the loss while also finding strength in their togetherness. The presenters further explore grieving as a necessary part of the healing process, acknowledging loss rather than trying to bypass difficult emotions; the practice of being fully present (and how to recognize when one is truly present), even in times of chaos and uncertainty; the importance of community, the role of leadership, and the transmission of teachings; the need to accept suffering as a path to greater freedom and understanding; and much more. Do not lose yourself in the future. The past no longer is. The future has not yet come. Looking deeply at life as it is in the very here and now, the practitioner dwells in stability and freedom. We must be diligent today. To wait until tomorrow is too late. Death comes unexpectedly. How can we bargain with it? The sage calls a person who dwells in mindfulness night and day the one who knows the better way to live alone.'” “We all have an appointment with life every day. And that appointment with life is the very here and now.” “To not grieve would be to deny our humanity.” “We need the ability to ground ourselves, whether it is through a practice of sitting meditation, walking meditation, or mindful breathing: a place where we can be still and let all of our feelings appear, just like letting a lake become calm, so that we can identify and acknowledge how the world and the situation is affecting us.” “Building my stability just means being able to also recognize the wonders I have in this moment. And that means also coming to community, coming to your loved ones, acknowledging what you have in this moment and what you’ve lost.” “We have to come together in order to resist. We have to come together in order to speak the voice that is not being heard right now, to show the injustice that is happening.” “A collective voice is much stronger than an individual.” “We have to move with kindness even when we are being treated unkindly; we still have to respond with kindness. That is our vow and nobody can take that away. The only thing that can take that away is our own anger and our own decision about the actions that we take.” “We cannot lose the integrity and humanity that we have cultivated and developed. That is the freedom that we have. That is the stability that will be transmitted into the next generation.” “Whatever emotion we’re cultivating, we will become that emotion. So if we cultivate anger, we will become angry. If we cultivate kindness and peace, but with the Zen sword of strength, then that’s what we will become.” “We are not a creation, we are a manifestation. So we are here because we have been conditioned by many elements.” “Thich Nhat Hanh gives the metaphor of a boat that’s in danger of sinking. If everyone is panicking, the boat will surely capsize and everyone will be lost. But sometimes it takes just one calm person on board to settle everyone down and save the boat. So there’s something very powerful about not reacting to everything.” “If you know how to suffer, you will suffer much less.”

He is one of only a few dozen masters in the world authorized to teach Sanbo Zen, and now, he'll be your teacher. In addition to my long-form interviews each week, every Monday I'll bring you a short 10-minute or so meditation, which will help you for the rest of the week.Over this four-episode series, you'll develop a Zen toolkit to help you find greater calm, peace, and effectiveness in your daily life.Henry's app, The Way, has changed my life since I first started using it. Unlike other meditation apps, where you're overwhelmed with a thousand choices, The Way is a clear step-by-step training program guided entirely by Henry. Through a logical progression, you'll develop real skills that stick with you.I've been using it daily, often twice a day, and it's lowered my anxiety more than I thought possible. As a listener of my podcast, you can get 30 free sessions by visiting https://thewayapp.com/tim and downloading the app.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
