This Sunday, Pastor Jon continued our Fall Sermon Series, Making Sense of the Church with a message on what it means to be God's people and citizens of Jesus' Kingdom. The role of the Church is to take people from hostile and divided backgrounds and form them into a new community of love. In Ephesians 2, the Apostle Paul unpacks how followers of Jesus can build a community like this because Jesus offers a better sense of identity, status, and belonging than anything that the world can give.

In James 2:1–13, we're reminded that real faith doesn't play favorites. Showing partiality isn't just impolite—it's sin, because it violates God's command to “love your neighbor as yourself.” Jesus reached across every barrier—rich and poor, young and old, insider and outcast—and calls His church to do the same. In this message, Pastor Jon unpacks how mercy triumphs over judgment and how keeping our eyes on Jesus reshapes the way we value people around us. Faith that works is faith that sees every person as made in God's image and worthy of love, dignity, and mercy.
We all live by rules. Sometimes those rules make sense by themselves, but sometimes they have a bigger purpose. Pastor Jon explores what Jesus meant when he said he came to fulfill the law, not abolish it. This week, he dives deep into the purpose of the law, how it leads to Jesus and salvation, and how we as Christians are to understand it in our Kingdom walk. In this special episode of The Blitz, Pastor Jon explores why churches are divided in how they respond to foundational biblical and cultural issues.
In John 11, Jesus turned Lazarus' death into a moment that revealed God's glory. Crowds were divided—some grieving, some doubting, some criticizing—but Jesus declared, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?”Cultural moments, like the public assassination of Charlie Kirk, also draw crowds and divide opinions. But they can become revival moments when God's people respond by speaking the gospel not with outrage or silence, but with unity and love.
This Sunday, Pastor Jon continued our sermon series, Making Sense of the Church, by examining the Church as the Bride of Christ, reminding us that the Bible is, at its core, a great love story. Beneath all the striving and ambition of New York City lies a deep-rooted desire of wanting to be loved. While culture tells us we must earn love through achievement, Scripture tells a different story about how our truest identity is found in being loved by God. The invitation is to surrender to this love story, to build our lives on the truth that we are the beloved of Jesus, and to live as His radiant Bride, preparing for the joy that is to come.

Pastor Jon Ewton's message, "What Jesus Says," delves into the profound meaning of abiding in Jesus's word, based on John 8:31-36. Discover how staying rooted in God's truth forms us into true disciples, reflecting Christ's character in our lives. Pastor Jon contrasts this with the deceptive nature of sin, which leads to enslavement and prevents us from recognizing our true needs. He examines how worldly influences can negatively "marinate" our hearts and minds. He urges listeners to embrace the freedom offered through Jesus, confessing sin and living as adopted sons and daughters of God.

Do fish know they're wet? Do they know they live in water? Do we see and understand the culture currents we swim in? Pastor Jon takes the next step into Jesus's words in the Sermon on the Mount to explore what he meant when he called his followers the salt and light of the world. When we understand that, we will begin to see how radically different the counter-culture of the Kingdom of Heaven is. Speaker: Jon Thompson Publication: September 21, 2025

This Sunday, Pastor Jon continued our Fall Sermon Series, Making Sense of Church, by addressing the crisis of trust in our culture when it comes to leadership with a teaching on Jesus as the Good Shepherd and the Church as the Flock. In critiquing the religious leaders of His day, Jesus clearly lays out His vision for leadership in the Church through the relationship between a shepherd and their flock, or those under their care. Pastor Jon called us to consider Jesus' standards for leaders and followers in the Church, and allow Him to inform how we both lead and follow in our church communities today.

Where do we turn when the world feels broken, divided, and heavy with grief? Whether through tragedies in the news or struggles in our own homes, we all face the reality of evil and sorrow. This Sunday, Pastor Jon will share a message reminding us that while evil is real and grief is heavy, Jesus offers us lasting hope.
The beginning of Jesus's sermon on the mount starts with the The Beatitudes, that well-known passage about those who are blessed. But what are they really saying? Pastor Jon steps through them, one by one, and shows that what Jesus is really telling the crowd is how they illustrate the everyday ethics and lifestyle of those who belong to the Kingdom of Haven, and not the world. They describe what the Kingdom of God looks like, reversing what is expected, and revealing something so much better. Speaker: Jon Thompson Publication: September 14, 2025

Let's continue to encourage one another to hold fast and grow in our faith.
This Sunday, Pastor Jon kicked off our Fall Sermon Series, Making Sense of Church, by asking the question: Why do we still bother with the Church? The reality is that the Church is a dysfunctional family, but it is still key to the mission of Jesus being carried out in the world, and it cannot be disregarded. We cannot make excuses for the failures of the Church, but also cannot deny the beauty and redemption it has brought; the only question that remains is which future of the Church will you tell with your life? The Church is God's idea, and it has endured through every time and place since its inception. You need the Church for your growth, and the Church needs you, faithfully living as Jesus' hands and feet in your context, believing this can be the Church's finest hour, not its greatest failure.
