RV PODCAST NEWS OF THE WEEK U.S. Forest Service opens some national forest land in California, but wildfires remain major problem in California, Oregon, elsewhere out West Wildfires are still burning in much of the West, but some states reported improvements in both air quality and containment - good news for residents and visitors and RVers traveling through the affected areas. The U.S. Forest Service eased restrictions in nine of California's national forests. (all 18 were closed last weekend). So far three million acres have burned in some 27 wildfires. Sequoia and Yosemite National Parks remain closed because of the fires and smoke. And in Oregon, where some one million acres have burned, many state parks and federally owned land remains closed. Use a fall color predictor to help you plan your fall travels Many of us enjoy camping in the fall, and one of the things we enjoy is taking in the beauty of the fall colors. To help you plan your travel when colors are at their peak, check out this national fall color predictor. Already some states, including mountainous areas in Montana, Colorado and northern Minnesota, are peaking. Others are not far behind. Jen and I are planning to get out this week, so look for reports on what we find. Florida house for sale with attached garage built to store 37-foot RV Most of us have heard of the phase house envy - but have you ever heard of garage envy? I'm guess, after you check out this story, you may get a case of it. A newspaper article in Florida featured a house for sale that had a special garage built so the homeowners could easily store their 37-foot RV. The garage is 60 feet long, 20 feet wide and 17 feet high, and is attached to the normal garage, which is attached to a "normal" three-bedroom house. The couple, who were selling their house because they no longer RV, said the garage was perfect at the time, and apparently others agree. The Cape Coral home was only for sale for one week, and received six offers. New Mexico state parks to allow residents to camp starting Oct. 1 New Mexico residents will be allowed to camp in most of their state parks beginning Oct. 1. This week, Cherie Ve Ard and Chris Dunphy, together known as Technomadia, share their journey from living in a small trailer to the bus conversion, class b, and boat that they travel in today. Along the way, they started the Mobile Internet Resource Center, and they’ll share their thoughts on the future of mobile internet connections, while giving us a preview of their new TV Show “The RVers” on the Discovery Channel.
On this week's episode of the Great Loop Radio podcast, Chris Dunphy & Cherie Ve Ard, also known as "Technomadia", are our guests. They'll be discussing the best options to ensure internet connectivity while Looping.
We’re back aboard the motor vessel Y-Not in Jacksonville, Florida, with nomadic tech celebs Chris Dunphy and Cherie Ve Ard of Technomadia.com and the Mobile Internet Resource Center. After 14 years together, Chris and Cherie are technically still on their fifth date. For us living full time in an RV or aboard a boat, they're famous. They’re forever on top of evolving mobile internet technology for a committed audience of raging fans. And since they run the Mobile Internet Resource Center from the road, they are walking the talk and living the dream. This conversation is as much about taking chances and pursuing a dream as much as it’s about cooperating in life and business as committed partners. And since beginning their life together inside a 16-foot travel trailer, they know about both the pursuit and the commitment.
Want to take a leap and pursue a dream? After 14 years, this couple is technically still on their fifth date. They’re also niche celebrities. Cherie Ve Ard and Chris Dunphy are world-famous tech geeks for their personal blog and website, Technomadia.com. Their business, The Mobile Internet Resource Center, advises those living in an RV or aboard a boat how to best connect to the internet. This pair has a really interesting yin and yang dynamic, and share a fondness for Burning Man. Their relationship began long before social media, when they met in an internet discussion forum about the Toyota Prius. They manage a staff of dedicated and driven employees whom they’ve never met. And their business is based on a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week news cycle related to all things mobile technology. It can be all consuming, yet they still figure out ways to take it easy and have some fun even when there is mayhem in the ether.
Cherie met Chris online after he was already full-time on the road and decided to sell her house to join him. They’ve been together on the road since 2006 evolving from a 16-foot trailer to a 17-foot trailer to currently a 35-foot vintage bus conversion and a 47-foot motor yacht! Both Chris and Cherie have backgrounds in tech so they were able to continue working on the road as long as they had an internet connection. As they shared their adventures and travels, they kept getting the same question over and over: How do they stay connected to the mobile internet? That question eventually led to a book called, The Mobile Internet Handbook. But it turns out mobile internet technology and options change very quickly. So the book quickly led to a website that’s constantly being updated with guides and reviews for different internet plans, hardware, and options. They offer a ton of free information while also being member supported so they can remain unbiased with their recommendations. In this episode, Chris and Cherie give us a general overview of how to approach your mobile internet needs and the options out there. We discuss why it’s important to assess your particular needs, the pros and cons to Wi-Fi, cellular, and satellite internet plus alternatives you’ve probably never thought of. They explain how a booster works and if you even need one along with how to maximize your hardware purchases so you don’t have to constantly upgrade. This is an extremely helpful and practical episode with a fun couple of people that you don’t want to miss! Today on the podcast I'm interviewing Chris and Cherie from Technomadia. I first interviewed Chris and Cherie back on Episode 9 of the podcast. Since then, they now have two nomadic homes. In the winter, they roam by land in a 1961 vintage bus conversion and in the warmer months they slowly cruise by motoryacht, exploring the Great Loop. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/rve/message
On Episode #9 of The RV Entrepreneur I sat down with Technomadia to talk about how the nomadic career and how they stay connected while boon-docking and staying in national parks. They’ve also been advisors to companies like RVillage and Xscapers, developed several of their own apps, and been at this RV lifestyle thing for longer than most. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/rve/message
