For this analysis, 12,242 internet speed tests from the nPerf app (available on Android and iOS) were considered in Ireland between January 1, 2024, and September 30, 2024. Ireland offered a mobile download speed 22 Mb/s faster than the UK. Portugal is the fastest country, offering an average of 177 Mb/s, 75 Mb/s faster than Ireland. France is in second place with an average of 113 Mb/s, followed by Ireland (102 Mb/s) and Germany (99 Mb/s). Behind Spain (85 Mb/s) are Italy (81 Mb/s) and the UK (80 Mb/s). In Ireland, the operators covered by these tests, which represent the total average speed, are Eir, Three and Vodafone. The average speed takes into account 3G, 4G, and 5G technologies. The Fastest Smartphone in Ireland In terms of mobile internet speed, the fastest device in Ireland is the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. The average speed with this device was 133 Mb/s between January and September 2024. In this category, Ireland is in last place. The United Kingdom is ahead of it with the iPhone 15 Pro Max (154 Mb/s on average). In this category, Portugal also achieves the fastest speed with the same iPhone 15 Pro Max (an average of 269 Mb/s). The same Apple device is also the fastest in France and Germany. What is the benefit of having a fast download speed on mobile? 1. Uninterrupted streaming: To watch high-definition videos on platforms or to listen to music without interruptions, a fast connection is needed to load content in real-time. 2. Quality video calls: High-definition video calls, essential for remote work and personal communication, require good speed to avoid delays, poor image quality, or call dropouts. 3. Fast downloads of files and applications: With a fast connection, downloading applications, updating software, or receiving large documents becomes a quick and easy process. 4. Smooth browsing experience: With good speed, websites and applications load instantly, making for a much more comfortable and faster user experience, without frustrating wait times In Ireland, the average loading time for a web page on mobile internet was 2 seconds, according to data from nPerf, between January and September 2024. This is the best result. The United Kingdom ranked last in this category, as well as in overall speed. nPerf offers a web browsing test in its app. The test, designed to precisely gauge loading times, focuses on five of the most frequented websites in the country. 5. Online gaming without latency: To play online, especially in multiplayer games, fast speed is essential to avoid lag or delays that could affect the gaming experience. 6. Increased productivity at work and study: Fast speeds enable professionals and students to perform cloud tasks, attend virtual classes, and access online resources seamlessly, enhancing efficiency and reducing wait times. In summary, a fast download speed on mobile facilitates a more comfortable and efficient user experience, allowing users to make the most of modern digital tools and services, which is fundamental in today's interconnected world. Access to mobile internet is driving economic development in Africa but the cost of buying a phone is still a major obstacle for ordinary traders. 85% of the sub-Saharan region is covered by networks but only 25% of people use it according to the mobile lobby group GSMA, now a company in Ghana has a plan to close this digital gap. Cyril Fianyo is a vegetable farmer in a village called Atabu in Ghana's Volta region. He believes his business has the opportunity to expand now he's able to use the internet on his phone. Fianyo is being shown how to navigate apps that interest him, including a third-party farming app called Cocoa Link that offers videos of planting techniques, weather information and details about the challenges of climate change affecting cocoa and other crops. Previously he was restricted to calls and texts. Now he's registered with a company called Uniti Networks. Fianyo uses his identity card to register with the firm, he's put on a deposit of 340 Ghanaian Cedis ($25) for the smartphone and will pay the remaining 910 Cedis ($66) in installments. Fianyo, who previously planted according to his intuition and rarely interacts with farming advisors, is optimistic that the technology will help him increase his yields. “I like searching on the phone so much,” he says. “When I got it, I saw that this phone is very smart, so I don't find it difficult to get some information that I want.” At a training session in Hohoe market, Uniti Networks' Rita Quansah teaches a digital literacy workshop to a small group of men and women. Quansah explains, “There are video tutorials as well in the app in Ewe so that those who are not able to even understand the English will be able to watch the videos in their local language.” The mobile lobby group GSMA says the mobile internet has enabled the sub-Saharan region to “leapfrog” certain infrastructure and service gaps by providing access to mobile money where formal banks have failed. Less than 50% of the population has access to a bank account, according to the World Bank. This article was provided by The Associated Press.
Lęk to strach bezprzedmiotowy. Welcome to part 2 of my conversation with Scott. The first part of our conversation was about his life in the mobile phone and tech industry. The bit you will hear now is about the shift. It was the point when he found clarity and stopped chasing money and fame. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Our guest on the show is a lifelong Innovator; it was his driving passion until something changed. Innovation is that seed of possibility; it is that inspiration that takes us forward to a future that is yet to be defined. We can all get excited by innovation and possibility, and at the same time, I have lived long enough to see the unintended consequences of our best inventions. This conversation is about motivation and wonder and how one gets lost when the passion gets distorted by money and the search for status. It is an amazing story of an innovator. Scott Stonham is a Brit born and raised in West London, now living in Reading. Technology was always his jam. Inspired by his uncle, who was an electrician, he tinkered and played with things to see how they worked. As a teenager, his uncle gave him a bank of switches, and he set about automating the gadgets in his room. He was not the classic geek, being a bit of a rebel who was inspired by movies like “Back to the Future”, which led to him learning to Skateboard—the Karate Kid, which led to martial arts and finally, the Terminator. Which lead to a university degree in Cybernetics. Upon leaving University, there was no cybernetics industry to join, so Scott went into software engineering and later got a job on Vodaphone. Scott Stonham is a lifelong innovator. This podcast is a fascinating exploration of innovation and the development of mobile applications in the late 90s at a time when there was no need for them. They were creating the business use and the market for the technology they were developing. Our guest, Scott Stonham, has helped bring to life many of the innovations that we take for granted, from the Mobile Internet to Smartphone Navigation. Over the last 25 years he had senior technology and marketing roles for multi-nationals, including Vodafone, Qualcomm and edgy technology start-ups in the UK, Europe and the USA. Today, Scott focuses his energy on driving positive impacts for people, nature and the planet. He is driven by the UN sustainable development goals and channels his work through two ventures: Leading an accelerator for Impact Startups and helping companies understand and address their digital carbon footprints. Scott is an advisor, speaker, and author of the Exploring Digital Carbon Footprints report, a contributor to the Open University and the founder of Digital Carbon Online. Colby and Eric dive into how to get reliable internet in your van so you can keep your remote job and live nomadically. Read our Ultimate Guide to Internet on the Road here. Peplink Routers and MIMO Antennas: We'll jump right into what we have found to be the BEST solution for generating RELIABLE internet on the road. That is the combination of a mobile router, such as the Peplink Transit Duo Pro, and a MIMO antenna, such as the Parsec Husky Pro 7-in-1 antenna. All of these things can be sourced through Mobile Must Haves, as well as the high gigabyte data plans that accompany them. Hot Spots and Cell Boosters: We dispel a few myths about cell boosters and hot spots and describe why those solutions will not yield the best internet connection possible. Trust us. We tried. Life was HARD! Starlink: We go over what many vanlifers think is the golden bullet of internet on the road is: Starlink. But that's not the case yet - there is definitely a list of pros and cons, and we describe who Starlink might work for, and who it would NOT work for. Here is who Starlink work for. The person who is: -Using internet where AVERAGE download/upload speed is needed, but not LIVE speeds. Think blogging, browsing the internet, watching editing videos, emailing, etc. -Frequenting locations with wide open horizons and clear views of the sky -Doesn't mind daily set-up and take down -Has extra battery and power generation capacity to handle ~500 Wh per day (assumes 10 hours or daily "online" activity) Here is who Starlink will NOT work for. The person who: -Needs to be on video calls and needs CONSTANT connection speeds -Moves daily, through inclement weather, or otherwise might be annoyed by daily set-up -Frequents areas with moderate tree cover or mountain ranges -Has a power system strapped for extra capacity Read our Starlink deep dive here. There is a time and place for many different internet solutions, but while on the road it's important to never rely on a single solution. For most of us this mean never relying on only a single cell carrier, but this also includes Starlink. There will be times when AT&T is better and Verizon is non-existent, vice versa, other times when the only way to get a signal is with Starlink, but also times when Starlink can't see its satellites so the only internet you can get is through cell carriers. In many ways living life on the road is cheaper than stationary living, but keeping your internet connection is one of the things that definitely costs more and is certainly more complicated. Don't let yourself down by leaving your internet as a weak point in your van life journey!

PM Narendra Modi-led union cabinet has cleared the auction of the 5G spectrum which will be held by the end of July, Expelled Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Naveen Kumar Jindal summoned by the Bhiwandi Police over his controversial tweets against Prophet Mohammed told them to send a questionnaire over email, A booster dose of anti-coronavirus vaccine Covaxin will enhance its efficacy against the Delta variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, and protect against the Omicron variants BA.1.1 and BA.2, and other top news in the bulletin.
Cambodia's long-ruling Prime Minister Hun Sen declared Monday that he would not appoint anyone to be a provincial governor who is not knowledgeable in the use of social media and smartphones. Hun Sen, an avid user of Facebook, said at a hospital inauguration in the capital Phnom Penh that officials need to be able to use applications such as WhatsApp, Viber, LINE, Telegram, WeChat and Zoom to effectively do their jobs, such as organizing online meetings. Hun Sen said recently he has set up groups on WhatsApp and Telegram so he can use his phone to coordinate with various government ministries. The 69-year-old Hun Sen has led Cambodia since first becoming prime minister in 1985, when what evolved into the internet was still in its infancy and generally available only to academic institutions. Hun Sen also urged members of his Cabinet, some of whom also entered government service more than three decades ago, to make sure they were adept in the use of smartphones and their apps. Hun Sen posts comments and photos on his Facebook page almost every day, and also uses the platform frequently to broadcast his speeches and other news events on Facebook Live. His page also allows people to send complaints about their dealings with the authorities. Hun Sen and Sam Rainsy, the country's main opposition leader, have competed in the past over who could attract the most Facebook followers. Hun Sen's page currently shows 13 million followers, while that of Sam Rainsy, who has been in self-imposed exile since 2015 to avoid criminal charges he says are politically motivated, lists 5 million. Hun Sen's critics, however, have charged that he boosts his number of followers by buying them in bulk from shady operations that provide such services. Hun Sen has denied the allegation. An organisation that practices diversity and inclusion has not just checked a box but set itself up to flourish. This is because a team defined by different voices and an atmosphere of safety does not just have happy members but has a far better chance of being truly innovative. Joseph Ghaly shares what he has learned about D&I during his professional experience that has spanned five continents. During his career, Joe has worked as State Relationship Manager of CSIRO, and Incumbent Director of Mobile Internet with Ericsson Telecommunications during the .com era. He also started the professional network, Brilliant Women Global. Joe covers the state of D&I as he has witnessed it in his experience in the tech sector across the globe. We talk about the need to break the traditional gender roles and what people can do in the workplace to take steps toward this aim. Joe talks about what led him to start his organisation, how D&I is approached at Brilliant Women Global, and all the amazing women who have joined the group. Our conversation also covers the impact of COVID on D&I in Australia and what the future holds!
Mobile Internet usage from connected devices like smart irrigation controllers has exploded over the last decade. From 2007-2017, data traffic on AT&T's wireless network increased more than 360,000 percent. But the upcoming 2G/3G network sunset dates are rapidly approaching in 2022. Implementing a transition plan will be essential for businesses to avoid significant disruption when these critical wireless networks they depend on for operating their smart controllers or other IoT devices the connectivity suddenly goes dark. Each iteration of wireless network technology has historically replaced the previous generation. But the idea that 5G will be a direct replacement for 4G is false. In fact, they're complementary and designed to coexist. Furthermore, 4G is expected to last for at least another decade, possibly longer, sharing the available spectrum between 4G LTE and 5G devices because of their integrated dependencies. The first 4G LTE sunset announcements as such aren't expected until after 2030, which means that companies can safely invest in 4G-based IoT solutions today and for the foreseeable future. Our guests from Digi International, a leading global provider of IoT connectivity products, services, and solutions, have connected 100 million-plus “things” over the past 30 years. We'll talk with them about what the 3G sunset means for business risk management, what will be possible only with 5G, and why most companies will be able to work just as well and at a significantly lower cost with the current 4G LTE technology. In this session, you will learn: Why do carriers shut down networks? Do all carriers have the same 3G sunset date? How will 4G LTE and 5G co-exist? What are the key considerations for choosing 4G LTE or 5G for irrigation applications?
