Intro/SummaryWater leaks can ruin an RV trip fast, especially when they go unnoticed before you hit the road. In this episode of The Smart RVer Podcast, Eric Stark walks through the most common places where RV leaks occur and how to find them before they cause costly damage.Eric covers roof leaks, plumbing leaks, appliance leaks, and those sneaky drips that only show up when the system is under pressure. He explains why a simple flashlight, a few paper towels, and a little patience can make leak detection much easier. You'll also learn why every RVer should carry a basic emergency repair kit with common PEX fittings, clamps, and a few simple tools. This episode is all about helping DIY RVers catch problems early, make basic repairs when possible, and keep small leaks from becoming trip-ending headaches.Show NotesIn this episode, Eric talks about one of the most important pre-trip inspections every RV owner should do: checking for water leaks. RVs are built with lightweight materials, and even a small leak can cause serious damage if it is ignored. Floors, walls, cabinets, insulation, and underbelly areas can all suffer when water gets where it does not belong.Eric explains the different types of leaks RV owners should watch for, including roof, plumbing, water heater, toilet, faucet, and appliance leaks. He also shares practical ways to track them down using simple items like a flashlight and paper towels. Sometimes the easiest method is still the best: pressurize the water system, slow down, and look closely. The episode also covers why it is smart to inspect your RV before a trip instead of discovering a leak at the campground. Eric encourages listeners to build a small emergency leak repair kit with common PEX fittings, tubing, clamps, and basic hand tools so they can handle minor problems on the road.Whether you are getting ready for your first trip of the season or preparing for a long haul, this episode will help you catch leaks early, protect your RV from water damage, and stay focused on enjoying the trip rather than dealing with repairs.TakeawaysIdentifying water leaks in an RV is crucial, as early detection prevents extensive damage.Using a flashlight and paper towels helps locate leaks in RV systems. It is vital to differentiate between the various types of leaks, such as freshwater and blackwater.Regular maintenance of RV seals and fittings is essential to prevent leaks and costly repairs.Tire-locking chocks effectively minimize movement in tandem-axle trailers, enhancing stability and comfort.Having an emergency kit with the necessary parts can ensure a smooth RV experience while traveling.Get The Free ChecklistResources Mentioned in this Episode: RV Pex Fittings and Tube - What to Keep in Your Tool BoxRV Water Lines and Fittings Made Simple in 2026Spray Port Fitting Video - Fix It Before It BreaksRV Pex Line Water Repair Kits - A must-have for any RVContact Us - Call, Text, Video, EmailOur Online Resources: The Smart Rver YouTube Channel - Check Out Our No-Nonsense YouTube VideosSunpro Mfg - RV Sunshade, Windshield Covers & Slide Out Awning FabricsHot Boat Ropes - Marine Cordage- Anchor Lines, Dock Lines, Tow Lines, etc.Top Rated Podcast - The Smart RVer Podcast Website

Welcome to the June 1, 2026 Monday News Edition of the RV Lifestyle Podcast. I'm Mike Wendland, and this week we have a show that every RV owner needs to hear before they hit the road this summer. We start with a story that I believe goes a long way toward explaining one of the biggest problems facing the RV industry right now: quality control. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration just released the May 2026 recall report, and it covers nearly 15,000 RVs across more than a dozen separate recalls. And before you assume this is routine housekeeping, let me tell you what is on this list. A Tiffin motorhome with a fuel tank punctured by a screw during manufacturing - NHTSA's own guidance says to park it outside and away from structures until the repair is done. A Jayco motorhome missing the water heater safety valve entirely - not defective, just absent. A Winnebago Solis with a propane hose routed directly over the exhaust heat shield. Grand Design Lineage motorhomes with two separate recalls in the same month - unsecured seats and solar panels that could detach at highway speed. And a long list of brands - including our own Brinkley Model Z - with shock bolts that were never properly tightened at the factory. Here is the part that matters most: manufacturers are not required to notify owners immediately. Some of the letters for these recalls are not going out until July. Two months from now. You should not be waiting. Go to NHTSA.gov, enter your VIN, and find out right now whether your rig is on this list. It takes thirty seconds and it could save your life or someone else's. We cover every brand affected, every defect, and every manufacturer phone number you need. From there we move to our RV Blunder of the Year, and I want to be upfront with you: this one comes with an asterisk. According to Cowboy State Daily, someone driving an RV pulled into the Maverik gas station in Montrose, Colorado, and emptied their black water tank - the toilet waste tank - directly into the station's underground diesel fuel supply. Not the dump station that was right there on the property. The diesel tank. We dig into what is actually confirmed, where the sourcing falls short, why the station's silence is a little suspicious, and why the story is worth telling regardless of whether every detail holds up. The lesson at the end of it applies to every new RVer on the road this summer. Then we get into the April 2026 RV industry shipment numbers, and they are not pretty. Total shipments came in at just over 29,000 units for the month - down more than 17 percent compared to April of last year. Through the first four months of 2026, the industry is running nearly 13 and a half percent behind 2025's pace. Towable RVs - the heart of the market - are down more than 20 percent year over year. We connect those numbers directly to the quality control failures we covered in the first story, because they are connected. Consumer confidence does not survive a steady diet of recall lists like the one we just walked through. That said, there is a genuine bright spot: motorhomes finished April up 13 percent compared to last year, and Park Model RVs jumped nearly 30 percent. We break down what those numbers mean and what to watch for the rest of the summer. We close with a story that felt like a breath of fresh air after everything else this week. Alliance RV - one of the most respected independent manufacturers in the business, known for their Paradigm, Avenue, Valor, and Delta lines - just held their seventh annual owner rally in Goshen, Indiana. Nearly 400 rigs and 800 owners showed up. And when someone from the audience asked founders Coley and Ryan Brady straight out whether they planned to sell the company, the answer was a flat no. Ten-plus years of runway ahead, their words. In an industry where Thor Industries and Winnebago have absorbed so many brands it is nearly impossible to keep track, Alliance is planting a flag and saying they are building something different. We tell you why that matters and what it means for RVers who value buying from a manufacturer that still has skin in the game.

This week on the RV Podcast News Edition, Mike Wendland digs into four stories every RVer should be paying attention to.First up: Is Camping World really in trouble? Rumors of bankruptcy exploded online after comparisons were made to the collapse of marine retailer West Marine. Mike separates the facts from the fear and explains what's really happening inside the RV industry right now. Then, Yosemite National Park is becoming a crowded mess. Reservation systems are gone, traffic is piling up, vandalism is increasing, and many park employees are sounding the alarm about what this summer could look like. Also in this episode: Why are RV owners staying home? KOA's CEO just revealed a troubling trend inside the camping industry. More RV owners than ever are using their rigs less often, or not at all. Rising travel costs, fuel prices, campground fees, and economic uncertainty are changing how people camp. And finally, some good news. In a world where so many people feel isolated and disconnected, camping may be one of the best antidotes to loneliness. New research shows RVers and campers are forming friendships and community connections unlike anywhere else. This is the RV Lifestyle Podcast News Edition for May 26, 2026.Stories Covered:

Today I am speaking with an RVer who redesigned his entire life after a brutal fall required him to learn to walk, write, speak and even swallow all over again. But, it opened the door for him to become a Workamper for a family-owned RV dealership working as a service advisor. Jim Bartleman thought he had life figured out. He was working as a service advisor in the automotive industry, planning for the future and preparing to eventually hit the road in an RV. But, everything changed in an instant after a devastating accident left him in a medically-induced coma and forced him to relearn how to walk, talk, read and swallow. Instead of giving up, Jim used that life-changing experience as motivation to completely redesign his life around what mattered most to him. Today, he and his girlfriend, Caryl Kinney, live fulltime in a Class C motorhome, Workamping at campgrounds in Texas during the winter and working seasonally at a New York RV dealership during the summer. In this episode, Jim shares how he turned a frightening setback into a new beginning. He also talks about why more RV dealers should hire Workampers and how the RV lifestyle has allowed him to reconnect with family, travel the country and focus on experiences instead of accumulating possessions. Jim shares his experiences dry camping under massive desert skies and learning French at a campground filled with Canadian snowbirds. Jimmy Bartleman and a donkey, George, he met at a Hipcamp farm. Based on his experiences, Jim explains why people should stop waiting until retirement to start living the life they want. Whether he is working seasonally at an RV dealership or serving as a camp host in Texas, Jim found a way to combine his passion for helping people with a lifestyle built around travel, flexibility and meaningful experiences. Along the way, he discovered the value of Workamping and the freedom that comes with full-time RV living as well as the importance of making memories while you still can. Jim also shared practical advice for new RVers and explained why smaller RVs can offer more flexibility. He talked about the growing number of younger people embracing the Workamping lifestyle long before retirement age. If you would like to follow Jim's adventures or connect with him directly, you can find him on Instagram or on Facebook. Most Workampers, like Jim, have interesting stories to tell about their travels and experiences. If you would you like to be featured in an upcoming episode of The Workamper Show, I encourage you to schedule an interview with me at workampershow.com. We'd love to hear about your Workamping experiences, how you got started RVing, and what you love and dislike about the RVing lifestyle. You can help others explore all the different ways to live this great lifestyle by sharing your story. If you are an employer of Workampers, we invite you to be on the podcast, too. Share all of the details of your Workamping jobs in a future episode. It only costs a little bit of your time. Schedule an interview with me today by going to workampershow.com. Last week, Jennifer and I got brutally honest about some of the dumbest, most expensive, and most embarrassing mistakes we've made in 15 years of RVing. Bent tailgates. Sewage explosions. Torn awnings. Backing disasters. Fuel mistakes. Near misses. And plenty of “please tell me nobody saw that” moments. So this week, Misery Loves Company. In this episode of the RV Podcast, we're sharing some of the funniest, most cringe-worthy, and painfully relatable RV mistakes sent in by fellow RVers, along with what caused them, what they learned, and how you can avoid making the same mistakes yourself. If you've ever:• Dumped your tanks wrong• Forgotten to retract something before driving away• Misjudged a turn or campsite• Backed into something• Made an expensive RV mistake you'll never admit publicly......this episode is for you.Because every RVer has a story. Usually more than one.Plus in this episode:• RV tips to help you avoid costly mistakes• Listener stories from the road• Smart lessons learned the hard way• A few laughs at our own expenseListen now and discover why sometimes the best RV lessons come from the worst RV mistakes.#RVLife #RVPodcast #RVMistakes #CampingFails #RVLiving #FifthWheel #Motorhome #TravelTrailer #RVTips #FullTimeRV

This week, I will be speaking with a couple who traded in a traditional lifestyle in Tennessee for life on the road and never looked back. RB and Trish Lipker have been Workamping across the country since 2023. They have accepted jobs in Florida, Pennsylvania, Texas, Nebraska and now Northern California. For nearly two years, they have been working at Costanoa, which is an RV park and resort along the California coast. RB and Trish share how they got started in Workamping after discovering the lifestyle online during COVID. They explain why they decided not to wait until retirement to travel, and how their daughter and son-in-law eventually joined them on the road. They also talk candidly about the joys and challenges of full-time RV living, including blowouts, lost wheels, damaged air conditioners and learning expensive lessons about RV repairs. You'll also hear why building relationships with fellow Workampers and campground guests has become one of the most rewarding parts of the lifestyle. Whether they were exploring Gettysburg, visiting Washington, D.C., or simply sitting around a campfire sharing stories, the Lipkers discovered that Workamping is about much more than free campsites and flexible jobs. It's more about community, adventure and making the most of their time. RB and Trish also offer practical advice for anyone considering Workamping. That includes why it's important to live within your means, the need to be prepared for repairs, and to avoid waiting for the “perfect” time to hit the road. One of the things I enjoyed most about this conversation was hearing how they adapted the lifestyle to fit their family instead of trying to force their family into someone else's version of Workamping. Their daughter uses her art education background to run campground activities while their son-in-law works in food service and catering. Meanwhile, RB and Trish have handled everything from campground management and maintenance to reservations and security. The Lipkers noted that Workamping can work for many different kinds of people. That includes younger folks who are entering the RV lifestyle in larger numbers, people working remote jobs and employers which are more open to accommodate people with unique skills and circumstances. I also appreciated their honesty about the realities of RV living. Things will break and repairs will be required. But, each challenge becomes a learning experience that makes you more capable and more confident down the road. Most of all, RB and Trish encouraged listeners not to wait too long to pursue the things they want to experience in life. Their story is a reminder that Workamping is not just about working to fund your travels. It's also about creating memories, building friendships and embracing opportunities while you still can. If you'd like to connect with RB or Trish Lipker, you can find them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/patricia.lipker or www.facebook.com/robert.lipker. They're happy to answer questions about Workamping or talk with campgrounds interested in hiring experienced Workampers. Today's episode is brought to you by Workamper News. Since 1987, they've been helping businesses of all types find and recruit Workampers. Workampers serve in a variety of positions around the country to help further the mission of great businesses. When you become an employer member at Workamper.com, you'll have access to resources and support to help you develop and implement your Workamper recruiting strategy. In today's market, it is more challenging than ever to keep a flow of applicants coming in. Workamper News recommends advertising your current and future Workamper job openings frequently throughout the year, as well as scheduling some time to regularly search the Workamper Resume Database because new Workampers are joining daily. Workampers like to plan many months ahead, so NOW is the time to take action to begin developing your Workamper team. Learn more and download our quick-start guide for employers at www.workamper.com/employer. That's all for this week's show. Next time, I will be speaking with an RVer who entered the lifestyle after experiencing a horrendous fall that altered every aspect of his life. I'll have that interview on the next episode of The Workamper Show. Thank you for listening!

RV service is one of those topics every RVer deals with, but few feel fully prepared for. In this episode, we break down the real-world options available when something goes wrong, or when it is time for routine maintenance. From traditional service centers to mobile techs, DIY repairs, and new players entering the space, this is a practical, no-nonsense look at what works, what does not, and how to make the right call when it matters most. What Sparked This Episode The conversation starts with recent news from Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores expanding into RV battery and tire service. This shift signals a potential change in how RVers handle service on the road, especially when speed and convenience matter. The Reality of RV Service RVs combine the complexity of a home and a vehicle, which means more systems and more opportunities for things to fail.Common challenges include: Long wait times at service centers Parts shortages Scheduling delays Being displaced from your RV during repairs Knowing your options before something breaks can save time, money, and frustration. Service Option #1: Traditional RV Service Centers (Dealers & Shops)Best for: Major repairs and warranty work Pros: Certified technicians Access to manufacturer support and parts Required for many warranty repairs Cons: Long wait times (often weeks or months) Higher labor costs Less urgency due to high volume May require leaving your RV behind When to use it: Structural issues, slide problems, or complex electrical systems Warranty-covered repairs Diagnostics that require specialized tools Service Option #2: Mobile RV TechniciansBest for: Convenience and faster turnaround Pros: They come to you Often quicker scheduling More personalized service Opportunity to learn during the repair Cons: Limited to smaller or mid-level repairs May not handle warranty claims Skill level varies Parts sourcing can delay completion When to use it: Appliance issues, plumbing, or electrical fixes On-the-road breakdowns Problems you want handled quickly without moving your RV Service Option #3: DIY RepairsBest for: Cost savings and control Pros: Lowest cost Immediate turnaround Builds knowledge and confidence Full control over quality Cons: Risk of mistakes Potential to void warranties Requires tools and time Not all repairs are DIY-friendly When to use it: Routine maintenance Simple fixes like fuses, filters, or minor electrical issues Situations where you are remote or off-grid New Option: Service at Travel CentersCompanies like Love's are introducing: Battery replacement Tire service for RVs Why it matters: Nationwide locations Potential for no-appointment service Designed specifically for travelers Pros: Fast and convenient Easy access along major routes Cons: Limited scope of services Still new, consistency may vary Not specialized beyond basic repairs Warranties and Service StrategyUnderstanding how warranties affect your options is critical. Considerations: Manufacturer vs extended warranties Required service locations Pre-authorization requirements Reimbursement vs direct billing Pros of using a warranty: Significant cost savings Cons: Longer wait times Limited flexibility More paperwork and approvals Real-world takeaway:Sometimes it is faster and less stressful to pay out of pocket rather than wait on warranty approval. How to Decide: A Simple FrameworkAsk yourself: How urgent is the issue? Can I safely drive? Is it covered under warranty? Do I have the skills and tools? Quick breakdown: Urgent + simple → Mobile tech or travel center Complex + warranty → Service center Simple + confident → DIY Pro Tips from Experience Build a relationship with a reliable mobile tech Learn your RV's core systems (12V, water, propane) Carry essential spare parts Stay ahead with preventative maintenance Document everything for warranty claims Key TakeawayThere is no single “best” option for RV service. The most experienced RVers use a mix of service centers, mobile techs, and DIY depending on the situation. The more you understand your options, the less stressful RV ownership becomes. Episode: LTGL2602 – Sarah Jones | RV Life, Real Growth & Redefining FreedomWhat happens when you make a five-minute decision that completely changes your life?In this episode, Kimberly sits down with fellow full-time RVer and multi-passionate entrepreneur Sarah Jones to talk about what it really looks like to build a life—and a business—on the road. No perfect plan. No polished blueprint. Just a willingness to say yes… and figure it out along the way. From an unexpected start (think: “we need a place to live” energy) to four and a half years of full-time travel, Sarah shares how this lifestyle has shaped not just her work, but who she's becoming. This conversation goes beyond RV logistics and into something deeper—freedom, fear, nervous system health, and what it means to truly feel at peace in your own life.In this episode, you'll hear:How a spontaneous decision turned into a full-time RV lifestyleThe difference between having a “dream” and allowing life to unfoldWhat it's really like to run a business on the road (the good, the messy, and the honest)The challenge of building community without a physical “home base”Why routines may fail you—and habits might save youA powerful personal realization about stress, cortisol, and nervous system healthSimple shifts that made a big difference in sleep, clarity, and overall well-beingThe surprising truth about “balance” on the roadReal talk about RV ownership (including the maintenance most people ignore)The RV Evolution (because yes…they have names) Sarah shares her journey from a small, older fifth wheel to a full-scale HDT (Heavy Duty Truck) setup:Started with a modest fifth wheel out of necessityUpgraded to a 41-foot home-on-wheelsNow travels in a full semi setup (yes, really)And meet the crew:Cash – the semi truckCarmen – the fifth wheelVicky – the motorcycleBenny – the carA deeper thread: From “doing all the right things” to actually feeling better One of the most powerful parts of this conversation is Sarah's realization that even when she was:Eating wellExercising consistentlyDoing everything “right”…something still felt off. That led her to explore nervous system regulation, stress, and the impact of living in a constant low-level fight-or-flight state—and how small, consistent habits (not just routines) can begin to shift that.Practical wisdom for RV life If you're even thinking about RVing, don't miss this: You are not doing enough maintenance. It's not glamorous, but it's essential. Sarah shares why small, daily awareness can save you from major headaches (and expenses) down the road.Sarah's advice for aspiring RVers: You don't need to have it all figured out. If you feel the pull to travel—even just for a few weeks or months—find a way to try it. The experience alone can change how you see your life, your priorities, and what's actually possible._______________________________________________About Sarah Jones:Sarah Jones is a financial coach, full-time RV adventurer, and host of the Traveling Towards Wealth Podcast. Today, I am speaking with a Workamper who makes a living through traditional Workamping jobs as well as by installing RV roof protection products. She also offers a warning about the difference between W-2 income and 1099 independent contractors. Jessica Peacock is a full-time RVer who has spent the past three years traveling across 21 states while combining Workamping with independent contract work in the RV industry. Jessica shares how she and her fiancé found a unique way to stay on the road by installing lifetime RV roof protection systems. It is a job that allows them to travel from location to location while earning income. She also opens up about an issue many Workampers face, but don't always fully understand until it is too late. That's the difference between 1099 contractor work and W-2 employment. Jessica explains how those differences can impact taxes, scheduling, overtime and overall job expectation. She discusses why it is so important to ask the right questions before accepting any position. If you are considering Workamping or looking for creative ways to earn money while traveling, this conversation offers some valuable real-world insight. Jessica's story is a great reminder that the Workamping lifestyle offers incredible freedom, but it also requires awareness and preparation. From her experience installing RV roof systems as a 1099 contractor, she has created a way to earn income while traveling to places most people never see. At the same time, her challenges with 1099 versus W-2 employment highlight how important it is to understand how you are classified, how taxes are handled, and what that means for your income and workload. She also reinforced the importance of asking detailed questions before accepting any Workamper position so there are no surprises when you arrive. Beyond the work itself, Jessica clearly values the people she meets, the places she explores, and the sense of freedom that comes from living on the road. She has experienced great employers and difficult situations, and those lessons have helped her build a better path forward. If you would like to connect with Jessica or ask her questions about her journey, you can find her on Facebook under Jessica Lynn Peacock. She is happy to help others who are looking to leave the traditional 9-5 lifestyle and explore the country through Workamping. Today's episode is sponsored by Workamper News. Much more than just a job-listing website, when you put the tools of this professional service into action, you'll find out just how easy it can be to turn your Workamping dreams into reality. A Workamper membership opens the door to a one-stop-shop for all-things Workamping. Being the original resource for Workamping, you'll find the largest number of job listings, be able to connect with a community of Workampers, and view resources compiled by experts who have been enjoying the RV lifestyle for many years. This week on the RV Lifestyle Podcast News Edition, we are covering the stories that actually matter to your life on the road - and we are not pulling punches.TARIFF CHAOS IS HITTING YOUR NEXT RV We dig deep into the regulatory whiplash that is hammering RV manufacturers right now. It starts with a piece of wood you have never heard of - lauan plywood - and expands into a full picture of how cascading tariffs on steel, aluminum, and imported materials are forcing manufacturers to make pricing decisions in the dark. We also cover the composite alternatives some builders are quietly pivoting toward, and why this mess may actually change how RVs are built for years to come.A FLORIDA FAMILY'S RV EXPLODED. HERE'S WHAT EVERY RVer NEEDS TO DO RIGHT NOW. A 32-foot travel trailer in Lecanto, Florida exploded earlier this month, sending two adults and two children to trauma centers with severe burns. The cause is still under investigation. We use this story to share a number that should stop every RV owner cold - how many RV fires happen in this country every single year - and walk you through a practical spring safety checklist you need to complete before your first trip of the season.THE WORLD IS A MESS. AMERICANS ARE GOING CAMPING. Despite economic uncertainty, trade war anxiety, and a broad pullback in international travel, campground operators across the country are reporting strong advance bookings heading into summer. We tell you why right now is actually a great time to be an RVer - and why you need to book your summer sites this week before they disappear.WE COULDN'T FIND THE RIGHT TOOL. SO WE BUILT IT. Jennifer and I looked at every trip planning app on the market - The Dyrt, Campendium, RV Life, AllStays - and none of them did what we actually needed as full-timers. So we built our own. The brand new RV Lifestyle Trip Planning Dashboard just launched this weekend. It is a web-based planning hub built from the ground up for RVers - route mapping, campground logging, your own ratings and notes, rig specs, travel journal, and a searchable history of everywhere you have ever been. All in one place. On every device you own. We tell you the whole story - and there is a full walkthrough video waiting for you at RVLifestyle.com/tripdashboard.A DEALER CLOSED ITS DOORS. CUSTOMERS CAN'T GET THEIR RVS BACK. We close with a consumer warning story out of California that we see play out in this industry several times every year. An RV dealership in Lockeford abruptly shut down, and customers are now telling the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office they cannot recover their money - or in some cases their own rigs. We walk you through the warning signs that were publicly visible before this happened, and give you a practical checklist for vetting any dealer before you hand over a dollar or a set of keys.LINKS AND RESOURCES MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE:RV Lifestyle Trip Planning Dashboard: https://RVLifestyle.com/tripdashboardRVCommunity.com membership: https://RVCommunity.comRV Industry Association tariff updates: https://www.rvia.org/news-insights/latest-tariff-developmentsU.S. Fire Administration RV Fire Data: https://www.usfa.fema.gov/statistics/reports/where-fires-occur/snapshot-rv-fires.htmlNational Park Service RV Fire Safety: https://www.nps.gov/articles/p52-rv-fire-safety-101.htm

This week's RV Podcast News Edition tackles five stories that cover a lot of ground, starting with a topic the rest of the RV media won't touch: the growing RV homelessness crisis. From Michigan lawmakers debating whether campgrounds can serve as housing solutions, to San Francisco banning large vehicles from city streets, to the quiet erosion of overnight parking at places like Cracker Barrel, this issue is reshaping public policy in ways that affect every RVer on the road.We also dig into a major CNBC investigation revealing how RVs have become a housing safety net in Silicon Valley, where even full-time workers are living in aging rigs on public streets because they have no other option. On the good news front, the National Park Service has officially dropped timed-entry reservation requirements at Yosemite, Arches, and Glacier for 2026. If those parks have been on your list, the reservation window is gone. We break down what that means practically and what to expect when the summer crowds arrive. We also have the full story on Leigh Tiffin's sudden resignation from Tiffin Motorhomes and his move to luxury dealer group NIRVC. He finally broke his silence this week, but the timeline tells a more complicated story: a 20-month negotiation happening behind the scenes, a plant closure affecting 140 workers, and Thor quietly consolidating control over what was once a true family brand. And we close with a look at why 2026 is shaping up to be one of the biggest RV travel years on record - and why you need to make sure your rig is ready before the campgrounds fill up. RV CONVERSATION OF THE WEEK - The RV Accident That Changed Everything Andy and Joanne Larrimore are longtime RVers who, earlier this year, set out on what was supposed to be their biggest adventure yet. They packed up their Class A, hooked up their toad, and rolled out of southeast Massachusetts bound for Florida. The trip started exactly the way RV dreams are supposed to start, sunshine, family time, and a memorable stop at Disney with loved ones in Orlando. But a couple of weeks in, everything changed. Andy came down with a serious upper respiratory infection. Then word came that Joanne's mom, who was in a nursing home, was not doing well. They made the tough decision to cut the trip short and head back north. Somewhere in South Carolina, the unthinkable happened. Andy blacked out behind the wheel, and their rig crashed. Both Andy and Joanne were med-lifted separately to the hospital. They suffered serious injuries, and the road to recovery has not been easy. Thankfully, they are both doing much better today. And here is the part of their story that really matters, they are not done with the RV lifestyle. The Larrimores have chosen to share what they went through, what they learned, and the lessons that could help every one of us travel safer and smarter. This is a powerful conversation about resilience, preparedness, and why even life-changing setbacks do not have to mean the end of the road. Listen or watch their interview in the podcast players above. This part of the podcast is sponsored by RVOvernights, where you can stay free at farms, wineries, and attractions across the country. RV NEWS OF THE WEEK Forget Candy Bars—This Iowa Mall Vending Machine Dispenses Starlink So we've heard of getting a can of soda or maybe a Snickers bar from a vending machine, but a Starlink system?? Yet that is exactly what happened in Iowa! A self-serve vending machine quietly appeared at a shopping mall's food court in Des Moines. It is designed to dispense a standard Starlink dish and accessories, including mounts and the Wi-Fi router. Word is that more are coming. No More Reservations: Glacier National Park Rethinks Summer Access This is a big story for fans of Glacier National Park… Reservations will NOT be needed at Glacier for the summer of 2026. Why, because the National Parks Service says the system did not work as planned. The reservation system, started four years ago, was supposed to cut down on long afternoon lines by requiring people to register to enter between 7 am and 4 pm. What happened is mid-day traffic was much better, but the early morning crowds trying to beat the registration time became problematic, causing new issues. So now the popular park is doing away with reservations altogether. Trump on the 2026 Park Pass? Lawsuit Says Not So Fast Okay… we try to steer away from politics but this is a story we couldn't ignore. An environmental group is suing to remove President Donald Trump's picture from the 2026 National Park Service's Annual Pass. The 2026 Annual Pass features a picture of President George Washington and President Trump and the number 250 for the country's 250th birthday. The Center for Biological Diversity's lawsuit claims the design violates a law that requires the America the Beautiful pass to feature a photo taken on public lands that won an annual photo contest. The Secretary of the Interior says the photo winner will be on the pass for foreign visitors, while Trump's picture will be on the one for U.S. residents. Stay tuned. A lone black bear meandered in. The black bear casually cut through the crowds and walked down the parade route for a bit, as stunned onlookers sat along the curb watching in disbelief. Some visitors captured video - after all, this is not something you see every day! Is this a fuse or breaker issue? Open to suggestions to fix the problem. RV connected to shore power. ANSWER: This happens a lot with RVs. It's almost always a tripped GFI plug. On the Unity, I believe it's on the side of the passenger pass-through storage area or in the bathroom. Just push in the little recessed switch between the plugs and you'll be good. QUESTION: From Larry: Why are Class B campervans so expensive? The one we want is almost $250,000. I can get a Class A for that, or a luxury fifth wheel and a brand new heavy-duty truck. I don't get it. Campervans are small. ANSWER: You're absolutely right to be scratching your head at those price tags. When you see a campervan that's basically built on a cargo van chassis hitting a quarter million dollars, it feels ridiculous, especially when you could roll into a dealership and drive out with a gorgeous 40-foot Class A motorhome for the same money. Or like you said, snag a top-of-the-line fifth wheel and a fully loaded F-350 and still have cash left over. Here's the deal: you're paying a massive premium for engineering magic in a tiny space. Think about it: those Class B builders are cramming a full bathroom with a real shower, a kitchen with actual counter space, sleeping accommodations, storage, and all your systems (electrical, plumbing, heating, cooling) into what's essentially a walk-in closet on wheels. That level of space efficiency doesn't come cheap. The other factor? Volume. The big RV manufacturers are pumping out hundreds or thousands of Class A motorhomes and fifth wheels every year. They've got economies of scale working for them. Meanwhile, Class B builders are producing these things in much smaller numbers, often with semi-custom features and higher-end components. You're not getting the mass-production discount. Plus, that Mercedes, Ford Transit or RAM ProMaster base chassis aren't exactly cheap to begin with, and then you're adding premium materials because everything has to be lightweight and compact. Those fancy European-style cabinets, that space-saving toilet, that innovative bed system: it all costs more than the standard RV stuff. And let's be honest, there's a lifestyle tax baked in too. Class B campervans became the hot ticket for a certain “van life” demographic who wants to look like they're just driving a cool van while secretly having all the amenities. That "stealth camping" capability and the ability to fit in a regular parking spot? The market will bear a premium price for those benefits. Does it make financial sense?
