Chronic pain originated from genetic degenerative disc disease after the birth of her second child, leading to muscle spasms, failed artificial disc implant (FDA trial), spinal fusion, and permanent nerve damage in both legs. At peak pharmaceutical use, Shelley was on approximately seven medications — including pain, antidepressant, anxiety, insomnia, nausea, and panic medications — with five taken daily. Side effects from pharmaceuticals included nausea, vomiting, appetite loss, hair loss, poor nail and dental health, and chronic lack of deep sleep. Cannabis was first introduced by her Colorado chronic pain specialist, who permitted concurrent use with pain medication; she began with edibles primarily to address severe appetite loss and weight loss. Beyond appetite, cannabis progressively reduced anxiety, stress, and other symptoms, surprising Shelley given her Gen X perception of it as a "stoner drug." Her doctor's indictment for Medicare fraud in Colorado — abandoning 250+ patients overnight and destroying records — forced a pivotal choice; she opted to transition fully to cannabis rather than restart the pharmaceutical advocacy process. Going cold turkey off pain medication in 2020 was manageable partly because cannabis had already built mental resilience, contrasting with pharmaceuticals which she felt made her mentally unstable. Shelley noted it took approximately five years after stopping pharmaceuticals to feel chemically different — lighter and healed — underscoring the long-term impact of pharmaceutical residue. A spinal cord stimulator implanted roughly seven years into her chronic pain journey provided ~40% pain relief via leads and an internal battery; the leads are now burning out but she has decided against replacement surgery due to prior nerve damage risk. Current cannabis regimen: ~50mg hybrid edible (CBD/CBN blend) each morning plus smoking at night for relaxation and sleep, with the ability to self-regulate dosage by cutting down without withdrawal. Stigma encountered from her generation includes perceptions of cannabis as a lazy, unmotivated, or gateway drug — compounded by prior stigma as a chronic pain patient during the opioid epidemic. Cannabis is credited with delivering mental clarity and stability, directly countering the common misconception that it causes fogginess or impaired thinking. Chronic pain described as an all-consuming mental battle; cannabis enabled Shelley to stay present and mentally strong rather than constantly focused on pain — a key quality-of-life shift. The Book of Nehemiah tells the story of the Israelites rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. But before we get to the action, we see Nehemiah's heart and his relationship with God through his prayer. He's a man who knows how to talk to a king, but more importantly, he knows how to talk to God. His prayer is a model for us, showing us how to approach God with reverence, humility, and a deep understanding of our need for Him. As we examine Nehemiah's prayer, we see that it's not just a list of requests, but a conversation with God: He starts by giving God glory, acknowledging His greatness and power. He then brings himself lower, recognizing his own sin and the sin of his people. He reminds God of His promises and asks for mercy, not just for himself, but for his people. He brings his request to God His prayer follows the same pattern as other prayers in Scripture, including many of the Psalms and the Our Father prayer. I was suspended after criticising Israel's actions in Gaza, and the US-Israeli and British war on Iran. Police arrested me at my home, leaving my children to look after each other. This is the third time I've been targeted by the police and I have faced multiple vexatious complaints and attacks at work - all coming from the state and the zionist lobby working hand in glove with our government. The management are complicit and collaborate in creating this politically repressive environment. In every case of police and workplace harassment, it is the “IHRA definition of antisemitism” that is being used as a benchmark to adjudicate what is “legitimate speech”. The definition was designed as a data gathering tool, and was never intended to become a law, or to be used in this way. Theresa May adopted it for the UK together with Nicola Sturgeon in 2016 without any consultation. The major political parties followed suit (including Plaid Cymru, SNP, Liberal, Labour and the Greens). It was pushed on police forces, schools and colleges, and Wes Streeting has been pushing it actively into the heart of the NHS. So now we have a situation in which existing laws (Public order act, professional regulatory frameworks, university regulations and constitutions) are being interpreted in its light, and the IHRA definition is therefore being “applied” as “law” - to silence legitimate speech on Palestine, and criticism of Israeli, US and British genocide. The Communist Party of Great Britain (Marxist-Leninist) held a screening of the landmark 1948 Polish film The Last Stage (Ostatni etap). Directed by Wanda Jakubowska — a communist, resistance fighter, and survivor of Auschwitz — the film was among the first cinematic depictions of the Nazi concentration camps and the organised resistance that developed within them. Several Auschwitz survivors appear in the film, portraying roles closely connected to their own lived experiences just a few years after the liberation, adding a rare and powerful layer of direct testimony and lived experience to its reconstruction of events. Produced in postwar people's democratic Poland and filmed partly on location at Auschwitz itself, The Last Stage stands as both historical testimony and a forceful affirmation of the role played by communists in the struggle against fascism and genocide. At a time when our ruling class seeks to discredit communists and anti-imperialists as “anti-Semitic” for expressing solidarity with oppressed peoples and resisting imperialist war, occupation, sanctions, and national oppression, this screening reasserts a clear historical record: communists were at the forefront of the struggle against racism, fascism, colonialism, and war. The CPGB-ML stands firmly against all forms of racism, including anti-Semitism, while rejecting attempts to weaponise such accusations in order to silence political solidarity and internationalist struggle.
