Ending three hexes in three weeks wasn't doable for Everton. Stamford Bridge remains the least happiest of all their Premier League hunting grounds. Matt and Paddy assess some of the collateral damage from that defeat. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Jack Grealish have picked up injuries at the worst possible time for the Toffees, with Iliman Ndiaye and Idrissa Gueye now off to Africa Cup of the Nations. We take a closer look at Tyler Dibling's peculiar situation ahead of what will be a big month for him and look at James Garner's contract situation after he and Moyes played down rumours an agreement was imminent. Everton turned in their most complete performance of the season to put three past Nottingham Forest without reply and briefly move up to fifth in the table. With Chelsea away up next comes the chance to move into fourth spot ahead of the London club - can we start looking towards European qualification, and was Moyes right to call out the possibility following the win over Forest? We also discuss the news that The Winslow will be closing its doors next month after 140 years of serving the Goodison faithful. Should the club step in to preserve a piece of Everton history? The Gunners verliezen van Aston Villa en zien Man. City zo plots naderen tot op twee punten in het klassement. Verder is Everton de winnaar van de week en knokt Crystal Palace - Daniel Muñoz op kop - zich naar de vierde plaats in de stand. LISTEN IN FULL: https://tinyurl.com/2zzf9zfa Fresh from the win over Bournemouth, Matt and Dave are back to discuss the win. We look at the team's up-and-down form in recent days and what expectations should really be for this group. We also assess the impact of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Jack Grealish after their arrivals in the summer. Attention then turns to Nottingham Forest on Saturday - and Sean Dyche's return to Merseyside.
Les and Dave reflect on Saturday's horror show against Newcastle and ask whether there's a lack of accountability at Everton, especially Moyes' post-match comments. Was it on the manager? Was it on the players? Are Newcastle just better? Or all of the above? We also look ahead to what could be a crunch week (and month) for how Everton's season and the rest of the Premier League will pan out. Everton go into another international break on the back of a win. And it felt like a big one at Hill Dickinson Stadium. We start by looking at Thierno Barry's performance. The forward felt the love after his best display in an Everton shirt - was a conscious effort made to rally around him after his miss at Sunderland? We also assess the changes Moyes made to the team and whether they are short-term or long-term solutions. With that in mind, our last topic is transfer-related. Would an experienced striker like Richarlison or Ivan Toney make sense in January? Or should Everton keep their powder dry until the summer? Text us your wine questions, craziest wine experiences, or if you just have a comment for us. . Alison Moyes loves Pinot Noir and it's clear that it's mutual. Working with this grape for the past 15 years, she has met the challenges of the most finicky of grapes variety in three different wineries in three different sub-regions with apparent ease. She's curious, thoughtful, and well-spoken, all of which you will hear in this candid conversation that took place near the end of her 5th vintage with Solvero Wines. Turns out we had a lot in common, growing up in central Canada, going to university on the east coast, and then coming to BC. Everton are in a bad run of form with just one win in seven and some awful performances - one of which was for 60 minnutes against Sunderland. The manager has largely kept the same team and is making some terrible and confusing substitutions. Reactions have largely been very negative with some calling for Moyes to be sacked - are we too extreme in our views? Is the team about where it should be? And how important is the weekend's game against Fulham? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
What a dreary day at Hill Dickinson Stadium. It was a terrible weather and terrible result - but was the performance against Spurs really *that* bad? The no-nonsense full-back started his playing career at home city club Birmingham before spells at Blackburn Rovers, Preston North End – where he first worked alongside David Moyes – and Halifax Town before swapping his boots for the physio's bag. Nicknamed ‘Baz' after actor Basil Rathbone, who was famous for playing Sherlock Holmes, he shares an array of anecdotes about his two spells at Everton, the first of which lasted from 2002-2010.Mick, 66, recalls how he was initially scared to take up a role at Goodison Park and tried to price himself out of a move, how he won favour with an intimidating Duncan Ferguson when first arriving through the door, how he was often on the receiving end of players' practical jokes and how he made up a story about the manner of his departure that prompted Moyes to get straight on the phone to him. When it comes to his book, the third and final part of the highly acclaimed The Smell Of Football trilogy is told with flair and unique insider insight. Mick concludes his riveting football memoir with a 100-day diary starting in the early 2024/5 season. Once again, he brings us a unique insight into the world of professional football, this time through his role as a physio. Written with humour and candour, the book demonstrates that incredibly fine line between winning and losing – the width of a goalpost or a referee's decision – and the diametrically opposed emotions they bring. This book is for diehard fans who support their team unconditionally, season after season. It will show them just how much the players and officials really do care and, sadly, just how painful and emotionally draining defeat is. It is an honest account that draws on the author's incredible 50 years in professional sport, bringing to life the day to day running of a professional football club.Link to the book:https://www.pitchpublishing.co.uk/shop/smell-football-iii Chris Beesley's Book: Spirit of the Blues: https://tinyurl.com/35yrkvdb *Emotional farewell to Goodison Park | 16-page Everton souvenir picture special:* https://shop.regionalnewspapers.co.uk/liverpool-echo-monday-19th-may-2025-4583-p.asp *Goodbye to Goodison special souvenir edition:* https://tinyurl.com/GoodbyeGoodisonSouvenir *Gavin Buckland's Book 'The End' | Order your copy here:* https://tinyurl.com/GavinBucklandTheEnd Everton FC podcasts from the Liverpool ECHO's Royal Blue YouTube channel. New season, same old Everton as David Moyes's depleted side fumbled their way through 82 minutes of goalless action before being undone by a controversial penalty decision that allowed Lukas Nmecha to fire home the winner for Leeds at Elland Road. We do a grisly post-mortem on a dreadful season-opener and discuss whether Moyes's team selection and substitutions made sense on the night. We lament another maddening and costly refereeing decision and offer our thoughts on what the club's priorities should in the transfer market be ahead of Sunday's historic game at Hill Dickinson Stadium Hosted on Acast. Everton earned a point with a vastly improved performance in their final Premier League Summer Series match against Manchester United. It was a fair result and a good one for Everton and Moyes. Clearly, there is plenty to do ahead of the first game of the Premier League season with more signings a top priority, however Everton showed just how competitive they can be with much improved display. Join Ian Croll, Gav Buckland and Joe Thomas for the Monday edition of the Royal Blue podcast. Everton suffered an embarrassing 3-0 defeat at the hands of Bournemouth in their Premier League Summer series opener. Moyes' men started brightly and edged the first half despite failing to take the lead. The second half was a different story however, as Bournemouth scored three without reply, two of the goals coming from avoidable mistakes thanks to mishaps from Nathan Patterson and Jake O'Brien. Preparation ahead of the game wasn't helped by more injury woe with Everton missing three central defenders. Moyes was forced to field a makeshift back line which held strong during the first half, but faltered in the second. It's clear that Everton need reinforcements across the pitch and the need for players won't be helped by Moye' open and honest comments in a recent Athletic interview where he said the club were struggling to bring in the players he wants. The lads on today's show discuss all that and more on the latest Royal Blue podcast.
