RNIB Connect Radio's Toby Davey is joined again by Vidar Hjardeng MBE, Inclusion and Diversity Consultant for ITV News across England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands for the next in his regular Connect Radio theatre reviews. This week we have one of Vidar's favourite musicals with Willy Russell's legendary musical Blood Brothers at the Birmingham Hippodrome Theatre with description by Professional Audio Describer Jonathan Nash. About Blood Brothers: Blood Brothers tells the captivating and moving tale of two twins who, separated at birth, grow up on opposite sides of the tracks, only to meet again with fateful consequences. Few musicals have received quite such acclaim as the multi-award winning Blood Brothers. Bill Kenwright‘s production surpassed 10,000 performances in London's West End, one of only three musicals ever to achieve that milestone. It has been affectionately christened the “Standing Ovation Musical”, as inevitably it “brings the audience cheering to its feet and roaring its approval” (The Daily Mail). The superb score includes Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe and the emotionally charged hit Tell Me It's Not True. Former Everton co-owner Paul Gregg has spoken to the ECHO's Chris Beesley for a special edition of the Royal Blue podcast to coincide with the release of his autobiography Backstage Without A Pass. The theatre impresario - who sold his entertainment company for the equivalent of £350million in today's money - arrived at Goodison Park in 1999 when he matched Bill Kenwright's £7.5million stake in buying the club from Peter Johnson. Gregg tried to bring about Everton's first attempt to relocate to the Mersey waterfront with ambitious plans for a stadium at King's Dock but ended up having a well-documented fall-out with Kenwright over the failure of the project. During his time with the Blues, he helped strike sponsorship deals with Keijan and Chang while also having disagreements with the chairman over managers Walter Smith and David Moyes. Despite the tumultuous nature of his time at Everton, Gregg still looks back on his time on Merseyside with fondness but also has strong opinions on both the current ownership issues and the new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock. For this week's bonus podcast, we chat about the character of Gordon Clegg, following the recent passing of actor Bill Kenwright. Plus, he was the centre of one of Weatherfield's most scandalous stories of the 70s... so of course, there's plenty for us to sink our teeth into!

On our latest podcast, we share our thoughts on the episodes of Corrie shown between the 23rd and the 25th October (Episodes #11091 - 11096). Poor old DS Swain, eh? Two hot leads this week - one after a massive wodge of cash mysteriously appears in Michael's bag and another when the perp is literally seen running into someone with his car and killing them - and both walk away scot free! Yes, the debate about just how much guilt Peter should be feeling about seeing off Stephen continues to rage on this week, but even though it looks like the police won't be punishing him this time, he certainly seems to be giving himself a good flogging in his own mind... Also this week, Sam invites Hope to the Bistro's Halloween do, Courtney continues to duck out of anything that seems remotely like work, and Ryan and Daisy manage to avoid giving into their carnal desires... but for how long? There's sad news in the Kabin as we chat about the news that Corrie alumnus Bill Kenwright has passed away, and we finish off the show with more of your thoughts about last week's Corrie. "The Good Listening To" Podcast with me Chris Grimes! (aka a "GLT with me CG!")
Ladies n' Genminminminmin (er, min...) please welcome the warm and wonderful silky-voiced beauty Michael Fenton Stevens to "The Good Listening To" Clearing!Michael Fenton Stevens is an English actor and comedian. He is best known for being a founder member of The Hee Bee Gee Bees and the voice behind the Spitting Image 1986 number 1 hit "The Chicken Song":"Hold a chicken in the air Stick a deckchair up your nose Buy a jumbo jet and then bury all your clothes Paint your left knee green then extract your wisdom teeth Form a string quartet and pretend your name is Keith" We've all done it...Mike also has his own wonderful podcast called "My Time Capsule":A podcast that asks guests, such as Stephen Fry, David Mitchell, Caroline Quentin, Ross Noble, Lee Mack, Arabella Weir & Rob Brydon, for five things which they'd like to put in a Time Capsule. They can choose anything from an item, to a memory, a film or even a country. Four of them are things they want to preserve but one has to be something they're happy to lock away and never have to think about again. And he's also been in the seminal BBC sit-com "Only Fools & Horses".Like the Great Gatsby before him, Michael Fenton Stevens has always been proud to be an Oxford man - albeit more Brookes than Balliol. When, in his second year, Michael was introduced to fellow student, Mandy Fenton, it was love at first sight - at least as far as Michael was concerned. But, a bit like Doris Day, he kept his love a secret. When a subtle twist of fate revealed that Mandy Fenton also had feelings for Michael Stevens, they started on a path to becoming Mr and Mrs Fenton Stevens. They had children and now their children have children. First and foremost, Michael Fenton Stevens is a family man and his wife, Mandy Fenton Stevens, has a PhD in Bio Chemistry. Michael remains her greatest fan to this day and acknowledges the profound personal transformation that he attributes primarily to her. Michael's other greatest influencers were his own parents, both alas no longer with him. His father, Harry, was a good professional comic before becoming a full-time criminal defence lawyer, who still enjoyed singing old music-hall songs at weekends, often encouraging Michael to join him on stage. Originally also, Michael followed in his father's footsteps for a year or two, as a potential legal eagle - but all he ever really wanted to do was tread the boards himself, in his own right. Taking his father's advice, Michael boldly asked all and sundry to help him get an Equity card. Bill Kenwright kindly obliged. Again as directed by his father, Michael modelled his voice on the dulcet tones of the film star, Robert Donat, rather than continuing with his sprawling suburban drawl, originally from Bermondsey, modified in Orpington. Yvonne Mitchell acted as his acting coach. Anthony Quayle took on the role of professional mentor and pub lunch companion. Michael has worked with many of the most famous names in the business, including Richard Curtis, Ben Elton and Angus Deayton. Michael also has a number one novelty song to his credit for Spitting Image - the Chicken Song topped the charts in 1986! In the last two years Michael has created well over 200 "My Time-Capsule" podcasts, starting with Stephen Fry, no less! A former smoker, Michael is also just completing a one million step exercise to raise awareness of Type 2 Diabetes. Michael finds contentment sitting quietly beside the sea at Cooden Beach, throwing pebbles at a groyne. He has the rhyming skill of William McGonagall and the surreal humour of Man U star Eric Cantonar. In fact, Michael Fenton Stevens has a lot of wise words to say - and he says them all so beautifully. Please sit back and listen now. Thank you and enjoy!

There's discussion on how Benitez failed, the team's dismal on field performances and concerns about the financial situation which is likely to mean the stars that remain could leave in the summer. Could they be relegated this season? And who's best to step in to the managers position? Roberto Martinez, Wayne Rooney and Duncan Ferguson appear to be the front runners... In this MWOT Podcast episode I speak to the successful Paul Taylor-Mills, Artistic Director at Londons The Turbine Theatre in Battersea Power Station. Having read about Paul a few years ago, I loved the fact that he put everything including his own money on the line to get his shows running when he first started out. Now Paul is becoming one of the major Theatre Producers in London and his talent and passion shines through on our talk. Working with some of the biggest names out there like Andrew Lloyd Webber and having Bill Kenwright as a mentor its easy to see that combining those influences with Pauls hard work and desire means his career will only keep on progressing. Something I didn’t realise was that Paul was also a close friend of Caroline Flack and he talks about the importance and responsibility of Social Media that we all have, we need to remember to BE KIND! I really enjoyed this chat with Paul, he was down to earth about his journey and his energy and love of Theatre which left me feeling positive about the future of the performing arts after the epidemic. Episode 25 kicks off with the sad news of Liverpool legend Ian St John’s passing and the lads discuss the memories they have of him. The blues, Ian Mills and Gary Judge begin by discussing the news that the new stadium at Bramley Moore took a step closer this week with only the governments decision standing in the way of the building starting. The reds, Gary Murray and Phil Roberts, start the previews this week looking back at their 2-0 victory away to league strugglers Sheff Utd where they compare opinions on Curtis Jones, Bobby Firmino and Ozan Kabak. The blue side then look at their 1-0 home victory against Southampton where they agreed it was a much needed “ugly” win. They compare notes on Richarlison, the returning Allan and the continued form of Gylfi Sigurdsson. This week in history sees the reds fondly remember their 2-0 victory in the 2003 Worthington Cup Final against bitter rivals Man Utd whilst the blues look back at confirmation of Farhad Moshiri purchasing 49.9% of Bill Kenwright's shares back in 2016 and the impact Moshiri has had on the club since. The lads try out a new feature, “who am I?” for players from both side of the park before the previews of the upcoming games round off the show. Liverpool have home games against Chelsea on Thursday and Fulham on Sunday while Everton travel to former manager Sam Allardyce’s West Brom on Thursday before a trip to Stamford Bridge to play Chelsea on Monday Night.
It's time for more topical debate (with a few relevant tangents) from the Planet Porky custodians - Mike Parry and Lesley-Ann Jones. If only he'd hung out on Planet Porky, he would have completed the set. Follow the show on Twitter: @PlanetPorky or Mike is: @MikeParry8 while you can find Lesley-Ann: @LAJwriter. The Trio are joined by Everton Business Matters Founder and Host and Twitter masked man The Esk. Russian Kleptocracy via USM - Navaltny, Usmanov, Putin and the era of oligarchs. Paul discusses the incompetencies with the board, educating us on the pyramid of the football club and the benefits of how a solid structure at board level helps create direction. Do the fans still feel the club have No Plan? Diving into the January 2021 AGM (or propaganda) covering strategy, finances, community, interaction with fans and any other significant activities (on and off the field). What do Everton need to sell themselves as internationally to become a brand? Are Changes needed at board level? You'll also hear how since the arrival Five Years ago of Billionaire Iranian Farhad Moshiri how the lack of ambition and resource prior to his arrival has held the club back, and how even with Moshiri at the helm we aren't aggressive enough with Champions League ambitions, and the club is quickly going out of Fashion. Bill Kenwright isn't producing this play anymore but playing the Starman in his own production is failing to bring Everton any golden years in his tenure whilst he strives for his own Fame. Can Under Pressure shareholders bring a club together whilst stagnant corporate deals, strategy and player acquisition give us Little Wonder what will happen in the next decade at the club? An ideal board member mentioned is a hypothetical podcast worthy shout, and Paul doubles down on his vague brand of elusiveness, and loses his teeth before telling us off pod about his only music preference. On today's bumper edition of the Royal Blue podcast we discuss everything from commercial deals to selling Morgan Schneiderlin. Host Phil Kirkbride is joined by Dave Prentice, Sam Carroll and Gav Buckland to talk through the major talking points coming out of Goodison this week. We start by assessing the club's new shirt sponsorship deal with Cazoo and the merits of ending the agreement with SportPesa before moving onto the news that players, board members and other key staff have taken wage cuts and deferrals - plus a generous donation from fans that was matched by Farhad Moshiri and Bill Kenwright. Goodison was given the go-ahead to host next weekend's Merseyside derby and we talk about how players will deal with no fans inside the ground and how Everton can overcome the challenges of making the stadium bio-secure. Carlo Ancelotti's preparations for the game have been dealt a blow this week with the news that Theo Walcott has been ruled out and Andre Gomes and Fabian Delph are concerns. The panel discuss who should play on the right-wing and conclude the podcast by talking about the futures of Maarten Stekelenburg, Djibril Sidibe and Schneiderlin, who has been the subject of interest from Nice. Enjoy.
On this edition of Across The Park extra, Millsy and Judgy are joined via zoom by former WBC Cruiserweight Champion of the world and huge Evertonian, Tony Bellew. Tony has the lads in stitches with tales of growing up as a "rebellious" Evertonian, inspired by his older brother, to memories of the two infamous "great escapes" in 1994 and 1998. Tony also spoke about how he went from being a regular Evertonian, to training at Finch Farm, as part of a special relationship he developed with his beloved club. Tony tells us about the time he first met David Moyes, which almost led to him getting into a fight and how Moyes helped him meet Dave Billows, his fitness coach, who became a huge influence on his career. No punches are pulled in Tony’s opinion on how special David Moyes’ time was at the club, his relationship and love for Bill Kenwright and how he feels the inside of the club changed for the worse during a period of changing managers and personnel. We ask Tony about "that special night" at Goodison Park when he captured the WBC Cruiserweight title in dramatic fashion against Ilunga Makabu and just how much pressure he felt personally in fighting at the place he loved most. This is a fantastic insight into the real Anthony Bellew. His love for his family, Everton and appreciation of the opportunities he has had through boxing shine through with a side of typical "scouse humour". Tony is a shining example that dreams can come true but he is also humble and honest enough to concede that he has had his fair share of tough moments and this note, the three blues share their own recognition of the significance of mental health in modern society before signing off. For any Football or Boxing fans, this is a must listen.

When the designs arrived, they certainly didn't disappoint. So who better to talk about Everton's proposed new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock than the man who has designed it, architect Dan Meis. In this exclusive interview with our Blues correspondent Phil Kirkbride, Meis discusses his designs, capacity, costs, being the face of the project and his role in the future, the influence of Bill Kenwright, and why Everton are building a 'Ferrari and not a Bentley'. There's an unsurprising theme in this week's special midweek Royal Blue podcast. Everton completed the signing of Portuguese midfield maestro Andre Gomes late Tuesday and host Sam Carroll acted swiftly to pull together a crack team of pundits to discuss the transfer. The ECHO's Head of Sport Dave Prentice is joined by Everton reporter Adam Jones and Paul Wheelock as the guests wax lyrical about Gomes' potential at Goodison Park. As well as the bonus of securing a cut-price £22m deal for the 25-year-old, the importance of trusting Marco Silva, Marcel Brands and Bill Kenwright at the negotiating table is discussed, as well as who will be next through the doors at Finch Farm. Kurt Zouma's name crops up, naturally, while the future of Morgan Schneiderlin and several Everton misfits are all pondered. For information regarding your data privacy, visit acast.com/privacy
It's the second episode of The Alan Myers Everton Podcast - and, just like the first, it's a must-listen. Alan brings you three exclusive interviews. The first of which is a chat with the man who sat in the Goodison Park hotseat for 11 years before his departure to Manchester United, David Moyes. The Scot talks about why the Blues were the club for him, after previously turning down other Premier League jobs, how he turned the club from relegation candidates to Champions League and Europa League qualifiers, how he dealt with the massive spotlight on Wayne Rooney, his best signing, his relationship with Bill Kenwright, how his move to United came about, as well as his thoughts on the current Everton crop. Alan then speaks to David Unsworth, who famously scored the first goal of Moyes' reign, about what it was like to be a Blues player at that time. The pair also speak about Unsy's current role at Everton, as the highly successful manager of the club's under-23s team, but only after Alan calls France to speak to former Blues striker Mickaël Madar, who talks warmly of the late, great Howard Kendall. Enjoy. For information regarding your data privacy, visit acast.com/privacy
The former Academy graduate is preparing to face the Blues with Oldham Athletic this evening in the Checkatrade Trophy and sat down with the ECHO to reflect on his time at Goodison.Baxter, the youngest player to have represented the club, talks candidly about the lifeline Everton handed him in 2017 when he faced "some very dark moments" during a drugs ban.The 26-year-old spent last season with the Blues' under-23s in the hope of relaunching a career that lay in tatters and says he owes a debt of gratitude to Bill Kenwright and others who gave him a "third chance".Baxter also provides fascinating insight into playing under David Moyes, how a moment on his debut will haunt him forever and how close he came to playing in the 2009 FA Cup final. The Bootle born attacker reveals a "surreal" experience with Tim Cahill, the truth about the new contract he turned down in 2012 and how Joleon Lescott delivered a painful lesson in training.Baxter goes on to discuss Phil Neville, Leighton Baines, being a mentor to Everton's young players and much, much more.Sit back, relax and enjoy. In this episode Greg and Tony reflect on the news that Farhad Moshiri has consolidated his control of Everton by purchasing extra shares, plus chairman Bill Kenwright's comments about it and what it means for the Bramley Moore stadium project. The lads also talk about the injury crisis at Goodison and preview Sunday's Premier League game with West Ham.
It might be the international break, but Farhad Moshiri has given Everton fans a lot to discuss. It was announced on Tuesday afternoon that the Iranian billionaire had increased his stake in the club from 49.9% to 68.6% - with a view to further increasing his share to 77.2% by July 2019.Adam Jones is joined by Dave Prentice and Sam Carroll to discuss what this move means for Everton in the long run - including how it impacts the stadium and the future of chairman Bill Kenwright. Davy Klaassen has been told he's not going to be sold by Everton this summer - but does he realistically have a future at Goodison? The Royal Blue podcast team are back around the debating table after a night at The Dixies where Jordan Pickford was the big winner.Everton reporter Phil Kirkbride, Head of Sport Dave Prentice and Tony Scott all went home empty handed but returned with plenty to discuss.Pickford, double-award winner Wayne Rooney and Everton's Goal of the Season are all pored over, as are the comments from chairman Bill Kenwright who vowed that every one of the club's summer signings will still be Everton players next season.Klaassen has made just 14 appearances while Sandro Ramirez, out on loan at Sevilla, has only 15 under his belt yet the chairman is refusing to give up on them.Everton have not made the future of manager Sam Allardyce as clear, however, and his brief appearance on stage, his words, the isolated heckles and his media strategy are discussed on this episode. On Thursday 4 September, the Wyvern Theatre provided an audio described performance of Agatha Christie's Black Coffee. Following last year’s production of Agatha Christie’s Go Back For Murder, the Agatha Christie Theatre Company return to Swindon with a brand-new drama produced by Bill Kenwright. Black Coffee is the first play ever written by Agatha Christie and in it we are introduced to Hercule Poirot - the only fictional character ever to receive a full-page obituary in the New York Times. Bill Kenwright said: “The Wyvern Theatre in Swindon has a very special place in my heart. It was there over four decades ago, right at the start of its life, I produced my very first major musical. ‘West Side Story’ opened at the Wyvern and went on to have a successful life ending up at the Shaftesbury Theatre in the West End. So it’s my great pleasure to congratulate them on hearing that they are offering audio description and touch tours for their visually impaired patrons. After a long gap we have started visiting the Wyvern again with our productions, and it’s innovation like this that keeps us all happy.”

Sue Lawley's castaway this week is the theatre producer Bill Kenwright. His West End successes include Shirley Valentine, Medea and Stepping Out. A gambler at heart, he continued to run Blood Brothers on Broadway despite a panning by the New York critics and it became a huge box office hit. An actor himself - most famously as Gordon Glegg in Coronation Street - he started producing in the provinces. There he lured audiences into the theatre by putting TV stars such as Pat Phoenix on stage - although sometimes he had to remind them that she wasn't Elsie Tanner.[Taken from the original programme material for this archive edition of Desert Island Discs] Favourite track: Call To Arms (Everton FC and Z Cars Theme Tune) by Blueknowz Book: Everton - The Complete Record by Steve Johnson Luxury: Guitar"
