JOSHUA, FURY AND SPENCE TEST FATHER TIME

The Opening Bell

Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury and Errol Spence will all this weekend exhibit what is left of themselves. Even if it turns out to be very little, that should still be enough for Joshua and Fury to triumph against Kristian Prenga and Mariusz Wach respectively. If the point of those exercises is questionable then the task that awaits Spence is, by comparison, somewhat formidable. He takes on Tim Tszyu in Australia in a bout set at 160lbs. Will Spence show he still has what it takes at 36 or will he become the latest athlete to realise that time is the cruellest opponent of them all? Elsewhere, Ryan Garcia and Conor Benn reminded everyone how much noise they can make and how hard they can appear.  Thanks for listening and for your support, amigos.   Learn more about your ad choices. In this episode, Lukie and (Jason) Lagendorf talk about the return of Errol Spence Jr., who faces Tim Tszyu in Australia on pay-per-view. Three years ago, this would have been massive; now it just is what it is. A solid fight, but a lot of lingering “What ifs?” Does Spence still have it? (He hasn't fought since the Terence Crawford fight)Can Tszyu absorb punishment from a high-level fighter? The answers we don't know.An undercard bout with Jermall Charlo is now off, as he couldn't obtain a visa. Stephen Fulton's official lightweight debut against Liam Wilson will serve as the co-feature, with Australian talent rounding out the rest of the card. Then, we have two high-profile names back in action.Tyson Fury will fight Mariusz Wach in Thailand. As of now, I don't think they have announced how to watch it. Also, on pay-per-view, Anthony Joshua is facing Kristian Prenga. Is it safe to say Joshua is in the unserious part of his career? The pay-per-view card is shockingly thin. WBO super middleweight champ Hamzah Sheeraz will face Simon Zachenhuber. Zachenhuber lost to Pawel August on the previous Fury fight card, but August is buried on the undercard facing Jacob Bank, the man who stopped William Scull. Make it make sense. IBF welterweight champ Josh Kelly returns against Caoimhin Agyarko, which is a good fight, and Ukrainian Olympic gold medalist Oleksandr Khyzhniak will fight. He is more Serhii Bohachuk than he is Lomachenko. Nishant Dev is always a nice treat to see on a card as well. Also, on Sunday at Zuffa Boxing, Edgar Berlanga will make his promotional debut against Steven Butler. Richardson Hitchins will face Ricardo Salas, not an easy debut, and middleweight Sergiy Derevyanchenko will open the main telecast against Jalil Hackett. The undercard is solid with Otto Wallin facing Vladyslav Sirenko, and the promotional debut of Dominique Francis. A good 50-50 fight between Arnold Gonzalez and Emiliano Moreno, and as always, featherweight Troy Nash Jr is must-see TV as he faces unbeaten Ethan Perez. This week, we saw Diego Pacheco stop Immanuwel Aleem. Now, we ask more questions… For my mailbag, I was asked if Pacheco looked different than when he fought Trevor McCumby. Lazily, I will ask Dakota. Buddy McGirt now trains Pacheco; did we see a difference? People seem divided on Pacheco – can we make sense of it all? Also on the undercard, Andy Cruz stopped Abraham Montoya in three rounds and appears headed to the junior lightweight division. Featherweight Albert Gonzalez stopped Aaron Alameda in two rounds. WOW! Also, Bruno Rios and Saul Sanchez had a classic that might get forgotten. You can visit The Good Fight here: http://TheGoodFight12.Substack.comTimestamps0:00 intro and thoughts on The Good Fight11:15 Too many pay-per-views ( Joshua and Spence vs. Tszyu)17:35 Spence vs. Tszyu30:32 Joshua and Tyson Fury fight previews37:24 Why I am mad for Pawel August 46:40 Thoughts on Diego Pacheco59:50 Bruno Rios vs. Saul Sanchez 01:03:50 Zuffa Boxing thoughts01:20:08 Andy Ruiz releases a rap song

Oleksandr Usyk looks set to fight Deontay Wilder, potentially under the Zuffa umbrella, in a bout that could signal the end of the current heavyweight era. But not before we get Tyson Fury vs Mariusz Wach. Whether marking time or just wasting it, Fury's decision to fight a shot 46-year-old is curious. The good times seem to be just beginning for Abdullah Mason who rebounded from a slow start to stop Albert Bell in the 12th and final round. In a week when Ryan Garner scored a glorious victory in a stadium, Moses Itauma signed for his biggest test, and Boots Ennis is preparing for Xander Zayas, the biggest story is the one we know the least about: Anthony Joshua v Tyson Fury. After much squabbling between various promoters about who is in control, when it will take place, and where it will be staged, Turki Alalshikh announced to the world that he is the one calling the shots. But what does the sport look like without Alalshikh in it; a very real possibility considering the recent reports about his health. Meanwhile, everyone's ‘next heavyweight champion' Itauma faced off with Filip Hrgovic to find someone completely unwilling to read the script. Will Hrgovic toe the line when they meet on August 29? Alex and Matt reflect on Garner's thrilling triumph inside Southampton's St Mary's Stadium, we look ahead to Ennis-Zayas, but arguably save the best for last… This Week is anchored in 1999 and a time when Johnny Tapia was taken by the biggest of surprises by Paulie Ayala. It's notoriously difficult to get removed from a no-entry or travel prohibition list. In Tyson Fury's case, how he's managed to do so remains unclear. Whether additional concessions were required is anyone's guess. What does seem possible is that he may have had to cooperate with certain interests along the way, and perhaps that's simply how the world works. If there's one sport that prepares you for the murky realities of politics, it's boxing. The sport has always been filled with backroom deals, conflicting agendas, and missed opportunities. The reality is that an Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury fight now seems increasingly unlikely. Not only has the chance to create a truly global event slipped away, but public interest has faded as well. Anthony Joshua doesn't appear as invested in boxing as he once was, and Fury hardly seems fully committed either. Both men often seem more focused on building their brands than delivering the fight fans have wanted for years. As boxing fans, we're left with a familiar feeling: watching the biggest fights fail to materialize until they're well past their prime, only to be asked to pay premium prices for what remains. A contest that could have defined an era now risks becoming just another example of boxing's talent for squandering its biggest opportunities.

Join Santiago Zuluaga alongside Steve Smith and Nicholas Marinelli to discuss the Freedom 250 UFC card, Tyson Fury, Conor McGregor vs Max Holloway, Kape vs Horiguchi.

The MMA Vivisection Shows: 'Main Card Preview' & 'Prelims Card Preview'

UFC Freedom 250 was every bit the spectacle it was made out to be. It had everything from fireworks to Tyson Fury getting his own special walkout. Why, you ask—who knows, but it was a thing that happened. All the brass showed up including Hunter Campbell, Nick Khan and Ari Emanuel. The crowd on the Ellipse was massive, and the crowd sitting cageside consisted of military members and first responders decked out in their uniforms. The orchestra sounded amazing and the music was as all-American as apple pie. Even when this very MAGA outfit played YMCA—one of the most recognizable gay anthems ever. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say they think they've claimed it for themselves. The card opened with Diego Lopes absolutely destroying Steve Garcia. The first round was a bit tentative, but the second was where all the action went down. Lopes would stop Garcia with a barrage of punches that put his lights out. That was followed by Bo Nickal stopping Kyle Daukaus in the first with a nice TKO.Michael Chandler never stood a chance against Maurio Ruffy. Ruffy was patient as Chandler evaded him, taking forever to get close enough to engage, but when it finally happened, Ruffy punished him with spinning head kicks and hammering punches. Finally, mercifully, Mauricio finished him off toward the end of the round via TKO. Michael Chandler is truly washed.Josh Hokit might be a gross character with absolutely no vocal talent, but he had the exact recipe to dispatch Derrick Lewis. He punished Lewis on the feet, who was completely exhausted before the first round was over. Hokit would finish him in the second via TKO, likely increasing his UFC stock in the process.Sean O'Malley was dominant with his striking all the way through his fight with Aiemann Zahabi. Zahabi used a leg kick assault, that wasn't as effective as he'd hoped. Sean found his moment with a big left, followed it up with a giant right then saluted the crowd as Zahabi fell back. The Petr Yan callout happened, as expected, and you have to believe that fight will happen sometime this year.Cyril Gane took some hard low kicks and one or two big punches over the course of the first round against Poatan. The second round, however, was an entirely different story, as he tuned up Alex Pereira, mauling him with big strikes, knocking him down and raining ground and pound like a man possessed. Herb dean would let it go on though, and over the course of the next 45 seconds, Gane beat Alex as if he stole his lunch money on the playground. The end was inevitable and it came via TKO. Poatan is a 205er.Justin Gaethje was a huge underdog going in, so it is a fitting end that he walks away tonight with the undisputed belt. The fight was back and forth, with Topuria almost finishing Justin in the second, and Gaethje wrecking Ilia in the third. Topuria's face was a red mask of destruction. The doctor's came in before the fourth, almost stopping the fight but Marc Goddard had the physicians reassess and they let it move forward. Topuria fought a good fourth round, but his team threw in the towel before the fifth and Justin Gaethje was crowned the new lightweight king. Now that we've reviewed the highlights, let's check out the results and bonuses while we're here.MMA Vivisection & 6th Round is a reader-supported publication. RUNDOWN   Mitch and Hotshot Scott open Episode 383 by marveling at the bizarre obsession surrounding the NFL schedule release, questioning why fans and media treat dates and kickoff times like breaking world events. And then, they break down the Seahawks' newly released schedule, from the bizarre Rams clustering and overloaded prime time slate to the brutal late-season stretch loaded with short weeks and playoff-caliber opponents. The conversation turns into a bigger NFC West discussion, with Mitch quietly predicting San Francisco wins the division while Seattle lands at 11–6 and grabs a wild card spot. Mitch, Brady, and Joe dissect a Mariners club that suddenly looks lifeless after another ugly series loss to San Diego, with injuries piling up and the offense disappearing again. The conversation centers on whether Colt Emerson's promotion can inject energy into a flat clubhouse, why Seattle's veteran-heavy roster may lack emotional spark, and whether the AL West being mediocre is the only thing keeping the season afloat right now. Mitch and Puck bounce from petty website slights and Tiger Woods speculation into a spirited debate over Cal Raleigh playing hurt and the Mariners' late-game strategy. The real fireworks come when Mitch unveils his theory that the NFL intentionally put Mike Vrabel and the Patriots in a primetime opener against Seattle.   GUESTS   Brady Farkas | Host, Refuse to Lose podcast Joe Doyle | MLB analyst, Over-Slot Jason Puckett | KJ-Aren'ts / Puck Drop   TABLE OF CONTENTS   0:00 | Why NFL Schedule Release Day Feels Like a National Holiday, Mariners Frustration, and the Show's Weekly Birthday and Music Trivia Segment 14:09 | NFL Drops Seahawks Schedule — Brutal Stretches, Prime Time Chaos & Niners Fear 31:57 | Mariners No-Table: Brady Farkas and Joe Doyle — Mariners analysts breaking down Seattle's mounting injuries, clubhouse energy issues, and the debut of top prospect Colt Emerson. 56:05 | KJ-Aren't's Jason Puckett: Mitch Thinks the NFL Just Punished Mike Vrabel on National TV 1:13:55 | Other Stuff Segment: Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano disappointment, Tyson Fury's teenage daughter getting married, PGA Championship winner Aaron Rai and his iron covers story, Shohei Ohtani's historic two-way dominance, Kyle Schwarber's absurd home run pace, Tiger Woods returning from Swiss rehab, Mitch's Palm Beach airport stories, Carl Pavano divorce allegations, Desmond Mason arrest and memorabilia dispute, fake Caitlin Clark engagement rumors, Perry Como vs. Sinatra debate, Dr. Hook memories HEADLINES 14-year-old steals a bus for the third time in six months, hantavirus allegedly linked to penis shrinkage, Maine students accidentally fed dirt at school, suckerfish swimming inside manta rays causing "issues" RIPs Brandon Clark, Jason Collins, Charlie Young, Craig Morton, Lou Graham, Jim Colbert, Rex Reed, Donald Gibb, Dennis Locorriere
