Grown-up Disney nerds Lindsay and Laurence spend a lot of time in Disney theme parks, and almost as much time trying to explain that they're not just for kids. So they're making a podcast about doing the Disney parks as fully fledged, shameless adults. Expect chat, news, hot tips, secrets, fan theor…
Laurence Owen and Lindsay Sharman
In this period of uncertainty and gloom, Lindsay and Laurence have decided to draw upon their many theme park trips and rate their top ten Disney park moments. How many of their choices will you have experienced? What made these particular moments so magical? Listen to find out! Also - send your favourite Disney park moments (as obscure, personal and specific as you like) to adultsdodisney@gmail.com
Laurence & Lindsay were gifted a box of Disney trivia questions, so they decide to test their knowledge in a fierce battle. The penalties for wrong answers are either a shot of their choice, or bite of carrot dipped in Psycho Juice hot sauce. Will L&L be blind drunk and stripped of their stomach linings by the end? Listen to find out! Special guest appearances from Bob Iger and the Abominable Snowman (not a band, but should be).
Spoilers aplenty in this episode, so ye be warned! Laurence & Lindsay go and see Frozen 2 with a few predictions about what will happen. How many of them will turn out to be true? Listen to find out! An analysis of Anna and Elsa's latest adventure, looking at plot, character development, music and overall themes, and how they relate to the slightly terrifying times we live in.
For a belated Halloween episode, Laurence & Lindsay watched Disney's 1997 TV movie The Tower Of Terror... so you don't have to! It's Disney's first ever movie based on one of its rides - and a bit of a slog, to be honest. However, there's still a lot of enjoyment to be found in the shonky script and story, as well as Disney's hilariously shameless use of one of its theme park attractions as a movie set. We won't make you sit through the whole thing with us, so here's a 45-minute highlight reel. As always, a high number of silly voices contained within.
Normal service will resume soon, but here's a quick introduction to Laurence & Lindsay's new podcast! Mockery Manor: a narrative drama series in which a young woman becomes entangled in the sinister workings of an eerie British theme park in 1989. Disney fans should recognise plenty of references, in-jokes and things to enjoy in L&L's mystery-thriller. You are the target audience! Subscribe to Mockery Manor on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, or wherever you get your podcasts.
The next instalment in L&L's audio commentary adventures. This time, they delve deeply into one of Laurence's childhood favourites, the overlooked and underrated 1986 Disney classic The Great Mouse Detective. Lots of facts, lots of factually questionable waffle, and a frankly staggering number of Vincent Price impressions. Consider yourself warned.
Laurence & Lindsay ran a poll on Twitter asking "which less-celebrated Disney movie shall we provide a DVD-style audio commentary for?" The Twittersphere voted for Hunchback. So, here's L&L's analysis, in real time, of Disney's darkest animated classic.
L&L have mostly steered clear of discussing Disney's "live action" remakes, but they were so surprised by how much they enjoyed 2019's The Lion King that they had to sit down and truly work out why. What makes some of these movies brilliant and some appalling? What is Disney trying to achieve? Can some remakes actually surpass the originals? All this and more in a long discussion that actually ends in a fairly neat conclusion. They were just as surprised by that.
Lindsay & Laurence spend their final Florida day playing the interactive game Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom, and soaking up the atmosphere before wrapping up their trip. Also on this episode: a whole load of Star Wars discussion and breaking news - including chat about Galaxy's Edge and speculation on the just-released trailer for Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker. What does it all mean!? Finally, L&L read some of their favourite emails from you, the listeners!
Laurence & Lindsay are in Hollywood Studios, a park in a state of flux, and brimming with anticipation of its imminent groundbreaking addition, Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. L&L sniff around for clues about this game-changing new land, soak up the atmosphere of the brand new Toy Story Land, meet BB-8, ride classic attractions like The Tower of Terror, Star Tours, and the Rock'n'Roller Coaster, and more.
In this short episode, L&L head back over to Animal Kingdom with that most precious of Fastpasses - Avatar: Flight Of Passage. After a lot of buildup, L&L finally get to experience Walt Disney World's hottest ticket, and share their thoughts on this very stunning attraction. Plus - a surprising insight into Goofy's sex life.
Laurence & Lindsay are back in Epcot and ready to look at it in more detail. This episode features a deep dive into the checkered past of Journey Into Imagination, a ride on the excellent Frozen Ever After, L&L's new appreciation for The Gran Fiesta Tour, and their memorable encounter with a couple enduring the devastating effects of the Epcot "Drinking Round The World" challenge.
Lindsay resists her strong aversion to water parks and allows Laurence to drag her to Blizzard Beach. But if anyone can change her mind about water parks, it's Disney. Find out L&L's reactions to the Slush Gusher, Teamboat Springs, Runoff Rapids and the terrifying Summit Plummet, as well as pitting the experience against the more Typhoon Lagoon. Who will win?
Uh-oh! Laurence & Lindsay are in "The Other Park", as the Disney cast members call it. Universal Orlando has some of the world's most outstanding rides, and an altogether different feel to Walt Disney World. L&L take in some of the park's biggest thrills - Skull Island: Reign Of Kong, The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, and more - and then enter a deep discussion about what Disney and Universal can learn from each other.
L&L take a stroll around the recently re-themed and refurbished Disney Springs, a wander down the Boardwalk (stopping to say hello to the creepiest chairs in Florida), before ambling into Epcot to ride Living With The Land and listen in dumbfoundment to the most dated music loop in any Disney park. Much more from the weird old place that is Epcot coming up in part 2!
Part 2 of Laurence & Lindsay's Feb 2019 trip to Florida. This time, they're walking around Magic Kingdom with no agenda other than to enjoy themselves. Take a ride on the Haunted Mansion, Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean and more, plus discussions about the future of the resort. Also: Lindsay clarifies her position on matching Disney outfits.
Laurence & Lindsay have landed in Florida and are ready to rant and ramble around Walt Disney World! The first in a series of on-the-ground episodes from the Sunshine State sees L&L taking you on a walk around Animal Kingdom, with analysis of Pandora: The World Of Avatar, Kevin the bird, Expedition Everest, Dinosaur, It's Tough To Be A Bug, plus a review of Tiffins restaurant and an impassioned argument that Michael Eisner is a good guy, goddammit.
Lindsay & Laurence attempt to achieve enlightenment using principles and life lessons gleaned from the experience of going to a Disney park. What wisdom can we learn from imagineering, and what more could be added to the Disney experience to make it even more transcendental? Also - L&L are heading back to Florida in February 2019, and want to hear what you'd like them to pay attention to!
It's the second instalment of L&L's Shanghai Disneyland wander! In this episode: the most beautiful Tomorrowland of all, Barbossa's Bounty restaurant, the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Soaring Over The Horizon - plus lots of sounds and screams of joy.
Laurence & Lindsay are thrilled to bring you the first of two podcasts recorded on the ground at the magnificent Shanghai Disneyland! This is a seriously impressive park, and perhaps their new favourite. It's immersive, rich with unique attractions and theming, and perhaps a little less saccharine than other Magic Kingdom-type Disney parks. Also included: a quick look at Ocean Park, Hong Kong.
The first of Laurence & Lindsay's China trip podcasts... it's Hong Kong Disneyland! As they report from onsite, with glorious swirling Disney sounds around them, find out what they make of China's first Disney park. Unique rides, theming, atmosphere, food, hotels, Halloween overlays and more.
SPOILER ALERT! Lindsay & Laurence dissect Incredibles 2, arguably the most adult film that Pixar has released to date, in a very spoiler-heavy review. Disney is continuing to produce super relevant movies that reflect today's debates and issues, while sticking it to dudebros of the world. Good! The personal is the political! So what does the future hold for Pixar?
In Part 2, Laurence interviews creature effects hair specialist Maria Cork, the woman responsible for building and maintaining Chewbacca! Maria has worked on all of the new Star Wars movies, and has incredible stories to tell - from the thrill of styling Yoda's hair on night shoots with Frank Oz, to the unglamourous phenomenon known as "wookiee butt" (a phrase coined by Peter Mayhew himself). She also talks about her work on other films, including the suit of feathers she made for a real live horse on the set of Maleficent.
The first of a 2-part special, in which Laurence & Lindsay sit down with Mason Ball - Star Wars actor and creature performer. Mason played Praster Ommlen in The Force Awakens, and Sosear Latta in The Last Jedi, and tells fascinating stories about what it's like to be inside an animatronic creature, working under JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson, and the pivotal moment he truly realised he was in a Star Wars film.
Laurence & Lindsay are going to Hong Kong and Shanghai, and they're planning all the ins and outs of their trip. Episode 24 features comparisons between China's two very different Disneylands, their unique attractions, cultural differences, practicalities such as visas, hotel bookings and accommodation, as well as (of course) large helpings of incoherent Disney rambling.
Laurence & Lindsay dissect (without any spoilers) the pretty extraordinary Avengers: Infinity War, as well as chatting about Disney-bounding and Dapper Days in the parks. It's also their anniversary, so they've bought each other some curious 3rd-party Disney themed gifts...
Laurence & Lindsay are joined by very special guest, Disney CEO Bob Iger! He's in a terrible mood. The tired old unbranded Walt Disney classic attractions aren't yielding enough merch dollars, but since they're historically significant, Bob can't replace them. L&L offer a solution: reverse-engineer them into movies, Pirates-style! Even if they're totally unsuitable! Perhaps the most tortured 45 minutes of Armchair Imagineering in the history of Adults Do Disney.
They're back! Lindsay & Laurence take a look at the huge expansion of Disneyland Paris's second park, Walt Disney Studios, as well as presenting their own radical redesign of Paris's Disney Village, in a new segment they have dubbed "Armchair Imagineering". Also: The Void's Star Wars VR experience, controversial Disney news, and a whole lot of Lego discussion.
Laurence & Lindsay are taking a few weeks off before coming back with a new full episode on December 12th. In the meantime, they'd like to share with you this Disney-themed song, which they wrote together for an Edinburgh Fringe comedy show in 2015.
It’s part two of Laurence & Lindsay’s recent adventure in Disneyland Paris! Come with them on another sonic walk through the parks, beginning in the Walt Disney Studios. Hear the screams of the Tower Of Terror, the exciting rumbling of Big Thunder Mountain, as well as Disney parks trivia, hot tips and backseat imagineering galore. Get lost in the wash of sounds and music, and feel as though you’re really there!
Lindsay & Laurence are in Disneyland Paris! Take a walk through the parks with them as they check out the new ride refurbishments for the 25th anniversary, Halloween and Christmas decorations, November 5th firework displays, hotels, restaurants and bars. Come on a sonic journey peppered with Disney facts and mucking about, and feel like you're really there in the first of two special walkabout episodes.
It's a spooooky Halloween special - just in time to be irrelevant in 24 hours! Not really. You can listen to this whenever you like. Laurence & Lindsay look at each Disney park's approach to Halloween, both past and present, and suggest some radical ideas for future Halloween attractions that don't involve Goofy dressed as a skeleton.
Whoa! What's that? Are Lindsay & Laurence NOT talking about Disney? Sort of. This week's installment sees them compare Walt Disney World with its biggest and brightest neighbour, Universal Studios Florida. How do their philosophies, themes and experiences differ? What can you get in one that you can't get in the other? Should you do both? Definitely!
This week, Lindsay & Laurence share tips, tricks and hacks for how to do Orlando on the cheap (covering Disney resorts, third party hotels and villas, cheap eats, transport options, souvenirs and more), with different money-saving suggestions for a loved-up couple, a tight little group of four, and a big ol' party bus of people.
Lindsay & Laurence have had more (probably unwelcome) ideas! Continuing the theme from last week, they pitch their ideas for a Fantasyland movie, froth with excitement about the potential of Wreck-It Ralph 2, consider how bafflingly odd the upcoming Jungle Cruise film might be, and share their thoughts on the 2015 film adaptation of Tomorrowland... only two years late.
Since the very beginning, Disney has used its own films as inspiration for some of its most popular and brilliant rides. But the list of Disney rides that have since become films is short. If Pirates Of The Caribbean can do it, why not Big Thunder Mountain? Or Expedition Everest? Or even the Enchanted Tiki Room? Lindsay & Laurence are here to investigate.
Lindsay & Laurence bring you more Disney parks news stories that have particularly caught their attention, including the accidental premature reveal of Hollywood Studios' Grand Avenue, the terrifying Halloween experiences at Hong Kong Disneyland, and the changes afoot in Disneyland Paris. Also, they chat to The Smoking Lamb Movie Podcast's Josh Morris about his experience of weathering Hurricane Irma in Walt Disney World.
Good eatin' is a vital part of any Disney vacation, and there are hundreds of options available to you at the parks and hotels. This week, Lindsay & Laurence plug some of their favourite atmospheric and magical Disney eateries, and come to some controversial conclusions about the three different dining plans...
When you walk into a Disney park, you're bombarded with music, which you'd think would be maddening. But somehow, it's not. Disney is very good at using music effectively - sometimes you don't even notice it. Lindsay & Laurence list their Top 5 bits of brilliant musical theming from the Disney parks, and come up with a few more (probably unwelcome) suggestions for the Imagineers.
With all the news pouring out of the Disney Parks at the moment, Lindsay & Laurence round up a few hot-off-the-press items that have particularly caught their attention. Topics include the future of Disney's Hollywood Studios, Epcot's ongoing identity crisis, Disney's charity work and whether boys can be princesses too. (Spoiler: yes.)
In this episode, Lindsay & Laurence have stolen a couple of Imagineers' hats. They're bound to notice soon, so L&L had better hurry up and design their fantasy Disney park before it's too late. Expect such gems as the Hallucinogenic Dumbo Champagne Bar, The Aristocats Jazz Cat Cafe, and the Straight-To-Video Boat Ride.
Amazing news! Laurence & Lindsay have just won $4,000,000 in the lottery! What to spend it on? How about the most lavish, decadent 24 hours that it's possible to have in Walt Disney World? Sounds good. Will they manage to blow all their cash in one day? Listen to find out!
Disney parks are ever-changing beasts, and as we've seen recently, no attraction is safe from shock closure. Disney's Hollywood Studios is pretty much a building site as those mischievous Imagineers appear to have implemented a one-in, one-out policy on attractions. So this week, Lindsay & Laurence look at a few classic Disney experiences that will likely never be seen again!
*CONTROVERSIAL OPINION KLAXON* - Lindsay and Laurence have never liked Epcot. It's confused, outdated and - dare we say it - pretty dull in places. In Episode 5, L&L discuss the changes coming to the park for its 40th anniversary, and what they would like to see happen to help Epcot get through its identity crisis.
It's awards season on the ADD podcast! Lindsay & Laurence compare and contrast some favourite Disney attractions via such award categories as "Best Patriotic Bombast", "Most Vomit-Inducing" and "Most Incongruous Celebrity Endorsement". Who will win? Listen to find out!
Lindsay and Laurence had an official Disney Fairy Tale Wedding in Florida in 2015. In Episode 3, they discuss the different packages and options available to Disney lovebirds, and reveal some details about the Fairy Tale Weddings that Mouse HQ doesn't tell you about.
In Episode 2, Lindsay and Laurence discuss the different accommodation options around the Orlando and Paris Disney parks for folks without children in tow.
In Episode 1, Lindsay and Laurence explain why they're tired of justifying their love of Disney parks to other people, and talk about why the parks are actually better suited to adults than children... Controversial?? Maybe!
