What three unexpected characters show up inside of Seven Dwarfs Mine Train? In this episode of Distory, we hop aboard Seven Dwarfs Mine Train in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World to ride through Disney's newest Snow White attraction. On our way, we spot some recycled pieces from an old ride we've seen before, hear about how Dopey got his ear wiggle, get mad about sticking tommies, and discover all the ways the Imagineers integrated pieces of the classic 1937 animated film into this attraction. Kirk gets shocked by a hidden Mickey he didn't know about, Kate discusses Joe Grant's inspiration for the Witch, and we spend a little time in the cottage finding turtles, candlesticks, and a pair of hands that are MUCH too large for our comfort. WDW's new fantasyland was not planned to look like the one we have today. In this episode of Distory, we visit the dilapidated Fantasyland of the Magic Kingdom of the late 90s and early 2000s to watch how Imagineering's major overhaul of this land evolved over time. Along the way, we find some lost concepts of major areas that were scrapped, including a Cinderella attraction that is not *quite* like the one Kate wishes Disney would create. As we finally arrive at the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train concept, we dive into the construction process. Kate walks us through the evolution of the ride vehicles in development, including their fascinating hand-painting process. Kirk discusses the construction on a larger scale, walking us through the assembly of this E-ticket attraction. We also both share some of our other Disney projects and wax nostalgic about the first time we met each other IRL (in real life). Tour 101 Comparing WDW's Magic Kingdom to Disneyland

Disney Conversations

Hello Tourists! On this adventure of Disney Conversations, we take a look at the differences and similarities of Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom as compared to Walt's original park Disneyland! For this discussion, Magical Matthew is joined by Tour Guides Janette Pellegrini and Mindy Muir! If you are planning a trip to one of these parks, and you have never been, we hope you find this information useful. Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom and Disneyland Park in Anaheim are two of the most popular theme parks in the world. While they share some similarities, they also have some significant differences. Here are some key comparisons between the two: 1.    Size and Layout: Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom is significantly larger than Disneyland Park in terms of overall size and number of attractions. The Magic Kingdom covers an area of 107 acres and has 47 rides and attractions. Disneyland Park, on the other hand, covers only 85 acres and has 40 attractions. The layout of the two parks is also different, with the Magic Kingdom arranged in a circular pattern around the iconic Cinderella Castle, while Disneyland Park is more linear in design, with its entrance on one end and Sleeping Beauty Castle on the other. 2.    Unique Attractions: While both parks share some attractions, such as Pirates of the Caribbean and It's a Small World, there are also many unique attractions to each park. Magic Kingdom has several attractions not found at Disneyland, including the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train roller coaster, the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover, and the classic Carousel of Progress. Meanwhile, Disneyland Park has its own exclusive attractions, such as the Indiana Jones Adventure, the Matterhorn Bobsleds, and the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage. 3.    Dining Options: Both parks offer a variety of dining options, ranging from quick-service snack stands to sit-down restaurants. However, Disneyland Park has a slightly larger variety of dining options, with unique restaurants such as the Blue Bayou, located inside the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, and the Cafe Orleans, which serves New Orleans-inspired cuisine. 4.    Atmosphere: The overall atmosphere of each park is also different. Magic Kingdom has a more grand, regal feel with its ornate castle and spacious Main Street, USA. Disneyland Park, on the other hand, has a more whimsical and nostalgic feel, with attractions like the original It's a Small World and classic characters such as Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/matthew-wallace9/message

Rob't Coltrin became a Disney Legend in 2020 (inducted at the D23 Expo 2022 ceremony) after spending 30 years at Walt Disney Imagineering. As a show set designer, concept artist, art director, and creative executive, Rob't became a go-to artist at Walt Disney Imagineering for concept work, storytelling, and ride layouts. Rob't is famous for helping design such noteworthy attractions as Expedition Everest, Toy Story Mania, Radiator Springs Racers, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Enchanted Tales of Beauty and the Beast, Mystic Manor, Mickey's Philharmagic, Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway, and the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (to name just a few). His likeness can also be found as a Disney S.E.A. character (Prof. R. Blauerhimmel, which fittingly translates to "Blue Sky"). Though the coaster is relatively tame, it debuted several new technologies and features that make it completely unique from any other coaster in the country. Reopening DATE Announced for Boma at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge and reopening as a buffet Boma — Flavors of Africa is located at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge — Jambo House, and guests will soon be able to enjoy a meal here once again! According to Disney, Boma will reopen this Friday, August 20th! Reservations for the restaurant open on August 18th. It will also reopen as a buffet, making it the first buffet at Walt Disney World to return after the shutdown. Walt Disney World Removing Face Mask Requirements for Outdoor Rides, Queues, and Attractions Beginning Thursday, August 19, face coverings will also be optional for Guests in outdoor attractions, outdoor queues, and outdoor theaters at Walt Disney World Resort. As a reminder, face coverings remain required for all Guests (ages 2 and up) while indoors and in Disney buses, monorail, and Disney Skyliner, regardless of vaccination status. Disney Genie Service to Reimagine the Guest Experience at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort We're almost ready to let Disney Genie out of the lamp! Coming this fall to Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort, Disney Genie is a complimentary and convenient new digital service designed to create your best Disney day. We've been listening to your feedback – you want planning to be easier, you want more flexibility and you want better tools to help you make the most of your visit – and that's exactly what Disney Genie is here to do. We've made significant investments in this cool new technology, which guides you through our theme parks with tips that can help you reduce time in lines, discover magic around every corner, and take the guesswork out of “what's next.” Built right into the My Disney Experience and Disneyland apps, the Disney Genie service will maximize your park time, so you can have more fun. It includes a personalized itinerary feature that will quickly and seamlessly map out an entire day. From specific attractions, foodie experiences and entertainment, to general interests like Disney princesses, villains, Pixar, Star Wars, thrill rides, and more – just tell Disney Genie what you want to do and it will do the planning for you. Here are a few more features: Get Itinerary Updates from Morning to Night: Disney Genie will continue to update your itinerary throughout your day, so you can be more spontaneous and go with the flow. Find Your Favorites at a Glance: Create your very own personal tip board to instantly see your favorites. It will display current AND forecasted future wait times, helping you predict when you might experience quicker entry to attractions. Enjoy More Flexibility and Fun: Disney Genie brings existing planning features together in one place. Join a virtual queue at certain attractions, make dining and experience reservations, mobile order food at many locations, get help from a virtual assistant, and more. For even more convenience and flexibility, there are two other options for enjoying our theme parks, through a queue we are introducing called the Lightning Lane entrance that also saves you time in line: Disney Genie+ service (available for purchase): For the price of $15 per ticket per day at Walt Disney World Resort and $20 per ticket per day at Disneyland Resort, choose the next available time to arrive at a variety of attractions and experiences using the Lightning Lane entrance. Throughout the day, you can make one selection at a time, from classics like Haunted Mansion to thrill rides like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and newer favorites like Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run (attractions subject to limited availability). This convenient option is the next evolution of the fan-favorite Disney MaxPass service from Disneyland Resort. Disney Genie+ will also include Disney parks-themed audio experiences and photo features to capture your memories – augmented reality lenses for those visiting Walt Disney World Resort and unlimited Disney PhotoPass downloads from your day if you are visiting Disneyland Resort. Individual attraction selections (available for purchase): Schedule a time to arrive at up to two highly demanded attractions each day using the Lightning Lane entrance – like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Magic Kingdom Park and Radiator Springs Racers at Disney California Adventure park (subject to limited availability; attractions not included with Disney Genie+). Pricing for this option will vary by date, attraction, and park and will be announced closer to launch. Lightning Lane selections will be made on the same day of your visit and can be used across multiple theme parks, great for those who love the Park Hopper option. Attractions continue to offer a traditional standby queue, or a virtual queue at certain attractions like Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance – to maximize flexibility. While the FASTPASS, FastPass+, and Disney MaxPass services will be retired, we're incredibly excited about the flexibility and choices the Disney Genie service provides. You can choose from all of our new options, a mix of them or none at all, and continue to have a great experience no matter how you decide to plan your best Disney day. We are also making some enhancements to our Disability Access Service (DAS) program, including new options to enroll in the program pre-arrival and for DAS participants to select attractions directly in the app. These options will be available in addition to our existing, in-person DAS program. Visit our Services for Guests with Disabilities page DisneyWorld.com and Disneyland.com for more details.
