THE FORCE AWAKENS approaches it's 10TH ANNIVERSARY! It's crazy to think it's been a decade since the first Sequel Trilogy film kick-started this new era of Star Wars. Today however, we begin our episode by talking about another anniversary of the film that began STAR WARS! STAR WARS (1977), or as it's known now A New Hope, celebrates it's 50TH ANNIVERSARY! To celebrate this gargantuan birthday, Lucasfilm has announced it will re-release the THEATRICAL CUT of the film! Since George Lucas released the Special Editions, a restored theatrical cut has been elusive. Today we discuss the expectation and excitement of experiencing this film how it originally was screened!Additionally, 2026 sees the release a of next Star Wars film since the Skywalker Saga wrapped up in 2019: THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU. While we don't have too much information about what happens in this film, a new (alleged) plot leak gives us some information to speculate on. Join us as we look forward to celebrate both the past AND future of STAR WARS!• • •TRIAD Of The FORCE is a STAR WARS+ podcast hosted by Gus, Nani, & Chase—Puerto Rican and queer creators sharing deep dives, and heartfelt conversations from a galaxy far, far away. What do you think of his motivations, inner conflict, and emotional instability versus Vader's stoicism? Question 2: Those of us that grew up with the Original Trilogy wanted to see a Luke, Han, and Leia reunion somewhere in The Force Awakens. How do you think they could have worked this in while still telling the story of the new characters? Question 3: Which background character from The Force Awakens would you like to see their own standalone project (Novel, Comic, Animated series, or Movie)? Question 4: If we pretend it's 2015 again and we've only seen The Force Awakens, how would you rank the new characters based purely on their potential from that movie alone? Characters to Rank: 1. By 2016, the Star Wars galaxy was splintered. Disney had bought the keys to the kingdom, and The Force Awakens had opened the floodgates of nostalgia; fans were debating whether the magic still remained. Enter Rogue One, a gritty, grounded war film that not only connected the dots between trilogies but also reminded us what sacrifice actually looks like in a galaxy far, far away. Our Rogue One (2016) Review could be our boldest Star Wars exploration yet. Listen to find out.On this week's Born to Watch, the team rallies on Yavin 4 to break down the boldest entry in Disney's Star Wars canon. Whitey brings the heat with tales of midnight screenings and family rewatches, calling Rogue One the "Everest" of modern Star Wars. Damo, initially underwhelmed, admits it took a second viewing to appreciate the depth and daring of this standalone story. And Bones? Let's just say he came armed with more trivia than a Death Star databank, from K-2SO's comic origins to what Chirrut Îmwe's staff is really made of.The episode begins with the squad sharing their first impressions, ranging from faulty cinema projectors to kids ditching mid-movie, before diving into the film's iconic trailer. Vader's breath. The Rogue One theme. Mon Mothma's icy resolve. It still rocks. The boys dissect what made the trailer work and laugh at the glaringly absent "I rebel" line that somehow vanished between teaser and final cut.Naturally, the Born to Watch crew doesn't just scratch the surface. They dive deep into what makes Rogue One so special: a fresh cast of characters who aren't chosen ones or lightsaber prodigies, but ordinary rebels making impossible choices. Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) gets major love for her no-frills attitude, while Diego Luna's Cassian Andor earns newfound respect thanks to the phenomenal Andor series, which Whitey all but begs Damo to finally watch. And then there's K-2SO, the sardonic droid voiced by Alan Tudyk (aka "Two Dicks”, don't ask, just listen). Easily one of the funniest characters in the franchise, K-2 delivers punchlines and gut-punches with equal finesse. The same goes for Donnie Yen's Chirrut and Wen Jiang's Baze, a dynamic duo who bring martial arts, mysticism, and machine guns to the battlefield.Ben Mendelsohn's Director Krennic gets the Aussie shoutout treatment, with the team praising his imperial smugness and exquisite cape work. Forest Whitaker's Saw Gerrera? A source of debate, gasps, and conspiracy theories, is he a Vader prototype? A puffed-up Darth Hipster? Either way, "Bo Gullet" lives rent-free in everyone's head, even if no one quite understands what he's doing there. And then comes the scene. You know the one. The Vader hallway massacre. It's cinematic perfection, a horror movie, action flick, and fan fantasy rolled into one red lightsaber ignition. The team agrees: it might be the greatest single moment in Star Wars history. Period. From there, it's time for Good, Bad, and Ugly, where the sets, the new worlds (Scarif, Jedha), and the grounded stakes all get high praise. The team relishes how Rogue One finally explains the Death Star's ridiculous design flaw, praises its minimal use of nostalgia, and wonders how Jyn Erso climbs that 500-metre tower without even puffing.Legacy-wise, Rogue One is a billion-dollar box office hit that somehow still feels underrated. No Skywalkers. No prophecy. Just a desperate, beautiful mission and a finale that dares to kill every single lead. The episode wraps with laughs, trivia, a tease of a Star Wars Trivial Pursuit rematch, and a reminder that Rogue One is the rare Disney-era film that actually elevates what came before.JOIN THE CONVERSATIONIs Rogue One the best Star Wars movie since the original trilogy?Would you rather pilot an X-Wing or be one with the Force like Chirrut? Is K-2SO the most underrated droid in the galaxy?Drop us a voicemail at https://www.borntowatch.com.au and be part of the show!Listen to the full episode now on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your pods.Don't forget to LIKE, SUBSCRIBE, and click the bell to stay updated on all things Born to Watch, your weekly fix of nostalgia, nonsense, and no-holds-barred movie breakdowns.#RogueOne #StarWars #BornToWatch #MoviePodcast #CassianAndor #K2SO #DarthVader #FilmReview

Today, we begin our mission to bring San Diego Comic-Con International to you. That means four episodes in your podcast feed this week! First up is writer Alex Segura. He's been handed the keys to the Star Wars kingdom, working on the new Marvel Comics ongoing series alongside artist Phil Noto and letterer Clayton Cowles. The new series fills the gaps between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. The New Republic just slayed the Empire. Now what? We chat with Alex Segura about his Star Wars origin, the responsibility of steering the ship during such a critical moment within the canon, and how he'll test Luke Skywalker when he's seemingly at his Jedi Knight peak. Some writers would throw all their childhood toys into the sandbox with a project like this one, but Segura is cautious not to stuff the story with wish-fulfillment. His Star Wars is a carefully considered narrative, beautifully realized by two top-tier collaborators. As you'll also hear, a franchise like Star Wars can be overwhelming for the audience as well. How do you push the envelope for diehard readers while not alienating potential new fans of the series? What's that line in Hamilton? War is the easy part; governing is the hard part. Star Wars is rolling out monthly from Marvel Comics. Make sure you keep up to date with everything Alex Segura has going on by following his Blue Sky, Instagram, and Substack. This Week's Sponsors We're sponsored by 2000 AD, the greatest comic you're not reading! Within its pages is a whole universe of characters, from Judge Dredd and Strontium Dog to Rogue Trooper, Shakara, Halo Jones, and the poor sods slogging across the Cursed Earth in The Helltrekkers. Get a print subscription at your door every week - and the first issue is free! Or subscribe digitally, get free back issues, and download DRM-free copies of each issue for just $9 a month. That's 128 pages of incredible monthly comics for less than $10. This July, IDW Publishing's Eisner-nominated cozy horror hit series returns in Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees: Rite of Spring #1. Superstar Cartoonist Patrick Horvath's delightfully twisted tale about an anthropomorphic serial killer bear is returning to comic shops for a new story that is guaranteed to shock readers. Return to the seemingly idealistic suburban town of Woodbrook as Samantha, the bloodlusting brown bear, got away with her crimes and is now the town's one and only serial killer. Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees: Rite of Spring #1 is out now from IDW Publishing. This July, one of the greatest creator-owned comic series of all time begins a powerful new chapter! From Oni Press, return to the Eisner-nominated world of The Sixth Gun as creators Cullen Bunn and Brian Hurtt reunite for The Sixth Gun: Battle for the Six #1 – an extra-sized comics' event told across three prestige format issues. The Sixth Gun is about to be Reborn anew - as it has been countless times across the centuries. This time, however, a brigade of familiar fighters is ready and waiting to challenge a secret cabal. The Sixth Gun: Battle for the Six #1 arrives in comic shops everywhere on July 23rd. 2015 was a MASSIVE year for franchises. Jurassic Park was about to get a whole reboot in the form of Jurassic World. James Bond was going to finally bring Blofeld and Spectre back in Spectre. Mad Max put the action genre on its head, coming back after 30 years with Mad Max Fury Road. And of course, Star Wars was finally brought back to the big screen in a big way with The Force Awakens. All of these, by the way, have been or will be reviewed by us at The Three Men and a Retrospective Podcast, so we recommend checking those out in our archives. The Mission Impossible franchise had a huge mountain to climb to stick out in a year where there were so many other things to choose from. But director Chris McQuarrie and company proved to be more than up to the task as Mission Impossible Rogue Nation was released and not only amongst the best received of the series. But it also grossed over $700 million worldwide and is still considered amongst the best in the franchise. Yeah, we'd say they stuck out. Join the gang as they look at the fifth Mission Impossible movie Mission Impossible Rogue Nation, and decide for themselves if it deserves all its praise. And come back next week as they look at 2018's Mission Impossible Fallout, and get closer to closing out the series.

Episode SummaryIn a galaxy flooded with content, storytelling is no longer a skill—it's the rebellion. In this milestone 50th episode, Nish and David Granger frame the conversation through the lens of the original Star Wars trilogy—exploring how brands moved from story-rich origins (A New Hope), through algorithmic obedience and commoditization (The Empire Strikes Back), to a moment of reckoning (Return of the Jedi). They dive into why storytelling is the last true differentiator in an AI-driven landscape, how CMOs became “chief algorithm officers,” and why creative ops leaders must become the Rebel Alliance—fighting not just for brand expression, but for brand soul. This episode isn't just about marketing—it's about what you choose to stand for. Key TakeawaysStorytelling isn't decoration—it's differentiation. It's not the packaging. It's the product.Creative commoditization is real—and the Death Star is already fully operational. The question is whether you fight it.The most courageous brands aren't chasing trends—they're building lore.Algorithms reward noise. Storytelling builds meaning. One optimizes for today. The other creates forever fans.Red Bull didn't just sponsor sports. It built a media empire. It didn't buy attention—it earned identity. That blueprint is still possible. From Listening to Thining: From Brand Complacency to Creative RebellionUse these prompts to reflect solo—or spark bold conversations with your team:What stories is your brand telling—accidentally or intentionally? Are you feeding the content machine—or creating stories with staying power? How has your team grown stronger (or weaker) in its narrative instincts? What would your team do differently if storytelling was the mission, not just a deliverable? What's the weirdest, most human thing your brand has ever done? And why did it work? What's your brand's version of the Rebel Alliance? Who are you trying to awaken?Guest: David Granger, Content Director & Co-Founder at Arc & Foundry | Former Head of Content at Red Bull Media House, cinch, PMIDavid Granger has spent over two decades turning stories into strategy. From his roots in journalism to building Red Bull's iconic storytelling machine, David now leads Arc & Foundry, a content marketing agency that crafts emotionally resonant brand narratives. In this episode, he joins Nish to map the creative rebellion—past, present, and future.

Chelli Aphra has returned in the character's third namesake series, as new writer Cherish Chen takes the popular comic-created protagonist in a familiar yet remarkably original direction in Doctor Aphra -- Chaos Agent #1. Artist Gabriel Guzman and colorist Michael Atiyeh join forces again, as they did when Dark Horse had the Star Wars license, bringing a clean and concise yet gritty visage to the book, with VC's Joe Caramagna's letters adding to the effect and pitching each page into the next.Set after the events of the Battle of Jakuu and well before the sequel trilogy, the series starts strong, with a "Monuments Men" vibe that sets the tone going forward as Aphra, always on the run and with a target on her back, may actually try to settle down, so to speak.Comics Discussed This Week:Doctor Aphra -- Chaos Agent #1Star Wars Comics New to Marvel Unlimited This Week:Legacy of Vader #2News: Marvel's September solicits are due later this week and we've already gotten news of two mini-series, including the five-issue Han Solo: Hunt for the Falcon, a five-issue outing set before the events of The Force Awakens, along with the four-issue Boba Fett: Black, White & Red book. In this episode, Masie & Stuart arrive in a galaxy far far away to complete their tribunal of JJ Abram's by covering Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Unearthing over a decade of mixed (mostly negative) feelings about this sequel trilogy, our hosts find that while they are still compelled by the characters and their actors' performances, there are many early signs of the confused, aimless direction future sequel entries would take. Listen as our hosts discuss the film's awkward copy and pasting from the structure and character arcs of A New Hope and eventually devolve into a full dissection of the Walt Disney Corporation and it's many baffling executive and creative decisions with this trilogy.   Linktree: https://linktr.ee/cinema_bones Follow Us on Social Media @ Cinema_Bones on Instagram and Letterboxd for podcast updates.   Additional Reading/Sources: Jenny Nicholson's Star Wars Hotel Review Disney Plus Wrongful Death Lawsuit

Twenty years ago, we went crazy all summer seeing what we thought would be the last Star Wars movie ever; Revenge of the Sith. It was an exciting year of hype, merchandise, and standing in lines. But then, we got an exciting Christmas present when a sequel to our favorite galaxy was released. The Force Awakens awakened that excitement it had been so long since we felt. More Celebrations, more hype, more merchandise, and more lines (although, much easier to navigate). Let's take a look back at two giant Star Wars films.   Check out Jay's article about Revenge of the Sith from 2005 here Where were you in 2005 and 2015? Matthew, Alex (also known as "Where is Jimmy"), and Erin (also known as "A Sapphic Love Affair") dissect the middle chapters of Andor Season 2. The group dives into how these pivotal episodes mark the halfway point of both the season and the entire Andor series, discussing the show's transformation into a sophisticated spy drama within the Star Wars universe. The hosts analyze how Cassian Andor has transitioned from a side character in the first three episodes to now taking center stage. His complex relationship with Bix becomes a major focus, with the hosts questioning whether their relationship is healing or codependent. What began as a seemingly sweet reunion ultimately reveals deep trauma, culminating in a shocking revenge scene that surprised everyone.Key Storylines and Discussion PointsThe hosts examine multiple concurrent plotlines developing across different planets. Saw Gerrera's militant rebel faction introduces bizarre elements like "radonium huffing" that may explain his physical deterioration by Rogue One. Meanwhile, the Ghorman storyline showcases inexperienced rebels making fatal mistakes despite warnings from more seasoned fighters like Cassian. The Imperial Security Bureau (ISB) scenes particularly captivated the hosts, with Syril's complex double-agent role generating significant discussion. The memorable phrase "turn out the lights" between Dedra and Syril sparked playful speculation about their unconventional relationship, while Mon Mothma's careful political maneuvering at an Imperial gala showcases her walking a dangerous line.Additional topics discussed:Did the shocking Dr. Gorst murder scene feel earned or rushed? How does Tony Gilroy excel at writing powerful monologues, particularly Val's heartbreaking speech after Cinta's death? Why was Benjamin Bratt's recasting as Bail Organa jarring for some fans? What connections exist between the rebel base location and The Force Awakens? How do the Ghorman massacre references cleverly incorporate EU/Legends material into canon? What parallels exist between Imperial loyalty oaths and real-world nationalist rituals?Which moments highlight the stark contrast between amateur and professional rebels? The hosts conclude by noting they attended a theatrical screening of Revenge of the Sith, teasing bonus content for premium subscribers in their next episode. This mid-season analysis captures how Andor continues to elevate Star Wars storytelling with sophisticated character development, political intrigue, and morally complex takes on rebellion. **************************************************************************This episode is a production of Star Wars Generations, a The Ethical Panda Podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network.
