In the 234th episode of The Main Street Electrical Podcast, Jenn & Dave finally get to record again!  After an extremely hectic holiday season that saw Jenn take TWO trips to Walt Disney World, while d$ took a 7 day trip that turned into 10 days, they are both here to give the scoop on all the news and reviews.  First up, a quick review of the Disney+ documentary "Jim Henson: Idea Man", a movie that d$ absolutely loved. Then, the fate of Rip Ride Rockit at Universal, plus how Animal Kingdom's Boneyard can be saved.  Free Dining was announced recently, while Big Thunder Mountain and Gran Fiesta Tour are both closed for refurb - one with a much longer down time than the other. To finally cap off the Christmas season, they give their thoughts on 2024's Jollywood Nights event and Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, while Jenn chats about her New Years night spent in Epcot.   Then d$ shares a little about his travels to WDW, and why three of those vacation days were spent in the hospital - and the incredible respond of Disney.

In the 233rd episode of The Main Street Electrical Podcast, Jenn & Dave are finally back on the show!  After weeks of travel and meet-ups and trip hiccups and more, the hosts have hit the record button in their respective studios and are ready to talk some Disney travel -- more specifically, the newest Disney Cruise ship to set sail, the Disney Treasure. First, a little Disney catch up, on Jenn being gone for weeks and d$ finishing up 10 days at WDW, then an update on the newest refurb dates for attractions like Gran Fiesta Tour, plus updated closing/opening dates for several other attractions - plus what will happen with the Skyliner? Then, Jenn gives her report on the Disney Treasure, with so many of its features and surprises - the lounges, including the Haunted Mansion lounge (and its secret menu) and the Scat Cat lounge, themed after the Aristocats... the shows, including the new Moana stage show and speculation of it coming to Broadway... the restaurants, like the Coco experience and show... plus so much more than Jenn saw, and didn't have time to get to. One more ep for 2024 coming up next week!

Mealtimes are intentional, virtually sacred space set aside for nourishment and conversation, welcoming both new friends and old to gather and feel at peace. Here, life is celebrated and loss is mourned, triumphs are exalted and failures are met with unwavering solidarity. Here is where the story of their culture prevails and lingers on, an anchor in the stormy sea of time. This is where we get our passport stamped and receive an open invitation to partake in the ancient story of Mexico and her people…Here, at the table. At EPCOT, the Mexico pavilion stands in true-to-form welcome at the precipice of the entire World Showcase. A towering pyramid nestled in a jungle of lush greenery, it is unmissable and entrancing to all who choose this route to begin their journey. Inside, an eternally twilit mercado echoing with the vibrato of mariachi song and a tapestry of vivid color enthralls our senses all at once. An aroma of bright citrus, earthy spice, and the unmistakable sweetness of corn wafts through the displays of intricately painted skulls and handmade serapes, calling us toward the hacienda beyond. Here, a charming, romantic inn set along a mysterious river is a candlelit haven from the more lively atmosphere we left behind. The Rio del Tiempo, or the River of Time, flows with a gentle enigma past the formidable ruins of a Mayan temple, while boats sail serenely along on their Gran Fiesta Tour of this most enchanting place. From our seat a the water's edge, we can smell the fresh river as it glides through the ages, and hear the songbirds twitter along with the mariachi music. The hush of voices affects a most tranquil environment, and the subtle clatter of cutlery is surely a testament to the mouthwatering cuisine. But before we delve into the labor of love that is Mexican cuisine - luscious tamales prepared by hand, a bowl of frijoles that have been stewed and stirred for hours, the shattering crunch of a fresh tortilla chip accompanied by a symphony of flavorful salsas - our desire to savor this moment is overwhelming our growing appetite. Here, time is not only at a standstill, it has become utterly immaterial. The music, like the twilight, perpetuates in the everglow of flickering candlelight. The hospitality is generous and the spirit is alive with story and song. For all we know, we really have been transported to a bygone waterside hacienda in the heart of Mexico City. It is not only in our minds, the Magic of this place and all that it embodies. It is Here, alive and all-encompassing. It is Mexico; in story and sensation, spirit and song, reaching out across space and time to take our hand and lead us to this very table, this very moment, where we can truly be Here With the Magic. Siéntate, relax, and let this moment whisk you away along the River of Time. ¡Viva la Mexico!

Gran Fiesta Tour Starring, The Three Caballeros, is housed within the pyramid-shaped Mexico Pavilion at Walt Disney World's Epcot. The attraction opened in April 2007, replacing the El Rio Del Tiempo attraction, becoming the first World Showcase attraction to feature Disney characters! The Three Caballeros from the 1944 Disney Film of the same name. Like every Disney attraction, the grand fiesta tour has a story. As we make our way to the rear of the Mexico pavilion, the attraction begins with concert posters. It appears that we are just in time for a three caballeros' performance tonight!!! We board our boat for a scenic ride around a Mayan pyramid with an active volcano in the distance. The boat passes by the main dining area for the San Angel inn Restaurante. A node to Disneyland's Blue Byou restaurant and the Pirates of the Caribbean. As we make our way down the opening tunnel, we See Panchito and Jose introducing themselves, only to realize that Donald Duck is Missing?! Dónde Está Donald Duck? The search for Donal sends us on our journey through Mexico, we need to find Donald in time for the concert. The journey takes us through multiple scenes of live-action footage combined with the animated Caballeros searching for Donald. They eventually find him dancing to a mariachi band with locals; Panchito and Jose pull Donald away just in time for the concert in Mexico City, complete with Fireworks. From the attractions opening until late 2015, the performance was a projected cartoon. In late 2015 the concert scene of the attraction was updated to include the Three Caballeros animatronics from the Mickey Mouse Revue. Mickey Mouse Revue was an opening day Walt Disney World attraction, making the animatronics 50 years old. This video includes the concert scene with both the Animated and animatronic versions. Disney - Walt Disney Imagineering announced this month that it will be rewriting the Jungle Cruise attractions at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom. The changes will see the addition of an animatronic Jungle skipper to the popular Adventureland attractions but will not include the stars of the upcoming "Jungle Cruise" feature film. Disneyland - The Annual Pass Program at Disneyland Resort has been ended, with all passes cancelled immediately with refund offered for all. Disney World - Park Hopping returned at Walt Disney World, as the resort also is introducing a new ticket discount offer for Florida residents. - Disney announced that it will end its complementary Disney's Magical Express bus service to and from the Orlando International Airport for its Disney hotel guests at the end of 2021. - They also annouced that starting later in the year, Disney's hotel guests will get 30 minutes of Early Theme Park Entry to all four theme parks, every day, in a replacement of the Extra Magic Hours Program. - Epcot will get a new exhibit in February, as the new "The Soul of Jazz: An American Adventure." was announced. It will be based on the Disney-Pixar movie Soul. - Also at Epcot, after the breakdown and removal of the Donald Duck animatronic in the Gran Fiesta Tour starring the 3 Caballeros late last year, fans have noticed that all 3 of the animatronics were removed this week and replaced with Cardboard cutouts. Japan - Universal Studios Japan has postponed the grand opening of its Super Nintendo World land indefinitely, due to the proliferation of Covid cases around Osaka. It was due to open on the 4th of February, and continues to be in soft opening. International - Specifcations for Falcon's Flight, the flagship attraction for the new Six Flags Qiddiya park that is now scheduled to open in 2023. The Falcon’s Flight "will travel across approximately 4km, feature a vertical cliff dive maneuver into a 160m-deep valley using magnetic motor acceleration (LSM technology), and achieve unprecedented speeds of 250+ km/h," -Universal Studios Beijing has announced it's major construction is complete, and is on track to open this year. - Disneyland Paris has postponed its planned reopening due to the persistence of new Covid cases in Europe. It's now targetting an April 2 reopening. - Bollywood Parks Dubai will reopen to guests on January 21 and the park has added nine new rides, led by the world's tallest swing ride.

This week, we set out to do something about the rear forty perecent of Epcot's Mexico pavilion as we try to overhaul The Gran Fiesta Tour better than Disney could ever do. After a quick personality quiz that Scottye somehow fails, he brings guests onto five different variations of his attraction featuring everything from ducks to llamas and even outside entertainment and podcast properties, all with a hot dog to match (for some reason). Jim goes a slightly more feasible route, turning Donald from the goat to the hero in a way only he can and the only way Donald would ever allow (by having it be a complete sham).

Today we head to EPCOT to experience the signature attraction of the Mexico Pavilion in World Showcase, the Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the There Caballeros! The guide map describes this ride by saying, “Discover the sights of Mexico and the antics of three feathered amigos on this boat ride.”  There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the Thrill Level simply describes this ride as a Slow Ride. Before we go out and search for Donald Duck with Jose and Panchito, here are five fast facts about this attraction! 1.  The Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros opened on April 6, 2007, replacing the Mexico Pavilion’s original attraction El Rio del Tiempo.  The Gran Fiesta Tour keeps the same layout as the original ride but adds animated film sequences starring The Three Caballeros. 2.   The addition of The Three Caballeros to the ride marked the first time that Disney made the, somewhat controversial decision, to add pre-existing characters into attractions in the World Showcase at EPCOT.  A decision that has continued with Frozen Ever After in the Norway pavilion. 3. The voices of the Three Caballeros are performed by Tony Anselmo as Donald, Rob Paulson as José and Carlos Alazraqui as Panchito. 4.  The center section of the attraction, known as the Festival of Children, features animatronics of singing and dancing children very reminiscent of It’s A Small World.  This portion of the Gran Fiesta Tour is pretty much the same as it was back when the ride was known as El Rio del Tiempo. 5. On December 15, 2015, animatronics of the Three Caballeros were installed in the show’s finale.  The animatronics were reused from the Magic Kingdom attraction the Mickey Mouse Revue which was closed to make way for Mickey’s PhilharMagic in Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland. Now it’s time to ride the Gran Fiesta Tour.  Along for the ride is John B. deHaas and after we ride we will give you our thoughts on this attraction.  Also, this is a binaural recording, so if you have headphones put them on now as we head to EPCOT’S Mexico Pavilion to ride the Gran Fiesta Tour starring The Three Caballeros. Annie and Dan are joined by Jake from the famous Mickey Mutineers Podcast to break down the insanity that is the 1944 Disney Animation Classic, The Three Caballeros. The movie features Donald Duck, who appears to be visited by a possessed film projector that takes him into an existential, and surreal, journey into the culture of South and Central America. There's also something called The Aracuan, which is either a witch or a demon.  The film is the inspiration of The Gran Fiesta Tour at the Mexico Pavilion in Epcot, so it has that going for it.  It also may be Jake's favorite movie, by the way he talks about it, which could explain some things.

In this episode Matt and Nate remember the original Mexico attraction, El Rio del Tiempo.  From its Native American influence to its tropical get-away projection screens this attraction was a favorite of ours.  When the attraction closed in 2007 the Imagineers at Disney dug deep within the archives and brought back a feature than many had forgotten in The Three Caballeros.  Matt and Nate discuss the history of the film including the very interesting circumstances that brought Disney and his artists to South America in 1940 when the features Saludos Amigos and The Three Caballeros were inspired.  Also discussed in the episode is the new Disney Premier Pass that allows guest annual acces to all U.S. Disney Theme Parks.

This week from Disney Parks East we head over to Epcot and cruise with Donald, Jose, and Panchito on the Gran Fiesta Tour! From the Disney Family Museum; Walt shares his thoughts about the South America handshaking tour that turned into a fabulous filming opportunity. We then hear part of a WOR New York interview from 1947 with Jinx from the Tex and Jinx Show about how she and Walt met in Mexico. There’s an undercurrent in this interview that makes me extremely jealous. In Disney Parks West we head into Tomorrowland and take a ride on Space Mountain. After that I take a leisurely stroll around World Showcase stopping to plop in a couch and listen to some music in a Flower & Garden Festival Display, and finally head to North Montana as I catch Fiddler's Joy performing on the stage there. I almost forgot!!! There's about 30 seconds of Paul Revere and the Raiders in there as well... I caught the very eng of their show.
