(Shoutout to our international Disney fans !) Whether you're a first-timer or just someone who enjoys obsessively researching the latest park details, this episode might be your new best friend. Think of it as a Disney trip GPS, but with more scope for bad jokes and fewer reroutes. What's on the itinerary? - Getting there and being there: from airport hacks (TGV or bust!) to navigating the park like a pro. - When to visit and dodge the crowds (hint: Ooparc is your new best friend). - Dining decently: why some restaurants are worth the reservation, but maybe raise your DLP snack game. - The scoop on Walt Disney Studios — because who doesn't like a peek behind the walls? - Do-Not-Miss DLP attractions: from the legendary dragon under Sleeping Beauty's castle to Big Thunder Mountain - just don't miss your Premiere Access slot ! - Using the Disneyland Paris app: for the full experience don't let your phone run empty. Extra pro tip: Beth's official review of DLP coffee? It's not as good as Joffrey's at WDW — but hey, you take what you get! So grab your mouse earphones, as we hope to turn your Disneyland Paris trip from “meh” to “MAGICAL!” Remember, a little planning + a lot of Nutella = the perfect DLP day. 00:00 Introductie

This month marks the 85th anniversary of The Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California. While Walt Disney had a couple of other smaller studio locations previously, this location has flourished for decades and has remained the headquarters of The Walt Disney Company. We'll look at how these studios came about, how it became a world-class facility, what set it apart from other movie studios in town, and why it was such an "employee-friendly" place. And we'll look at how all that still happens today! With all of this we'll share some lessons for any business location or place of business. And we'll also suggest how it contrasts with Disney's Hollywood Studios, as it points to a particular problem the Studios has that is different than the other Walt Disney World theme park experiences. So join us for the 85th anniversary of The Walt Disney Studios in Burbank. ________________________________________________________ More Disney Insights can be found below! A few months ago, I interviewed David Leonhardt, author of Ours Was the Shining Future, about the death of the American dream which, he argued, can be dated from on 5 June 1968 when Bobby Kennedy was assassinated. And it's on that infamous date that I begun my conversation with Jonathan Taplin about the rebirth of the American dream.

Disney's new AI unit could potentially lead to the loss of hundreds of jobs in VFX and post-production, despite recent union agreements against AI replacing workers. The Office of Technology Enablement aims to streamline production in film and TV using AI and augmented reality, potentially disrupting traditional workflows. Jamie Voris, former CTO of Walt Disney Studios, will lead the new unit but report to Alan Bergman, co-chair of Disney Studios, despite the unit's focus on ESPN and Disney TV. The new unit will coordinate AI and mixed reality projects across Disney's divisions, potentially centralizing control over technological innovation. Disney's focus on creating best practices for itself rather than employees or the industry suggests a prioritization of cost-saving measures over worker interests. The unit's goal to ensure next-gen tech initiatives align with company goals could lead to standardization of AI use across Disney's diverse entertainment portfolio. Disney is launching a new AI division aimed at enhancing its film, TV, and theme park operations, while addressing potential job impacts and positioning itself as a responsible industry leader. 00:00 Disney is launching a new AI division to enhance post-production and augmented reality in studios and theme parks. 01:44 Disney is launching a new AI division to improve its film, TV, and theme park operations, which may affect jobs and industry standards. 04:11 Disney is creating a new AI division to explore opportunities and manage risks, potentially affecting around 100 employees in VFX and post-production. 05:55 Disney is launching an AI division to improve theme park experiences with augmented reality while addressing job displacement concerns in film and TV. 07:40 Disney is establishing a new AI division to enhance technology across its business segments while aiming to position itself as a responsible industry leader, though the specifics of this responsibility remain unclear. 09:04 Disney is launching a new AI division to align next-gen tech initiatives with company goals while ensuring individual business units retain control over their projects. 10:17 Disney's new AI division will primarily focus on post-production and visual effects rather than theme parks, despite rumors suggesting otherwise. 11:16 Disney is significantly investing in AI to establish best practices and lead the industry, with Bob Iger at the forefront of this initiative.

In this episode, I share insights from my incredible bucket-list trip with Adventures by Disney in Southern California. This unique experience immersed me in Walt Disney's journey, from his early days in Hollywood to exploring Walt Disney Studios, Imagineering, Disneyland, and Disney's California Adventure. But the real focus of today's episode is on the power and magic of having a vision—something that Walt Disney exemplified throughout his life. I discuss how vision is more than a statement; it's about personal clarity, understanding your purpose, and taking action even in uncertain times. Whether in leadership, work, or life, having a clear vision empowers you to move forward with passion and conviction, bringing your dreams to life. I reflect on Walt's perseverance, innovation, and the lessons we can all learn from his ability to inspire others to believe in his vision, including those who helped bring his dreams to fruition. The Animation Guild (TAG), Local 839 of the Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), resumed negotiations with Hollywood studios this week and are fighting for pay equity for color designers, a job historically staffed by women. Today's show originally ran on July 6, 2023, when the strike by Hollywood writers was in its' 10th week. Among those turning out to support that strike were members of the Animation Guild (IATSE Local 839); in March of 2023, the animators staged a “solidarity walk” around Walt Disney Studios in Burbank with dozens of the studio's animation production workers protesting Disney's refusal to voluntarily recognize its unionization efforts. Those who know their Hollywood labor history will have recognized the echoes of another Hollywood strike, the 1941 walkout by hundreds of animators at Walt Disney Studios. On today's show, animation historian Jake Friedman joins us to discuss his book The Disney Revolt: The Great Labor War of Animation's Golden Age. LESSONS FOR THE DISNEY BOARD: 4/4: Fearless: Wilma Soss and America's Forgotten Investor Movement by Robert E. Wright (Author), Janice Traflet (Author) https://www.amazon.com/Fearless-Americas-Forgotten-Investor-Movement/dp/1958682306 Shareholder activist Wilma Soss rocketed to fame in the 1950s fighting for the rights of the individual investor. But over the years, her legacy was almost forgotten. Based on archival documents, this is the true story of how a disparate group of activist investors-from a PR star to a Holocaust survivor-found each other and became the advocates Fortune 500 management loved to hate. Soss and her band of activists, including the incomparable Evelyn Y. Davis, leveraged the media to promote the rights of small shareholders. The idea was simple: buy one share of stock to gain access to shareholder meetings and remind management whom they reallyserve. These "corporate gadflies" were determined to speak their minds, even if it meant bringing their own megaphones or being dragged out of public meetings. But their message was undeniable, and ultimately changed corporate America for the better. Increased opportunities in the workplace, improved shareholder voting rights and greater corporate transparency were just some of the reforms Wilma Soss and her Federation kicked off in the post-war era. If you're looking for the intellectual heritage of 2021's WallStreetBets phenomenon or the reason Fearless Girl stands as a symbol of American optimism today, look no further than the life, times and efforts of the fearless shareholder activist, Wilma Soss. 1940-1980 WALT DISNEY STUDIOS
