Hey everyone, thanks for stopping by for another episode of colour your life. Today's episode is about the island of Barbados. A gorgeous island located in the sunny skies and warm waters of the Caribbean region. It's been about 180 years since slavery has ended and 55 years since they gained independence but they're still not a republic.Meaning that the queen is still their head of state. However, according to their prime minister that status is about to change as by November they are carded to be a republic nation, free from the claws of Britain. Since I'm not a bajan, for the purpose of this episode I brought on Khaleel Kothdiwala, a student from Barbados, who is very verse in politics to help me and by extension you get a better understanding of why becoming a republic is such a big deal, and what took Barbados so long to hop on the train. I hope you find this episode entertaining. Thank you for taking time to Colour Your Life.
So everyone knows that I love to talk about history I mean what's better than taking pride in our past? But in taking pride in our past and discovering who we are it's also important to take pride in our scars. Our personal scars, our emotional scars, the thing that makes us human and connects all of us not only to our ancestors but to each other. Today my best friend Giovanni Kelly and I (@thegiovannikelly on Instagram) are going to sit down and have a heart to heart about mental health with you guys. We got vulnerable and were honest about our struggles because we believe it's important that people know that they aren't alone in their struggles. Life is hard and with a pandemic going on it makes it even more difficult to escape our inner demons. Thus, we wanted to help out a little, by talking about our own lives and experiences with you; so that you can take comfort in the fact that you are not alone, that you are strong and in the end you can and will get through ANYTHING. The essence of colour your life is education, activism and pride, by doing this episode we are working through our own past and history and advocating for mental health awareness. We may not be as epic as Nelson Mandela or Simon Bolivar but we are people of colour too with our own struggles and stories to tell.Thank you for taking time to colour your life. Today's episode takes you to the lovely island of St. Vincent in the Caribbean. Where we explore a former sugar estate and talk about it's history and definite huantedness. It is based on my first hand encounter with spirits on the island, and aimed at sharing why it is important to allow people to preserve their culture. Enjoy the episode
The first african leader to stand up to the Portuguese, the trans Atlantic slave trade and colonialism. This is the story of an incredible woman, who through power, strength and great wisdom saved her people from the horrors of slavery! And retained her rightful place on the throne.
Apologies for the tech stuff going on here guys. I'm trying. This episode is about the Emancipation of slaves in the British empire in light if emancipation day which is celebrated on august the 1st in all british Caribbean islands!
I have no words that will adequately describe what this series is about. The title I suppose is self explanatory. I felt that, I needed to take a break with talking about incredible people and talk about the things people don't like to talk about
It's the weekend of July 4th, and America despite fighting off a pandemic is gearing up to celebrate their independence. How many people know though, that a black man, from Nevis in the Caribbean single handedly saved the newly freed land from economic crisis and poverty after 1783. He was also the person who won the final battle at Yorktown and drove Britain out of America FOR GOOD. Alexander Hamilton both financially and militarily saved America from Britain
Episode two tells the great legend of Sundiata Keita the founder of the Great Empire of Mali, the richest empire in ALL OF HUMAN HISTORY. It was a little shaky, had some technical difficulties but I'm working on getting the hang of things. Thank you for your continued support. Stay safe and be sure to Colour Your Life.
For the first episode of colour your life, we will have a look at the legacy of Christopher Columbus and evaluate his reputation as founder of the new world. Which btw is FALSE!
