(AH-CNA) Search for lost boy and rescuer continues The search for a lost boy and his rescuer is continuing of the coast of Taitung's Taimali. Yesterday a boy was swept out to sea while playing in a river, and he still hasn't been found. Also missing is a fisherman, surnamed Chen, who was nearby and jumped in to rescue the boy. Chen managed to grab hold of the boy and tried to swim back to shore, but they were both engulfed (吞噬) by a wave and disappeared, according to witnesses. Rescuers searched for the two last night, unsuccessfully, but paused overnight. The search continues this morning, with firefighters, coast guard, helicopters, and drones all dispatched to help out in the search. Those who know Chen describe him as someone always willing to help out, and say, they're hoping for a miracle. Elon Musk criticizes Republican spending bill Elon Musk has criticized Donald Trump's 'big, beautiful" spending bill, saying it would increase the deficit. The Tesla CEO leads the Department of Government Efficiency, which has been trying to slash (削減) federal spending. Ira Spitzer reports. Colombia Union Strike Blocks Traffic Colombia's unions have begun a 48-hour strike to support a referendum proposed by President Gustavo Petro to let voters to decide whether to overhaul the country's labor laws. The work stoppage that began Wednesday was in response to a direct call from Petro. He has argued that Congress is working against the interest of workers by repeatedly blocking his efforts to reform labor regulations. The referendum, whose questions would include whether workdays should be limited to eight hours, has become the crux (難點,關鍵) of long-running tensions between the executive and legislative branches. In the capital, some workers blocked public bus lanes, impeding the movement of thousands of people. Canada Manitoba Declares Emergency Over Wildfire The Canadian province of Manitoba has declared a province-wide state of emergency over a series of wildfires, and Prime Minister Mark Carney has agreed to send in the military to help. Manitoba's premier says the fires have forced 17-thousand people across several communities to flee. He calls it the largest such exodus (大批人的)退出,離開) in living memory in the province. Canada's wildfire season runs May through September. Its worst-ever wildfire season was in 2023, when fires choked much of North America with dangerous smoke for months. That was the I.C.R.T. Mēs Bondu no A līdz Z pabeidzām 18 mēnešos. Īpaši pēc Bonda filmas, es aizvien spēcīgāk izjūtu to, kas notiek pasaulē, to notikumu domino efektu. Kas to vērtē šobrīd, atrazdamies šeit, Latvijā? It kā cilvēki pēkšņi būtu pamodušies jaunā patiesībā, no kuras nav atpakaļceļa. Ko saka tev zināmie filmu ļaudis? Kerijs Fukunaga: Lielākā daļa no viņiem vienkārši nespēj noticēt tam, kas notiek acu priekšā. Lielākoties tā ir tāda apstulbuma sajūta šāda absurda priekšā. Protams, daudzi sev jautā - ko es varu darīt lietas labā? Kā redzam, ielu protesti šeit nedarbojas. Ko darīt? Es nezinu. Man nav atbildes.

Nevis Brands CEO John Kueber joined Steve Darling from Proactive to announce the latest milestones in the company's national expansion strategy. The company has officially launched its flagship cannabis beverage, Major, in the Illinois market and is also rolling out broader distribution of its Happy Apple hemp-derived product in both North and South Carolina. In Illinois, Nevis Brands has secured all necessary state approvals for both product formulation and packaging. Initial production of the Major 100mg 2 oz shots is now complete, and the product is currently available at multiple dispensaries across the Chicago area. The launch lineup includes three popular flavors: Fruit Punch, Blackberry Lemonade, and Blueberry, offering consumers a fast-acting and flavorful THC-infused beverage experience. Meanwhile, the company is also accelerating the growth of its Happy Apple product in the Southeast. Through a new agreement with a top-tier distribution partner in North Carolina, Nevis is expanding its retail footprint to include specialty beer and wine outlets as well as on-premise locations such as bars and entertainment venues across both North and South Carolina. Kueber noted that this regional expansion aligns with the company's broader goal of making Happy Apple a go-to hemp-derived beverage in traditional retail and hospitality channels. To further support growth, Nevis is actively building out its e-commerce capabilities, leveraging social media influencers and digital platforms to enable direct-to-consumer sales. With demand for cannabis- and hemp-infused beverages continuing to rise, Nevis Brands is positioning itself as a leader in both innovation and market reach within the growing functional beverage category. #proactiveinvestors #nevisbrandsinc #cse #nevi #otcqb #nevif #majorbrand #cannabis #CannabisInvesting #THCDrinks #HappyApple #CannabisStocks #HempTHC #CannabisBeverages #InvestorUpdate #JohnKueber #CannabisNews #CannabisRevenue #DebtReduction #ProactiveInvestors

Nevis Brands CEO John Kueber joined Steve Darling from Proactive to share highlights from the company's first quarter financial results, marking a strong start to the year driven by strategic market expansion and operational efficiencies. Kueber reported that Nevis achieved “close to record revenue” in Q1, with a 61% increase in overall revenue compared to the previous period. This substantial growth was largely fueled by robust performance in New Jersey and Missouri, where the company's flagship 100mg cannabis beverage line has secured a dominant market share. In addition, Nevis continues to hold a strong foothold in its home state of Washington, maintaining its presence in an increasingly competitive landscape. One of the most notable financial milestones was a record-setting 78% gross margin. Kueber credited this achievement to a year-long focus on optimizing the company's supply chain and reducing packaging costs. “We've really been able to dial in our suppliers,” he said, underscoring Nevis' lean operational model and its focus on long-term profitability through cost discipline and operational efficiency. Beyond financial performance, Kueber also highlighted the company's commitment to innovation, particularly the growing success of Happy Apple, a hemp-derived THC beverage. With hemp's federal legality, the product offers a broader path to market entry compared to traditional cannabis-based beverages. This not only enables cross-state distribution but also opens up retail opportunities beyond traditional dispensaries. Looking ahead, Kueber shared that Nevis expects to expand into at least one new U.S. territory in the coming quarter and hinted at additional announcements on the horizon. With its strong financial performance, product innovation, and expanding national footprint, Nevis Brands is positioning itself as a key player in the cannabis beverage market. #proactiveinvestors #nevisbrandsinc #cse #nevi #otcqb #nevif #majorbrand #cannabis #CannabisInvesting #THCDrinks #HappyApple #CannabisStocks #HempTHC #CannabisBeverages #InvestorUpdate #JohnKueber #CannabisNews #CannabisRevenue #DebtReduction #ProactiveInvestors

Nevis Brands CEO John Kueber joined Steve Darling from Proactive to discuss the company's financial results for fiscal year 2024 and the fourth quarter ending November 30, 2024. Nevis reported $1.56 million in revenue, more than doubling its 2023 sales as it expanded into new markets and introduced new cannabis products. The company narrowed its net loss to approximately $362,000, down from $400,000 the previous year. When excluding interest, depreciation, and amortization, the adjusted loss was reduced to about $58,000. Nevis maintained its leading position in Washington's cannabis beverage market and achieved the second-best sales ranking in Missouri within its first year in that state. The company also made significant progress in debt reduction, cutting current liabilities from $1.12 million to about $573,000 through debt payments and restructuring. Looking ahead to 2025, Nevis expects continued growth driven by expanding sales of its Happy Apple and Major brands in the hemp-derived THC beverage market. The company also looking for market re-entry in Ohio and Arizona following previous licensing and market shifts. All this happening while the company focused on licensing established products in key markets. Kueber acknowledged that the fourth quarter was challenging, with revenue declines due to licensing and market shifts in Arizona, Ohio, Oregon, and California. However, growth in New Jersey and Missouri helped offset these declines, and the company remains focused on long-term expansion and profitability. #proactiveinvestors #nevisbrandsinc #cse #nevi #otcqb #nevif #majorbrand #cannabis #CannabisInvesting #THCDrinks #HappyApple #CannabisStocks #HempTHC #CannabisBeverages #InvestorUpdate #JohnKueber #CannabisNews #CannabisRevenue #DebtReduction #ProactiveInvestors

Today, we delve into the world of organizations and what my guest calls a “future-fit” organisational culture. My guest is Geoff Marlow and he has over three decades of experience around the world helping organisations create these future-fit cultures. That term caught my attention because around here, we're interested in the future and uncertainty. For part of his career, Geoff spent time on the leadership team of the Society for Organisational Learning, which included the legendary Dr. Peter Senge - a renowned or was a renowned management guru and Arie de Geus, a scenario thinker who was the head of Shell's strategic planning group. Geoff helps leaders understand why organisations fail or succeed. And we tackle all of that in this conversation. We get into Geoff's three aspects of a future-fit culture, which are sense-making, decision-making, and action-taking. We also talk about leadership, change, and so much more. Good afternoon, I'm _____ with today's episode of EZ News. Tai-Ex opening The Tai-Ex opened up 85-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 22,204 on turnover of 4.8-billion N-T. The market closed higher on Monday led by artificial intelligence related stocks ahead off the start of Nvidia's annual G-P-U technology conference - at which its hoped the company will be showcasing positive leads. Chinese 'military unification' influencer 'in theory' must go by 24th Interior Minister Liu Shi-fang says a Chinese national who advocated for China's annexation of Taiwan through military force should, "in theory," leave the country within 10 days of receiving her deportation order. According to Liu, the woman received that deportation order on Saturday. Speaking during a legislative hearing, the interior minister said the deportation order is "somewhat similar (相似的)" to registered mail - where the time starts from the day after the recipient receives the letter. .. and if "it was delivered to your house but you didn't receive it until the next day, then counting would start from the third day, which means there is some wiggle room." The statement comes after the National Immigration Agency this past weekend announced that a deportation order had been sent to a woman identified by a public social media account known as "Yaya in Taiwan." St. Kitts and Nevis foreign minister visits Taiwan The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says Saint Kitts and Nevis' foreign minister is visiting Taiwan this week. According to the ministry, it's the third time that Denzil Douglas has visited Taiwan is his capacity (職位) as foreign minister and he will be meeting with senior government officials during his five-day stay. Douglas and his delegation were welcomed on arriving at Taoyuan International Airport by Deputy Foreign Minister Chen Ming-chi. Douglas is scheduled to meet with President Lai Ching-te and Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung this week. The delegation will also visit the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Israel Launches New Strikes Against Hamas Israel launched new strikes against Hamas and promised ‘increasing military force' after talks on on further hostage releases stalled. Early Friday morning, Israel's Prime Minister's office said it instructed the army to strike Hamas across Gaza. The statement said it was because of Hamas' repeated refusals to release its hostages and its rejection (拒絕) of all offers it received from the U.S. presidential envoy Steve Witkoff and mediators. The strikes come after nearly two months of a ceasefire to pause the 17-month long war where dozens of hostages were released for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. Hamas is believed to have 24 living hostages and the bodies of 35 others. Sweden Gives Uganda Funds for Ebola Sweden has announced new funding of $2 million to support Uganda's response to the ongoing Sudan Ebola Virus Outbreak. The funding will strengthen efforts in the affected districts of Kampala, Mbale, and Jinja – focusing on risk communication, infection prevention (預防), and critical health services. Michael Baleke reports. Pope Shows Slight Improvement Pope Francis is registering new slight improvements in his monthlong treatment for double pneumonia. The 88-year-old pope is now able to spend some time during the day off high flows of oxygen and use just ordinary supplemental oxygen delivered by a nasal tube. Doctors are also trying to cut back on the amount of time he uses a noninvasive (非侵入性的) mechanical ventilation mask at night, to force his lungs to work more. The Vatican press office also provided some details Monday on the first photo of the pope released since his hospitalization. That was the I.C.R.T. This Day in Legal History: Lend-Lease ActOn March 11, 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Lend-Lease Act into law, fundamentally reshaping U.S. foreign policy during World War II. The legislation empowered the President to provide military aid to countries deemed essential to American national security, even if they could not immediately pay for the supplies. This marked a decisive shift from the nation's prior isolationist stance, allowing Roosevelt to support the Allies without directly engaging in combat. Under the act, the United States sent over $50 billion in war materials to nations such as the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union, and China. The aid included weapons, vehicles, food, and other critical supplies, strengthening the Allied war effort against Axis forces. British Prime Minister Winston Churchill described the act as crucial to his country's survival, calling it "the most unsordid act in the history of any nation." The law also laid the groundwork for closer U.S.-Allied relations, ensuring American economic and military influence in global affairs. While many supported the act as a necessary step to combat fascism, isolationists in Congress criticized it as a step toward war. Their fears proved correct when Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941 led to full U.S. involvement in the conflict. Lend-Lease remained in effect until September 1945, helping to shape the postwar world order. The program reinforced the role of the United States as the "Arsenal of Democracy," a term Roosevelt had coined to describe its industrial and military production for the Allied cause. The principles behind Lend-Lease also influenced future U.S. foreign aid programs, including the Marshall Plan. By prioritizing strategic alliances and military support, the act cemented America's role as a dominant force in international relations.U.S. Circuit Judge James Ho resigned from the Federal Judges Association (FJA) over its recent statement addressing rising threats, criticism, and violence against the judiciary. Ho, a Trump-appointed judge and potential Supreme Court nominee, objected to what he saw as a selective concern for judicial independence. The FJA, which represents over 1,100 federal judges, warned against "irresponsible rhetoric" and security risks but did not name specific cases or threats. The statement came amid increasing attacks on judges from figures like Elon Musk and Trump allies, particularly targeting those blocking conservative policies. FJA President Judge Michelle Childs cited growing threats, including intimidation and impeachment efforts, as challenges to judicial independence. Ho criticized the group for not issuing similar warnings when conservative justices, like Brett Kavanaugh, faced threats, arguing that defending only certain judges politicizes the judiciary. He announced his resignation at a Federalist Society event, framing his departure as a stand against perceived bias. The FJA did not respond to requests for comment.Fun fact about Judge Ho, he was sworn in to the 5th Circuit by Justice Clarence Thomas at a library owned by Harlan Crow. Longtime readers of Minimum Competence will remember I featured Crow in a column back in 2023:We've learned much about Crow over the past few weeks—as a friend and benefactor of Justice Clarence Thomas, a collector of Hitlerania and garden gnome versions of history's greatest monsters, and a holder of a “cashport” (I'm coining that term here) to St. Kitts and Nevis, another country that is well known as a tax haven. Some call them golden visas, but that's a euphemism intended to give the entire process the air of legitimacy. James Bond carries a golden visa, Harlan Crow buys a cashport.Trump-appointed judge quits judicial group over warning about threats | ReutersGolden Visas Let People Like Harlan Crow Keep Too Much Hidden (2)The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear a challenge to Colorado's ban on "conversion therapy" for minors, brought by Christian therapist Kaley Chiles. Chiles argues the 2019 law violates her First Amendment rights by restricting her ability to counsel clients in line with her religious beliefs. Colorado officials maintain that the law regulates professional conduct, not speech. Lower courts upheld the ban, citing evidence that conversion therapy is harmful and ineffective. The Supreme Court's decision to take the case follows its recent pattern of ruling in favor of religious interests over LGBT protections. The Court previously declined to hear a similar case from Washington state, though conservative justices dissented. The case will be argued in the Court's next term, starting in October. The ruling could have nationwide implications, as over two dozen states have similar bans. The Court is also considering other cases on LGBT and religious rights this term, with decisions expected by June.US Supreme Court to hear challenge to Colorado gay 'conversion therapy' ban | ReutersWealthy U.S. colleges are ramping up efforts to fight potential tax increases on their large endowments amid growing Republican scrutiny. The Trump administration's recent decision to cut federal funding to Columbia University over alleged antisemitism is just one example of political pressure elite schools are facing. Universities like Harvard, Princeton, and MIT are intensifying lobbying efforts, with leaders traveling to Washington to protect their multibillion-dollar funds. Critics argue that these institutions, which already benefit from tax advantages, should not be allowed to accumulate vast wealth tax-free while tuition remains high. Some proposals in Congress seek to raise the current 1.4% endowment tax or expand it to include schools with smaller per-student endowments. Universities warn that higher taxes could reduce financial aid and deter donors, affecting students who rely on scholarships. The fight comes as Congress prepares for a major tax policy debate in 2025, with Republican lawmakers pushing for broader tax reform. Some smaller institutions, like Wabash College, fear they could be unfairly targeted despite having far fewer resources than elite schools. Meanwhile, top universities continue to brace for further financial and political attacks, with some implementing hiring freezes in response to federal funding threats.Wealthiest Colleges Fight to Protect Their Riches From Taxation This is a public episode.

Blake Harris shares tips for how to improve your asset protection! The conversation delves into how offshore trusts differ from domestic ones. Blake also dispels misconceptions about offshore trusts, emphasizing their legality and utility for asset protection rather than tax evasion. We explore how these trusts work, the best jurisdictions for establishing them, and the practical benefits for individuals seeking robust asset protection. Today we discuss... Offshore trusts help protect assets from lawsuits and divorces while allowing clients to retain control over their investments. Asset protection trusts are designed to prevent courts from easily seizing assets. Offshore trusts offer stronger protection compared to domestic trusts by shifting control to foreign trustees in jurisdictions like the Cook Islands. Offshore trusts provide access to foreign investments and international diversification opportunities. Unlike older practices of hiding money offshore, these trusts comply with IRS reporting requirements and are not used for tax evasion. Countries like the Cook Islands, Nevis, and Belize offer asset protection laws, but the Cook Islands are regarded as the strongest jurisdiction. Domestic trusts are weaker because U.S. courts can compel trustees to hand over assets. Offshore trusts can help clients negotiate favorable settlements or avoid lawsuits altogether. Compliance with offshore trust regulations involves some reporting but is manageable with expert guidance. Asset protection trusts primarily safeguard cash, stocks, bonds, crypto, gold, and silver in Swiss bank accounts. Cryptocurrency can be held under a Cook Islands trust via self-custody, third-party vaults, or Swiss bank accounts. Real estate is typically held in LLCs tied to the trust, with options for further protection through equity stripping. Divorces are treated as "super creditor" cases, but Cook Islands trustees can refuse to release funds under duress. Clients comply with court orders but trustees protect assets by requiring sworn statements of no duress. U.S. courts cannot force clients to perjure themselves, further securing trust assets. Over 10 million lawsuits are filed annually in the U.S., creating a need for robust asset protection strategies.

The Cayman Islands LYNX Flag Football team triumphed in the Women's 8-Man division at the 3rd Annual Heroes Invitational Tournament in Nassau, Bahamas. I don't claim to speak for anyone but myself, and maybe it's a generational thing, but America, to my way of thinking, is less of a place and more of a belief system; a way of looking at the world and the people in it.Americans believe in opportunity and equality.Americans believe, “Treat others as you would like others to treat you.”Americans believe in defending the weak from the strong who would abuse them.Americans believe in lifting people up, dusting them off, giving them a big smile and telling them to try again.Americans don't scare easily, and we don't leave anyone behind.Shortly after the Mayflower arrived at Plymouth Rock in 1620, men and women from every corner of the world began meeting here, mingling here, and producing mixed-race children here. We've been doing it for 400 years. This place has gathered people from every nation that has ever flown a flag. Some of these people came voluntarily. Others were brought here against their will. But none of that matters because children do not get to choose their parents.Americans are not purebred showdogs. We are mixed-breed puppies born in a howling wilderness.Alexander Hamilton was born out of wedlock on the island of Nevis in the Caribbean, but he came to this country and became one of its Founding Fathers. We have printed that man's face on 27 billion ten-dollar bills and the Broadway play about his life was a stunning success. That play, by the way, was written by an American whose DNA is Puerto Rican, Mexican, English, and African. His parents named him “Lin-Manuel” after a poem about the Vietnam War.Is America portable? I believe it is. America is kindness and generosity. If you believe in opportunity and equality, defending the weak, lifting people up, dusting them off, smiling and telling them to try again, you are an American. If you don't scare easily and don't leave anyone behind, you are an American. If you believe in love with its sleeves rolled up, you are an American.Take America with you wherever you go.Be an American today, okay?Roy H. WilliamsPS – Do you live outside the U.S.? Not one of the virtues I mentioned today is exclusive to America. Most people-groups believe in exactly these same things. I wrote directly to the people of America today – calling them out by name – because we have been fighting about some really stupid things for a long time. The virtues I wrote about today live in the hearts of the people of your nation, too, and of every other nation on earth. Wouldn't it be great if we focused on our similarities instead of our differences?*At any given time, there are about 2.5 billion ten-dollar-bills in circulation, but the average ten-dollar-bill is replaced by the Treasury Department every 5.3 years. We have been using Hamilton's portrait on the ten since 1928 (96 years).96 years/5.3 years = 1818 x 2.5 billion = 27 billion portraits of good brother AlexanderHow would Walt Disney run your company? A New Competition For Law (and Jurisdiction)? Jurisdictions famously compete for businesses to use their corporate law. Less discussed is the competition for having one's law chosen to govern contracts. But it happens. Sovereign debt lawyers in England and New York can, if they have a few drinks in them, can be quite entertaining in their sniping at each other about whether English or New York law is better for sovereign issuers. And the sovereigns for their part, seem to only care about what they have done in the past, regardless of what the lawyers say or what court decisions come down (remember pari passu and Judge Griesa in New York – nothing changed). But recently, as a result of the attempts of a few members of the New York legislature to try and mess with sovereign restructuring framework (“improve”, some would say – but not us), a couple of issuers have put in place provisions that allow them to choose to switch governing law (but not jurisdiction?) mid stream, in the event that New York actually passes some daft legislation. We think this is all great fun to talk about. Angry emails about how we should take these matters more seriously should all be sent to the address of Hamilton Bank in Nevis. Producer: Leanna Doty

We also dive into the personal stories of navigating family history through ethnomusicology, highlighting the significance of tempo and poetic expression in Caribbean culture.Jessica Swanston Baker is an ethnomusicologist specializing in contemporary popular music of the Circum-Caribbean. Her work centers on the intricate relationships between tempo, aesthetics, colonial legacies, and the intersections of race and gender in the region and its diaspora. Her book, Island Time: Speed and the Archipelago from St. Kitts and Nevis (University of Chicago Press, 2024), traces the sonic history and ethnographic present of wylers, a fast-paced style of music from St. Kitts and Nevis, examining how it reflects broader histories of colonization, Black femininity, and West Indian performance practices.
