Paul paints a beautiful picture of what the Church looks like, who it is made up of, and hopefully reminds us that there are no "Lone Ranger Christians;" we’re all equally needed and responsible. To purchase the Bible study visit http://www.debwaterbury.com.
Are you taking an active role in what you believe and living those beliefs out? In this episode Dr. Deb continues in Colossians, Paul has focused on “putting off” the old self, and shifts his efforts to encouraging us to “put on” the characteristics of Christ. Most of us pride ourselves on not being gullible. Have you ever been deceived? Chapter 2 of Colossians addresses this precisely. The Colossian church had been deceived and Paul was writing to them in an attempt to get them back on track. For more resources visit http://www.debwaterbury.com.
If you’re in Christ, have you recognized how sufficient He is? Dr. Deb acknowledges the basic strategy of all of Paul’s teachings and how he shows us the strategy of Christian theology. For more resources visit http://www.debwaterbury.com.
Paul starts off this book by reminding us of the basics. We all need to be reminded of this so that we can start that climb back into the front seat! For more resources visit http://www.debwaterbury.com.
At some point in our lives we have all called “Shotgun!” when everyone is running for the car and no one wants to be stuck in the back seat. Whoever yells, “Shotgun!” gets to ride in the front seat with the driver. Have you ever wondered why that is? Why do we prefer to be in the front seat of a moving vehicle rather than in the back? What does our Forever look like? The bible says that when you die right now, you go into Heaven to be in the presence of Jesus Christ, our Lord. When Christ returns, and the battle is won, there will be a new heaven and a new earth and we will be given a resurrected body. This New Jerusalem will be our forever home, the old earth will be destroyed (or perhaps renewed/restored), and will be in eternity. For more resources visit http://www.debwaterbury.com. Does Heaven ever seem boring? Eternity is many times assumed to be a never ending church service, which should make our hearts glad, but seems to leave us downtrodden. Eternity is NOT boring! It is not the same thing forever and ever; it is a resurrected life, in a resurrected body, on a resurrected earth. Heaven is real and it’s real right now (not the same as the New Jerusalem). Satan wants us to believe lies about Heaven, but God has told us the truth. For more resources visit http://www.debwaterbury.com.SCRIPTURE: John 8:44, Revelation 13:6, 2 Peter 3:13, Hebrews 11:9-10
The world is groaning after what they don’t even know they need. We, as believers, should share the solution by proclaiming Jesus Christ as Savior. Evangelism is a responsibility given to us, not a gift, which many Christians misconstrue it to be. We all have different gifts, and we all evangelize in different ways, but nevertheless it is a duty given to all of us. Elizabeth and her 11 friends learn this firsthand when they are called to mandate the king’s words to the people of Comdonshire, each in their own way. Jesus took us as His bride and then sent us into the world to glorify Him and proclaim His Good News, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For more resources visit http://www.debwaterbury.com.
When James referred to the word "Gehenna," it referred to all of the filth and stench of sin that will one day be punished in the Day of Judgment. Jesus said that on that day we would have to give an account of all the words we have ever said. For more information visit http://www.debwaterbury.com.
This week on Get Real with Dr. Deb we are on part 3 of the White Zephyr Series and looking at James 3. Our tongue is powerful and can be so destructive. The more one talks, the more apt one is to say something wrong. We have to recognize that we are a new creation in Christ Jesus, putting off the old self and putting on the new self; and much of that has to do with keeping our mouth closed. For more resources visit www.debwaterbury.comSCRIPTURE: Proverbs 10:19, Ecclesiastes 10:14, Ephesians 4:22-31, Psalm 141:3, James 3:1-5, Proverbs 13:3, 1 Peter 2:22-23
This week on Get Real with Dr. Deb, we are on week 2 of the White Zephyr Series and looking at the story of David and Bathsheba in 2 Samuel 11. We can describe the lives of believers as shadows and light, the sin and “not sin” that we are always walking in. God gives us beautiful (and tragic) stories of people in the Bible who the Lord redeems with no condemnation against them. In order to be redeemed, we must come face to face with our sin so that we can turn away from it and live in the light. For more resources visit http://www.debwaterbury.com. SCRIPTURE: 2 Samuel 11:6-27, Corinthians 10:11-12, Numbers 32:23, Romans 6:12
In part one of White Zephyr in the Painted Window Series, we are looking at the life of David in 2 Samuel 11. David was a man after God’s own heart, but at the same time had committed almost every sin imaginable. David decided he “needed a break,” allowing a cascade of sin to occur because he took a break not only from his duties as king, but from God. Do we as humans do the same thing? For more resources go to www.debwaterbury.com SCRIPTURES: 2 Samuel 11:1-5, 1 Chronicles 21:1-5, 1 Peter 2:11, Ephesians 4:22, Hebrews 11:25, Proverbs 23:32
In the final section of Threads, it is obvious that things are about to get much worse. The characters come together and they do something very significant: They share with each other the words the king had left each of them. They also realize that they have to lean into these words, and they have to tell others about them. For more resources visit www.debwaterbury.com. SCRIPTURE: Psalm 25, Proverbs 2:1-5
We must remind ourselves and those we come in contact with the Words of our Bridegroom. If that’s not where we train ourselves to go first, then how are we going to direct others to go there? Dr. Deb continues the story of Elizabeth and the town of Comdenshire, and how they use the knowledge they have been given to to set them up for victory or defeat. Visit http://www.debwaterbury.com. for more resources. Why is it important that we are convinced of the viability and reliability of God’s Word? These things do not save, so what do they do? Dr. Deb dives into the word and highlights how the events in the bible follow everything that has happened on the earth. For more resources visit http://www.debwaterbury.com. SCRIPTURE: Numbers 11:31, Ezekiel 26:2-14, John 14:1-3
The characters in the book Threads are devoted to their king. There is no question of their loyalty or of their citizenship in the kingdom.
