In this episode of the Story of Scripture, Ted Ryskoski, Lance Lawson, and Rachel Chester discuss the scrolls, trumpets, witnesses, and beasts of Revelation. While at first glance, it all appears complicated and confusing, this imagery has deep roots in the Old Testament, and provides simple, compelling message for the church today.
Clear Creek Resources - A Podcast of Clear Creek Community Church
In this episode of The Story of Scripture, Ted Ryskoski, Lance Lawson, and Rachel Chester begin the book of Revelation. A letter that is sometimes ignored, sometimes minutely studied, and often misunderstood. What can be learned from the opening of this letter and what is its surprisingly simple message?
Call: Psalm 2 Offering: Acts 20:35 Scripture: Revelation 5:1-7 NASB Revelation 5:1 introduces a divine scroll sealed with seven seals, representing God's final decree of judgment and salvation, rooted in the Old Testament pattern of covenant lawsuits against unfaithful Israel. This legal document, complete and final, is held in the right hand of God and cannot be opened by any creature, symbolizing the inescapable weight of divine justice. The only one worthy to open it is the slain Lamb—Jesus Christ—whose sacrificial death and resurrection qualify Him as both the judge and the redeemer, fulfilling the role of the rejected Messiah who overcomes. His worthiness is grounded in His victory over sin and death, making Him the sole mediator of the new covenant that supersedes the old, bringing judgment upon covenant unfaithfulness while establishing a new people of God. The scene in heaven, with worship from the four living creatures and the 24 elders, underscores the cosmic significance of Christ's redemptive work, where His sacrifice is the foundation of both judgment and eternal worship, calling believers to live in the freedom and hope of the new covenant, united in a community that transcends earthly divisions.

SCRIPTURE: Revelation 1:1-8SHOW NOTES: For encouragement on your spiritual journey, we invite you to visit our ministry website, Discover God's Truth, where you can access additional resources to enrich your Walk with God. The book of Revelation starts with a greeting and a blessing that blend elements of prayer and doxology. These verses strongly praise Jesus Christ (verses 5-6), and verse 7 offers a prophetic statement about His second coming. "John to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace, from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne." Revelation 1:4 The apostle John (the disciple Jesus loved) is addressing actual, historical churches. He speaks to them in the same way as the New Testament letters. These seven churches represent those from every era since the first century and show common patterns of obedience and disobedience. "Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the tribes of the earth will mourn over Him. So, it is to be. Amen." Sermon: The New JerusalemSeries: Revelation - Jesus Wins!Scripture: Revelation 21:9-22:5Speaker: Dr. Jimmy A. LongLocation: Grace Fellowship of GreensboroDate: Sunday, November 16, 2025
Call: Psalm 149 Offering: 1 Chronicles 29:9 Scripture: Revelation 3:7-13 NASB The Church of Philadelphia, though small and marginalized in its cultural context, is commended by Christ for its unwavering faithfulness, holding fast to His word and name despite persecution from both Roman authorities and Jewish opponents. Jesus, identified as the holy, true one with the key of David, affirms His sovereign authority over the kingdom, declaring that no one can shut the open door He has provided, emphasizing that true access to God comes through Him alone, not through human institutions or religious heritage. He promises to vindicate His faithful people by humbling their enemies, making even those who falsely claim to be God's people bow before them, and to keep them secure through the coming hour of testing, not by removing them from the world, but by guarding and sustaining them in faith. The ultimate reward for perseverance is eternal permanence in the temple of God, where believers will bear the name of God, the New Jerusalem, and Christ's own new name, signifying their eternal belonging in the heavenly city. This passage calls all believers to prioritize faithfulness over influence, to trust in Christ's power rather than their own strength, and to remain steadfast in the truth, knowing that their eternal security and significance are rooted not in worldly success, but in Christ's unchanging faithfulness.

Sermon: The Great White Throne JudgmentSeries: Revelation - Jesus Wins!Scripture: Revelation 20:11-15Speaker: Dr. Jimmy A. LongLocation: Grace Fellowship of GreensboroDate: Sunday, November 2, 2025
The Book of Revelation is often misunderstood as a frightening prediction about the end times, but its true message is one of hope and redemption. Many people abandon reading it halfway through, missing the beautiful conclusion where good triumphs over evil. After describing battles and judgment, Revelation reveals God creating a new heaven and earth where He dwells permanently with His people. In this renewed creation, there is no more death, pain, or tears—God Himself wipes them all away. The scary story transforms into the ultimate story of hope, reminding us that no matter what difficulties we face today, we already know how God's story ends: the Lamb wins.
Scripture - Revelation 2:12–17To the Church in Pergamum[12] “And to the angel of the church in Pergamum write: ‘The words of him who has the sharp two-edged sword.[13] “‘I know where you dwell, where Satan's throne is. Yet you hold fast my name, and you did not deny my faith even in the days of Antipas my faithful witness, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells. [14] But I have a few things against you: you have some there who hold the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, so that they might eat food sacrificed to idols and practice sexual immorality. [15] So also you have some who hold the teaching of the Nicolaitans. [16] Therefore repent. If not, I will come to you soon and war against them with the sword of my mouth. [17] He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, with a new name written on the stone that no one knows except the one who receives it.' (ESV)

Scripture - Revelation 2:8–11To the Church in Smyrna[8] “And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write: ‘The words of the first and the last, who died and came to life.[9] “‘I know your tribulation and your poverty (but you are rich) and the slander of those who say that they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan. [10] Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life. [11] He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. The one who conquers will not be hurt by the second death.' (ESV)
Sermon: The Rider on the White HorseSeries: Jesus Wins!Scripture: Revelation 19:11-21Speaker: Dr. Jimmy A. LongLocation: Grace Fellowship of GreensboroDate: Sunday, October 19, 2025
Revelation 12-14 presents a cosmic battle between the dragon (Satan), the beast (anti-God empires), and the Lamb (Jesus). The woman clothed with the sun represents Israel and the church, while the dragon's fury explains why bad things happen to good people. The beast symbolizes any system demanding loyalty at the cost of faith, whether ancient Rome or modern consumerism and nationalism. In contrast, the Lamb conquers through humility and self-sacrifice, not force. These chapters call us to examine whose jersey we're wearing and whose song we're singing, challenging us to live as worship becomes resistance against fear and empire.
Revelation isn't a horror story but a message of hope wrapped in apocalyptic imagery. Written to persecuted churches in Asia Minor, it unveils the spiritual reality behind suffering and shows that Jesus remains sovereign even amid chaos. The four horsemen represent systemic evils like political oppression, war, economic collapse, and death—forces that appear in every generation. Yet the crucial message is that none of these terrors operate outside God's authority. For believers facing fear, Revelation offers the assurance that death isn't the final chapter and that Christ, not chaos, gets the last word.

In this episode of FACTS, Stephen Boyce and Pat May explore one of the most striking Marian images in all of Scripture—Revelation 12. Was the Apostle John given a heavenly vision of the bodily assumed Virgin Mary? And is the Queen of Heaven not merely a title, but a reality rooted in biblical prophecy and fulfilled in Christ's glorified Mother?Stephen and Pat walk through the imagery, theology, and early Church interpretations of this apocalyptic vision. They also address common Protestant objections and show how the assumption and queenship of Mary harmonize with Scripture, not contradict it.If you'd like to donate to our ministry or be a monthly partner that receives newsletters and one on one discussions with Dr. Boyce, here's a link: https://give.tithe.ly/?formId=6381a2ee-b82f-42a7-809e-6b733cec05a7 #FACTSPodcast #StephenBoyce #PatMay #QueenOfHeaven #AssumptionOfMary #Revelation12 #BiblicalMariology #CatholicTheology #MaryInTheBible #Theotokos #JohnsVision #Apocalypse #ChurchFathers #HeavenlyLiturgicalVision #MarianDoctrine
