What happens when a culture loses belief in God?In this deep and surprisingly funny conversation, Dr. Chris Palmer joins Dr. T. Michael W. Halcomb to discuss nihilism, modern despair, AI, atheism, church hurt, faith, science, memes, Dostoevsky, Nietzsche, and why Christianity still matters in a collapsing culture.Dr. Palmer's new book A World Without God explores what happens when society abandons transcendence and attempts to construct meaning without God. Along the way, this conversation tackles:• Why modern culture feels empty• The psychological consequences of nihilism• Why faith and science “play by different rules”• Church hurt and hypocrisy• Dostoevsky vs Nietzsche• AI, memes, absurdism & modern despair• Why beauty still points people toward God• Whether Christianity is essential for human flourishingThis episode is thoughtful, philosophical, pastoral, and unexpectedly hilarious.

What if the biggest problem in Genesis 3 wasn't just disobedience… but deception? In this episode, Dr. T. Michael W. Halcomb uncovers the serpent's strategy in the Garden of Eden—not to deny God, but to distort His character. The lie? That God was holding something back. But when humanity took the bait, they didn't become like God… they became afraid, ashamed, and hidden. And God's response? It wasn't rage—it was pursuit. This episode explores the deeper meaning behind the fall, the first hint of grace in Scripture, and what it reveals about who God truly is.#jesus #podcast #faith #bible #biblestudy #christ #theology #history #scholar #jesuschrist #christianeducation #christianity #eden #education #educationalvideo #educational #god #provetext #glossahouse Study deeper with GlossaHouse:

Text: Genesis 35 Repentance and Renewal (Gen. 35:1-8) God calls Jacob to return to Bethel and renew his faith. Jacob proves his repentance by purifying himself and forsaking the foreign idols of the culture. God's call to return is matched with His protection. Promise and Purpose (Gen. 35:9-15) God reminds Jacob of his true identity and His unchanging character. God reaffirms His covenant promises to Jacob. Jacob responds by offering a sacrifice of worship to the Lord. Funerals, Failure, and Fulfillment (Gen. 35:16-29) Jacob is faced with the deaths of his wife Rachel and his father Isaac. Jacob is confronted with the sinful failure of his son Reuben. Jacob's family is a result of God's fulfilled promises. Main Idea: God is able to bring His people back from failure to a life of renewed faith in His never-failing promises.

She opens up about what it looks like when people who were hurt in one place begin bleeding on people who did not cut them, and why healing has to happen if relationships are ever going to become healthy again. In this episode of Between Me and You, Robbie talks honestly about the impact of disappointment and how unresolved pain can spill into leadership, finances, marriage, family, and everyday relationships. She explains how people often develop trust issues, control issues, and unhealthy patterns because of wounds that were never properly addressed, and how those patterns can end up costing the wrong people.
In this episode of the Sound Words Podcast, we sit down with Dr. Gary Gromacki, Professor of Bible and Theology at Calvary University, to explore one of the most debated issues in Christian theology: Israel's role in God's plan.Does Israel still matter to God today, or has the Church replaced Israel? What exactly did God promise to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—and who inherits those promises? We also tackle the question, “Who is a Jew?” from a biblical perspective, and consider whether Christians should support modern Israel politically. This conversation brings clarity to a complex topic and helps believers think biblically about Israel, the Church, and the faithfulness of God.Recommended Resource:Israel: A Concise History of a Nation Reborn (Daniel Gordis) - https://a.co/d/056LCmnkSound Words is a ministry of Indian Hills Community Church, a Bible teaching church in Lincoln, NE. You're the dependable one. The strong one. The one everyone leans on.But inside? You're exhausted — and wondering who fills your cup.In this episode, Dr. Uejin Kim reframes the story of Martha through the lens of parentification, anxiety, over-functioning, and unhealed childhood roles. If you've ever felt stuck in the “responsible one” identity — constantly scanning for needs, proving your worth through service, and secretly resenting how unseen you feel — this message is for you. Through a psychological and biblical deep dive into Luke 10 and John 11–12, we explore how Jesus doesn't shame high-functioning achievers… He frees them. This is about breaking the comparison trap (Martha vs. Mary), healing performance-based identity, and learning how to serve from love instead of fear.CONNECT WITH DR. Today on Ascend: The Great Books Podcast, Dcn. Harrison Garlick and Dr. Sarah Berry of the University of Dallas discuss Acedia, Avarice, and part of Gluttony in Cantos 18-22 of the Purgatorio.Visit thegreatbookspodcast.com for more information!Check out our GUIDE to the Purgatorio!Dr. Sarah Berry joins Deacon Harrison Garlick to explore Cantos 18–22, covering the terrace of sloth (acedia) and the transition into avarice and prodigality. In Canto 18, Virgil delivers a pivotal discourse on love as the root of all human action, explaining that love can be misdirected (pride, envy, wrath), deficient (sloth), or excessive (avarice, gluttony, lust). Berry emphasizes the terrace's brevity and lack of a formal prayer: “their prayers are their action... the penitents too... are doing the thing as a way of offering up some kind of prayer to God” (Dr. Sarah Berry), with running souls and examples of zeal (Mary's haste to Elizabeth, Caesar's swift march) countering sloth's cooling of love. The dream of the siren in Canto 19 warns against deceptive earthly goods, while the face-down penance on the avarice terrace forces fixation on the earth once loved excessively: “these are those who had a disordered love of money... goods that can't be shared” (Dr. Sarah Berry).Cantos 20–22 deepen the exploration of avarice's societal and personal consequences. Hugh Capet's lament in Canto 20 indicts the French dynasty's greed and sacrilege, including the capture of Boniface VIII. Berry highlights the terrace's broadened scope: “Dante is really broadening... our awareness of this constellation of problems” beyond mere hoarding or spending. In Canto 21, Statius is released with an earthquake and song, explaining his long purgation on sloth and avarice before moving freely upward. Canto 22 poignantly contrasts Statius (saved through Virgil's influence and grace) with Virgil himself, who lacks faith despite his virtues. Berry notes the tragedy: “Dante is inviting us... hoping that there is some special providence for Virgil at the end of his journey through purgatory” (Dr. Sarah Berry). The cantos reveal Purgatorio's hopeful, dynamic nature: purgation reorders love through grace, habituation, and contemplation, moving from deficient to excessive attachments, preparing the soul for divine union.Chapters00:00 Introduction to Ascend and Dante's Purgatorio02:29 Exploring Dante's Purgatorio: Themes and Structure04:30 The Importance of Purgatorio in Spiritual Growth08:32 Understanding Love and Culpability in Purgatorio12:00 Diving into Canto 18: The Lesson on Love13:26 Virgil's Discourse on Love and Free Will17:40 The Nature of Love: Ascent and Culpability20:31 The Role of Reason in Human Actions26:01 The Formation of Intellect and Will33:12 Contrapasso: The Penance of Slothfulness40:19 Examples of Zeal: Mary and Caesar42:17 Understanding Zeal and Sloth47:04 The Subtlety of Sin and Human Effort52:31 Dreams and Allegory in Purgatory01:00:27 The Nature of Prayer and Action01:01:58 Exploring Avarice and Its Consequences01:20:15 Exploring Dante's Inferno: Sin and Intellect01:23:03 Wrath and Sloth: Roots of Sin in Purgatorio01:25:23 Positive Examples: Virtue Against Avarice01:29:30 Dante's Critique of French Dynasties01:35:56 The Role of Statius: A New Perspective01:50:30 Virgil's Tragic Journey: Hope for Salvation?KeywordsDante's Purgatorio, Sloth, Love, Virtue, Spiritual Growth, Theology, Literature, Dante, Purgatory, Christian Virtues Dante, Purgatorio, allegory, sin, virtue, divine justice, theology, Mount Purgatory, purgation, salvation

The John Witte, Jr. Lecture Series on Christianity & Law is back! A new venture from Christian Legal Society aimed at advancing the conversation surrounding the integration of Christianity & law. In our third lecture inspired by the Düsseldorf School of painting, we discuss law, family, and religion in late antiquity. Our keynote is Dr. Maria Doerfler, an Associate Professor of Late Antiquity at the Yale University's Department of Religious Studies. Before joining the Yale faculty, she held the position of Assistant Professor of Christianity in Late Antiquity at Duke Divinity School, as well as serving as director of the Duke/UNC Center for Late Ancient Studies. Her work focuses on the interpretation of authoritative texts, of law, philosophical writings, and scripture, in the second through sixth centuries C.E., with particular emphasis on how contexts of personal or communal crisis shape exegesis. She was joined by Elizabeth Kirk for a period of Q&A after the lecture. Elizabeth is the Co-Director of the Center for Law & the Human Person and an Assistant Professor at the Columbus School of Law. In today's message, we take a biblical look at the unfolding situation involving Iran through the lens of Jeremiah 49:34–35 and Daniel 2:31. Jeremiah's prophecy concerning Elam and Daniel's interpretation of the great statue remind us that God rules over kingdoms and history itself. Rather than stirring speculation, this sermon calls believers to confidence in God's sovereignty, discernment in uncertain times, and faith-filled prayer. For the full visual teaching and deeper explanation, watch the complete sermon on YouTube.

Texts: Genesis 25:19-34; Romans 9:6-16; Hebrews 12:15-17 God's Miraculous Grace (Gen. 25:19-21) God's promise of continues as He answers Isaac's prayer for children. God's miraculous grace is displayed in giving Isaac and Rebekah children in the midst of years of barrenness. God's Electing Grace (Gen. 25:22-28; Rom. 9:6-16) In this passage, there are two sons with two predetermined destinies. God chooses who will be His own – not based on human merit, but solely by His grace. The doctrine of election eliminates pride, encourages gratitude, and propels evangelism. God's Warning Grace (Gen. 25:29-34; Heb. 12:15-17) Esau sells his birthright for a meal in the backdrop of Jacob's deception. This serves to warn us against trusting our own deceitful desires for the instant gratification of our flesh.

It's Christmas, and we're celebrating the birth of Jesus, so it's the perfect time to think about his mother, Mary. While she is omnipresent in Christianity - especially in Christian art - we know very little about her. This is why I was very excited to learn more about, and from, her through my guest, Dr. Christine Valters Paintner. Christine is the author of Birthing the Holy: Wisdom from Mary to Nurture Creativity and Renewal. She has a PhD in Christian spirituality, is an abbess, and is the author of more than twenty books on spirituality. Christine tells us about her American mother, Susan, a United Nations employee who struggled with rheumatoid arthritis but transformed her suffering into a gift for others when she earned an MA in social studies to become an advocate for people with disabilities. Susan teaches us to empower others - to not see ourselves as victims, but to use our challenges to help those around us - and to embrace the power that comes with older age. In the second part of the episode, we talk about Mary and her lessons: to show up in the world, to accept the calling to create the holy, to embrace the power of the sacred feminine (intuition, creativity, dreams, and gestation), and to be a loving and present witness in both birth and death, in the positive and the negative. Christine also shares an important lesson for many women: that we are not responsible for everything, and that sometimes we, too, need to be taken care of. Finally, she speaks about healing our ancestors by healing ourselves. I invite you to reflect on Mary, her presence, and what she represents to you during these holidays. And I wish you, dear listeners, blessed holidays and a happy 2026. To learn more about Christine and her work, please vist her website here. Subscribe to Ana's new "Mama Loves…" newsletter here. In this deep and thought-provoking episode, Dr. Niraj Poudyal, a respected academic researcher and philosopher, discusses Atheism, Secularism, and the relationship between Science and Religion. The conversation begins with his personal interest in atheism, followed by an exploration of what atheism truly means—beyond misconceptions that it's simply “not believing in God.” Dr. Poudyal explains how religion and culture overlap, the belief in karma and reincarnation, and how changing religion isn't the same as becoming an atheist. He offers insights on the origin of religion, the historical situation of atheism, and how ideas of superpower and energy relate to spiritual and scientific thinking. In the second part, Dr. Poudyal breaks down secularism, explaining its importance in maintaining balance between faith and freedom. He also addresses morality for atheists, challenging the notion that ethics require religion. The discussion closes with reflections on science, reason, and human values. Whether you're religious, spiritual, or skeptical, this conversation helps you understand the spectrum of belief, atheism, and secular thought in a broader human and Nepali context. Join Rosalynde Welch for an interview with Dr. Steven Peck, a professor of biology at BYU, a naturalist, and a novelist. Steve is at the Maxwell Institute to work on a project that explores relationship between beauty, nature, science, and faith. He argues that our universe possesses an excess of beauty over and above what is strictly necessary for its operation, and that an understanding of evolution can point to God's presence in the universe. In fact, Steve goes so far as to say that we live in an aesthetic universe, and that beauty is God's signature. Join me for this surprising conversation with the brilliant Steven L. Peck.
Are Aliens Just an Extension of Our Consciousness? Are psychedelics the only way to tap into a higher state of consciousness? Dr. James B. Glattfelder on the Transcendental Multiverse, Psychedelics, and the Fight for Meaning What if communicating with aliens isn't “out there”, but deep within? In this mind-expanding episode of Mayim Bialik's Breakdown, Dr. James B. Glattfelder, complexity scientist, metaphysical idealist, former quant, and author, dives deep into the true nature of consciousness, the limits of traditional physics, and the emergence of meaning in our increasingly fractured world. From psychedelic dimensions and the “transcendental multiverse” to the hidden role of identity in societal collapse, Dr. Glattfelder explores: - Why modern physics hits a wall when explaining consciousness, and why the pendulum is swinging back toward spiritual and philosophical truth - Whether alien contact during DMT trips is actually us tapping into a wider field of consciousness - Why he believes we live in a transcendental multiverse, and how you can train yourself to explore it - His personal experiences with psychedelics, and why he thinks they should be a last resort for accessing higher states - Natural ways to stimulate DMT production without substances - Potential mental health benefits of THC - Alternative modalities that lead to non-dual states and expanded awareness - Dangers of cosmic nihilism in today's spiritual seeking - Why identity is at the root of our collective dysfunction - Whether everyone should have access to higher consciousness, or if it's best left to the few - Why exploring your consciousness has the radical power to transform your life - Delicate balance between intuition, metaphysical signs, and grounded presence - Neuroscience vs philosophy: Why brain damage sometimes unlocks new genius abilities - How religion served humanity before it was weaponized, and what's next - Why we suffer, even if there's a loving intelligence behind everything - The real cure for our crisis of meaning? A return to re-enchantment with reality - Why so many plants have psychedelic properties, and what that says about consciousness itself This conversation will shake the foundations of what you believe is real! Why Science Is Pointing Back to God. Dr. Stephen Meyer. ACU Saturday Series. For decades, we've been told that science and faith are incompatible that the more we understand the universe, the less room there is for God. In this interview, we explore the latest discoveries in cosmology, physics, and biology from the Big Bang to DNA and how they reveal a universe that looks designed. What if modern science isn't disproving God, but actually pointing us back to Him?
