Shotgun Spratling and Kasey Kazliner return on the Dedeaux Download Podcast to break down another unblemished weekend for USC baseball as they improve to 11-0 on the season after recording their first four-game series sweep since 1978! They also talk with junior second baseman and leadoff hitter Abbrie Covarrubias about his and the team's hot start to the season. The Trojans' starting pitching was again electric as Mason Edwards, Grant Govel and Andrew Johnson all three were spectacular and Chase Herrell joined the mix with five scoreless innings on Thursday. The Trojans nearly had their second no-hitter of the season as Edwards and Sax Matson combined to throw TEN hitless innings Friday, but the game remained scoreless until the top of the 11th inning when USC broke the game open with six runs. That left the only question being whether the Trojans could get the final three outs before Cal Poly could get its first hit. They fell one pitch shy. Freshman Diego Velazquez got the first out but a grounder up the middle bounced off second base and out of the grasp of a sliding Covarrubias for an infield single. On the next pitch, Velazquez got a ground ball for a 5-4-3 double play to end the game. After being bottled up Friday, USC's bats responded in a big way, pounding out 21 hits and scoring 16 runs -- both season highs -- while Govel again was outstanding on the mound despite giving up his first earned run of the season on a solo homer late in his seven-inning start. The Sunday matchup appeared to be going similarly to the dominant performances USC had shown the rest of the weekend until the ninth inning. After Johnson had been lights out, allowing one run on four hits in 6.2 innings, the Trojans held a 6-1 lead going into the ninth inning. That's when the Mustangs finally showed some life, scoring five runs with the help of a two-out error to tie the game and send it into extra innings for the second time in the series. The 10th inning remained scoreless, but USC burst through with a pair of runs in the 11th and freshman Gavin Lauridsen closed it out for the 8-6 win to complete the sweetp. Shotgun and Kasey break down all the action and look forward to the upcoming matchups against UC Irvine and the start of Big Ten play against Illinois. Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino return to the microphones with a little twist to their typical format as they take on previews for USC's upcoming 2026 spring camp, which begins on Tuesday. Part 1 takes on the offense. That doesn't stop them doing their traditional opening the Two-Minute Drill. Chris uses his Two-Minute Drill to fire back at some of the NFL Twitter criticisms of USC wide receiver Makai Lemon during his media interviews. Shotgun uses his TMD to shine some light on No. 25 USC Baseball, which improved to 11-0 on the season with an 8-6 win over Cal Poly. The boys of Helium then jump into the spring preview in the following order: quarterbacks, running back, tight ends, wide receivers, offensive line and kickers. USC has potentially another high-powered offense coming back with starting QB Jayden Maiava, five returning starters on the offensive line and two of the best Big Ten running backs in King Miller and Waymond Jordan. The offense will be looking to replace its top two wide receivers and tight ends, including Biletnikoff Award winner Lemon. Shotgun Spratling and Kasey Kazliner return on the Dedeaux Download Podcast to break down USC baseball's 7-0 start to the season following a 10-run rule midweek win over Loyola Marymount and a sweep of Rice. The Trojans' weekend starting pitching was again electric as Mason Edwards, Grant Govel and Andrew Johnson all three won their starts to help USC get off to its best start since 2015. The Trojans' weekend starters did collectively give up their first run of the season but only combined to give up one while striking out 28 over 17 innings. USC's bats didn't have the same proficiency as they tallied only 13 runs on 18 hits over the three-game series, but they did enough to put the Trojans in position to stay unbeaten this season. Shotgun and Kasey break down all the action and look forward to the upcoming matchups after they talk with USC assistant coach Sergio Brown, who talks about moving back into an on-field instruction role after being the director of player development the last three years for the Trojans. Brown also discusses the success of USC's pitchers, the Trojans' freshman class that is already providing key contributions and the impact getting Kevin Takeuchi back in the lineup has had after he missed much of last season with injury. Daniel Chamberlain and Coach Kenny Simpson open with February coaching updates, including state conventions, the coaching carousel, and clinic season, and discuss the difference between social/job-networking clinics and scheme-intensive clinics. They share an Abraham Lincoln discipline quote and relate it to the GWAT 100 February mileage challenge. Kenny promotes his books (Complete Guide to Buck Sweep from the Shotgun and O-10 to 10-0), the Gun-T system update (7.0), and the move of Gun-T resources to gunteesystem.com, then lists upcoming Gun-T clinics (Sacramento, Houston, Ohio, Boston, and a newly added Tampa clinic March 20–21). Daniel promotes the 4-2-5 Defense Clinic in Boston (March 13–14), possible Naples, Florida dates, speakers including Brady Bradbury and a Massachusetts state-championship coach host, and notes early-bird pricing and hotel deadlines. The main topic is in-game adjustments: defining them as planned, built-in counters to unexpected looks or opponent changes (personnel, fronts, coverages, or targeted matchups), not desperation play-calling. They emphasize preparing adjustments in the offseason, keeping a small, concept-based system with tags, practicing answers during the week, assigning coaches specific “eyes” (front, back end, formations, fits), and communicating clearly between drives and at halftime, with great coaches adjusting in real time. Examples include flood-and-go, pop pass, false pulls, and formation changes when opponents struggle to align. They discuss evaluating adjustment ability (between drives vs halftime vs “we'll fix it next week”), and the importance of writing down halftime plans. A “situation of the week” covers facing an unexpected bear front after preparing for two-high; Kenny explains abandoning dead scripted calls, using numbers/space and built-in tools, and coordinating quick conversations with line and QB coaches to adjust run game, protections, and pass/RPO answers before the next series. They close with sponsor mentions (Aport video boards and fundraising, Winning Edge Performance Analytics, Blended Threads), and share where to find them and the podcast on social media.00:00 Welcome + February Coaching Carousel & Clinic Season00:30 State Conventions: Networking, Gossip, and What Clinics Are Really For02:55 Quote of the Week: Discipline (Lincoln) + Team Themes Update04:14 G-Watt 100 Challenge: Discipline in Real Life05:42 Books, Gun-T System Updates, and New Website Resources07:56 Upcoming Clinics Tour + 4-2-5 Boston Details12:45 Today's Topic: What Are In-Game Adjustments?19:03 Why In-Game Adjustments Matter (Neutralize Strengths, Exploit Weaknesses)24:39 How Great Coaches Adjust: Between Drives, Halftime, and Preparation30:16 Practical Steps: Defensive Adjustment Process (Don't Chase Ghosts)31:29 Defensive End-Game Adjustments: Stop the Star, Pressure the Backup QB33:03 Offensive Built-In Answers: Tags, Flood-and-Go, and Planning for Counters34:08 Practice Like Friday: Scout-Team Freedom & Midweek Adjustment Reps35:51 Coach's Eyes & In-Game Communication: Assigning Keys and Spotting Trends36:50 Halftime Case Study: Real Adjustments vs Desperation Calls38:24 Pregame Film Study & Learning from Officials' Keys41:46 Write It Down: Call Sheets, Walking Halftime Meetings, and Staying Organized43:15 System Design: Modular Tags, Communicable Calls, and Player Ownership49:11 Situation of the Week: Too-High to Bear Front—Immediate Game-Day Response55:37 Sponsors, Clinics, Where to Find Us, andDaniel Chamberlain: @CoachChamboOK ChamberlainFootballConsulting@gmail.com chamberlainfootballconsulting.com Kenny Simpson: @FBCoachSimpson fbcoachsimpson@gmail.com FBCoachSimpson.com

Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino return to the microphones to talk about the upcoming spring camp for the Trojans and the recent media day interviews for the assistant coaches. Chris uses his Two-Minute Drill to pitch his co-host to give up this line of work and start training for the 2030 Winter Olympics in a specific event. Shotgun takes a more rational approach and shouts out the Projans from the Seattle Seahawks' Super Bowl win over the New England Patriots with his time on the mic. The boys of Helium briefly the discuss the strange Ja'Kobi Lane story with his locker being raided before discussing takeaways from assistant coaches speaking to the media last week, including defensive coordinator Gary Patterson and safety coach Paul Gonzales. The Helium Boys then dive into the second half of the show to get Shotgun's reaction to some spring camp themed Take It Or Leave It topics. The hosts also discuss what NFL Trojan that they would add to the 2026 roster. The show ends with the Overtime period where Shotgun builds his fake city's fast-food selections. In this engaging campfire conversation, Larry Weishuhn sits down with Rick Lambert at Baker Bottoms to talk quail hunting traditions, shotgun preferences, habitat conservation, and a lifetime passion for the outdoors. Rick shares highlights from his recent experience at the historic Grand National Quail Hunt in Enid, Oklahoma, discussing the camaraderie, competition, and conservation focus that make the event special. The conversation expands into broader reflections on declining quail populations, the importance of habitat management, and the evolution of firearms and ammunition. Blending storytelling, technical insight, and classic outdoor nostalgia, this episode celebrates the heritage of upland hunting and the people working to preserve it. Rick recounts being invited to the long-running hunt dating back to the 1940s. Event combines: Two days of hunting Four days of fellowship and fundraising Strong emphasis on habitat preservation and conservation. Rick's team won both the trap shoot and quail competition. Takeaway: The hunt is as much about relationships and conservation as it is about shooting. Larry and Rick discuss the troubling decline of quail populations, especially in Texas. Key factors discussed: Habitat destruction (especially fence line clearing) Disease pressures (including eye worm issues) Changes in land management practices Rick emphasizes: “You cannot destroy the habitat of anything.” Both hosts reflect nostalgically on hearing bobwhite whistles in their youth versus today's scarcity. Rick describes himself as a traditional double-barrel enthusiast. His preferences: Strong love for side-by-side and over-under shotguns Favors sub-gauges, especially the 28 gauge Appreciates wood and steel over synthetic materials Believes .410 is often too challenging for beginners Notable insight: “If you call yourself a shot, you can kill anything with a sub-gauge that you can with a 12 gauge.” Rick shares how his views evolved over time: Early resistance to polymer pistols like Glock Eventually adopted them after seeing their practical advantages Still emotionally prefers traditional firearms This segment provides a thoughtful look at balancing tradition with modern performance. The conversation shifts into lever-action rifles and classic hunting arms. Discussed favorites: Savage 99 (especially in .300 Savage) Marlin rifles (post-Ruger acquisition quality improvements) Browning BLR Ruger No. 1 Rick shares a lifelong dream tied to the Savage 99 and traditional deer camps in the Northeast. Both men stress responsible hunting: Know your personal limits first Know your firearm's limits second Avoid wounding game Practice at distance to improve close-range precision Larry explains that long-range practice is about building confidence for ethical shots inside 100 yards. Rick reflects on future hunting goals: Considering bird hunting trips to Scotland or Sweden Has hunted Africa, New Zealand, Canada, and Mexico Plans to focus more on wing shooting as he ages Memorable line: “At 75 I'm going to start shooting feathers because I love shotgunning.” This episode delivers classic campfire storytelling mixed with practical hunting wisdom. It will especially resonate with: Upland bird hunters Shotgun traditionalists Conservation-minded outdoorsmen Fans of classic firearms The conversation reinforces that great hunting is about heritage, habitat, and the people you share camp with. “Most firearms have more character than we do as shooters.” Learn More: DSC Foundation: dscf.org Dallas Safari Club: biggame.org Learn more about your ad choices. Peace and harmony looked like an empty apartment and a recliner. That's when he knew something was wrong. Dave Shotgun Shell spent decades chasing adrenaline … football, MMA fighting, even karaoke when his body couldn't take the hits anymore. After multiple concussions and near-death experiences starting at age two, he subconsciously became addicted to intensity. But when the crashes started outweighing the highs, he swung hard in the opposite direction: two hours of meditation daily, seeking peace and harmony. What he got instead was an empty apartment, a divorce, kids who lived elsewhere, and an isolated existence with nothing but four white walls and a recliner. He had achieved perfect peace. And zero impact on the world. This conversation with Genea digs into the cost of extremes, and what happens when you finally stop escaping into either adrenaline or spirituality, and start living from the middle. Dave and Genea explore:
Police have arrested an 18-year-old man who approached the U.S. Capitol with a loaded shotgun on Tuesday. They said the suspect also had "multiple rounds of ammunition" and a tactical style vest.

Shotgun Spratling and Kasey Kazliner return on the Dedeaux Download Podcast to break down USC baseball's 3-0 start to the season with a historic Saturday performance. The Trojans threw a combined no-hitter that ended in dramatic fashion as a two-run homer from Andrew Lamb invoked a 10-run mercy rule. Sandwiching the dominant 11-0 display on Saturday were a pair of close victories for USC as it won the season opener 3-1 and then locked up the sweep Sunday with an 8-5 victory over the Pepperdine. In each game, the Trojans got elite starting pitching, allowing just three hits over three starts and 16 innings. Shotgun and Kasey break down all the action and look forward to the upcoming matchups after they talk with USC sophomore right-hander Grant Govel about throwing the first six innings of a no-hitter and striking out a career-high nine batters. Govel also discusses his offseason development, putting on 20 pounds of muscle and refining his repertoire, which was all working for him in his start against the Waves. Today's guest is the founder of Scooter's Hunt Camp Scott was raised in the small town of Emmett, Id. Scott loves all sports and spent 6 years chasing dreams by playing college baseball. After that didn't pan out baseball he came back to Emmett working several different jobs trying to find my place. In 2006 the opportunity was presented to buy an Insurance Agency here in town. He now owns this agency, and this was a GOD thing as the freedom of being his own boss has given him much time with his sons. In 2007 Scott was introduced to Kami, a year later they were married. In 2010 & 2013 they welcomed 2 amazing sons into their tribe. I joke tribe as we are all registered in the Cherokee Nation. In 2021 Scott lost Kami to Breast Cancer. She was an angel here on earth, but God needed her with him. In 2000 Scott was given the vision to give back to kids through hunting. He was given a gift as a successful hunter. In fact, in 2001 he was named the Idaho State Bowhunters bowhunter of the year. Scott founded and now directs the Scooter's Youth Hunting Camp in Emmett. It has been a labor of love for Scott. He works for the kids 24/7/365 as a volunteer. SYHC is 100% volunteer with no paid staff. The volunteers who show up for the camp are amazing and all get an Orange SYHC shirt. The volunteer crew has been coined the "ORANGE ARMY" with the past couple of years being 120+ strong. There is a joke around the area that Scooter has 4,000 nieces and nephews because of the interactions from this camp. In 2015 Scott added to the SYHC by creating "Hunting Dreams". This subchapter of the camp does 2 hunting trips a year for children who have suffered a life-threatening illness. One Bear hunt each spring and an Elk hunt each fall with everything donated to fully outfit the hunters. Hour 2 kicks off with Shawn Syed of SumerSports reporting live from media row at Super Bowl LX, breaking down the matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots, while highlighting the critical role of special teams and the latest coordinator hires in the NFC East. Chris Russell then shares his candid thoughts on the “under center” debate, defending Jayden Daniels and the Commanders against critics who question their offensive approach. The conversation shifts to the broader league as Russell weighs in on the NFLPA's stance against an 18-game season, arguing that more games don't automatically mean better football. He closes the hour with a sharp take on the push for 18 games, asserting that it's driven by money, not improving the quality of the game for fans.

The waterfowl shotgun market doesn't look like it did 10–20 years ago, and there's a reason for that. In this episode, we break down the shift from legacy American brands to modern, feature-driven options that dominate today's duck blinds. We talk about how names that once defined waterfowl hunting slowly lost ground, why foreign and budget-friendly brands gained traction, and how changing hunter expectations—reliability, price, performance, and innovation—reshaped the market. This isn't about brand bashing or hype. It's an honest conversation about what changed, why it changed, and what it means for today's waterfowl hunter when choosing a shotgun.

On this episode of Buck’s Beat, Buck Belue breaks down the Atlanta Falcons hiring Kevin Stefanski as head coach and bringing in Tommy Rees as offensive coordinator — and what it all means for franchise quarterback Michael Penix Jr. Falcons President of Football Matt Ryan has been aggressive this offseason, locking in Stefanski, retaining Jeff Ulbrich on defense, and reshaping the organization’s leadership. But Buck doesn’t sugarcoat the concerns: Stefanski’s recent record, his long list of quarterbacks in Cleveland, and the PR challenge Falcons fans are wrestling with after eight straight losing seasons. The focus then turns to the most important piece of the puzzle — Michael Penix Jr. Buck dives into Penix’s early NFL tape, advanced metrics, pocket presence, and overall skill set, explaining why he believes Penix can become a top-10 quarterback in the league. He also breaks down Stefanski’s Kubiak-Shanahan West Coast system, heavy play-action concepts, under-center usage, and why this offense could be a strong schematic fit for Atlanta’s offensive talent. After doing the homework, Buck explains why he’s feeling better about the hire — not because of blind faith, but because the system finally matches the quarterback.
The brilliant Jayne Ann Krentz, romance trailblazer and royalty, joins us this week to talk about one of her favorite tropes--the shotgun wedding! We're talking all things forced marriage...how it differs from marriage of convenience, how it underscores the inherent conflict in romance, and how it often ends up being more like romantic suspense than one would expect! We also talk a bit about how secret babies (and babies in general) play into this trope. Did Jayne also say something that Sarah had to stop the interview to write down? Of course she did!If you have favorite forced marriage/shotgun weddings, maybe you want to join the Fated Mates patreon? A surprising hire, a clear philosophy The Detroit Lions have their new offensive coordinator. Drew Petzing is in. On the Detroit Lions Podcast, Russell Brown and Scott Bischoff sifted through first impressions and got to the substance. Initial reactions felt muted. The shiny name wasn't coming. But the more they worked through scheme and personnel, the more the hire fit what the Lions want to be in the NFL. They pushed back on the noise. Fans cherry-picked stats. Few considered what Petzing had to work with. The conversation stayed on the grand picture: what this offense needs to do on Sundays and how Petzing can get it there. Lessons from Arizona that matter in Detroit Petzing's Arizona run offered useful clues. In 2023 he split the year between Kyler Murray for eight games and Josh Dobbs for eight. Dobbs looked good in that structure. In 2024 Murray played the full season. The offense was fine, not great, but functional. In the most recent season, Murray played about four or five games. Context mattered across all three years. Usage stood out. James Conner was highly productive despite not being a super explosive athlete. Arizona created touches for him as a runner and receiver. That detail resonated with Detroit. Think Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery. Creative throws to backs. Turn easy completions into first downs. That is bankable offense when games tighten. The fit: second-and-4 football The hosts kept returning to down-and-distance. This is the point of the Detroit Lions offense. Get to second and four. Open the playbook. Run play action. Move the chains. Control the clock. Petzing aligns with that identity. The expectation is a coherent ground attack that puts Jared Goff and the passing game in favorable spots. They contrasted that with the allure of Mike McDaniel. Fun idea, but not a clean fit. Shotgun-heavy. Wide zone as a base. That would force major changes to what Detroit does. Petzing's approach blends easier with the current core and the way the Lions want to play in the NFL. Framing the 2026 NFL Draft The discussion acknowledged uncertainty around how this hire touches the 2026 NFL Draft. The lens is clearer than the board. Build an offense that lives in manageable downs. Lean on play action. Feature backs in the passing game when the coverage picture invites it. Those are guideposts for roster planning, not predictions. It was cold outside. Snow piled up. Inside the Detroit Lions Podcast, the thesis warmed up fast: the name might not sparkle, but the fit makes sense. That is what matters for Detroit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jp037jHNnn0 #detroitlions #lions #detroitlionspodcast #drewpetzing #arizonacardinals #offensivecoordinator #kylermurray #joshdobbs #jamesconner #jahmyrgibbs #davidmontgomery #rungame #playaction #shotgunoffense #widezone #bradholmes #2026nfldraft Learn more about your ad choices. Robert Jenrick has sensationally defected to Reform. After a day that started with his sacking from the Conservatives – over plotting to reject – continued with the will-he-won't-he drama of whether Farage would accept him as a new Reform member this afternoon; it ends with a press conference welcoming him to Farage's gang.So what happens now? Kemi Badenoch was praised for her show of strength in swiftly expelling Jenrick, but she is undoubtedly weakened after this news and her frontbencher looks considerably lighter. Is this an inflection point for the Conservative party? And what role will Bobby J play in Reform – could he be their new shadow chancellor?Oscar Edmondson, Tim Shipman and James Heale discuss a hectic day on the British right.Produced by Oscar Edmondson.Become a Spectator subscriber today to access this podcast without adverts. Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino return behind the microphones for another episode of the Helium Boys Podcast, a serious non-serious USC football podcast. The Helium Boys are back to wrap up the 2025 season taking a final look at the Trojans' overtime Alamo Bowl loss to TCU and what the 9-4 campaign means for the USC program moving forward. The podcasting duo also looks at a wide array of roster-related topics, including transfer portal additions/subtractions, re-signings and the couple of players that still have not officially finalized their 2026 plans. The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill' that features Chris discussing his New Year's resolutions, which feature several USC-related ones, and Shotgun discussing the latest transfer portal additions, including former five-star quarterback Husan Longstreet jumping in and heading to join former USC head coach Lane Kiffin at LSU. The podcasting duo then discuss the topic that continues without a resolution: USC's search for a new defensive coordinator. The first half of the show continues with Chris and Shotgun discussing how the Alamo Bowl and the two weeks since the conclusion of the 2025 season have affected the outlook on the Trojans for 2026 in the "Stock Up, Stock Down" segment. Some freshmen get some love for stepping up in the bowl game that featured 12 USC starters not playing while the offensive line seems primed to step forward next season with all five opening day starters and two other reserves that started this year all returning. On the negative side stands USC's tackling efforts after 16 missed tackles as well as the Trojans' recruiting endeavors in the state of Georgia for the 2025 recruiting class In the second half of the show, the Helium Boys look at the continuously evolving 2026 roster, discussing the latest transfer portal losses, transfer portal additions, the re-signings announced by USC and the last group of players that have not had their future endeavors revealed. The podcast duo also answer your mailbag questions discussing the transfer portal. After some 'Take It or Leave It' questions for Shotgun, the episode concludes with Chris sending the episode into overtime with some things to take or leave in the year 2025.
