On April 6, 1997, the Lillelid family was shot and killed by six young people. Trained as a nurse and widowed in 1869, Dyer turned to baby farming—the practice of adopting unwanted infants in exchange for money—to support herself. Harold Fredrick Shipman was a convicted English serial killer. A doctor by profession, he is among the most prolific serial killers in recorded history with 218 murders being positively ascribed to him, although the actual number is likely much higher. In 1989, he sexually assaulted and murdered three young boys in Vancouver, Washington. He was arrested later that year after a failed attempt to abduct a six-year-old boy at a movie theater. Westley kept detailed accounts of his murders in a diary which was found by police. After pleading guilty to the charges of murder, he received the death penalty. For our very first podcast, we decided to discuss a less well-known serial killer named Dorothea Puente, a.k.a "The Death House Landlady". In the 1980s, Puente ran a boarding house in Sacramento, California and murdered various elderly and mentally disabled boarders before cashing their Social Security checks. Her total count reached nine confirmed murders, and six unconfirmed. Many of her victims were found buried in the boarding house’s yard.
