ROBERT DURST: MURDER OF A MAFIA DAUGHTER-Cathy ScotNov 20, 2020Susan Berman was reared in the lap of Las Vegas luxury as the daughter of Davie Berman, a notorious casino mogul and mafia leader. It wasn't until college-well after her father's death-that she learned what he really did. She ultimately dedicated her life to learning about Vegas and its underworld chiefs, publishing two acclaimed books on the subject: Easy Street and Lady Las Vegas. Her story takes a turn for the bizarre in 1982 when Kathie Durst-the wife of college friend and heir to a New York real estate fortune, Robert Durst-mysteriously disappeared. Robert Durst was considered a prime suspect but a case was never mounted against him. Shortly after the Kathie Durst case was reopened Susan Berman was found shot in the back of the head, mob execution style. No forced entry, no robbery, nothing missing from her home. Like Kathie Durst's disappearance, Susan's murder is unsolved, but again Robert is a suspect. Did she know her killer? Did she have information about the fate of Kathie Durst? Many questions-but few answers. At present Durst is awaiting trial in Galveston, Texas, for the murder of an elderly acquaintance who some suspect may have had information regarding Kathie Durst's disappearance. This book includes exclusive information on the "Durst Connection" from LAPD investigators working on the Berman case. It will surely draw the attention of the nation as the Durst trial hits the nation's tabloids this September.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.

Crime Writers On...True Crime Review

Behind the scenes, years before Robert Durst's hot mic murder confession made it to air, investigators in the Susan Berman case had been reviewing evidence uncovered by the producers of “The Jinx.” And as America grew transfixed with the 2015 TV series, the man connected to three high-profile crimes felt the heat.Once the millionaire fugitive was captured, prosecutors began building their legal case by tying together two crimes. They argued Berman knew Durst was behind the disappearance of his first wife, Kathleen, and he murdered Berman to keep her quiet. But to prove their theory, they'll have to get it out of Durst's many loyal friends and associates. In “The Jinx - Part Two,” director Andrew Jarecki reveals in real time what was happening as the original HBO series shook up the cold case. With extensive jailhouse recordings and courtroom footage, the sequel dissects the murder trial and seeks to answer the final mystery: what happened to Durst's money?OUR SPOILER-FREE REVIEWS OF "THE JINX - PART TWO" BEGIN IN THE FINAL 10 MINUTES OF THE EPISODE.In Crime of the Week: inhospitable. Simpson last Wednesday, April 10, we are reaching into the archives of Crime Story Media to present a series of special interviews related to the way that the historical narrative of Simpson's trial for the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman has been preserved for posterity. We begin today with Kary Antholis's exclusive interview with Bill Hodgman who had oversight responsibilities for the team prosecuting O.J. Simpson: Marcia Clark and Christopher Darden. That interview was conducted on January 24, 2020, the 25th Anniversary of the beginning of Oral Arguments in the trial. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we present Kary's two-part interview with Larry Karaszewski and Scott Alexander, the creators of the Emmy and Golden Globe winning limited series The People vs. O.J. Simpson. And on Thursday and Friday, we present Kary's two-part interview with Ezra Edelman the producer and director of the Oscar and Emmy winning documentary epic, O.J.: Made In America. And finally, as you know, this Jury Duty Podcast began by covering the LA trial of Robert Durst for the murder of his friend Susan Berman.Over the course of three years we have published more than 150 episodes covering the trial, both before and after the pandemic, including extensive interviews, with the lead prosecutor on the case, two of the trial's jurors, and Charlie Bagli, a reporter who had covered the Durst family for decades. As you may know, The Jinx 2 — a six part documentary series sequel to The Jinx about the LA trial of Robert Durst — premieres on the Max streaming service on April 21. In parallel with that broadcast, we are scheduling a special event for Season 10 of the Jury Duty podcast. For each of the six weeks of The Jinx 2 series we will re-release four of our favorite episodes about the Durst trial from the Jury Duty feed… for a total of 24 episodes. The first episode of Jury Duty: The Durst Trial's Greatest Hits will drop on April 22.Now on to the first episode of our Jury Duty Special, The Legacy of the OJ Trial. Interview conducted with Robert Durst by Los Angeles County District Attorney's office Interview conducted with Robert Durst by Los Angeles County District Attorney's office on March 15, 2015 in Louisiana. The most interesting is the last 15 to 20 minutes of the video. This interview was released to the public by the LA County District Attorney's office in a motion filed on December 16, 2016. Robert Alan Durst (April 12, 1943 – January 10, 2022) was an American real estate heir and murderer. The eldest son of New York City real estate magnate Seymour Durst, he gained attention as a suspect in the unsolved 1982 disappearance of his first wife Kathleen McCormack, the 2000 murder of his longtime friend Susan Berman, and the 2001 killing of his neighbor Morris Black. Acquitted of murdering Black in 2003, Durst did not face significant further legal action until his participation in the 2015 documentary miniseries The Jinx led to him being charged with Berman's murder. Durst was convicted of the murder in 2021 and sentenced to life in prison without parole. He was charged with McCormack's disappearance shortly after his sentencing, but died in 2022 before a trial could begin.

He was then investigated for the murder in 2000 of his friend Susan Berman and the killing the following year of his neighbour Morris Black.Durst stood trial in 2003 for Black's murder, but it ended in aquittal; However, the documentary series The Jinx showed significant new evidence in the case of Susan Berman and led to a trial which resulted in Durst being convicted of her murder and sentenced to life without parole.
