Nashville recording artist, singer, songwriter, and Transylvania University alum Sarah Beth Terry is the epitome of a woman raised in rural country who rejected societal norms and expectations. Sarah Beth admits she's relentless in her work. Her life motto is, “If I'm going to do it, I'm going to do it right.” As a staff writer for Three Hounds Music, she wrote 645 songs in 2018, exceeding her annual quota by 633 songs. “If I'm going to catch lightning,” she says, “I need to put about 70 lightning rods on the roof.” Terry has caught lightning a couple of times in her career with two well-placed cuts. One song, “We Are All God's Children,” is on the Gaither Vocal Band's album and quickly rose up the gospel charts. The second, a song that Sarah Beth co-wrote with songwriter and artist Anthony Smith, “I Hate the Taste of Whiskey,” was released by country artist Craig Morgan. Source: Three Hounds Music. When Paula was fenced in and punching a time clock, she said, “If I can make a living helping people, I'll have it made.” That's precisely what she did as a grant writer and what she's doing today as an author. Her life purpose is to help people transform their lives as she has, which inspired her to write Thought S.N.O.B.: The Modern Spiritual Playbook for a Better Life. Paula's relatable style has earned her a massive 260,000 social media followers across all platforms, with more than 6,500,000 video views. At 25, broke and miserable, she enrolled in college as a non-traditional student. Six years later, she obtained a bachelor's degree in political science and a master's degree in public administration. In May 2021, after working in fundraising for over a decade, Paula resigned to focus on her lifelong dream of being an author. Paula has studied spirituality for almost 20 years. Her studies include workshops with self-help giants like Wayne Dyer, Louise Hay, Deepak Chopra, and Abraham Hicks. Studying under the best, Paula figures she has accumulated 150,000 hours of experience in this field, making her an expert. She is trained in Transcendental Meditation, Primordial Sound Meditation, and Tapping. To expand her toolbox of offerings, she studies under Deepak Chopra himself. She has earned certifications in Meditation and Ayurveda Health and is working on the most prestigious credentialing offered by the Chopra Center, the Total Well-Being Coaching certification. Even though manifestation is something we do naturally, Paula believes some people must be taught. Her dedication to teaching vulnerable populations how to manifest the lives they deserve is her gift to the world. Coined by her followers as the “most relatable self-help influencer out there,” Paula's social media analytics show that she helps approximately 30,000 people daily through her social media posts and online workshops. Her posts and live events are attended by tens of thousands of viewers, drawn to her relatable style and easy-to-follow strategies. In Thought S.N.O.B., she picks up where her social media has left off, giving readers the tools to move from havoc to happiness. When she's not providing advice or running workshops on social media, Paula enjoys listening to music, and her taste is as diverse as her lifestyle. Don't be surprised to see her in the PIT for Machine Gun Kelly one weekend and then at Elvis Presley's Graceland the next. Paula thinks she's been to Graceland twelve times but admits she stopped counting long ago. She is a world traveler with an eye and an appetite for luxury, but Paula craves silence and solitude more than anything else. Even though she seizes every opportunity to experience new things and adventures, her favorite place is home with her husband and two dogs. Michael Cairo, Professor of Political Science and Program Director of International Affairs at Transylvania University's, most recent book is “American Presidents and Israeli Settlements since 1967.” Events such as Bush illegally invading Iraq in 2003, Trump giving Israel carte blanche and withdrawing from the Iran Nuclear Deal, and Biden ignoring the problem until October 7 contributed to the volatile situation. The UN created Israel and Palestine in 1947-48 and has been involved in working to promote peace though the UN Security Council, UN Relief and Works Agency, World Food Program and other agencies. Several myths were destroyed: Israel was invulnerable and could contain Hamas, and the Abraham Accords would cause Arabs to abandon Palestinians. The world needs to make sure the war is limited, develop trust on both sides, cease horrific carnage and dismantle some settlements with the goal of a two-state solution. As UN Secretary General Guterres said, “Nothing happens in a vacuum.”

We dissect the missteps, from the stun pen fiasco to the comedy of errors during their final act, comparing these with the escapades of our own less dire pasts. It's a rollercoaster of nostalgia, absurdity, and a dose of reality on the consequences of criminal aspirations.Wrap up the episode with us as we peek into the aftermath of the high-stakes world of art theft, the unsung heroism of librarians, and the seven-year shadow that a prison sentence can cast on one's life. Through a blend of humor and hindsight, we explore the emotional toll on those caught in the crossfire and muse on the quirky idea of timing one's stint behind bars. From the solidarity of the bookish to the second chances post-incarceration, we cover it all with the irreverent candor you've come to expect from our trio.Support the showSounds:https://freesound.org/people/frodeims/sounds/666222/ Door openinghttps://freesound.org/people/Sami_Hiltunen/sounds/527187/ Eerie intro music https://freesound.org/people/jack126guy/sounds/361346/ Slot machinehttps://freesound.org/people/Zott820/sounds/209578/ Cash registerhttps://freesound.org/people/Exchanger/sounds/415504/ Fun Facts Jingle Thanks to The Tsunami Experiment for the theme music!!Check them out hereSUPPORT US AT https://www.buzzsprout.com/1984311/supporters/newMERCH STORE https://ol-dirty-basement.creator-spring.comFind us at the following https://oldirtybasement.buzzsprout.com WEBSITE ...

We're back! This week Drs. Ed and Evan explore haunted campuses across the country. Why aren't there any vampires at Transylvania University in Kentucky? Why are there so many ghosts at Smith College in Massachusetts (one of Dr. Evan's favorite places ever)? Is there actually a haunted dorm room at Ohio University? And do Civil War soldiers hang out with students at Gettysburg College? This is a jam packed episode!
Norwood “Buddy” Cowgill is one of the few people in Lexington today that can say that they took a company public. Buddy was born in Lexington and grew up on Chenault Road before attending Transylvania University and eventually becoming a large-scale real estate developer/owner and founder of Studio Suites Plus and Office Suites Plus. Most recently, Cowgill is developing the corner of Polo Club and Winchester Road towards a Healthcare Hub for Lexington that will serve much of the state (think where you see the Massive Baptist Health Hamburg Building going up, where UK just closed on 40 acres) On this episode, we discussed Buddy's start into real estate and how his entrepreneurial real estate mind led him towards the success of the bulk of his career, as well as how he did that from Lexington. We also discussed where he sees the trajectory of a city like Lexington going and where the next generation of entrepreneurs fits into that. At the New York Transit Museum in Brooklyn, a piece of early 1900's industrial machinery reminds visitors of a catastrophic subterranean disaster that took place beneath the east river. At the Monroe Moosnick Museum at Transylvania University in Lexington Kentucky, a medical jar containing a strange substance is the only evidence from a freak meteorological event in which meat rained from the sky. And At the Michigan Maritime Museum in South Haven Michigan, a tattered old salmon colored dress shirt is a poignant reminder of a mysterious and otherworldly aviation anomaly. For even more Mysteries at the Museum, head to discovery+. Content warning: there are mentions of abortion, incest, and rape in this episode. Advocacy is on the menu for today's episode — and to quote our Season One guest Lara Hayden in episode 13, listen up to learn how we can all “be prepared, not scared.” Sean Tipton, Chief Advocacy and Policy Officer for the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), is a fantastic resource for getting prepared. Mr. Tipton formulates and executes media and government affairs programs for ASRM, the country's leading organization for professionals involved in reproductive health care and infertility. In this role, he has worked in policy venues ranging from local zoning boards to the United Nations. Sean has degrees in political science from Transylvania University and The Ohio State University. As he says, part of his role is being a translator: explaining healthcare to policymakers and media, and explaining law and changes in policy to healthcare professionals and laypeople. So how do we “be prepared”? First, Sean says, know your rights. The First Amendment guarantees us freedom to petition our government for redress of grievances. We all have the right to complain to our elected officials when we have a genuine grievance. As Anne says, she needs a tee shirt that says, “I have legitimate grievances.” Be informed and operate from a position of knowledge. There's a lot of fear surrounding the Dobbs decision: how will it affect women's choices and health? How will it affect assisted reproduction? For legislators, it can be a minefield: they often don't really know enough to debate the topic from an informed position, and they may not know what their constituents or party will accept. Information genuinely is power. Listen carefully to language and interpretation. A lot of terms are being thrown around, sometimes by people who aren't careful or expert enough to handle those terms. Be sure you understand what someone is truly saying when they talk about reproduction, and the technology and the rights involved. Are legislators listening to the experts and passing on accurate information? If not, there may be an opportunity to challenge and educate. What has changed with the Dobbs decision? 8:51 How does personhood laws impact IVF? 13:30 How to promote access to reproductive care. 24:58 The complexity of IVF and abortion bans. 30:40 To stay informed and engage in advocacy, check out ASRM at asrm.org. Find Sean Tipton on LinkedIn (linkedin.com/in/sean-tipton) and check out his episode on the ASRM Today podcast. As always, find more from Anne and Ruby on thewholepineapple.com, and don't forget to rate, review, and share this episode with anyone who can benefit!
In the early 19th century, secret societies were having a moment. A professor at Transylvania University's Medical Department decided it would be a good idea to start one for his students. The Kentucky Chapter of the Kappa Lambda Society of Hippocrates didn't last long, but the seeds it planted spread all over the country, eventually influencing the formation of the American Medical Association. VYS0024 | Between Being Real and Not Real - Vayse to Face with Nathan Paul Isaac - Show Notes Barely able to contain their excitement, Hine and Buckley welcome to Vayse the one and only Nathan Paul Isaac, creator of the essential chronicle of high strangeness in Somerset, Kentucky, the Penny Royal podcast. Penny Royal has been a huge influence on Vayse, and Hine and Buckley geek out as the conversation goes deep, wide and weird - from discussion of Penny-Royal-favourite topics such as cybernetics and synchronicity to pondering Hansen's trickster and theories on the nature of elementals and non-human intelligence by way of terrifying stories of faceless dream entities and a firm consensus on the importance of maintaining a healthy hatred of Nazis... and to sweeten the deal even more, Nathan drops a few breadcrumbs as to what kind of weird stuff to expect from Penny Royal season 3... Recorded 6 July 2023 Thanks again to Keith for the show notes - again, we couldn't have have got this episode out on time without his help. We appreciate it! We all age differently. Some people's true age (demonstrated by the level of their biological functions) may be 20 years younger than someone else, even though they have the same chronological age. Science has advanced to the point that we can measure how well we are aging - that is, how slowly we are aging, and how “young” or “old” we truly are at any given age… Ryan Smith shares the cutting edge measurement his company TruDiagnostic is utilizing to give people the most accurate reading of our biological age.The TruAge test can inform you of how well you are aging, and this correlates highly with the possibility of you getting sick or even dying. Learn how TruAge uses DNA methylation patterns to determine numerous parameters of health, how it differs from other biological age tests, and the methods you can utilize to slow down the process of aging.Ryan Smith is founder of TruDiagnostic. He received a BA in biochemistry from Transylvania University before heading to medical school in 2013. After passing USMLE Step 1, he decided to leave and open up a pharmacy in the United States that focused on peptide synthesis and formulations for pharmaceutical preparations. That pharmacy, Tailor Made Compounding, became the 4th fastest growing company in healthcare in the US and grew to 80 million in revenue within 3 years. Through this pharmacy work, Ryan saw the value of preventative medicine. Many of the physicians Tailor Made served were treating age as a disease and a primary outcome but needed better tools to measure this process. As a result, Ryan exited Tailor Made in 2020 to create TruDiagnostic.TruDiagnostic is a CLIA certified lab and health data company which specializes in understanding and reporting insights found through Epigenetic methylation data. Since starting in 2020, TruDiagnostic has created the largest private epigenetic database in the world with over 15,000 patients tested on the EPIC850k array. From this dataset, they have created many new algorithms to interpret methylation data including algorithms to predict inflammatory markers, disease diagnosis, telomere length, aging pace, immune cell subsets, cellular replication, and more.TruDiagnostic has also led research in the field with over 30+ clinical trials investigating the best ways to reverse these markers through diet, lifestyle, and prescription interventions. Currently, TruDiagnostic is working with collaborators from Duke, Harvard, Yale, UCSF, Ohio St. and more to uncover new insights from the methylome. TruDiagnostic is also the only commercial company on the market to offer 2nd or 3rd generation aging algorithms which have shown to be more predictive and precise than 1st generation aging clocks. In addition to his work with pharmaceuticals, Ryan also consults with international pharmacies and has set up pharmacies in Thailand and Mexico. In addition, Ryan has developed novel supplements and cosmetic formulations with multiple 100M supplement brands and consults with clinics in the cash pay wellness space. To Connect With Ryan Smith:https://trudiagnostic.com/To Connect With Dr. Joy Kong:http://drjoykong.com/Watch Video Episodes on YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZj1GQBWFM5sRAL0iQfcMAQFollow Dr. Joy Kong on Social Media:https://www.instagram.com/dr_joy_kong/https://www.facebook.com/stemcelldrjoyhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/joy-kong-md-4b8627123/For more information about anti-aging regenerative medicine treatment visit:https://uplyftcenter.com *Our content is for informational purposes only and should not be treated as medical or health advice. Episode No. 5 of the Art Throb Podcast features Kris Grenier who will talk about the 7500+ miles of hiking trails she has walked and how she has captured some of these awesome landscapes into needled-felted artwork scenes. As a backpacker and ultramarathoner, Kris Grenier explores the world on foot. Her travels have taken her from the hills of Georgia to the peaks of New England and from Death Valley to Mount Whitney, the top of the contiguous United States. After returning home to her family's small farm in Harrison County, Grenier records her memories in two-dimensional wool feltings to share with others the wild places she loves. Grenier has enjoyed the opportunity to exhibit her art and passion for public lands at regional art shows, where her award-winning work has been praised for its originality and authenticity. Collectors appreciate the expressive realism of Grenier's art and note that it has a soft, familiar feeling, like a treasured memory. Having earned her BA in Environmental Studies from Transylvania University and conducted ecological research in both Lexington, Kentucky, and the White Mountains of New Hampshire, Grenier considers her role as an artist to go beyond the visual interpretation of wild lands. In galleries and festivals, Grenier enjoys sharing stories of the landscapes depicted in her work and aspires to kindle a conservation ethos in viewers. Her focus has turned to large-scale pieces that allow viewers to imagine themselves in the backcountry and evoke the grandeur of expansive natural landscapes. A juried artist in the Kentucky Crafted Program, Grenier was recently awarded a 2022 Emerging Artist Grant by the Kentucky Arts Council. Grenier's first large-scale solo exhibition, 7500+ Miles, debuted at Boyd's Station Gallery in Cynthiana earlier this year.https://wanderstruckstudio.com/

Eric Harshman has one of the most diverse resumes in the turf industry. He spent 12 years in the National Guard, then earned degrees in both graphic design and sports marketing, until finally marrying into a family golf course where he got bit by the turf bug. He went on to work for Walter Pritchett at Hurstbourne Country Club in Louisville, KY. Eric then found his way to LSU as an assistant sports turf manager. Being an avid baseball fan, with a sport marketing degree, he wanted to try a stint with the Lexington Legends, a professional minor league team. The work was great, but the hours were not very accommodating for a family man with children. Eric has now found a home as the Head Grounds Manager at Transylvania University in Lexington KY. The life of a grounds manager at a major university is not an easy one, especially with a small staff, but it has been a very enjoyable one for Eric. The University no longer has a football team, but he is responsible for the entire campus and all the sports they do have. He shares with us what it takes to manage such a large operation and how the transition has been from golf to sports turf and finally to the manager of a large university. Eric has a great reputation in the industry and his story is enjoyable for anyone who loves the turf industry.Visit EarthWorks at: https://www.earthworksturf.com Podcasts: https://www.earthworksturf.com/earthworks-podcasts/ 2 Minute Turf Talks: https://www.earthworksturf.com/2-minute-turf-talks/

February 11, 2005. FBI agents bust down the door of a cinder block house near the University of Kentucky campus. Amid flash grenades and screaming teens, they arrest three students – plus a fourth student in a nearby dorm. The crime? Stealing almost $750,000 of rare books and manuscripts from the library at Transylvania University. Why did four freshmen decide to actually go through with their real life version of Ocean's Eleven? And how did they plan to get away with it? Special thanks to our guests, BJ Gooch, retired special collections librarian; Eric Borsuk, whose memoir is called American Animals: A True Crime Memoir; and Tom Lecky, rare book and manuscript specialist. Dr. Jamie Day is a physics professor & the curator of the Monroe Moosnick Medical & Science Museum [a collection of 19th-century medical oddities & science equipment] at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky. This morbid tour through the old cabinets leads us into trepanning, electrified corpses, syphilis, phrenology, grave robbing students, a mummified child, country doctors, folk medicine hairballs & much, much more. For his personal story, Jamie describes an unnerving find in the university's storage, that of a charred, 200-year-old wax model known as an Anatomical Venus. In closing, we hear of some of the collection's wildest oddities we nearly forgot about: a figurine of a parasitic twin & a comically grotesque tobacco pipe! Betty Gail had just finished studying for a huge biology exam with some of her college classmates in Lexington, KY, when (around midnight) she headed back home to her parents' house about three miles from campus. Despite acquaintances seeing her car headed in the appropriate direction of her home, Betty Gail never made it that far. Instead, she was found just hours later, in her car, murdered. Who committed the crime is still a mystery today, 61 years later.Use my special link zen.ai/coffeeandcases and use code coffeeandcases to save 30% off your first three months of Zencastr professional. #madeonzencastr
Utilizing the dark arts, I've summoned the spirit of Constantine Rafinesque- a previous professor at my alma mater, Transylvania University. WHO ELSE HAS INTERVIEWED A GHOST? No one else. Anyway, this is an educational and poignant episode, discussing the life and times of a famous biologist, traveler, and linguist, as well as some of his realizations in the afterlife. This is especially interesting for Transy students/graduates; have you ever wondered if "the curse" is real? Listen for your answer. www.ivebeenthinkingpod.com/blog Learn more about your ad choices. Brandi starts us off with a story about a staircase in Durhan, North Carolina. To clarify: That's a staircase in Durham – not the staircase in Durham. Turns out, there's more than one staircase in Durham. Hmm. It was January of 2007, and Corey Smith was on his way to work when he spotted a woman lying at the base of a staircase near his apartment. The woman was unresponsive, so he called 911. He checked her ID and learned that her name was Denita Smith. Denita was working on her master's degree at North Carolina Central University. She'd recently completed a prestigious fellowship with the New York Times. She had no known enemies, and yet, someone had killed her. Then Kristin tells a story that's so stupid it's delightful. (Unless you ask Brandi. Brandi is very anti-heist.) During a tour of the special collections library at Transylvania University, freshman Spencer Reinhard perked up when the tour guide showed off the library's set of John Hames Audubon's “Birds of America.” The librarian told the group that a set had recently sold for $12 million. Spencer was intrigued. The special collections room evidently held valuable books, guarded by almost no security. And now for a note about our process. For each episode, Kristin reads a bunch of articles, then spits them back out in her very limited vocabulary. Brandi copies and pastes from the best sources on the web. And sometimes Wikipedia. (No shade, Wikipedia. We love you.) We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the real experts who covered these cases. In this episode, Kristin pulled from: “Majoring in Crime,” by John Falk for Vanity Fair “Secrets of the Transy Book Heist,” episode of Super Heists “Four charged in Transy book heist,” by Andy Mead and Cassondra Kirby for the Lexington Herald-Leader “Librarian: Emotional scars remain,” by Beth Musgrave for the Lexington Herald-Leader “Wrong-way gang,” by Gary Thompson for the Philadelphia Inquirer “Transy thieves took names from film,” by Beth Musgrave for the Lexington Herald-Leader “College caper appeal backfires, robbers to get even more time,” by Martha Neil for the ABA Journal “Sentence stands in Transy book theft,” by Brandon Ortiz for the Lexington Herald-Leader In this episode, Brandi pulled from: “Internal Affairs” episode Dateline “Shannon Crawley” episode Snapped “Denita Smith” chillingcrimes.com “Shannon Elizabeth Crawley” murderpedia.org “State of North Carolina v.
