Six teenagers, desperate to depart from their unhappy lives in Kentucky, got together to travel to New Orleans, Louisiana. The car they were in wasn't going to make the whole trip. The teenagers agreed they may need to hijack a car from a random parking lot or a car dealership. Instead, they saw a van at a rest area and pulled in. This van belonged to the Lillelid family who never would have expected what would happen next.Promo: Black True CrimeThank you to BetterHelp for sponsoring the podcast!Get 10% off of your first month of online therapy at https://www.BetterHelp.com/Reverie because YOU deserve it.Sources:https://caselaw.findlaw.com/tn-court-of-criminal-appeals/1125608.htmlhttps://www.wjhl.com/news/man-convicted-as-teen-in-lillelid-murders-sentence-challenge-delayed/ http://www.supertalk929.com/2020/01/31/convicted-killer-in-lillelid-murder-case-preps-request-for-release/ https://ways-to-die.com/lillelid-murders/ https://pjmedia.com/blog/pjmedia-2/2007/02/10/ten-year-anniversary-of-the-lillelid-murders-n23542 https://casetext.com/case/mullins-v-state-178 https://murderpedia.org/female.C/c/cornett-natasha.htm https://www.greenevillesun.com/news/peter-lillelid-is-a-happy-little-boy-3-years-after-murders-of-his-family/article_0084808f-09e5-5d91-afd0-002e70c8c03d.htmlhttps://truecrimedaily.com/2017/03/28/convicted-murders-ask-for-forgiveness-in-1997-lillelid-murders/ https://apnews.com/article/323cf037b603d14f52c8c80cca3b76e5 https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-xpm-1997-04-14-9704140113-story.html https://scotblog.org/2017/04/jason-bryant-statement-on-recent-coverage-regarding-lillelid-murders/ https://mycrimelibrary.com/natasha-cornett-teen-killer-lillelid-murders/ https://www.wymt.com/content/news/20-years-later-Lillelid-murder-case-still-on-the-minds-of-many-418586933.html https://www.crimetraveller.org/2017/04/the-lillelid-murders-20-years-on/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lillelid_murders https://www.knoxnews.com/story/news/crime/2017/04/02/lillelid-murders-haunt-east-tennessee-20-years-later/99876020/ https://www.knoxnews.com/story/news/crime/2017/12/27/lillelid-killer-karen-howell-still-fighting-freedom/974898001/ https://medium.com/dark-aberrations/the-lillelid-family-massacre-d93e641a01ee https://www.greenevillesun.com/news/local_news/lillelid-defendant-plans-clemency-request/article_5f220dc4-dedc-5a59-ac45-0c22448d43fd.html https://www.johnsoncitypress.com/news/crime/lillelid-murders-tennessee-prisoner-sentenced-to-life-at-15-asks-for-freedom/article_7565d6ae-dc53-5816-a7a5-280817743a12.html https://wcyb.com/news/tennessee-news/convicted-murderers-ask-for-forgiveness-in-1997-lillelid-murders https://www.wbir.com/article/news/crime/20-years-later-evil-killing-of-powell-family-resonates/428998778 https://www.wvlt.tv/content/news/Tenn-Supreme-Court-clarification-could-lead-to-parole-for-Lillelid-murderers--502198411.html https://www.timesnews.net/news/local-news/cornetts-attorney-breaks-silence-on-lillelid-murder-case/article_8114d460-703a-5b50-be20-5905c40f43f4.html https://www.wate.com/news/tennessee/tenn-supreme-court-clarification-could-lead-to-parole-for-lillelid-murderers/
The Lillelid family murders is known as one of the most brutal cases in East Tennessee. This case blew up in the media with headlines like "I'm Satan's Daughter" and "The Vampire Cult Killings". Along a quiet, gravel road in East Tennessee, a group of six Kentuckians, ranging in age between 14 and 20, on their way to New Orleans to start over, would kidnap and murder a young Christian family. Media, attorneys, family members, and even true crime aficionados would argue about the circumstances and motives surrounding the horrific crime for decades. Were the murders a result of a fascination with devil worshipping and the occult? Or was this a simple case of teenagers who were never loved enough or given a fair chance in life who made a series of bad choices?
