Play With It is a podcast that discusses topics relating to enjoying and collecting toys and board games. We let our nerd flag fly and bring you news and commentary on upcoming and newly released action figures and board games that we are excited to share and spread the word to our listeners.
Hey Everyone! New episode coming at you and it hasn't been two months! You can't see it but we are patting ourselves on the back for this achievement. This was a really fun one- it isn't in the title but Noah has a great story about an encounter he has at Target and Carl reveals he used to be into yo-yos. After running off the rails, we talk about Wizards of the Coast's announcement of bringing in different intellectual properties into the Magic: The Gathering game such as Lord of the Rings and Warhammer 40K. Then, we talk about our thoughts of the Spawn figure from McFarlane Toys' Kickstarter and give our thoughts on it as a whole. Thank you all for listening and don't forget to play with it!
Hey everyone, new episode here and we are going to try and release more frequently ( albeit a little shorter length.. but size dosed matter right?) on a roughly twice a month schedule. This is on a trial basis so we will see how the first month shapes up and go from there. On this episode we talk about the recently revealed Batman 89 comic book series that will continue the "Burtonverse" after the events of Batman Returns. Then we talk about how we are super excited for the Batman Forever Hot Toys figures and how Robin's cloth is crazy huge on that figure. Lastly, we talk about Super7 teasing the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Ultimates Wave 5 figures and make a guess at the 4th figure reveal. At the time of the recording it hadn't been revealed so feel free to laugh at how wrong we are about of opinions! Thanks to all of you that have subscribed and feel free to reach out to us on our socials or email. Instagram: playwithitpodcastshow Twitter: @playwithitpod Email: mail@playwithitpodcast.com
Hey Everyone! This episode is a bit more casual than usual. Noah and Carl discuss their recent action figure acquisitions and talk about how everything collectable it going crazy on the secondary market, particularly the old Marvel trading cards we used to have as kids. I guess we are at that age now where everything we used to enjoy and now take for granted is worth tons of money? In this episode, I talk about a Youtube channel that I found really interesting regarding the Marvel trading card boom and couldn't remember the name. The name of the channel is NE Ohio Sports Cards and here is the link to the channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/demay99 Thanks to you all for listening and we are hoping we can get a consistent rhythm to our releases but no promises. This podcast is a passion project but it takes a back seat when life starts to complicate things. Don't forget to PLAY WITH IT!
Hey Everyone! We are still alive- we have been pretty busy so we apologize for the delay in episode releases but the good news is that we should be free and clear for a more stable release schedule. Thank you all for your continued support! This was a really fun episode to get us back into the groove. The first thing we cover is how we stumbled onto Toy Story Erotic Fan Fiction and even have a clip of our zoom call where we discovered this crazy piece of "literature". After that, we discuss how our collecting habits have started to snowball into collecting 1/6 scale figures and how we probably need professional help to kick this nasty habit. Lastly, we discuss Fantasy Flight Games' new upcoming completely app-driven game Descent: Legends of the Dark and how our original argument about it almost ended our friendship! ( Not really but we were mad at each other for a day or two). We discuss why it is different from other games and what you should know before you purchase. Thank you all again for all of the support through out this dumpster fire of a year and we are really excited for 2021!
Hey Everybody! Sorry that this episode is a little later than normal but we have a great lineup this time around. First, we share a story from one of our fans where he recounts an over-spending story for us and we discuss our thoughts. We also answer a fan question as well as open it up for you to send us questions that we can answer on the podcast in the future. Our first Makor topic is our thoughts of Hasbro's recent PulseCon event where they held online panels to unveil their new toys from all of their various brands. We cover some personal stand-outs from Dungeons & Dragons, Star Wars, Transformers, G.I Joe, and others. Of course, there are plenty of hot takes to go around. After covering all the toys, we discuss one of our favorite games, HeroQuest and the upcoming reprint that Hasbro launched as a crowdfunding campaign. This game is near and dear to Noah's heart and as such, he has some strong feelings about this and we unpack it all. The campaign as successfully funded and will be running until November 2020 so head over to their site and support if it is something that is for you! Welcome to Episode 11 of Play With It Podcast! On this episode, we cover a lot of ground. First, we talk about some new and upcoming games that are really cool entries into some of the most popular gaming properties. We talk about the new Pokemon Battle Academy board game that brings the trading card game into a more controlled environment in a board game format. Next, we chat about the upcoming Dungeons and Dragons Adventure Begins game that is a great starting point for people interested in dabbling into the D&D world. The cool part about it is that it passes the role of Dungeon Master each turn to the different players. Seems like a great option for family game night or a drunken evening with gang. Thanks to the pandemic, all cool events have been cancelled but it didn't stop toy companies from revealing new products and, for the first time, offering their exclusives for San Diego Comic Con to the general public via online orders. We highlight our favorite figures and also go into what we would like to call "Preordermegeddon". With an unprecedented set of circumstances this time around, the toy preorders have been plagued with near-instant sellouts and leaving all of us out in the cold- all of the while scalpers are throwing these item up on eBay for unspeakable amounts of money. We go over some of our experiences and take on the situation. On a more positive note, we watched the online panel for Power-Con, the Masters of the Universe convention, and really enjoyed the unveiling of the next waves from Mattel's Origins line and the announcement of the upcoming 7" figure line. Pixel Dan moderated the panel and it is so great to see a company like Mattel embrace someone like Dan and really utilize his expertise to make the Masters of the Universe toy lines be the best they can be. We cover the highlights and what we are looking forward to in this toy line. We want to thank you for listening to us and ask that you subscribe to our podcast- it is the best way to support us so we can get our voices into as many people's ears as possible. You are all the best and don't forget to PLAY WITH IT!
Hey everyone- this is our 10th episode! We made it out of the single digits and we are feeling great. For a little toy news, we talk about Hasbro's new line of 6" G.I. Joe figures and how we are feeling about them now that they are out in the wild. We also talk about the issues with the exclusive preorder for Cobra Commander that didn't go so well. This show is really special because we finally go in depth about Noah's toy making. He has been producing small-batch toys under the name Grim Dork Toys for a couple of years now and we share his journey into resin toy making as well as what he has his sights set on for the future. Links to his website and Instagram are below. Be sure to show him so love. We also talk about some of our favorite designer toy makers and hope that you get a chance to look into their art. A lot of work goes into their creation and there is something for everyone in the art toy world. Instagram links to the artists we discuss are below so you can see their art and follow them. Next, we read a press release from CMON games announcing that they are working on a Masters of the Universe board game. This was too perfect to pass up talking about it and of course, we have different things to say about it. Since there is a lack of details on the game, we get to form opinions without facts which is fun! Lastly, we talk about a promotion where you can get a couple really cool stickers from us just by going to Apple Podcasts, giving us a 5 star review and a couple of sentences saying you like the show, and then emailing us at mail@playwithitpodcast.com giving us the handle you used to write the review and your address to get the stickers! A pure win win fun us all. Check out or Instagram for pictures of these sweet custom stickers- one is sparkly! Welcome to Episode 9 everyone! First of all, we just want to let you all know how we are thinking of you all during this pandemic. We hope everyone is safe and healthy and want to thank all of the essential workers out there keeping the world running and of course our first responders, nurses, and doctors that are saving lives while working extremely hard to take care of us. Thanks for that. First topic of discussion is the Spawn action figure Kickstarter that Todd McFarlane launched earlier this month on April 8th. He talked at Toy Fair this year about how he wanted to pay tribute to the original Spawn toy line that he put out in the early 90's and this is his chance to give us a "remastered" version of the original Spawn figure from that line. It has been really successful and we talk about our thoughts on the campaign. There is one week left to pledge at the time of this release so you have a chance to get in on it. The main event here is our very first interview! We had the opportunity to chat with artist and toy sculptor David Arshawsky who had a hand in many of the toys we played with as kids and now collect as adults. We are huge Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toy fans and love the Toxic Crusaders action figure lines that Playmates released in the late 80's and early 90's so to get the chance to speak to an artist that sculpted and designed these toys we love was an incredible experience. We hope you enjoy our chat with David and we encourage you to take a look at his current works and maybe stop by his Instagram page or his Patreon to show him some love. He was a true joy to talk to and we look forward to keeping in touch with his current projects. Welcome to Episode 8 everyone! This episode is a special one and different from our segmented platform so that we can bring you something that we had a lot of fun putting together. With Kickstarter and other crowdfunding sites becoming a large piece of the board game industry and have shaped how games come to market, we have enjoyed sharing some of our favorite upcoming games periodically so that you can be on the look out for some really cool games the are in development. With this episode, we decided to share some crowdfunding board games that didn't quite hit the mark and discuss some of the obvious reasons we think they may not have been successful. We cover four crowdfunding campaigns that were pretty clear from the start that they were going to be an uphill battle and we use clips from their campaign pitch videos to unpack what their intentions were and maybe shed light on on them while providing some much earned teasing. To keep from spoiling the fun, we won't go into too much detail but we cover campaigns that had everything from a Kickstarter that just didn't want to tell the backers ANYTHING about the game they were making to a game that would have an online gaming community that promised top prizes like a Ferrari! Take a listen and enjoy some of these wild rides with us. While we may poke fun at some of these outlandish ideas, it comes from a place of love and appreciate people reaching for their dreams! And don't forget to Play With It!
Hey everyone! In this episode, we talk about the recent unveils at Toy Fair 2020! This year was jammed packed with awesome toys for display so Noah and I cover our favorites. We could have made a ten episode saga of four hour podcasts that covered EVERYTHING but we will save you all from that and give you our highlights. First off, we cover some new figures from Mezco Toys in their One:12 Collective line which is their flagship adult collector figures that come with tons of accessories, different heads and hands, as well as real cloth and materials for their costumes! First up, we talk about their exclusive 1989 Tim Burton Batman figure they put up recently on their site. As a huge fan of the movie and my favorite Batman, I fanboy really hard on this. At Toy Fair, they showed their new Two-Face and Mr. Freeze figures so we discuss or feelings on those ( spoiler: they are great!) Next, we talk about the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles figures that NECA showed off both from the 90's movie as well as the Cartoon. Both of these figure lines are hugely popular and these are the next waves coming out this year. The other thing that NECA had to show off that should get more attention is their upcoming prop replicas from Both Batman the Animated Series AND 1989 Batman movie. You can imagine my delight and I discuss my plans to buy a bunch of batarangs and throw them all over the house Hasbro has a crazy amount to show off from there 40th Anniversary Empire Strikes Back figures from their Black Series line, their resurrection of GI Joe as a toy line, and even reproductions of the Real Ghostbusters figures that Kenner released back in the 80's. We discuss our thoughts and I completely blank on Sigourney Weaver's character, Dana Barrett and look like an idiot but I SWEAR I like the 1984 movie and can't wait for the 6" figures they have coming out. Lastly, we gush super hard on Super7's upcoming line of TMNT figures from their Ultimates line! These things are going to make us go broke so listen to the episode to hear us tell you why they are so friggin sweet. As always, email us at mail@playwithitpodcast.com and give us some feedback and tell us some stories we can share on the podcast! And remember kids, don't forget to Play With It!
Hey everyone! This episode it PACKED with stuff and it is extra long as a result. 30% more for free! We have a little bit of Toy News and a bunch of board game news from current Kickstarter campaigns recently launched. We even debut our new jingle I made for our Kickstarter board game news segment after Noah constantly hounded me about it. Lets get into it shall we: We start with talking about McFarlane Toys dropping their new DC Comics Multiverse figures this month and our hot takes on them ( spoiler alert- I like them a lot!). As for the board game news, we cover three recent Kickstarter campaigns that we can't wait to talk about for various reasons. The first game we cover is Grendha: Search for Lost Triumphs by Doptale Interactive. This is their first board game and you can tell they are putting a lot of work into this launch with their pre-launch website https://www.grendhaboardgame.com/ and their social media presence. This is a small company and we want to support independent designers and companies when we can. The second game we discuss is Return to Dark Tower by Restoration games. Isaac Childres and Rob Daviau team up to make this epic fantasy game where the players work together to defeat and giant, bluetooth app-enabled tower! Lastly, we talk about the saga that was Beyond the Monolith, the recently cancelled project by Monolith games, the company that brought us Conan and Batman: Gotham City Chronicles. These guys designed a whole new board game system and were met with several challenges that ultimately resulted in the cancellation. Noah unpacks the whole series of events for everyone. We want to thank everyone for listening- we have been getting some really great feedback and want you to reach out if you have any feedback for us. mail@playwithitpodcast.com Don't forget to play with it
Happy Holidays Everyone! We wanted to release a special episode for everyone to enjoy over your winter break! First, we talk about our must watch Christmas movies such as Home Alone and others. Then we gush about the fantastic Star Wars show, The Mandalorian on Disney Plus, and the cool toys that will be coming out next year. We all want a Baby Yoda...except for Noah? Next we discuss how I stayed up to order the Lego 1989 Batmobile at Midnight to make sure I got one and some details about how cool it is. For Festivus, we share our grievances ( Noah has many more than I do apparently) and we close out the episode with some of our favorite Christmas morning memories. We want to thank all of you for listening to us and we have had a blast creating these episodes for all of you. We are available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeart Media, and others so go on over and spend your holidays with us. Spend time with people you love this season and don't forget to play with it!
Welcome to Episode 4 everyone! Just a little disclaimer, this episode was the last one recorded prior to our launch so you will hear Noah giving me some serious razzing for not having our podcasts posted yet be we all know now that we are really cookin' now! In this episode, I admit to finally succumbing to the Star Wars Black Series figures and what I have decided to start with. I also mention a surprise about one of my recent pickups that I didn't see coming! We also cover a recently ended Kickstarter board game by a new company, Shadowborne Games, called Oathsworn: Into the Deepwood. We give our thoughts and share are varied opinions on this up and coming game. At the time of this posting, it looks like the pledge manager will be releasing very soon so get in there with you late pledge if it is up your alley! Next up, we talk about the new Hasbro crowdfunded Giant Transformers Unicron figure that is a whopping 27" tall and we also mention the current trend of releasing and crowdfunding these huge premium toys for the ultra premium collector and how we feel about it. Lastly, I discuss the fact that I have wanted the Crossfire board game since childhood and Noah thinks it is better left in the past. Thanks for listening and I botched the call to action at the end of this but left it in because it was really funny to me. you can find us on Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Spotify, Stitcher and others! Feel free to email us with praise and comments at mail@playwithitpodcast.com. Not whatever crap I said in the episode ( I admitted that I should have prepared for that better!) Thanks again and PLAY WITH IT!
New and improved show format!! This time around, we are going with a segmented format so that we can cover more ground in each episode. If we don’t make rules for ourselves, we will end up with a nine hour podcast on Kingdom Death: Monster or my love for Batman and that wouldn’t be fun. This time around, we talk toy news and cover Hasbro’s announcement regarding reducing their usage of plastics in their packaging. A noble effort that we support but will probably prove to be a challenge with some possible neat solutions- they should put us on the payroll for all of our awesome ideas. We also cover some new and upcoming toy releases such as the Marvel Legends Storm figure in her sweet iconic white costume and killer retro cardback. We also look forward to next year’s MAFEX Batman figures from Jim Lee’s HUSH series and the legendary Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns graphic novel. They look killer and we can’t wait to get ahold of them. As for board games, we talk about the rerelease of the Dune board game which has a cult following and this edition by Gale Force 9 has some great contemporary artwork and some updates that should really make a game night to remember. NOTE: this was recorded prior to release of the game so we had less information to work with at that time so keep that in mind. Additionally, we talk about The 7th Continent, a game by Serious Poulp based in France, coming to retail and our bittersweet reaction to this news and our excitement for Themeborne’s recently successful Kickstarter campaign for Escape the Dark Sector. This sophomore release builds on the feel and mechanics of Escape the Dark Castle and adds more depth while keeping the retro "choose your own adventure" spirit that we love. We want to thank you all for listening and really feel like we have hit on something with this new segmented format. We may have spotlight episodes for things we just can’t shut up about, but we think this will be the wave of the future for us. Feel free to email us at mail@playwithitpodcast.com and tell us what you think and what games or toys you are most looking forward to as well.
On this episode, we cover some board games that we have been currently playing and give you an overview of Arkham Horror the Card game, a game by Fantasy Flight Games, that is set in a Lovecraftian world where you play as an investigator and work cooperatively to find clues, fight monsters, and save the world! We also attempt to explain a mammoth of a game that is legendary in the Kickstarter board game scene- Kingdom Death: Monster by Adam Poots games. This horror fantasy is a gigantic campaign-based game consisting of three phases of play that come together to unravel your story of survivors that begin with practically nothing to survive the nightmare world you find yourself in. You hunt and fight gruesome monsters and use their resources to build a settlement where you grow and advance your survivors before the element of this dangerous world claims everyone in your settlement. We want to thank you for checking us out and we hope you stick around and hang with us while we give each other a hard time and discuss toys, board games, and other stuff we should have outgrown. Hit that subscribe button and take this journey with us using your favorite podcast delivery service. Feel free to email us at mail@playwithitpodcast.com and tell us if you have played these games we’ve covered what what you thought about them.
Welcome to our first podcast episode! Here on Play WIth It, we discuss toy collecting and board games as adults..well, almost adults. On this inaugural show we reminisce about action figures that meant something to us growing up. Being children of the 90’s, we chat about action figures we had or wish we had from Transformers to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Come join us and share with us the toys you loved as a kid.
