Based on a 60s television show of the same name, The Man from UNCLE attempts to merge the cool of James Bond with real-world Cold War era politics. The results are mixed. Directed by Guy Ritchie, it has all the hallmarks of one of his films—quippy banter, smooth action beats, and heroes that ooze charisma. Well, one of the heroes is charismatic. And it's not the one who allegedly is into cannibalism. Henry Cavill is the engine that drives The Man from UNCLE. And just like his turn in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, he proves he's got the chops to be both comedic and badass. Sadly, audiences never gave this one a chance. On a budget of $75 million, it grossed just north of $110 million. That wasn't nearly enough to warrant the sequel they teased. Now, sit back, stay incognito with a Lord Grey from Three Taverns, and never trust a Nazi scientist! The Thunderous Wizard, Chumpzilla, and Bling Blake are enjoying some fine cheese and red wine while Mayor McCheese evades the goons! This Week's Segments: Introduction/Plot Breakdown – Two sworn enemies ... one common mission! Lingering Questions – How did Cavill never get a crack at Bond? (31:33) The "UNCLE" Trivia Challenge – Bling Blake challenges the field to trivia about the movie. (50:15) Recommendations – We offer our picks for the week and next up: We conclude Flopbusters with the woeful Stephen King adaptation, The Dark Tower! (58:54) And, as always, hit us up on Threads, X, Facebook, Bluesky, or Instagram to check out all the interesting factoids from this week's episode!

Vi pratar om filmer som Carrie, The Shining, Dead Zone, The Mist, The Money, The Lawnmover Man, Salem´s Lot, Firestarter, The Running Man, Dr. Sleep, Maximum Overdrive, The Green Mile, Geralds Game, Misery, IT, Cujo, Pet Sematary, Shawshank Redemption, Sleepwalkers, Dark Tower och många fler.
Isaiah's Commission, as described in Isaiah chapter 6, details his vision of God's holiness and his subsequent call to ministry. This experience impacted Isaiah, leading him to acknowledge his unworthiness and, ultimately, to volunteer for God's service. God asks, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?". Isaiah responds, "Here am I. Send me!".In this episode, I'm joined by Nate Chavoya from the Reality Czars podcast. We talked about his awakening and beginnings in the Pentecostal Church, simulated reality vs holographic reality, living in a demiurge soul trap, fake reality, Plato's Allegory of the Cave, Wheel of Time series, The Dark Tower series, he shares the story of his near death experience, Bob's Fine Cars Eureka, CA, saving babies, forgoing new pathways, controlling the matrix, Blue Shirt Guy from Free Guy, the Parable of Talents, seizing opportunities, the neural network brain, fractals of Source, God's breath, Hearts in Atlantis, Matthew13: 14-16, growing limbs and performing miracles through prayer, psychokinesis, Jesus the bouncer, radical obedience, being an ambassador for Christ, Ephesians 3:20, Isaiah 6 - Isaiah's Commission, and synchronicities as a blessings as a reward.
The Dark Tower Series: Part I - Of Waystation & Doors Review:Welcome to Out from the Horrorbox! With your gunslinging host Dom Higuera! In this episode, we take a look at the first two novels in The Dark Tower series, The Gunslinger and The Drawing of the Three! The Man in Black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed. So begins Book I of Stephen King's iconic fantasy series, The Dark Tower. Part sci-fi novel, part futuristic dystopia, part spaghetti Western, and part high fantasy, The Gunslinger tells the story of Roland Deschain, Mid-World's last gunslinger, who is tracking an enigmatic magician known only as the man in black. Following his quarry across the demon-infested Mohaine Desert, Roland confronts a mad preacher woman and her murderous flock, holds palaver with a speaking demon, and finally befriends a young boy from our world named Jake Chambers. Jake joins Roland on his quest, but while Roland travels with his young companion Jake, the man in black travels with Roland's soul in his pocket. After his final confrontation with the Man in Black, an exhausted Roland awakes on the beach of the Western Sea and is immediately attacked by a shoreline monster known as a lobstrosity. Roland kills the clawed creature, but not before it bites off two of his fingers and half of one big toe. Fighting off the delirium brought on by the lobstrosity's poison, Roland forces himself along the beach where he discovers three freestanding doorways that lead into our world. The first says The Prisoner. The second says The Woman of Shadows. The third says The Pusher. Roland's task is to make gunslingers out of the first two individuals from the doors before the Pusher can commit a bloody killing spree.Let's open up the Horrorbox and find out what's inside! We're finally on the path of The Beam. The Dark Tower Readalong reaches the land of wonder and ruination, in Book 3, The Waste Lands. Accompanied by Nat and Chris, we battle the great bear, get dirty in the speaking ring, and brave the streets of Lud. But we also have the first quake in our Ka-tet, when Chris offers the most egregiously wrong opinion that anyone could offer on these books. You may agree with him… but if you do, we have a problem. I have never cursed or yelled so much on this show before!! Nonetheless, we have fun, we push on, and we're still friends (just about). Enjoy! Hello and welcome back to the Constant Reader Podcast, with me Richard Sheppard. Thanks for your kind words about my last interview with James Michels, author of the Melody of Shattered Gold, which is now available on amazon. It's well worth picking up, the ending is a real gut punch, and the journey is a wild ride. Speaking of wild rides, today we are going to be looking at the third volume in King's Dark Tower Series, the Wastelands. If i complained last time that the Drawing of the Three didn't really have Roland and ka-tet travelling very far, this volume more than makes up for it. It begins with Roland and Jake chambers fixing the psychic rupture caused by Roland abandoning Jake in the Gunslinger, and then going back to fix it by killing Jake's assassins Jack Mort. It then moves on to the journey to the City of Lud, caught in a Civil War. This is resolved in apocalyptic fashion and the group barely manage to escape the cataclysm on a sentient, suicidal monorail. Heady stuff, and I am honored and privileged as always to have the first lady of Stephen King podcasters, Kim C herself, with me on the quest for the Dark Tower. Kim is a university lecturer in creative writing, who has been educating and entertaining the Stephen King fanbase for a while now with her podcast, The Year of Underrated Stephen King and it's patreon, the Danse Macabre

After years and years and YEARS of development The Dark Tower finally made it to the big screen. Was it worth the wait? Absolutely Not! The story considered by some to be Stephen King's magnum opus ended up being a rushed, confusing adaptation that didn't please critics or fans of the source material. What went wrong? Let's talk about it!

The Ka-tet picks up exactly where we left off: on the beaches of Midworld, with Roland Deschain. (If none of that makes any sense to you, go listen to episode one of the Dark Tower Deep Dive immediately) Nat Cassidy, Chris Panatier and I gather for a long, philosophical, expletive-littered conversation about Book 2: The Drawing of the Three. We get further into the character of Roland and his quest, and spend some time with the gaggle of oddballs he meets along his scenic tour of the coast. The seafood is particularly tasty! It's good to be talking Tower again. Enjoy. Welcome back to the Constant reader Podcast, and thanks for bearing with us during our long hiatus. We have gathered up quite a few of our favorite repeat guests for 2025 though, so i am sure you will forgive us. We have lined up Kim C from the year of underrated Stephen King podcast with another step towards the Dark Tower. The gentlemen from King Con will be giving a report on how their convention on Stephen King, the first of its type, went back in October, and what you might expect from them in the future. Plus Andy Stanton will be back to help me sort out the End of the World As We Know It, the upcoming short story collection based in the world of King's The Stand. Plus we have some new guests, including some big names I can't reveal just yet. Today's guest is one those old friends, James Michels. James was on the show a couple of years ago to talk about The Shawshank Redemption, his own work in the prison industry, and his career as crime writer. We discussed a series of short stories, Life's Dark Corners, that i urge you to seek out. Today however, he is here to discuss The Melody of Shattered Glass, an ambitious epic novel that depicts the fates of the Oro crime family, one of the last bastions of a mafia that is struggling to identify exactly what it is, and what it stands for in the 21st century. But first, James wanted to talk about Stand by Me, Rob Reiner's adaptation of King's novella The Body. It features an incredible cast, a killer soundtrack, a sharp script and has meant a lot of things to a lot of people.I refer to his new book as The Melody of Shattered Glass, when it is, in fact The Melody of Shattered Gold. A thousand apologies to James for misnaming this book, which has an incredible ending and unforgettable characters.....

What elements go into a good game focused on wilderness survival and exploration? Chris and Andy discuss, but not before a few detours to talk about Stephen King’s Dark Tower series and The Wizard of Oz.
Do we all really want George's Vision? Or are we just saying that because its cool now? Is an Elden Ring movie coming? Will Fable release in 2026? I'm not really sure, but we do know the Wonder Woman game is no longer happening. With 007's future now in flux, Harry Potter's is more certain. The MCU changes some dates, and the DCU wipes one of the slate.

Here is the first Let Us Palaver minisode – in which Nat Cassidy and I kick Chris off the call, and get to grips with the inner workings of The Dark Tower, without spoiling anything for him, or any of you on your first trip through these books. If you still listen after this spoiler warning and the two I give in the first few minutes of the episode… well, you only have yourself to blame. But for seasoned ‘slingers. I hope this is fun. Welcome back to Not A Bomb! This is the podcast where we explore some of cinema's biggest box failures and decide if they deserve a second chance. Unfortunately, Troy and Brad must say goodbye to the McConaughthon as our month dedicated to the one and only Matthew McConaughey comes to an end. In this week's episode, the guys discuss a film that was meant to launch a multi-media extravaganza. However, its lackluster box office performance and critical reception prevented it from getting off the ground. The gang examines The Dark Tower, which is loosely based on Stephen King's novel series of the same name. While the movie offers a simplified take on the books, does it motivate viewers to dive into the series? How many Stephen King Easter eggs can one film contain? Can Idris Elba rescue this aimless journey? Tune in to find out! The Dark Tower is directed by Nikolaj Arcel and stars Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey, Tom Taylor, Claudia Kim, Fran Kranz, Abbey Lee, and Jackie Earle Haley. Head over to the Not A Bomb Tee Public store and check them out. Special thanks to Ted Blair for the amazing designs! We're committed to hearing your feedback and suggestions. If there's a cinematic flop you'd like us to delve into, please reach out to us at NotABombPod@gmail.com or through our contact page. Your reviews and feedback are what drive us. Richard Isanove has colored so many big projects over the years, it's dizzying. He started out as an animation student, first in Paris, then in California. While on the West Coast, he was hired by Brian Haberlin as Top Cow's staff colorist and eventual art director. From there, it was on to Marvel, where he brought his exacting eye to big titles like Daredevil: Father, Wolverine: Origin, Marvel 1602, and the Stephen King adaptation, The Dark Tower. Along the way, Richard's done his share of illustrating and painting, primarily in later issues of The Dark Tower. He also wrote and drew Savage Wolverine: Wrath. Now, he's back with his old pal Joe Quesada, coloring the lead book Disciple for Joe's new Amazing Comics imprint. You can follow Richard on Facebook and Instagram @richard.isanove. ____________________Check out a video version of this episode on our YouTube channel: youtube.com/dollarbinbandits.If you like this podcast, please rate, review, and subscribe on Apple Podcasts. “The man in black fled across the desert, and the podcaster followed…” Welcome to the start of what is sure to be an epic journey. Step by step, over more than a dozen episodes, Talking Scared will be following the beam all the way to the Dark Tower – that mad edifice at the heart of Stephen King's opus. Maybe it's the heart of every story ever told… time will tell. Unlike Roland Deschain, I don't go alone. I'm joined by author and fellow King-nut, Nat Cassidy (Mary, Nestlings, When the Wolf Comes Home) and absolute newbie, Chris Panatier (The Phlebotomist, The Redemption of Morgan Bright) and in this first ever episode we tussle with the tricky, dusty, thorny opening that is Book One: The Gunslinger. What follows dives deep into the book, but is 100% spoiler free about anything beyond it. So if you've only read The Gunslinger, you're good to go. I hope you enjoy our wanderings. I hope you tinct. I hope you darkle. Other books mentioned: On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft (2000), by Stephen King It (1986), by Stephen King The Jerusalem Man (1988), by David Gemmell The Book of the New Sun (series, 1980-1987), by Gene Wolfe Support Talking Scared on Patreon Come talk books on Twitter @talkscaredpod, on Instagram, or email direct to talkingscaredpod@gmail.com Learn more about your ad choices. On this week's episode, the guys kick things off by diving into a lively discussion about Joe's recent completion of the thrilling adventure game Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. This cinematic experience has left Joe buzzing with excitement, as he shares his thoughts on the game's intricate plot, stunning visuals, and the nostalgic elements that are a hallmark of the Indiana Jones franchise. Following this, Cody chimes in with his own cinematic journey, recounting his decision to rewatch the critically acclaimed science fiction film Interstellar. This leads to a fascinating conversation about the varying quality of content available on AppleTV compared to other streaming platforms, as they analyze the differences in production values, storytelling techniques, and overall viewer engagement that each platform offers. As the conversation unfolds, Joe drops a surprising piece of news on Cody: Cillian Murphy, known for his captivating performances, will not be reprising his role in the highly anticipated first installment of the new 28 Years Later movie trilogy. This revelation sparks a spirited debate about the implications of casting decisions in film franchises and how they can impact audience expectations and the overall narrative arc. The guys then pivot to an intriguing topic that has been on the minds of many film enthusiasts: the conspicuous absence of news regarding a new James Bond movie since MGM's acquisition by Amazon. They explore the potential reasons behind this silence, considering the complexities of studio politics, the impact of the pandemic on film production schedules, and the shifting landscape of cinematic storytelling in a post-pandemic world. In an unexpected twist, Cody leads Joe down an exciting new path that delves into the expansive universe of The Dark Tower series, which has captivated readers for decades. This discussion seamlessly transitions into a conversation about Stephen King's collaboration with Peter Straub on the novel Black House. They dissect the themes, characters, and the intricate connections to the broader mythology that King has crafted throughout his works. To wrap up the episode on a thought-provoking note, Cody shares insights about another of Stephen King's gripping novels, The Long Walk. He elaborates on the novel's dystopian themes, its exploration of human endurance, and the moral dilemmas faced by its characters. This closing discussion leaves listeners with much to ponder about the nature of storytelling and the profound impact of King's literary contributions.Official Website: https://www.comesnaturallypodcast.comOfficial Merchandise: https://shop.spreadshirt.com/comes-naturally-podcast/iTunes: http://tinyurl.com/kqkgackFacebook: http://tinyurl.com/myovgm8Tumblr: http://tinyurl.com/m7a6mg9Twitter: @ComesNaturalPodYouTube: http://tiny.cc/5snxpy
