Rodney Marks was only 32, but he had already earned so much respect as an astrophysicist. And he took his work seriously, signing up for multiple long stints at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole station, run by the National Science Foundation. A job assignment like this one was not for the faint of heart as it required working more than half a year in darkness and in an environment of such extreme temperatures that even a plane couldn't land because its fuel would freeze. It also meant months of complete isolation from the outside world; so, when Rodney Marks fell ill, there were limited resources. When he died on May 12, 2000, it would be over five months before his body could be removed from the Antarctic continent and an autopsy performed. A full seven months after Marks passed away, autopsy results revealed the biggest shock of all—he had been poisoned. This week we are joined by Richard, co-host of both Private Dicks and Unethical podcasts. Mirror Dark Sector Solution of the Hubble Tension with Time-varying Fine-structure Constant by John Zhang et al. on Wednesday 30 November We explore a model introduced by Cyr-Racine, Ge, and Knox (arXiv:2107.13000(2)) that resolves the Hubble tension by invoking a ``mirror world" dark sector with energy density a fixed fraction of the ``ordinary" sector of Lambda-CDM. Although it reconciles cosmic microwave background and large-scale structure observations with local measurements of the Hubble constant, the model requires a value of the primordial Helium mass fraction that is discrepant with observations and with the predictions of Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN). We consider a variant of the model with standard Helium mass fraction but with the value of the electromagnetic fine-structure constant slightly different during photon decoupling from its present value. If $alpha$ at that epoch is lower than its current value by $Delta alpha simeq -2times 10^{-5}$, then we can achieve the same Hubble tension resolution as in Cyr-Racine, et al. but with consistent Helium abundance. As an example of such time-evolution, we consider a toy model of an ultra-light scalar field, with mass $m

Momentum transfer in the dark sector and lensing convergence in upcoming galaxy surveys by Wilmar Cardona et al. on Monday 26 September We investigated a cosmological model that allows a momentum transfer between dark matter and dark energy. The interaction in the dark sector mainly affects the behaviour of perturbations on small scales while the background evolution matches the $w$CDM solution. As a result of the momentum transfer, these kinds of models help alleviating the $sigma_8$ discrepancy in the standard model, but do not resolve the so-called $H_0$ tension. We confirm that this is indeed the case by computing cosmological constraints. While our analysis tends to favour $sigma_8$ values lower than in $Lambda$CDM, we do not find evidence for a non-vanishing momentum transfer in the dark sector. Since upcoming galaxy surveys will deliver information on scales and red-shift relevant for testing models allowing momentum transfer in the dark sector, we also carried out forecasts using different survey configurations. We assessed the relevance of neglecting lensing convergence $kappa$ when modelling the angular power spectrum of number counts fluctuations $C_ell^{rm ij}(z,z')$. We found that not including $kappa$ in analyses leads to biased constraints ($approx 1-5,sigma$) of cosmological parameters even when including information from other experiments. Incorrectly modelling $C_ell^{rm ij}(z,z')$ might lead to spurious detection of neutrino masses and exacerbate discrepancies in $H_0$ and $sigma_8$. arXiv: http://arxiv.org/abs/http://arxiv.org/abs/2209.12583v1
This week Dr. Syintist, Chump Slap, and Poppascotch pull their chairs up to the table to talk about an under the radar game that tells us about a super secret CIA clean up man who accidentally finds a virus made of technology, then accidentally gets infected with it, and then learns how to use this techonovirus to magically summon a Glaive. Yes, like from the movie Krull. It's obviously time to talk about Dark Sector!

Nick and Josh take on Q2 of 2008, without Jake this week. They'll explore the cannibalistic tendencies of Nintendo, bad reboots, and a Snake doing the worm. Nick also steps it up for a Speedcap of 2008's Dark Sector. Digital Extreme's last stop before hopping on the Warframe super tanker. Basic Speedcap Rules With 20 minutes on the clock, the speedcapper will have to run through the synopsis of a game as fast as they can. The reviewer has a checklist of topics and things the speedcapper must cover in that time. In the end, we'll tally the score and see where the speedcapper finished. Nick and Josh will compete in speedcaps to determine who does a punishment after a set amount of speedcaps. Jace and Rocky from Comic Boom are here to chat about the DC Comics releases for the week of September 1st 2021. It's a big week with the end of Infinite Frontier and multiple Batman, Green Lantern and Suicide Squad books. Join us for all the in depth breakdowns. Swamp Thing #7 - In Rocky's favorite DC title this week, we see the beginning of how Levi Kamei was chosen as the latest avatar of the green and how that ties in so closely to his relationship with his family. Plus writer Ram V explores the age old question of progress versus tradition. How moving forward with innovation is often times in conflict with respecting the past. All this, plus the Suicide Squad is still hot on the heels of Swamp Thing. Writer - Ram V, Artist - Mike Perkins, Color Artist - Mike Spicer, Letterer - Aditya Bidikar Suicide Squad 2021 Annual #1 - If you had your doubts that Superboy would ever work with Amanda Waller, you aren't alone. This annual puts it all on the table as we see just how far Waller has gone and will go to get what she wants. Rick Flagg has known this for quite some time himself and it seems he is finally going to do something about it. Could this be the beginning of the end for "The Wall"? One can only hope. Writer - Robbie Thompson, Artists - Eduardo Pansica, Julio Ferreira & Dexter Soy, Color Artist - Chris Sotomayor, Letterer - Wes Abbott Suicide Squad #7 - Hot on the heels of the team discovering just how Amanda Waller got her own Superboy for the team, Waller is now sending the team to hell. Their mission is to recover the Rock of Eternity, but their new teammate and teleporter, Ambush Bug, seems more intent on warning the team about what their future might hold if the keep following Waller's Orders. Meanwhile is seems clear to everyone, support staff, subordinates & the squad themselves that Amanda Waller has gone out on her own and is attempting to operate with impunity. Writer - Robbie Thompson, Penciller - Eduardo Pansica, Inker - Julio Ferreira, Color Artist - Marcelo Maiolo, Letterer - Wes Abbott Blue & Gold #2 - Just when you thought things couldn't get any worse for our two favorite heroes, Ted Kord has been fired & removed from Kord Industries just as he was about to get the corporation to sponsor Blue Beetle and Booster Gold. To make matters worse, before Ted can even let Booster know, the constantly self=promoting super hero is already making the announcement that he and Blue Beetle are available to Joe Q Public for help with any and all needs. Writer - Dan Jurgens, Artist - Ryan Sook, Letterer - Rob Leigh Green Lantern #6 - We see the attack on New Korugar from a different perspective as Jo Mullein arrives to smooth things over with Sinestro as Simon Baz attempts to get Teen Lantern under control. Meanwhile we learn about the threat of the Gold Centurions in the Dark Sector, but just as John Stewart us about to launch a rescue mission to save Kilowog and the other de-powered lanterns, he discovers a spy in their midst. Just who is Lonar of the New Gods and what does he want? Writer - Geoffrey Thorne, Artists - Marco Santucci & Tom Raney, Color Artist - Michael Atiyeh, Letterer - Simon Bowland Green Lantern 2021 Annual #1 - Last we saw Jessica Cruz she was taking out three Yellow Lanterns and being offered a yellow power ring herself. Well, it seems she took the ring up on its offer, even if it was just so she could use it to return home. However, along the way, when she stops on New Korugar to return both the rings and the three defeated members of the Sinestro Corp, she is faced with a tough decision, give up the ring and be powerless to help her fellow de-powered Green Lanterns or keep it and become part of a corps that terrorizes the galaxy in an attempt to control it. What Jessica doesn't count on is getting a chance to use the ring and realize that fear can be a useful tool and not in the way you might expect. If anyone knows fear it's Jessica and she may be leading the Yellow Lantern Corps before you know it. Writer - Ryan Cady, Artist - Sami Basri & Tom Derenick, Color Artist - Hi-Fi, Letterer - Rob Leigh Infinite Frontier #6 - We learn that upon the recreation of the multiverse all the versions of Darkseid have been combined into one, powering up this last remaining mad god to unprecedented levels. So while the Flash manages to escape and the Justice Incarnate team is seemingly victorious for now, they all know that Darkseid has only just started to plot how he will take over the multiverse. It may fall on the shoulders of Justice Incarnate to save the day once again, but Barry Allen may have found an unexpected ally as, Pariah, from the original Crisis on Infinite Earths returns. Writer - Joshua Williamson, Artist - Xermanico, Color Artist - Romulo Fajardo Jr, Letterer - Tom Napolitano Batman Catwoman #7 - This issue brings the incredibly talented Liam Sharp on for art duties while the pacing of the story begins to speed up. All the separate storylines are starting to come together just as Selina & Bruce's daughter is asking some difficult questions about the relationship between her mother and father. Questions we as readers may have been thinking ourselves. Writer - Tom King, Artist - Liam Sharp, Letterer - Clayton Cowles Suicide Squad: Get Joker #1 - It's a bit hard to saw just what the narrative is here. We saw Amanda Waller meet her demise last issue and the detonator for the neck bombs fall into the hands of the Joker. Rather than have that force the squad into action, they choose to stay back and wait for the Joker to come to them, but when he does, it's now entirely clear what he wants. Writer - Brian Azzarello, Artist - Alex Maleev, Color Artist - Matt Hollingsworth, Letterer - Jared K. Fletcher Batman #112 - Fear State gets underway properly as Batman is able to escape from Scarecrow, but it's too late to stop the plans that have started to unfold. As Oracle informs Batman that all her systems have been compromised, he attempts to purge his system from the new fear chemicals the Scarecrow affected him with. Can Batman gather his Bat-Family in time to stop Scarecrow? And will it matter since Simon Saint and the Magistrate have started their maneuvering to take over Gotham City as well. Writer - James Tynion IV, Artist - Jorge Jimenez, Color Artist - Tomeu Morey, Letterer - Clayton Cowles Crush & Lobo #4 - Maybe all it took for Crush to stop sulking and bemoaning her life was to end up in prison in place of her father. It certainly seems to have sharpened her concentration as she quickly devises not only a plan on how to be identified as her true self, but how to convince the warden to let her go and capture her father. There is a BIG showdown brewing and we can't wait to see father and daughter throw down! Black Manta #1 - As Black Manta works to recover items stolen from him, we begin to see that powerful forces are at work. Does Manta have what it takes to harness these forces on his own? We've never seen him in the magical corner of the DCU before, but the power he craves may lead him in that direction. Writer - Chuck Brown, Artist - Valentine de Landro, Color Artist - Marissa Louise, Letterer - Clayton Cowles Nice House On The Lake #4 - The inhabitants of the house have learned that anything they desire just about they desire can be theirs. In a way the fact that they have survived the end of the world, can have their hearts desire and live in a paradise could mean they are in heaven. However, this heaven can also be seen as a prison, they are certainly not free, they have lost loved ones and the final piece of the puzzle could also be seen as a blessing or a curse. Just check out the final page of the issue and then decide for yourself. Writer - James Tynion IV, Artist - Alvaro Martinez-Bueno, Color Artist - Jordie Bellaire, Letterer - Andworld Design

Cultisti! Come dire. Aste ambientate nell’antico Egitto? Tesserine? Token? Un tabellone che pare lo schema di un parcheggio? LA SENTITE L’ADRENALINA CHE SALE? Noi sì. Pronti, via. Buon ascolto e in questo caso…ci vediamo dall’altra parte!

This episode is sponsored by Voodoo Ranger and My Journey to Catan. While Johnny’s away, the rest of the Dicebreaker crew will play! Well, when we find time for games between PAX/EGX and all this news, that is. We do manage to squeeze in our thoughts on Machi Koro, Gloomhaven Digital, Hues & Cues and Escape the Dark Sector, along with discussion of the possible return of HeroQuest, The Crew’s latest award win, upcoming RPG releases and more. After that, we answer your questions on the rubbish bits of otherwise great board games, dealing with sore losers and when a touch of unpredictability can be a good thing.
New and improved show format!! This time around, we are going with a segmented format so that we can cover more ground in each episode. If we don’t make rules for ourselves, we will end up with a nine hour podcast on Kingdom Death: Monster or my love for Batman and that wouldn’t be fun. This time around, we talk toy news and cover Hasbro’s announcement regarding reducing their usage of plastics in their packaging. A noble effort that we support but will probably prove to be a challenge with some possible neat solutions- they should put us on the payroll for all of our awesome ideas. We also cover some new and upcoming toy releases such as the Marvel Legends Storm figure in her sweet iconic white costume and killer retro cardback. We also look forward to next year’s MAFEX Batman figures from Jim Lee’s HUSH series and the legendary Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns graphic novel. They look killer and we can’t wait to get ahold of them. As for board games, we talk about the rerelease of the Dune board game which has a cult following and this edition by Gale Force 9 has some great contemporary artwork and some updates that should really make a game night to remember. NOTE: this was recorded prior to release of the game so we had less information to work with at that time so keep that in mind. Additionally, we talk about The 7th Continent, a game by Serious Poulp based in France, coming to retail and our bittersweet reaction to this news and our excitement for Themeborne’s recently successful Kickstarter campaign for Escape the Dark Sector. This sophomore release builds on the feel and mechanics of Escape the Dark Castle and adds more depth while keeping the retro "choose your own adventure" spirit that we love. We want to thank you all for listening and really feel like we have hit on something with this new segmented format. We may have spotlight episodes for things we just can’t shut up about, but we think this will be the wave of the future for us. Feel free to email us at mail@playwithitpodcast.com and tell us what you think and what games or toys you are most looking forward to as well.

We're back with another episode of the TPCast! In this episode, we discuss the new multiplayer details for the Halo Reach Beta. Next up, we read the emails we got (yes, we actually got some this week). Then we talk about new video plans and announce the 2010 Thomas Productions Movie Awards. Lastly, we review the video games "Mass Effect 2", "Borderlands", and... a little game called "Dark Sector". One of them gets the shaft. Which will it be?! This episode clocks in just shy of one hour and thirty minutes, so be sure to listen! As you may have heard, we are starting up the 2010 Thomas Productions Movie Awards. It's where you the listener/viewer get to vote on which Thomas Productions videos you liked the best. Go to http://www.thomasproductionsinc.com/tpma.aspx to vote. The deadline is Sunday, April 18 at midnight, so get those votes in. The winners will be announced on a special live episode of the TPCast (to be announced).

In this show I talk with ‘Someguy’, a man on the periphery of the games industry. We talk about how renting games affects the way one plays and think about them. We also touch on what developers think of the rental industry. At the start of the show we have mini-reviews of Tiger Woods 09 and Dark Sector for the 360. We also discuss games’ difficulty, Gary Glitter’s dress sense, gold farming and more. There’s some swearing in this episode. Music is ‘Field of Grass’ by Mountain Mirrors. Show is compressed to a sprightly 14.3MB. Email us
This week we do the whole episode all over again, sans guests. Sigh. Jason gets hopped up on Nectar with Haze, detoxes with some Echo Chrome, and gets infected by Dark Sector. We have first impressions of Penny Arcade's first video game, dissect Jason's anger for Dragon Quest, and dig up yet more cheap games to look for in the Bargain Bin.
