In 2011 Heroku defined the 12 factor app to remove emerging bottlenecks as developers tried to scale their output when they moved from building monoliths to microservices. In Platform Engineer we see a repeating pattern called the "8 Factor Platform Producers".  AI allows engineering teams to speed up but they face bottlenecks as platform capabilities are not scaling with that demand as they are often depending on a central platform engineering team to be built and maintained. To learn more about 8 Factor Platform Producers we invited Abby Bangser,  Founding Principal Engineer at Syntasso and CNCF Ambassador. She gave an amazing talk at KubeCon in Amsterdam and today walks us through the need of defining both consumers and producers for platforms to eliminate any emerging bottlenecks in Platform Engineering and allow an organization to reap the benefit of speeding up with AILinks we discussed:Abby's LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/abbybangser/Abby's Kubecon Keynote: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8t0-5cvvMGM&list=PLj6h78yzYM2MXCOWSN9CqqID6OOvF7wxL&index=3012 Factor Apps: https://12factor.net/CNCF Whitepaper: https://cloudnativeplatforms.com/whitepapers/platforms/

What does it mean to be American? What does it mean to be Asian American — and why, in 2026, are so many of us still leading with worry? Today, in honor of AANHPI Heritage Month, we're diving into the TAAF STAATUS Index 2026 by unpacking some stats that are eye-opening, some that are infuriating, and some that are deeply familiar. We'll talk about how Asian Americans are seen - and how we see ourselves - from the food on our plates to the question of whether you even have to be born here to belong here. It's AANHPI Heritage Month, and we have some thoughts (unsurprising to all of our regular listeners, we're sure!). If this episode resonates with you, please share widely - and let us know what action step you decided to take after listening. What to listen for:  The latest data shows that Asian Americans in 2026 feel predominantly worried right now (compared to other groups who feel more "hopeful") - here's why we think that might be, and it may not be the why that's most common What does it mean to be American? Do you have to be born in the US? And why do so many folks of Asian descent feel you don't have to be born here to be American?  How Asian culture shows up in our homes.  Some ideas for what you can do this month: Watch an Asian film (made by Asians, featuring Asians), have some Asian food, research a significant moment in Asian American history, speak with your Asian friends to learn something new about their lives.

The Sunday Interview: “We Are Not a Monolith”: Latino Evangelicals, Immigration Politics, and the Battle Over Representation

In this episode of the Straight White American Jesus Sunday Interview, host Leah Payne speaks with Jonathan Calvillo, sociologist of religion at Candler School of Theology at Emory University and author of The Saints of Santa Ana, about growing tensions within Latino evangelical and Pentecostal communities over immigration, political representation, and the public platforming of prominent evangelical leader Samuel Rodriguez. The conversation centers on the recent “We Are Not a Monolith” statement issued by Latino pastors, scholars, and ministry leaders calling for greater nuance and accountability in how Latino Christians are represented in national media. Calvillo explains why many faith leaders believe Rodriguez has come to function less as an advocate for vulnerable immigrant communities and more as a defender of Trump-era immigration policies and conservative political networks. Together, Payne and Calvillo explore how ICE raids and immigration enforcement are reshaping Latino churches across the United States, including the emergence of new theological language around persecution, sanctuary, solidarity, and resistance. They discuss the complex political diversity within Latino evangelicalism, the influence of white evangelical megachurch networks on Latino Pentecostal leaders, and the growing tensions between immigrant-majority congregations and prominent conservative evangelical institutions. The episode also examines how Latino evangelical and Pentecostal churches are responding to fear, surveillance, and political polarization in this moment, including new collaborations between immigrant churches, ecumenical groups, and unexpected community allies. Throughout the conversation, Calvillo situates current debates within a longer history of migration, marginalization, religious activism, and public theology in the United States. The penultimate track on Monolith gainded the most notoriety for its music video and demo bonus track. Sean Lennon tells the tale of hanging with Michael Jackson and his chimp Bubbles at Neverland Ranch, and Sean has a lot to say about that portrayal, which we sample from a 2016 NPR interview. Most childhood odes wouln't sound or read anything like this, so it's a fascinating glimpse inside the weirdness. The book deliberately starts from the network layer up — transmission modes, TCP, protocol stacks — rather than jumping straight to REST and GraphQL, because, as Lukasz explains, most API problems only become visible when you understand the substrate beneath them. The conversation covers the full spectrum: public vs internal APIs, the Bezos API Mandate moment, why treating your API as a product is non-negotiable, and why the choice between binary and textual protocols is never as obvious as performance benchmarks suggest. The real gold comes in two moments. First, Lukasz lays out a crisp checklist for what makes a good API — audience-awareness, maintainability, efficiency, intuitiveness, resilience, security, testability, and documentation that actually matches behavior. Second, Sam shares a war story about a credit derivative system where the only way to figure out who was accessing the database was to turn off the credentials and wait for angry phone calls. The lesson: context shapes every trade-off, there's no universal right answer between REST, gRPC, WebSockets, or messaging, and the best API decision is the one that fits your situation — not the one that fits the conference talk.RECOMMENDED BOOKSLukasz Dynowski • Learning API Styles • https://amzn.to/3PFembKSam Newman • Building Resilient Distributed Systems • https://www.oreilly.com/library/view/building-resilient-distributed/9781098163532Sam Newman • Monolith to Microservices • https://amzn.to/2Nml96ESam Newman • Building Microservices • https://amzn.to/3dMPbOsRonnie Mitra & Irakli Nadareishvili • Microservices: Up and Running• https://amzn.to/3c4HmmLBlueskyInstagramLinkedInFacebookCHANNEL MEMBERSHIP BONUSJoin this channel to get early access to videos & other perks:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCs_tLP3AiwYKwdUHpltJPuA/joinLooking for a unique learning experience?Attend the next GOTO conference near you! Taken from the band's forthcoming debut full-length, the track cements Hexjakt as one of the genre's most promising new voices. Forged in 2024, Hexjakt crafts heavy, atmospheric doom steeped in crushing riffs, haunting textures, and introspective weight. Rooted in the traditions of Black Sabbath, Electric Wizard, and Conan, their sound balances classic doom foundations with a bleak, modern edge. Lyrically, Monolith delves into themes of the occult, human fragility, and the vast unknown, exploring despair, mystery, and transcendence. Their debut EP drew widespread acclaim from both fans and critics, hailed for its depth, intensity, and immersive atmosphere. On stage, Hexjakt's towering wall of sound and commanding presence has left audiences shaken, delivering performances that linger long after the amps go silent. With Monolith, the band pushes further into the abyss, delivering a slow, relentless, and emotionally charged statement of doom. This week on Militantly Mixed, I'm joined by Noelle Blanco, whom I met at Mixed Asian Day 2025 in San Francisco. Noelle ended up joining our We Are Not a Monolith panel at literally the last possible minute, when she had just stepped off stage from another panel, and we invited her to jump in with us because we loved her whole vibe on the previous panel. With no prep whatsoever and me moderating the panel, she did her thing and just killed it!One of my favorite Noelle stories from the panels at Mixed Asian Day, and this episode comes from her childhood. When she would explain her ethnicity, she thought the answer was “Pork and Cheese and Jalapeño,” because that is what Portuguese, Spanish, Chinese, and Filipino sounded like. I love finding the different ways we, as Mixed kids, try to make sense of our ethnic identities. This episode was recorded back in November, but the last few months have been a little rough on my end. I'm happy to report that now that the ADHD medication that was making me feel completely dead inside is finally out of my system, I'm feeling like myself again and excited to be back working on the show.In this conversation, Noelle and I talk about Mixed Asian identity, belonging, and community, and how events like Mixed Asian Day create space for multiracial people to share their stories and experiences. We also dig into the idea that Mixed people are often expected to fit into neat categories when the reality is far more complicated.Meeting people like Noelle at events like Mixed Asian Day is one of the things I love most about doing this podcast. It's a reminder of how powerful it can be when Mixed folks gather together, share our stories, and remind each other that we are not a monolith.I'm really glad I get to share this conversation with you all.Support Militantly MixedIf you enjoy the show and want to help keep conversations about mixed-race identity, multiracial community, and intersectional experiences going, there are a few ways you can support:Visit the Website https://militantlymixed.comLeave a Review or Send a Voicemail Your reviews help new listeners discover the show, and I love hearing from the Mixed Cousins community.Support on Paypal https://paypal.me/MilitantlyMixedShop Militantly Mixed Merch Logo tees, “Mixed & Hella Queer,” and more.Follow Militantly MixedInstagram: @militantlymixed Bluesky: @militantlymixed Facebook: Militantly Mixed Podcast

Relooted launched.  Apparently.   That's right, another game for "the modern audience" launched to great applause amongst the 160 people who played it. Whereas last week Highguard peaked at almost 100,000 players before catering from the stratosphere, it seems this game never even left the ground. Will game studios ever learn, or are we stuck playing Asian games forever?

In 2016, Les Claypool had some time away from Primus and invited Sean Lennon to Rancho Relaxo; Sean had guested on some Primus encores during their 2015 summer tour and jammed backstage with Les, where a connection was born. They fished, drank pinot, discussed nuggets from newspapers and periodicals, in the process birthing The Claypool Lennon Delirium. We get into the details of how these two got together and give an album overview of Monolith of Phobos, a proggy/psychedelic album name if there ever was one. Get involvedInstagramFacebookEmailBurn your money

In this conversation, Jesse Michels joins me to explore a question that's becoming harder to dismiss: what if the phenomenon we call UFOs points to something real—and we don't yet know what it is? Rather than arguing for belief or disbelief, this episode is an invitation to curiosity, careful inquiry, and intellectual honesty about the limits of our current understanding. We examine historical UFO encounters near nuclear sites, government secrecy, and the growing body of anomalies that don't sit comfortably within a purely materialist worldview. This is a conversation about staying grounded while remaining open. About asking better questions. And about whether phenomena like UFOs, non-human intelligence, or something we haven't yet named might be nudging us to expand how we think about reality, consciousness, and our place in the universe.Momentous: Best Creatine in the gamehttps://livemomentous.com[Use code KNOWTHYSELF for up to 35% off]BONCHARGE - 15% off red light therapy products I personally usehttps://www.boncharge.com/knowthyself[Code: KNOWTHYSELF]André's Book Recs: https://www.knowthyselfpodcast.com/book-list___________00:00 Intro06:36 Questioning the Nature of Reality09:18 A Timeline of Non-Human Intelligence Evidence23:37 Why Nuclear Sites Attract Attention31:55 Extraordinary Claims, Extraordinary Evidence40:29 Ad: Momentous41:51 Letting Go of Human-Centric Thinking47:49 Studying Claims Without Dismissing People58:58 Non-Human Biologics and Physical Evidence1:06:10 Ad: Boncharge1:07:25 What May Have Been Quietly Explored1:18:55 The Hidden Branch of Physics1:26:38 Reframing Aliens Through Consciousness1:33:33 Grays, Nordics, and Reptilians Explained1:40:10 Why We Don't See Reality Directly1:53:58 Glimpses Outside Linear Time1:58:44 Why Aliens Look Strangely Human2:07:32 Shared Phenomena in Altered States2:15:32 Jesse's Personal UFO Experiences2:23:35 The Monolith as a Metaphor2:29:07 The Problem With Visual Proof2:35:24 What Is Actually Happening?2:46:47 Voices Worth Listening To2:51:22 What Would You Ask an Alien?2:53:19 Closing Thoughts___________Episode Resources: https://www.youtube.com/Jessemichelshttps://www.instagram.com/jessemichelsofficial/https://www.instagram.com/andreduqum/https://www.instagram.com/knowthyself/https://www.youtube.com/@knowthyselfpodcasthttps://www.knowthyselfpodcast.com

Manuel, the barber on Calle Roja,  who was no friend of Fidel's,   swept up Castro's beard with his broom. Manuel placed the beard  in a dill pickle jar and called the F.B.I.    Interrogation proved useless  against Castro's infiltrating beard. Torture, truth serum, and offers of amnesty. None of these tactics worked.  The F.B.I. made offers of money, to which Castro's beard just laughed, and said,  “Try again.”  Following months of imprisonment and high level risk assessment, the FBI released Castro's beard. A revolution in the United States was unlikely.   Finding work was not difficult. Castro's beard was offered a job to write  for the socialist rag, La Revolucion. The Department of Labor issued a work visa.  The beard was determined  to make something of itself.  Having lived in Cuba on a dictator's face,  Castro's beard wrote the best articles  on socialism anybody had ever read.   The disembodied beard worked its way to the top. Staff writer, to lead writer, to Editor in Chief. Life was good for the transplanted ideologue.  The beard bought a car and a small bungalow. None of it belonged to Cuba. Castro's beard was happy for a long time.   Many years later, on a cool evening,  Castro's Beard was watching television and  eating dinner at home in Little Havana.  There was a knock on the door.  Not expecting company, the beard said, “Who is it?”  There was a very long pause before the reply.  “Somos los amigos de Fidel Castro.  Señor Castro está muerto.”  We are the friends of Fidel. Mr Castro is dead.  The day Castro's beard had been dreading had arrived.   The beard opened its front door. Two men, dressed in black suits, with skin  the color of gold stood on the porch.  The men smelled of cigar smoke, rum, and fresh limes. They were crying. “Stay here,” said Castro's beard. The beard went to its bedroom, and took a suitcase  from the closet, and started packing.  The men waited on the porch.    Hundreds of thousands—maybe millions— of mourners passed by the glass coffin of Fidel Castro. The line of people waiting to see the dead President's body at Revolution Square, stretched for miles. From its perch on Fidel's cold dead chin,  Castro's beard regarded each mourner with gratitude. Most were silent, some said long and whispering prayers, others wailed and screamed with unfathomable grief.   An old woman addressed Castro's beard directly.  “I'm so glad you're home,” she said, wiping away tears,  “You belong here, on the face of our leader.”  Deep down inside, Castro's beard was certain  The old woman was right.  “May I ask you a question?” said the beard to the woman. The old woman blew her nose into a rag and nodded.  “Did Fidel forget me—did he hate me for failing?” “Never,” the woman said to the beard,  dropping her handkerchief. She smiled. “He loved you for trying.”
