There's no amount of sweetener that can soften the intensity of this flavor. Jesus calls everyone to turnaround or they'll be just like them dudes who perished in the worst way. Turns out how gruesome someone's death doesn't necessarily equal how terrible they were in life. Jesus lets us know that change is an agent of suffering and not changing is also an agent of suffering so… which suffering will we choose and when? It's good to be rich unless you're the young guy Jesus was talking to in Luke 18. Does he sell everything? Does he follow Jesus? Well, nobody really knows, but we do get to see another tough conversation that Jesus has with someone who feels like that have it all figured out! Among the hardest things Jesus says is this doozy, ...if you brother sins against you seven times... then you must forgive him..." It sounds sweet, but if it was, why do His disciples respond with "Increase our faith!" Forgiveness is a beautiful notion which is nearly impossible for humans to do without divine inspiration.
