Parenting is messy, beautiful, and exhausting. And for many of us, one of the big questions we carry is: How do I raise my kids in the Christian faith? In this episode of Together 4 Good, Pastor Nate shares Christian parenting tips that he and his wife are learning as they raise their three kids; what's working, what they're still figuring out, and why faith has to be about more than just “good morals.”You'll hear stories about family traditions that nurture Christian faith (like Christmas Eve hikes with hot cocoa), simple rituals that help children connect with God (their sign-language mealtime prayer is a favorite), and why curiosity, awe, and wonder might be the best tools parents have for passing faith to the next generation. In this episodeHow to raise kids in the Christian faith without just teaching rulesWhy “faith is caught, not taught” matter for parenting todayFamily traditions and rituals that ground children in faithSimple ways to teach children about God through wonder and curiosityWhy asking “when did your heart feel full?” is a better spiritual practice than focusing only on morals. If you're looking for practical ways to raise kids with faith, love, and humility, this episode will give you encouragement and ideas to bring into your everyday family life. On Sunday Pastor Nate kicked off our new series, “This is the Way.” Early Christians were known as “people of the Way,” because they learned to walk with Jesus and live reflecting God's values. In the book of Acts we read about Spirit-led patterns and practices that were part of the fabric of the early church. In this 5-part series, we'll cover a pattern each week on Sunday and discuss it in Connect Groups throughout the week. The first pattern that Pastor Nate preached about is “Life-Giving Spiritual Community.” We may find community in many relationships, but spiritual community brings life to our soul. If we want the fruit of community, we need to have the roots of commitment to each other. What a powerful message! If you couldn't join on Sunday, check out the message here.
In the final message of our Failure to Thrive series, Pastor Nate unpacks how relationships are vital to our spiritual growth. Just as children cannot thrive physically without love and care, we cannot thrive spiritually without healthy relationships. Where there is sin, conflict is inevitable—but healing comes through apology and forgiveness. This message explores the five apology languages from "the 5 Apology Languages" by Gary Chapman and Jennifer Thomas—expressing regret, accepting responsibility, making restitution, planning change, and requesting forgiveness—and how each one helps restore broken relationships. It then turns to forgiveness, showing three biblical responses: true forgiveness when there is repentance and apology, loving our enemies when no apology is offered, and bearing with one another in daily grace. Together, these practices allow us to reflect the heart of Christ and move toward the abundant life He promised.
Pastor Nate brings the message, "Believing What is Foolish” from 1 Corinthians 1:18-31.The message of the Gospel will always be rejected by some as utter nonsense and foolishness. Yet, God has seen fit to show His wisdom through the cross and bring people from all over the world to Himself. Because the gospel is the power of God unto salvation, we will keep the foolishness of the gospel at the center and boast, not in ourselves, but in Him.

On today's Together 4 Good, Pastor Nate pulls together two of our most recent conversations into one big theme: how to stop measuring yourself by the grind and start resting in God's peace.First up: hustle culture. You know the drill: more hours, more hustle, more “look what I did.” Nate shares some personal stories (yes, including his grandpa's trusty steel lunchbox) and the reminder that while hard work is good, it's not what gives us our worth. That's where Sabbath comes in, God's gift to remind us that we're already loved. Then we shift gears into what happens after you step off the hamster wheel: how do you actually protect that peace? Enter “spiritual sunscreen.” In a world that won't stop shouting at you to buy, produce, and perform, God flips the script with grace first, then gratitude.✨ You'll hear:Why hustle culture always leads to burnout and despair. How Sabbath is resistance against being defined by what you do.The Exodus story as a guide for a new way of living. What it means to put on “spiritual sunscreen” and guard your peace. Why grace—not hustle—is always God's starting point.
In this week's message, Pastor Nate continues our Failure to Thrive series with a focus on “Proper Exercise.” Just as our bodies weaken without movement, our spirits grow apathetic without servanthood. From Philippians 2:5–7, we see that following Christ's example as a servant prevents apathy, builds perseverance, requires sacrifice, strengthens the church, and deepens our integrity. Servanthood isn't easy, but it's the workout that keeps our faith strong and helps us thrive in the abundant life Jesus promised.
Pastor Nate brings the message, "Gospel Unity for a Divided Church” from 1 Corinthians 1:10-17. Could members of a church ever divide over favorite leadership personalities? In Corinth well-known leaders like Paul, Apollos, and Peter were becoming icons of loyalty, and Paul wasn't having any of it. This first section of 1 Corinthians is instructive for Christians concerning the essential center for unity in the church.

On today's episode of Together 4 Good, Pastor Nate sits down with Pastor Carrie Bayless and her daughter Emmy for a conversation that was totally unplanned, and turned out to be one of the most real, funny, and thoughtful episodes yet.We talk about what it's like growing up as a pastor's kid (fun fact: Nate's a PK too!), the expectations that come with being “the pastor's family,” and why Emmy, a high school senior, is still showing up for church when so many of her friends aren't. Along the way we swap stories about pajama pants vs. church clothes, why kids especially 6-and 7-year-olds are the most hilarious part of Sunday school, and how church can feel like home. This episode is about faith, family, and purpose, and why being known and welcomed in a church community makes all the difference. You'll hear:Honest stories about what it's like to be a pastor's kid and how expectations shape faith. How church challenges us to grow and why that's different from checking a box on Sunday. The difference between school friends and church friends and why it matters. Why church is still the one place we gather around love, belonging, and Jesus.Download the full podcast here: Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/together-4-good-conversations-on-faith-family-and/id1529196060Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0aFHcs9xjcRK54uXJzUBbH?si=VwBUEjyQQnieXyKHdkcfvAFollow Bethany Lutheran Church on social media for all the best moments from the show: https://linktr.ee/bethanydenverAnd keep up with us in the Bethany Connect app available in your app store!

In this message from our Failure to Thrive series, Pastor Nate unpacks the importance of a proper spiritual diet. Just as our bodies cannot thrive without food, our spirit cannot flourish without God's Word. We explore two key practices for spiritual nourishment: Scripture Engagement—feeding daily on God's Word, receiving weekly teaching, and rejecting spiritual junk food—and Fasting—learning to let go of distractions in order to draw closer to God.Discover how to move from spiritual malnourishment to thriving in Christ, living the full life Jesus promised in John 10:10.
Pastor Nate brings the message, "The Practice of Church Discipline” from Matthew 16:13-9; 18:15-20. Just the mention of church discipline can leave Christians feeling uneasy, more than likely because it has been done poorly in so many different contexts. Yet, the practice itself is a responsibility that Jesus has given to His church. So, on Sunday, we will look at this important Biblical practice with humility and aim to grow in obeying our King.
This week Pastor Nate returns and continues to walk us through the book of Acts, focusing on the results of a Transformed Life in Christ.

From growing up in Florida, playing under Coach Tom Allen in the Big 10, to navigating injuries, career changes, and a move to Colorado, Michael shares how faith, hard work, and community have carried him through. His story is one of optimism, perseverance, and trust that God really does have a bigger plan. You'll hear:How football taught Michael about teamwork, trust, and accountability. The way coaches and mentors wove faith into everyday life on and off the field. What it looks like to lean on God in the face of injuries, setbacks, and big transitions. Why community, whether on a team or in a church, is the key reason he's still here.Michael's story is down to earth, heartfelt, and full of reminders that faith isn't just for Sunday mornings, it's lived out in locker rooms, delivery trucks, and all the everyday places we show up. What is our hope for peace in a world of chaos? Pastor Nate explains from Luke 19:28-46 and the triumphal entry that we will find lasting peace only if we rest and submit to the true king, Jesus.
In this episode of Together 4 Good, Pastor Nate sits down with Susan Junge to talk about why, after 27 years, she's still going to church. Her journey began in an interfaith marriage, sitting in a Lutheran church pew mostly so her husband could sing in the choir. But somewhere along the way, the Holy Spirit began tugging at her heart. She was baptized as an adult, dove into the church choir, Stephen Ministry, and found a depth of faith she never expected.Susan opens up about how worshiping together shaped her marriage, how centering prayer transformed her daily awareness of God, and why community, both here and in the Communion of Saints, still holds her steady today. It's a conversation about how faith grows quietly over time, why showing up matters, and how God uses community to meet us in joy, grief, and even in the search for a missing cell phone. What You'll Learn in this EpisodeHow an interfaith marriage became the starting point for a lifelong Lutheran journey. Why showing up in person changes how we experience God and each other. The spiritual depth found in choir, hymns, and weekly communion. What centering prayer is and how it can change your daily life. Why church isn't about what you “get” but also about who you walk alongside. Welcome back to the Christ Street Fellowship podcast. This week wraps up our summer series, Get Smart!—a deep dive into the wisdom of Proverbs. In this final message, Pastor Nate unpacks the incredible power of our words.Proverbs 18:21 reminds us that "Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” And throughout the message, we see how words can either wound deeply or bring healing and hope.We explored three key areas of wisdom when it comes to speech:Understanding vs. Ignorance – Are our words grounded in knowledge and humility, or are we just venting opinions?Restraint vs. Venting – Are we speaking to be heard, or listening with self-control and grace?Timeliness – Are we learning to speak the right words at the right time, led by the Spirit and godly counsel? The message also called us to be peacemakers with our words, just as God made peace with us through The Word made flesh, Jesus Christ. Using the acronym P.E.A.C.E., Pastor Nate gave practical tools for de-escalating conflict and speaking life into hard situations.
Title: Sing to Him a New SongSpeaker: Nate HoldridgeText: Psalm 33Overview: Pastor Nate Holdridge teaches through Psalm 33, an anonymous psalm that calls believers to sing a "new song" to the Lord. The sermon examines three central truths about God from this psalm: His power and goodness revealed through creation and His Word, His sovereign plan that supersedes human counsel, and His worthiness of our trust over earthly securities. Pastor Nate traces how the Book of Psalms progressively moves toward praise, explains the significance of God's steadfast love (chesed) throughout creation, and addresses the modern "false hopes" that compete for our trust. The message concludes with practical application for becoming worshippers who engage both exuberantly and sincerely in their faith.
Pastor Nate brings the message, "The Practice of Giving." For the next three weeks we will turn to the Bible to look at healthy practices for a local church. This week we are looking at the practice of giving; next week is the practice of membership and serving. The last week we will cover the practice of Biblical discipline. Ask God to use this series in your own life and for His glory in the church.

When we surrender what we cannot control, we make room for the peace, purpose, and power God longs to give us—because open hands receive what closed fists never will.

Four. Hundred. Episodes. What a journey, what a milestone, what a celebration! That's a whole lot of conversation, curiosity, and community. To mark this milestone, Pastor Nate sits down with someone who's been part of this journey from the beginning, Pastor Gary Sandberg, for a deeply personal conversation about what keeps us coming back to church.Yes, the headlines continue to shout about church decline. However, this episode serves as a reminder that staying is its own kind of testimony. They talk candidly about:The real reasons people leave church, and the quieter reasons people stayGrace, commitment, and why the church doesn't need to be perfect to be powerfulHow worship can ground us even when nothing else makes senseThe unexpected beauty of liturgy (and chanting in a Snuggie)What Pastor Gary still finds at the altar after 30+ years in ministryWhat You'll LearnWhy do people stay in church when the stats say otherwiseThe hidden value of participation over perfectionHow churches can offer peace in an anxious, overstimulated worldWhy liturgy might be weird at first—and why it's worth sticking withPastor Gary's car-shopping analogy for finding the right congregationThis episode isn't just a look back, it's a recommitment to the future. In this message from our Get Smart series, Pastor Nate explores the path of humility through the wisdom of Proverbs. Pride is a subtle but totally pervasive and destructive force—often hiding in insecurity, self-righteousness, and even our faith. But humility, rightly understood, is living in reality: God is God, and we are not. With Scripture, real-life examples, and practical steps, this episode shows how choosing the low place leads to joy, freedom, and wisdom.Key Passage: Proverbs 11:2 – “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom.”
Title: A Prayer for the Sad, Stressed, and SlanderedSpeaker: Nate HoldridgeText: Psalm 31Overview: In this weekly sermon from Calvary Monterey, Pastor Nate Holdridge examines Psalm 31, a prayer for the sad, stressed, and slandered. Pastor Nate walks through the psalmist David's journey from being overwhelmed by physical, emotional, and spiritual pain to finding profound security in God's character. Discover how convictions about God's steadfast love and protective power can lead to an active, life-altering trust. This teaching offers a powerful reminder that even in our darkest moments, we can commit our spirit into God's hands, find our true identity in Him, and be filled with strength and courage.
Pastor Nate brings the message, "God, Test Me” from Psalm 26. We gathered together as a church family around the communion table and celebrated the victorious work of Christ over sin and death. Paul says that as we approach this gathering we ought to examine ourselves for unrepentant sin. The passage and sermon of Psalm 26 helps us to confidently examine our lives under God's steadfast love...love that changes our lives.
n this message Pastor Nate Dumlao brings a powerful word around the importance of obedience and trust in God's calling. Using Exodus 3 and the story of Moses, Pastor Nate challenges us to stop living in fear, control, or disappointment—and instead live a life marked by a continuous “yes” to God's will. Every "yes" aligns us with heaven's assignment and opens the door to transformation not just in our lives, but in the lives of others around us.
