Subject: Deny Yourself and Take Up Your Cross... Speaker or Performer: Pastor Joshua Morrison Scripture Passage(s): Matthew 16:24 Date of Delivery: May 21, 2025
Jesus explicitly states that whoever follows him must deny themselves and take up their cross daily. But what does that mean? Before Calvary, the cross was merely an instrument of death, but it is now where Jesus offers newness of life. We too must daily die to our sin because the cross is not given; it is a choice to bear. Followers of Jesus around the world will soon be remembering the significant events that took place during Holy Week, some 2000 years ago. As FEBC broadcasters share the story of Jesus' death and resurrection, it is important for all of us to understand our role in sharing this message. In this episode Ed and Wayne will take us to several passages that help us grasp the challenging words of Jesus to “…deny ourselves and take up our cross daily.” What will the world see when believers are willing to sacrifice themselves for the benefit of telling others about Jesus? You'll want your Bible in hand for a challenging and important conversation that will propel us into this season of remembrance…Until All Have Heard.

Deliberately this episode is only a few minutes long as you listen you will understand why as you witness the profound vulnerability of an aging Peter when he recalls one of the most painful moments of his walk with Jesus—when he rebuked his Master for predicting His death, only to be sharply corrected in return. This deeply moving narrative brings us behind the scenes of Gospel writing, as Matthew captures Peter's tearful recollections of his well-intentioned but misguided attempt to protect Jesus from suffering. The poignancy of this moment lies in Peter's hard-earned wisdom. Now an old man, he understands what he couldn't grasp in his younger years: that his resistance to Jesus' crucifixion journey wasn't faithfulness but failure. "If only he had listened that day," we read as Peter weeps, recognizing that his denial of Christ began long before the courtyard and rooster's crow—it started with his unwillingness to accept the necessity of the cross. What makes this account particularly moving is Peter's determination to share his failure despite how poorly it reflects on him. His tearstained realization becomes our instruction: following Christ means embracing self-denial and taking up our own crosses. The words of Jesus that once seemed harsh—"Go behind me, Satan"—now read as a profound invitation to align ourselves with divine purposes rather than human comfort. Through Peter's hindsight, we gain foresight for our own discipleship journey, learning that sometimes the most loving thing we can do is accept the necessary suffering that comes with following God's path.Send us a text

Does Luke 9 really mean that we have to die daily? Why would we confess our sins to God? Why would we confess to other people? Is our forgiveness hanging in the balance?
Send us a textDeacon Robert KinghornAnn's journey from the streets to healing is a testament to the transforming power of God's grace. Her struggles did not define her; rather, they shaped her into someone who now helps others. Like the disciples at the Transfiguration, she has seen Christ's glory, even in her darkest moments. Her story reminds us that faith does not erase our past but gives us the strength to move forward, trusting in God's love and redemption.

Being a Christian isn't a one-time decision—it's a daily choice. ✝️ In today's Rise Up reflection, Fr. Jonathan Meyer unpacks Jesus' words from Luke 9:23: “If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” Lent isn't just about what we chose on Day 1—it's about choosing daily to grow in faith, sacrifice, and love. Whether it's prayer, scripture, fasting, or service, our walk with Christ requires daily commitment. What daily habit is God calling you to? Let's pray for the grace to carry our cross each day and become the saints we are called to be.
Explore the profound message of Matthew 16:21, where Jesus reveals his impending suffering and death. Peter's strong reaction illustrates the struggle between human perspective and divine purpose. Jesus teaches that true discipleship involves self-denial and taking up one's cross, emphasizing the need to surrender personal desires to follow his will. The session ends with blessings and encouragement to embrace the day.

Today on Uncommon Sense with Ginny Robinson, we're discussing Kanye West's latest internet meltdown and what it reveals about the state of our unfortunate over-sexualized and depraved culture. From celebrity chaos to societal decay, it's clear—without God, the world spirals into total confusion and sin. We're breaking down the bigger picture and talking about why it's time to turn away from worldliness/wickedness and the dysfunction of degeneracy and back to the truth and love of Christ. Jesus is the only sane way forward, ladies and gentlemen.--https://www.thebrandsunday.com/products/the-bible-study-copy?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=tbs_thebiblestudy_searchads-nixwdmd&tw_source=google&tw_adid=608801073541&tw_campaign=17672311083&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAC-_2dRN1WU6lhTaWFNApFgzBkVe_&gclid=CjwKCAiAwaG9BhAREiwAdhv6Y_Xc6w4LM7_4otTu1-XgzYjKKwhwbNBCdqLFVTDdXToND7Rt6JU2hBoC3hsQAvD_BwE
A CHURCH REVOLUTION IS WHEN THE INDIVIDUALS WHO MAKE UP THE CHURCH COMPLETELY AND FUNDAMENTALLY CHANGE THEMSELVES, THE CHURCH, AND THE COMMUNITY. THIS HAPPENS WHEN PEOPLE LIVE THE LIFE CHRIST GAVE US IN ABUNDANCE!
Sunday Morning- Bro. Titus Larson- Matthew 16:24-28
The call to discipleship is a call to deny ourselves. We take up our cross as we die to earthly sin, values, and lifestyle. It is to wholeheartedly embrace the life of Christ. It is a life of surrender to Christ and an abandonment to things of this world. To take up the cross means to identify with Christ in His rejection, shame, suffering, and death.Main Points:1. It's common today when speaking of a hardship or difficulty someone has to live with to say, “Well, I guess it's just my cross to bear.” Yet, in Matthew 16, Jesus is not talking about carrying burdens or living with adversity. He is talking about identifying with the suffering and death of Jesus.2. The call to take up our cross is a call to absolute surrender to Christ. Although the call is difficult, the reward is beyond compare. 3. Commitment to Christ means taking up your cross daily, giving up your hopes, dreams, possessions, and even your very life if need be for the cause of Christ. Why would anyone be willing to do this? Because the reward is worth the priceToday's Scripture Verses:Matthew 16:24-26 - “Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?”Philippians 3:8 - “Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake, I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ.”Quick Links:Donate to support this podcastLeave a review on Apple PodcastsGet a copy of The 5 Minute Discipleship JournalConnect on SocialJoin The 5 Minute Discipleship Facebook Group

Being a Christian means you'll have to die.
Jesus says he must suffer and die, but the disciples can't see it. When we focus on the things of man, we can't see what God is doing. According to Mark 8, seeing Jesus clearly means seeing why he had to die, and seeing why we must die as well.
Join Fr. Anthony Messeh as he discusses what it means to take up your cross in part 6 of Follow Me.https://www.youtube.com/stsachurchhttps://www.stsa.church/the-well
Jesus tells us to take up our crosses, but what does that really mean? We aren't called to be publicly humiliated or beaten like He was. Instead we just have to humble ourselves. We must go against what our flesh wants every single day—that's our cross. But when we do that, it's so much easier to follow Jesus. Are you willing?
Fr. Mike discusses our call to deny ourselves and take up our cross, specifically focusing on God's call to renounce all that is ours and trust in him. He also highlights the story of Mary and Martha and encourages us not to allow the cares of life to choke the life of God out of our lives as Martha allowed her troubles and anxieties to do.
