What does it mean to be a good and faithful servant? Dave catches a key detail in the Parable of the Talents: God doesn't give us all the same amount of talents. God will never give us more than we can handle, while at the same time, God sees something more in us than anyone else ever can, including ourselves! Our goal is to use our talents to glorify the Lord so that we can hear at the end of our lives, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” We want to hear from you! This sermon looks at Jesus' Parable of the Talents and reminds us that God has entrusted each of us with unique gifts, opportunities, and moments that truly matter. Instead of living with fear or comparison, we're invited into joyful faithfulness—trusting that what God has placed in our hands is purposeful and that He delights in our obedience. Through this teaching, we're strengthened to step forward with courage, confidence, and hope, knowing that God is at work in and through our lives as we honor Him with what we've been given.
In this message, Pastor Eric Sebastian teaches from the Parable of the Talents, helping us understand what God has placed in our hands, what He calls us to do with it, and the fears that often hold us back. Through clear questions and real-life application, you'll be encouraged to trust God more deeply, live with open hands, and boldly step into the purpose He's given you.

Matthew 25:14-30 In the 24th chapter, verses 5-12, Jesus describes the state of the earth when He returns. He says no one will know the day. Jesus gives parables that show what is needed to prepare for that time. He compares it to a man who goes on a journey and entrusts his possessions to three servants. When the man returns, he blesses the two of them who had increased the possessions and curses the third who had stored it away. Jesus makes it clear that our time on earth should be spent using our finances, possessions and talents to further the Kingdom of God. In a fresh teaching on Jesus' parable of the talents, Pastor Roger discusses "the tragedy of wasted opportunity." The emphasis in this parable is on working, not for our salvation but as evidence of the grace of God in our lives. Tune in as we learn about the responsibility we receive, the reaction we have, the reckoning we face, and the reward we gain as we pursue the call to "be faithful to maximize [our] opportunity" by taking what we've been given and produce a return for the Master. -Featuring Roger Hirth

Matthew 25.
Don't Hide What God Gave YouWhat happens when fear makes you bury the gifts God gave you? In this episode, we break down Jesus' Parable of the Talents and why faithfulness—not perfection—is what matters to God.We're diving into the fourth of Jesus' five parables about His second coming, and this one hits different. It's about a master who entrusts his servants with investments before going on a journey. Two servants double what they're given. One servant? He digs a hole and hides it out of fear.Jesus isn't calling you to be perfect. He's calling you to be faithful with what He's given you—whether that's hospitality, preaching, serving, or loving the people everyone else ignores. This parable shows us that slothfulness isn't just laziness—it's spiritual passivity. It's wanting God without the work. It's playing it safe when Christ never called us to be safe.In this episode:* Why faithfulness matters more than the size of your gift* What it means to be a “good and faithful slave”* How fear and passivity can bury your God-given talents* Why Jesus took the place of the “worthless slave” on the cross* How to identify and invest the gifts God has given YOUAfter the Amen Question: What are the talents God has given you that you need to be more responsible with?

In Matthew 25, Jesus tells a parable about a master who leaves on a trip and trusts hisservants with his finances. On the surface, it's a simple story about stewarding ourresources while we wait for our Master, Jesus, to return. But like all of the parables, there are layers to this simple story. It's actually a revelation about who God really is —a generous Master who wants to help us live our lives to the full in the Kingdom. Jesusteaches us that our resources (financial, physical, relational, spiritual) are stewardshipcapital meant to be leveraged toward higher Kingdom value, not hidden in fear. But like the servant in the story, most of us hang on to our resources because wefalsely believe our wealth and stability are more valuable that the life Jesus offers. Byletting go of our attachment to our stuff, and by investing what we have in theKingdom, we can experience both the generosity of our Master and the abundant lifehe wants to give us.

Jesus tells a parable much like one he told before. What's it about? Let's find out together as we read Matthew 25:14-30 and Daniel 1.

Is time running out? In this eye-opening message, Pastor Wayne unpacks Jesus's parable of the talents. Discover how to be a faithful steward of your time, resources, and God-given assignments. Your daily choices matter for eternity.
Jesus' parable of the talents is an image of Christian life. God has invested a lot in each one of us. Like the servants who eagerly trade with their talents to make them fruitful, we want to accept all the opportunities and challenges that our Lord has entrusted to us. Too often it is easy to resent life, focusing only on the difficulties, and end up like the third servant who buries his talent out of laziness and fear.
The sermon emphasizes the importance of faithful stewardship of the gifts and talents God provides, drawing from the parable of the talents to illustrate accountability and reward. It challenges listeners to recognize God's sovereignty and to actively use their abilities, whether large or small, for His glory, rather than excusing inaction or burying potential. The message underscores that faithfulness leads to promotion and joy, while unfaithfulness results in loss, ultimately calling for a renewed commitment to recognizing God's Lordship and reigniting a passion for serving Him.
Fr. Mike explains sins of omission, and how these are some of the biggest deciding factors of who goes to heaven and who goes to hell: whether or not we did good works God called us to. He also reminds us that not all of the New Testament parables are universally relevant, recalling the parable of the talents and the parable of the wise and foolish maidens. Today's readings are Matthew 25-26 and Proverbs 19:21-24. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear.
