Jesus' parable of the talents is an image of Christian life. God has invested a lot in each one of us. Like the servants who eagerly trade with their talents to make them fruitful, we want to accept all the opportunities and challenges that our Lord has entrusted to us. Too often it is easy to resent life, focusing only on the difficulties, and end up like the third servant who buries his talent out of laziness and fear.
The sermon emphasizes the importance of faithful stewardship of the gifts and talents God provides, drawing from the parable of the talents to illustrate accountability and reward. It challenges listeners to recognize God's sovereignty and to actively use their abilities, whether large or small, for His glory, rather than excusing inaction or burying potential. The message underscores that faithfulness leads to promotion and joy, while unfaithfulness results in loss, ultimately calling for a renewed commitment to recognizing God's Lordship and reigniting a passion for serving Him.
Fr. Mike explains sins of omission, and how these are some of the biggest deciding factors of who goes to heaven and who goes to hell: whether or not we did good works God called us to. He also reminds us that not all of the New Testament parables are universally relevant, recalling the parable of the talents and the parable of the wise and foolish maidens. Today's readings are Matthew 25-26 and Proverbs 19:21-24. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear. Please note: The Bible contains adult themes that may not be suitable for children - parental discretion is advised.
We've all had regrets. Things we wish we said differently, choices we wish we hadn't made, or opportunities we wish we hadn't missed. But what if the most spiritually dangerous thing in your life isn't what you're doing wrong, but what you're not doing at all?In this message, Pastor Phil unpacks Jesus' story from Matthew 25 about the servants entrusted with bags of gold. It's a reminder that every one of us has been given something of value from God—something to make the world better. The question is: what are we doing with it?Send us a text

In this Sermon Extra, pastors Nick and Stephen take a deeper look at the parables in Matthew 25 and ask a challenging question: What does it really mean to be faithful with what God has entrusted to you? Should we be afraid to fail?Join us as we explore the difference between fear-based inaction and faith-fueled obedience, and how this parable shapes our understanding of stewardship, leadership, and the kinds of risks that honor God.Check out more about other topics from Pastor Nick's blog: nickcady.org
Sermon July 20 - The Parable of the Talents - Matthew 25 by Sunnybrook Christian Church
Welcome to Wellspring Church! What does it mean to be converted not just in heart and mind—but in how we handle money? In this message, Pastor Billy Waters invites us to take seriously the call to radical generosity by grounding our giving in the very character of God.Looking at Matthew 25 and 2 Corinthians 9, we see that generosity isn't just a good idea—it's part of discipleship. The Triune God is a God who gives: the Father, Son, and Spirit glorifying and pouring into one another. We're made in His image, and when we give, we share in His joy.

Significant Women with Carol McLeod | Carol Mcleod Ministries
In this episode of Significant Women, I have the great joy of welcoming Mary Marantz, a gifted author, speaker, and host of The Mary Marantz Show. Mary's story is both tender and powerful—a testimony of healing, courage, and transformation. Together, we talk about what it means to break free from generational pain, let go of perfectionism, and begin the long, faithful journey of becoming who God created us to be.Mary shares rich insight from her new book Underestimated, a message for every woman who has questioned her voice, her strength, or her ability to make a meaningful impact. Our conversation explores the process of healing from the inside out, recognizing fear for the liar it is, and learning to trust yourself as a vessel for the work God has entrusted to you. This episode will meet you in your hidden places and help you start again—with grace, with faith, and with a deeper sense of purpose. In this episode, we discuss:Healing from decades of limiting beliefs and deep-rooted fearThe myth that “more” will lead to our downfallGenerational patterns and where the chain breaksThe link between perfectionism and fearHow self-sabotage keeps us in cycles of playing smallWhy consistency is more powerful than excellence aloneReparenting yourself as an adult and learning to feel safeUnderstanding the Parable of the Talents as a call to trustHow to stop delaying obedience while waiting for “permission”Embracing your God-given gifts and using them with courageScripture Themes:Matthew 25:14–30 — The Parable of the TalentsThe calling to be faithful with what you've been givenThe importance of small, daily obedience in spiritual growthTrusting that if God gave it to you, He intends for you to use itMary's Books Mentioned:Dirt — A memoir about returning home and making peace with your pastSlow Growth Equals Strong Roots — A guide for those tired of hustle, who long to grow at a soul-deep levelUnderestimated — A book for every woman who feels overlooked, underqualified, or unsure of her place in God's planQuotes to Remember:“We are doing the heavy lifting of breaking generational chains. So it's okay if it takes us a little longer.”“You were never asked to be perfect. You were asked to be faithful.”“When we hide our gifts, we forfeit the good work that was prepared in advance for us.”“Fear is not creative. It's repetitive. The lies don't change. But neither does the truth.”Carol's Challenge to Listeners:Start small. Ask yourself: What one thing can I do today to become more of the woman I long to be? Maybe it's a simple decision. Maybe it's a single act of obedience. But begin there. Because your story matters, and the small things are never small when done with God.Mary's Final Prayer:Mary closes the episode with a beautiful and vulnerable prayer over every woman listening. She prays that you would grow weary of fear, stop giving weight to old lies, and begin trusting the God who planted gifts in you before the foundation of the world. Sean Blair | Matthew 25:14-30
This week, we step outside—literally—to escape the summer heat, joined by Brett for an honest, thought-provoking conversation under the open sky. We explore some big questions: What is our purpose in life? When is our "mission" really complete? And what does it mean to truly fulfill the "measure of our creation"?Using personal stories, gospel perspectives, and a good bit of humor, we'll dig into the pressures we put on ourselves to find a grand life purpose, unpack the weight of cultural expectations, and rethink familiar parables—like the parable of the talents—through a new lens. We also candidly tackle topics like overcoming negativity, reclaiming childlike creativity, and embracing our divine potential—whether that means picking up a new talent, switching careers, or just giving ourselves permission to dream again. If you've ever wrestled with questions about your worth, your path, or how to use your gifts for good, pull up a chair (or step outside into the sunshine with us!) for a conversation that's as real as it is uplifting. Sometimes, just being here—just existing—is the sweetest part of all. Please share this episode with someone who needs to hear it.
