this episode is for women over 30 who want bodyrecomposition, glute growth, a more defined stomach, better muscle tone, andless frustration with fat loss — but keep getting stuck between wanting tobuild muscle and panicking every time the scale, stomach, legs, or jeanschange. We explain how you CAN have glutes and abs…But the way there demands a new way of thinking aboutbody recomposition Because frankly, its taught wrong We will talk through the body recomp mistake women makewhen chasing glutes and abs… because the reason you struggle to see the definition ANDshape youre trying so hard to build Is because you keep using the same mindset, metrics, and methods that made you scared to build in the first place – well forlong enough anyway. Fatloss can reveal ONLY the tightness you builtWhile you can diet and diet your way to a smaller waist –ESPECIALLY in your younger years… its not going to have the definition there …especially not without being HANGRY and starving on little to no caloriesthat was never an approach you would have wanted to liveanyway You want energy, strength, capacity and the ability tothrive in your family, relationhips and at workPlus once you hit 35, 40? You cant wing it anymore STOP constantly interrupting the muscle-building processwith panic dieting. abs and glutes are both influenced by genetics, fatdistribution, training quality, nutrition, time, and body fat levels —  the biggest mistakeis trying to reveal shape before you've built enough muscle to reveal EVEN WHENIT FEELS SOOOOOO logical to. Like it makes sense in the moment.  • visible abs are not just a dieting outcome• glutes need time, food, progressive training, and enough patience to actually grow• your legs can feel bigger from glycogen, water, swelling, and finally training properly• muscle gain can feel emotionally confronting when you've spent years trying to stay smallSo… can you have glutes and abs? YES, but the answer is more complicated after 35you say you want muscle… but are you okay not lookingflatter every friday?you say you want body recomposition… but are you stilltrying to measure it like a diet? mini win 1:before you start another cut, ask: am i dieting because it's strategic, or because i got triggered? mini win 2:after your next workout, write down one thing that improved that had nothing todo with the scale, calories, or progress photos.if this episode hits, share it with a woman who keeps tryingto shrink the body she's trying to build.and if you want to come on for a chat about your own bodyrecomp journey, scale obsession, fear of building muscle, or the messy middleof changing your body, message me. i want these conversations to be real. find me @transformxruby on instagram apply for a free consult:https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfqaxMDfbPYPYVui3BgSClnDXTj4BWjRvPkbBHuK5CP7SQsIw/viewform?usp=sf_linkdirect link to dm me on ig:https://ig.me/m/transformxruby listen in as we unpack the messy middle of recomposition: glycogen and water can make legs feel bigger, muscle gain can come with some body fat,and changing your body often means changing your relationship with the scale, clothes, and old body standards.

Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum, an Integrative Medicine physician, researcher, and best-selling author specializing in chronic fatigue syndrome, details “adrenal fatigue,” contrasting Endocrine Society guidelines focused on overt adrenal failure with his view that the adrenals can be functionally exhausted and may be missed by standard testing and “normal ranges.” They discuss adrenal roles in stress response, blood sugar regulation, blood pressure, immunity, and symptoms suggesting low adrenal function (irritability when hungry, sugar cravings, fatigue, recurrent infections, lightheadedness/brain fog, mood shifts). Contributors include high sugar intake, chronic stress, dehydration, and salt restriction, with modern media fear/divisiveness cited as a major stressor; hypothalamic dysfunction and circadian rhythm disruption may cause “tired but wired” insomnia. They cover options such as licorice (not DGL), dietary and lifestyle changes, Adrenaplex, adaptogens (ashwagandha standards, HRG80 red ginseng study), phosphatidylserine for high nighttime cortisol, cautious low-dose hydrocortisone thresholds, and DHEA/pregnenolone considerations, plus resources at endfatigue.com.

Si and Lana discuss the "Uber drama," the hangry frustration, and whether the wrap was even worth the wait once it finally arrived. If you’ve ever sat watching that little car icon on your phone while your stomach growls, this one is for you!

There was a time not that long ago where I could feel it coming. That shift. The irritability… the edge… the feeling like I needed to eat right now or everything in me was going to unravel. And I used to think that was normal. I used to think that was just me being busy, or not eating enough, or training too much. But recently, something changed. And I didn't even notice it at first. I just realized one day I wasn't getting hangry anymore. Not the urgency. Not the emotional drop. Not that almost panicked feeling around food. And at the same time—and this might sound small, but it's not—I realized my body had found a rhythm in another way too… I was going to the bathroom every single day and at the same time every single day. No effort, no second guessing, just consistency. And if you know, you know… that kind of regularity changes how you feel in your body. And as someone who studies physiology, and also lives in a very real human body—this made me pause. Because hunger is supposed to guide us, it's not supposed to hijack us. And digestion… it's not just about what we take in, it's about what we're able to let go of.So in today's episode, I want to talk about something incredibly simple that shifted that experience for me in a really profound way—and that's psyllium husk.Sometimes the most powerful medicine isn't complicated—it's something as simple as giving your body the structure it needs to function the way it was designed to.References: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26561625/https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23885994/Eat Dirt by Dr Josh Axe

Confessions of a Former Mean Girl

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 20, 2026 20:42

In This Episode: Sometimes the medicine we teach is the medicine we need most. Seryna records this episode on the road (with imperfect audio and a whole lot of F-bombs) to share a raw, real-time story about what happened when a stranger moved her bag on an airplane and she completely lost it. This isn't a polished lesson about boundaries—it's the messy truth about what happens when old conditioning takes over, when survival self strategies kick in, and when you realize you've self-abandoned in a moment you thought you were past that pattern. This episode is about fawning responses, righteous anger, the patterns we inherit about deferring to men, and why it's okay that you're not going to get it right 100% of the time—even when this is literally the work you do. What You'll Discover: The fawn response: What it looks like when you prioritize someone else's comfort over your own needs and why it feels automatic How perfectionism is a survival self strategy (and why Seryna recorded this episode on AirPods anyway) The deeper truth beneath anger: How rage often masks feelings of vulnerability, shame, and self-abandonment Why safety is at the core of people-pleasing patterns (and what happens when you lose control to old conditioning) How reduced capacity changes your ability to respond from your unshakeable self The importance of having strategies in place for environments that typically shake you Why the work you do to heal yourself is never wasted—even when you "mess up" How to give yourself grace when you revert to old patterns under stress Episode Highlights: 00:00 - Recording on the road: Pushing through perfectionism to get the message out 01:15 - The airport incident: A stranger moves her bag and everything spirals 03:42 - The freeze and fawn response: Deferring to someone with zero authority 05:20 - Righteous rage kicks in: When the flight attendant validates she was right all along 07:35 - The spiral continues: Hangry, delayed, and ready to fight in the airport 10:18 - Recognizing the pattern: This isn't really about the purse 12:40 - The deeper wound: Self-abandonment and conditioning around deferring to men 15:25 - Safety as a core value: How people-pleasing protects but also costs you 18:10 - What happens when survival self takes control (and why it's so maddening) 20:45 - The cost of self-abandonment: When it becomes your default setting again 23:00 - Strategies for staying grounded when capacity is reduced 25:15 - Anger as a mask: Revisiting the medicine from Sacred Anger 27:30 - The medicine is for you too: Why this work makes a difference in her own life 29:00 - You don't have to get it right 100% of the time—just a little better than yesterday About Self-Abandonment and the Fawn Response: We talk a lot about fight or flight, but we don't talk enough about fawn and freeze—the nervous system responses that prioritize safety through appeasement and people-pleasing. The fawn response is what happens when your body decides that going along, deferring, accommodating, or self-abandoning is the safest strategy in a moment of stress or threat. It's the "yes, of course" when you mean "absolutely not." It's the automatic prioritization of someone else's comfort over your own needs. And it's often rooted in deep conditioning about whose needs matter more. For many people raised as women, this conditioning runs especially deep. We're taught to be accommodating, to not take up too much space, to defer to male authority (even when that "authority" is just some random guy on an airplane who has no actual power). This isn't about blaming anyone—it's about recognizing how these patterns get wired into our nervous systems and continue to run the show long after we've done years of healing work. What makes it so deeply maddening is when you know better. When you've done the work, when you teach this work, when you have a podcast literally called The Unshakeable Self—and then some stranger moves your bag and you freeze. You fawn. You self-abandon. The survival self takes the wheel, and suddenly you're not in control anymore. But here's the real medicine in this episode: You don't have to get it right 100% of the time. Your capacity fluctuates. Stress, hunger, existing anxiety—all of these reduce your ability to respond from your most grounded, regulated self. And when capacity is reduced, of course you're going to revert to old patterns sometimes. That's not failure. That's being human. The key is what you do after. Do you beat yourself up? Or do you get curious? Do you recognize the pattern, understand what happened, and put strategies in place for next time? Do you give yourself grace while also recommitting to your boundaries and your truth? This episode is Seryna doing exactly that—getting curious, recognizing the pattern, understanding that her rage was actually masking deeper feelings of shame and vulnerability, and ultimately realizing that the medicine she teaches is the medicine she needs too. This work isn't about perfection. It's about awareness, compassion, and doing a little better than yesterday when you can—and being gentle with yourself when you can't. Resources Mentioned: Sacred Anger (Seryna's book on anger as a sacred emotion and how to navigate it constructively) Brené Brown's Core Values Exercise: Assess your core values and discover what really matters most to you The survival self pattern of fawning: One of the four nervous system responses (fight, flight, freeze, fawn) The Unshakeable Self (book in progress): The focus of Seryna's current work Continue Your Journey: Deep Dive: Ready for transformational coaching? Mark sits down with Sahib “City” Patel, the founder of yhangry—a fast-growing platform that connects guests with private chefs at shockingly affordable prices. Think three-course meals starting around $60 per person… cooked in your vacation rental, cleaned up afterward, and delivered by vetted professional chefs. What started as a simple idea in London has now become a global movement—one that's reshaping guest experience inside short-term rentals. And here's the wild part: City didn't even realize STRs were half their market until the data smacked her in the face. Since then, yhangry has partnered with over 130,000+ vacation rental units, doubled the number of chefs Airbnb has in the U.S., and is rapidly expanding across the U.S., Europe, and Dubai. In this episode, you'll learn: • Why private chefs are becoming one of the most requested STR add-ons • How property managers are using yhangry to increase conversions and boost guest reviews • The surprising ways travel habits differ between U.S. and UK guests • What a partnership looks like—affiliate links, dashboards, payouts, and ease of setup • How user-generated content (UGC) from chef experiences drives direct bookings • The story behind yhangrys first-ever booking… featuring eight influencers and an explosion of overnight viralityCity also breaks down the myths around private chefs (spoiler: it's NOT bougie), the psychology of “vacation mode” spending, and why curated in-home dining is becoming the next major amenity in hospitality. If you're looking for new revenue streams, higher guest satisfaction, and a true differentiator in your market—this episode is a must-listen.___Episode Sponsored By:STR SearchSTR Search is the industry leading property finder service. This is a Fan Fav episode. How many times have you come across influencers and ads on social media promoting intermittent fasting for weight loss, increasing energy and feeling great? The issue for us as women is that we get half the story, none of the results we're really after and rarely does it turn into anything we can sustain over time. You're left feeling frustrated, anxious, still overweight and bloated, and more like your energy has taken a nosedive. The Fasting MD is on set this time with Lisa, Dr. Amy Shah, and the way she simplifies fasting for women that works in alignment with our cravings, our hormones and monthly cycles is seriously a Game Changer! Dr. Amy Shah is a double-board certified medical doctor specializing in food allergies, hormones and gut health. Her book, I'm So Effing Tired, is more like a groundbreaking blueprint for women to take control of their health like never before. In this episode Dr. Shah is laying out the foundational things we need to understand as women about our menstrual cycles and how to fast effectively to maximize your energy levels, your quality of sleep, and your hormones. Today is about how we stop fighting our biology, give ourselves grace, and learn to customize your approach to fasting, and why you'll want to start fasting, like today (or at least tomorrow). Key Pointers from Dr. Shah: 3-5 days Before Your Cycle: Avoid fasting, exercise, and big decisions - Eat high fiber, low glycemic foods. Focus on self care. Days 1-3 of your period - hormones are resetting, pay attention to how you are feeling. Day 14 of Your Monthly Cycle: Testosterone is spiking. Time to go harder on workout and make big confident bold moves during this time. How to Check-In with Yourself: How is your energy level? How is your sleep? How are your cravings? How are your hormones? Folks, you won't believe how many consecutive meals are made and not eaten in this episode, and the consequences are disastrous. In an episode in which the B, C, D thru Z stories shouldn't have even existed, LTW just says “Ozempic” twice, Joy reveals an incredible bit of self-centeredness upon Miranda's alcoholic confession, Charlotte and Harry literally just waddle and fall down, Seema stinks (literally), Anthony finally stands up for himself with the woman of the amazing disappearing accent, and then…there's the actual story between Carrie and Aidan. Jealousy, insecurity, finally sort of confronting some things (in way too quick a window, but, alas), and a surprising finale.  And…we have four episodes left to go? Okay, LFG!
