With WWDC26 just around the corner, The Trio burns off some Google I/O feelings before getting to the speculation they actually care about. Steve breaks down why AI-slopified search might be quietly destroying the Web's economic model, Aaron wonders what any of these agentic tools actually do right now, and Kotaro lays out a case for why this might finally be the year Siri stops being a punchline. 163. Helping Students Transition WellAs school counselors, we spend so much time managing schedules, testing, field trips, celebrations, and end-of-year chaos that it's easy to forget what many students are experiencing underneath it all: transition. In this episode of Counselor Chat, I'm talking about how transitions affect students emotionally and how we can support them in simple, meaningful ways without adding one more giant project to our already busy season. From elementary students moving to middle school, to seniors preparing to graduate, students often carry fears, uncertainty, excitement, grief, and anxiety all at the same time. The good news? Supporting them doesn't have to involve complicated lessons, elaborate crafts, or Pinterest-perfect projects. In this episode, I share realistic and manageable ideas that help students process change, reflect on growth, and move forward with confidence. In this episode, we discuss:Why transitions can feel emotionally overwhelming for studentsCommon fears students have when moving to middle school and high schoolThe importance of normalizing emotions during times of changeEasy reflection and closure activities for different grade levelsHow simple conversations can create lasting impactWays to support graduating seniors emotionallyWhy counselors don't need giant productions to create meaningful momentsFavorite Quote from the Episode:“Simple is often better because it's realistic and repeatable, and students remember how they felt, who listened, and who helped them feel seen.”Resources Mentioned:Year End Review Discussion QuestionsSummer Counselor Conference Remember, meaningful does not have to mean complicated. You are making a bigger difference than you realize.Grab the Show Notes: Counselingessentials.org/podcastJoin Perks Counseling Club Membership and get the lessons, small group and individual counseling materials you need. What is it about travel that transforms us? Does stepping into a new place make us wiser, more compassionate, more connected to the world? Or is travel sometimes just an escape — a temporary break from the weight of everyday life?Today, we're revisiting one of our favorite episodes with Douglas Brouwer, author of The Traveler's Path: Finding Spiritual Growth and Inspiration Through Travel. Douglas has spent a lifetime exploring the world — not for the postcards, but for the meaning beneath the miles. From childhood road trips across North America to years spent living abroad, Douglas has experienced travel in all its forms: pilgrimages, study tours, mission trips, and even encounters with prisons around the world. His work isn't about where to go — it's about how to go. How to travel with intention. How to reflect on the journey. How to turn movement into meaning. In this replay, we explore:How travel becomes a catalyst for personal transformationWhy meaningful travel deepens our connection to culture and humanityThe difference between escape and true explorationHow intentional travel reshapes our understanding of the worldWhy experiencing history firsthand changes usHow compassion and empathy grow when we step beyond our own bordersIf you've ever wondered whether travel can truly change you — or if you're planning your next adventure — this episode offers wisdom, perspective, and a deeper way to see the world.Find us on Apple, Spotify or your favorite listening platform; visit us on our YouTube channel Find everything "One More Thing" here: https://taplink.cc/beforeyougopodcastWant to be a guest on One More Thing Before You Go? What happens when the story you've been trained to tell can no longer hold the truth you're living? In this cinematic and deeply human conversation, journalist‑turned‑storyhealer Candace Lynn Talmadge joins Michael to explore grief, myth, reinvention, and the power of narrative to transform emotional trauma. After decades in the disciplined world of journalism, Candace's life was shattered by the loss of her wife — a moment that revealed the limits of reporting and opened the door to something deeper. From that fracture came “storyhealing,” a structured narrative method for processing emotional pain, and Stoneslayer, her dark high‑fantasy series blending political intrigue, demonic warfare, spiritual awakening, and psychological depth.Together, Michael and Candace explore:Why myth often explains the human experience better than realismHow grief reshapes identity and creative voiceThe moment a lifelong journalist realizes imagination can reveal deeper truthWhat “storyhealing” is — and how narrative can transform painHow Stoneslayer emerged from loss, awakening, and reinventionThe tension between fact‑trained discipline and soul‑level storytellingIf you've ever stood at the edge of a story you didn't know how to tell, this conversation offers clarity, depth, and a new way to understand your own narrative.Find us on Apple, Spotify or your favorite listening platform; visit us on our YouTube channel Find everything "One More Thing" here: https://taplink.cc/beforeyougopodcastWant to be a guest on One More Thing Before You Go? Josh and Andrew venture into Soviet Russia to discuss the iconic Dziga Vertov film shown in film history classes, Man with a Movie Camera. Make sure to pay attention and take notes as our hosts go through their thoughts on this essential building block of pure cinema, including a reading of Josh's undergrad essay, commentary on self-awareness, Eisensteinian montage (or not), the nature of “propaganda”, and a look into a time Communist Russia was sliding into Stalinism. Subverting expectations, they go into One More Thing recommending anything but movies, endorsing the all-encompassing "true crime" podcast Criminal (hosted by the honey-voiced Phoebe Judges) and artemistimeline.com, a photo gallery and catalogue showing everything involving the Artemis II mission. It almost seems the terms would be at odds--power and hope; one is strong, the other weak, based on wish or whimsy. Nope! Give this a listen.
Send us a voicemail to mark Let Me Sum Up's upcoming 100th Episode! Your friendly neighbourhood climate and energy podcast of record is about to clock up its 100th episode! And our Global VP for Marketing and Extortion kindly requests Summeruppers to send us a voicemail with your questions for LMSU's intrepid hosts or favourite anecdotes from listening to the pod. All contributions welcome! Subscribe to LMSU's Patreon for Pre-Budget Palooza or Grab our Sector Plan Odyssey Six Pack on its own! This week our Bonus episode includes wild and semi-informed speculation on what to expect for climate and energy in this year's Federal Budget. Run, don't walk, over to www.letmesumup.net and subscribe to our Patreon to check it out. And if all you really wanted from LMSU's BoCo bonanza of late was our six pack of sector plan coverage, you can grab that on its own too. — In a trend that shows no sign of abating, your intrepid hosts reconvene Global Energy Crisis Corner because, it's been another two weeks and There Is Too Much. Since our last episode global oil prices are back up but local fuel prices are down. Que pasa? Government credit on import deals is subsidising fuel? Lag to global price spikes? Panic hoarding largely passed? A little bit of everything we reckon. So where does this leave us? The crisis doesn't look like it'll be done anytime soon, time to explore efficiencies and longer term pivots to better storage and electrification we reckon! Our main course Your intrepid hosts think it's not a bad time for countries to be discussing the transition away from fossil fuels, so cue a global summit we prepared earlier! Last week the First Conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels was held in Santa Marta, Colombia. We unpack where the conference came from (a few COPs in the making!), who was there (lots of constituencies, about half of COP parties pushing for stronger action to phase out fossils), who was not there (the other half of COP countries less keen on faster action, a bunch of business) and what happened! We dive into the Santa Marta Action Repertoire (SMART) Summary, the academic dialogue of the conference, edited and overseen by Friedrich J. Bohn, Jesse Burton, Andrea Cardoso, Frank Jotzo, Sissi Knispel de Acosta, Kjell Kühne, Pao-Yu Oei, Annette Zou. From overcoming economic dependence, to transforming supply and demand and advancing international cooperation and climate diplomacy, ideas abound and some spicy disagreement between your hosts emerges! One more things Tennant's One More Thing is: the IMO Net-Zero Framework is back under discussion! The outcome was continued technical refinement work, with adoption decision not due to be re-opened til October 2026. Frankie's One More Thing is: a hasty convening of Muskovic's Methane Musings to plug the just-published IEA Global Methane Tracker 2026. What does it say? Frankie's not sure but Tennant suggests there are claims Australia's methane fugitives are *way* higher than reported. Luke's One More Thing is: some reportage on the recent high level dialogue hosted by the IEA in Paris with Turkiye and Australia, at which some encouraging comments were made from Turkiye's COP31 President Kurum on support for electrification and energy sovereignty… NOW? And that's it for now, Summerupperers. What if one journey could rewrite the story you've been carrying your entire life?In this listener‑favorite episode, we revisit the extraordinary journey of Kirsten Rudberg, whose life was shaped by growing up overseas with a mother battling severe depression — a childhood marked by instability, emotional distance, and the quiet work of trying to understand her place in the world. Everything shifted when she felt an undeniable pull to walk the Camino de Santiago, a pilgrimage that challenged her physically, unraveled her emotionally, and opened her to a message that changed her life on a steep Spanish hill.Kirsten also shares a mysterious experience she calls compassionate possession — an event that terrified her at the time but later revealed its purpose in a moment of crisis on the Camino, allowing her to help someone else in a profound way. Her story is one of resilience, identity, mystical encounters, and the unexpected ways healing finds us when we finally stop running from our own narrative.Originally aired September 25, 2024, this episode quickly became one of the most talked‑about conversations of the year. Whether you're hearing it for the first time or revisiting it with new ears, Kirsten's journey offers timeless insight into transformation, connection, and the courage to follow the road that calls you.Find us on Apple, Spotify or your favorite listening platform; visit us on our YouTube channel Find everything "One More Thing" here: https://taplink.cc/beforeyougopodcastWant to be a guest on One More Thing Before You Go? Send us Fan MailOne small request can feel like a breaking point when you've already been carrying too much and you're not sure where the extra capacity is supposed to come from. We sit with that exact moment, the “I'm quitting everything” feeling, and unpack why it shows up for so many people across work, parenting, relationships, and caregiving. When overwhelm hits, it's rarely about the final task. It's about the invisible load behind it.Our guest, therapist and private practice owner Jacque Tyrrell, helps us name the hidden cost of constant adjusting: the emotional energy it takes to pivot, replan, brace for outcomes, and regulate fear over and over again. We also talk about how quickly we label that internal work as “rumination,” and how reframing it can replace shame with compassion. If you've ever wondered why a “tiny” detail like a school form can trigger tears, this conversation offers a grounded explanation that actually fits real life.We also keep it honest about privilege and access. Not everyone can outsource tasks or carve out time for ideal self-care, and advice that ignores that can feel like one more demand. We share practical strategies that scale: delegating where you can, communicating what's realistic, sorting tasks by urgency, loosening perfectionism, and choosing one next step instead of ten. If you're tired of hustle culture telling you to push harder, this episode offers a better question: what do you have the capacity for right now?If this resonates, subscribe, share it with someone who's carrying a lot, and leave a review so more listeners can find the show. Starting off their dare of including silent films into the Take-Up canon, Josh and Andrew watch F.W Murnau's class-conscious drama The Last Laugh. Tackling the miserablist story of status, our hosts discuss the film's political connections with Weimar Germany, its place in film history, the immense talent of Emil Jannings, and a mixed response to the "studio-note" ending. Then, they have One More Thing, bringing up the Tippi Hedren “ferocious comedy” Roar (yes, that Roar) and the 70s adaptations of the fictional Japanese murder mystery detective Kosuke Kindaichi, including The Inugami Family. Next week, Josh and Andrew continue their journey with Dziga Vertov's Soviet documentary Man with a Movie Camera. What do we learn about ourselves when we step into places that test us? The exploration of our true selves often unfolds in the challenging environments that test our limits. The nature of self-discovery is intrinsically tied to the journeys we undertake, particularly those that challenge our preconceived notions of comfort and fulfillment. In this cinematic episode, Michael sits down with Miles Spencer — adventurer, multi exit founder, media innovator, artist, and mentor — to explore the lessons hidden in deserts, open seas, entrepreneurship, and the unpredictable moments that shape who we become.Takeaways:The experiences we encounter in challenging environments often reflect our inner selves, unveiling aspects we may not have previously recognized.Through undertaking arduous journeys, such as traversing deserts or navigating open seas, we discover profound truths about our resilience and adaptability. In moments of discomfort and unpredictability, we gain invaluable insights that contribute to our personal growth and understanding of our place in the world. The act of connecting with diverse cultures and communities during our travels fosters a deeper appreciation for the shared human experience and the beauty of our differences.Find us on Apple, Spotify or your favorite listening platform; visit us on our YouTube channel Find everything "One More Thing" here: https://taplink.cc/beforeyougopodcastWant to be a guest on One More Thing Before You Go? Or in other words, just a day ending in Y for 2026! Our main course This week, we read a paper from two political science researchers, Jared J Finnegan and Jonas Meckling, ‘Fighting the Future: Short Term Investors and Business Opposition to Climate Policy in which they' scour US corporate data for answers to why some businesses oppose regulatory climate policies more frequently or intensely than others. Their focus? Not differences in company emissions intensity, already well studied, but differences in time horizon. Their conclusion? Businesses with more pressure to deliver short term results are more likely to more actively oppose climate policy. Some of this is a bit Captain Obvious, but there are a couple of gems in here, even if there's a worrying reliance on US political donations data! If you love creativity, reinvention, and emotionally charged storytelling, this episode is for you.In this conversation, Lexy (writing as L.S. Delorme) takes us inside The Limerent Series, her internationally recognized collection of emotionally charged novels. Joining Josh and Andrew this week, Washington University PhD Candidate Victor Putinier takes them down to post-Summer-of-Love California for 70s cult horror classic Messiah of Evil. Giddily getting into Gloria Katz and William Huyck's “California gothic”, the trio voice their admiration for a film that refuses to draw a clear line in the sand, from its unfinished production, subversion of zombie horror, and somehow doing its own thing while learning from the seemingly disparate works of Italian masters Mario Bava and Michelango Antonioni. Then, they have One More Thing, recommending the new album The Spiritual Sound from death metal band Agriculture, as well as continuing their talk of California Gothic with the 1970 adaptation of The Dunwich Horror. On the next episode, our hosts decide to give themselves a challenge. Venturing further back in film history, Josh and Andrew will pick out movies from the silent era, starting things off with F.W Murnau's The Last Laugh. But not to worry folks, we are at Level Two and the message is very much Don't Panic, Take The Train Or Work From Home If You Can. We reckon this is a fascinating exercise in laying down markers for messaging that will be ramped up, and we'll continue to speculate over some of the woolier bits in Levels 3 and 4. WATCH THIS SPACE. Our main course There's no shortage of ideas abounding at the moment on how exactly not to waste the current fuel crisis, but your intrepid hosts landed upon the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis' latest paper, ‘The perfect storm to boost energy security: How Australia can reduce its oil exposure in the wake of the Iran conflict.' Brought to us by Kevin Morrison and Amandine Denis-Ryan, the crew at IEEFA do a splendid job of laying out the history and context around Australia's current predicament of much more marginal reserves than our IEA counterparts and while they're at it, serve up a menu of sensible solutions on the supply and demand side, to ensure we don't find ourselves in this particular pickle again. Bilateral crisis supply agreements? We're seeing some signs of that! Electrification and energy efficiency? That sounds like a thing we're about! One more things Tennant's One More Thing is: true nerd appreciation for the just launched Artemis II! A cool, technically stupendous and peaceful adventure into space! iOS 26.4 just dropped and Steve is thrilled that the keyboard finally works again. The Trio digs into the new Music app concerts feature (powered by Bands in Town, probably), which leads Steve into a passionate case for the local music scene, Guinness floats, and why authenticity matters more than ever in the age of AI-generated slop. From there, Kotaro floats a wild idea: what if Apple built their own version of OpenClaw using iMessage and their own hardware? Steve points out Apple already has the pieces in place with App Intents and Shortcuts, and the WWDC speculation spirals into distilled Gemini models, local inference on M5 hardware, and Marco Arment's absurd 48 Mac mini data center rack. Steve also reports back from his Apple Store recon mission on the Studio Display vs. the XDR, and Aaron keeps egging him toward the expensive one.## Chapters00:00 Introductions & OS Updates05:48 The Local Music Scene and Its Importance08:35 Authenticity in Music and Art11:40 AI and Its Impact on Creativity14:33 WWDC26 and "AppleClaw?"27:04 Exploring AI Model Parameters and Storage Needs28:31 The Future of Apple "AI" Services30:28 Local vs Cloud Inference: The Power Struggle32:50 Steve's Monitor Update43:13 Wrap-Up43:32 One More Thing...44:48 Tag## Show Notes- iOS 26.4 is out and Steve says the iPhone keyboard actually works now, which is apparently the highlight of the whole release.- The Music app's new concerts feature surfaces local shows based on your listening history, with ticket links through Bands in Town.- Steve makes the case for local music: cheaper shows, interesting venues, accessible artists, and the guarantee that you're not listening to AI-generated slop.- The Trio agrees AI art works as a stock photo replacement but loses something the moment you know it's generated.- Kotaro pitches "AppleClaw," the idea that Apple could build an OpenClaw-style agent using iMessage and their own hardware.- Steve thinks Apple is well positioned since they already have App Intents, Shortcuts, and a Gemini backend they can distill into local models.- Marco Arment apparently has 45+ Mac minis in a data center rack for transcoding podcasts, and yes, he rents actual data center space for them.- The M5 chips can handle useful local inference on 30B parameter models, and Apple's power efficiency gives them an edge over GPU rigs that melt cables (looking at you, PewDiePie).- Steve visited the Apple Store and confirms the XDR display has the best HDR he's ever seen, but he can't unsee the fuzziness of nanotexture.- The monitor decision is down to a glossy Studio Display or the BenQ MA Series, with Aaron lobbying hard for the XDR.## Links**Apple**iOS 26.4: Available now on all Apple platforms**AI & Agents**Welcome to Gas Town: https://steve-yegge.medium.com/welcome-to-gas-town-4f25ee16dd04#55: The "Universal" UI: https://podcast.phillycocoa.org/episodes/55-the-universal-ui**Apps**AppJawn LLC Apps: https://appjawn.com/#apps**One More Thing**SwiftUI Architecture Book by Mohammad Azam: https://azamsharp.school/swiftui-architecture-book.html**PhillyCocoa:** http://phillycocoa.orgIntro music: "When I Hit the Floor", © 2021 Lorne Behrman. Josh and Andrew thought they could just roll and tumble… live from song to song… kiss to kiss… until filmmaker Stephen Tronicek twirled them around with Terrence Malick's musical love-quadrangle drama Song to Song! Featuring a dissection of exactly how many cameos are in this, all the Christian undertones, its depiction of the 2010s Austin music scene, the spinning Emmanuel Lubezki camera, twirling, whispered Rooney Mara monologues, and the magic of Natalie Portman's abs.Next, Josh and Andrew have One More Thing, recommending Beast, starring a breakthrough performance from Academy Award Winner Jessie Buckley (Producer Ethan: oh, it feels good to write that), and genre-defying 60s British TV show The Prisoner.Next week, our hosts reveal they have one more Oscar movie up their sleeve, Oliver Laxe's desert rave thriller Sirāt.
