Welcome back ya'll! Its only been a few days since the last episode, but as I promised, I am going to be having a lot of conversations - as many as I can.  There is a struggle for the soul of a community in CrossFit/functional fitness/the world at large right now, and at the end of the day, it all begins and ends with the decisions we are making as athletes, community members, owners, and leaders.  Steve, Isaiah, and I sit down to discuss these decisions as owners and athletes, how to make them effectively, and the cost... I hope you all enjoy the episode! For those who don't know, Steve is the Affiliate Owner of CrossFit Burn, Isaiah is broadcasting from somewhere in Pitt County from a mound of unused toilet paper, and I am only just slightly relevant, lift in my garage, and have a dog that is technically classified as a rodent.

    Episode 15: Comfortable Being Uncomfortable

Welcome back ya'll!  Its been about a month since the last episode, and coming off some time away from the screen - hiking, camping, training, and planting, there is a lot to unpack - both as a fitness community and a society. Its so much, in fact, that it can be hard to know where to start to make a positive impact on the communities that we know and love. I'll tell you now - it starts with a conversation. It starts with empathy, education, and then action.  It also follows that we have a responsibility to hold ourselves as athletes, coaches, parents, leaders and...humans to a high standard.  If you have wisdom - share it. As a functional fitness community, we have spent more than a decade being 'uncomfortable' 'For Time'.  We chose to suffer together, day in and day out, to get better - to, as David says in the episode, push the needle forward.  Join me as I catch up with friend, coach, business owner and fellow athlete David Mcclish as we unpack the last few weeks together.  We talk about a lot - family, CrossFit, Black Lives Matter, education and much more.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.  I hope you come away, like I did, hopeful, driven, and as ever - ready to be 'comfortable being uncomfortable'.

What's up ya'll!  Over here doing our best to observe a tremendous amount of social distancing, and got a chance to hang out with Skyler 'The Bearded Barbell' Woolard to get down to business about training during challenging times, perspective on fitness and the sport of powerlifting.  It was also great to just spend some time catching up on stuff from the old days.  For those who don't know him, Skyler is an Elite powerlifter and strength coach in Greenville, NC.  We spent a lot of years sharing the training floor at Tier 1 - most of the time was spent busting each others balls, busting other peoples balls, or if we had time, coaching athletes.   Its hard to believe its been almost 10 years since we first met, and we've seen the continuing evolution of the fitness industry, strength communities, and functional training through very different lenses - even though we spent much of it training under the same roof.  Check this episode out for a peak into where we think things are heading, what athletes took the lockdown the hardest, and why we might just be living in the platinum age of strength training. Check out what Skyler has been up to on the IG @beardedbarbell  Had a great time making this one, and we hope ya'll enjoy it! Cheers!

What's up everybody! Back again with another quarantine-cast, this time with our good friend Steve from CrossFit Burn, and Isaiah - mysteriously broadcasting from an undisclosed location within 10 miles of Winterville, sitting on top of 700 rolls of 1-ply toilet paper (we can neither confirm or deny that makes him the best/worst prepared man in Eastern, NC...).  Great talk today about coming out of lockdown as a small business, a consumer, and a member of a community - what that means and how we can all make an impact!  Take a listen, and ya'll stay safe out there!

Hey ya'll!  It sure has been a minute - this pandemic hasn't been very kind to a lot of folks, and it certainly doesn't make it easy to get folks together around a table to talk about barbells, fitness, beer or business....BUT - even though we virtual shows haven't been our thing in the past, we are breaking our own mold and getting out there to talk to folks in the small business, fitness and beer communities to see how they are handling the challenges that life is throwing at them these days.  Listen in and get some inspiration from Mike G down in Goldsboro, NC - a coach and a business leader who is pushing forward with the mission of delivering fitness and community in the face of the uncertain, unknown...some would say unknowable...its almost like its been something we've been training for...for years...?...Cheers ya'll, and stay safe out there (..in there?)!!

Okay!! Its been a little longer than anticipated since our last episode, but we are back after vacation and back at it - with our FIRST BEER REVIEW!! ...that went so long it had to be broken into 2 parts. Its worth it though as we get through ALOT of great beer in part 1 alone.  We also give our rationale for why we review the way we do, why you can't review just one beer when there's so much out there, and lets face it - we're really just drinking beer and talking about it...review is a STRONG word. We're super excited to have AJ back, after his hiatus relocating snapping turtles, and between the three of us we managed to get through these brews mentioned in the show: Hazolutely Choctabulous (Its a candy bar in a bottle people) by Rogue Say What? (Wood Aged IPA) by Duck Rabbit Dreamsicle (WestCoast IPA) by NODA As well as some great #BackBeers:  Zirktoberfest, by HiWire Mind Haze, by Firestone Walker Appalachia, by Wicked Weed   Stay tuned for part 2 coming out later this week!
