"Homes and Jojo" (May 1, 1989) Newhart is a show about white people who live in the snow, and while 70s-era Bob Newhart sitcom is the one pop culture remembers better, this is the longer-lived, more-Emmy-nominated of the two. What the 80s-era Bob New1hart sitcom has working in its favor are future Simpsons showrunner David Mirkin, who gives a host of wacky townspeople not unlike what you'd find in Springfield, and the duo of Julia Duffy and Peter Scolari, who male a perfect yuppie couple worthy of mockery. It's great. Here, learn about it. Thanks so much for listening to our podcast! During the summer, we take a pause from the Narrative Lectionary, and we are delighted to offer three unique sermon series opportunities over the coming weeks. Today's sermon is part 2 of a 4-week series on the theme of "Wisdom." This sermon is based on Proverbs 8. We hope it will be a word of encouragement and blessing to you this week. We were delighted to welcome the Rev. Dr. Starlette Thomas to our pulpit to share it. Author, activist, visual artist, race abolitionist and archivist, Reverend Dr. Starlette Thomas is a womanist in ministry and the principal architect of a raceless world. A pastor, denominational leader and clergy coach, she is a natural shepherd of words and people, leading them to their most authentic and best expression. Starlette regularly writes on the sociopolitical construct of race and its longstanding membership in the North American church as an associate editor and the director of The Raceless Gospel Initiative at Good Faith Media. Her podcast, The Raceless Gospel, takes her listeners to church and to a virtual church service where she and her guests tackle that taboo trinity— race, religion and politics. An unrepentant academician and bibliophile, Starlette graduated in May with a Doctor of Ministry degree from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. Her thesis is titled "Take me to the water: A raceless gospel as baptismal pedagogy for a desegregated church." To find out more about our summer sermon series, you can visit https://www.williamsburgbaptist.com/2023-summer-sermon-series.html. If you have a moment, we'd also love for you to click over to follow us on Instagram or Facebook. We are a small but vibrant and growing congregation, and there are lots of ways to connect. Please don't hesitate to reach out if we can help support you in any way! Thanks so much for tuning in!

“The Child-Stealers” (January 24, 1980) A hundred episodes and one pandemic later, we're finally returning to the least offensive police precinct in TV history. This sixth-season episode sees the return of Marty and Daryl, the recurring homos at the center of the previous Barney Miller we covered. What results is an interesting look at how police are able and sometimes unable to intervene with homophobia keeps a parent from seeing their child. Listen to our previous Barney Miller episode. I don't know about you, but my introduction to motherhood was fairly brutal. I wasn't prepared for all of society's expectations of what it meant to be a mother. The messages I was receiving was to become a stay at home mom, give up on my dreams and do it all with ease. However, that didn't work for me. Neither did it for this week's guest, Beth Levine. Beth shares how she one day had a revelation in spin class, that the stay at home mom life wasn't for her. Coming from the corporate world, she knew she didn't want to go back there, so she did what was on her heart and started her coaching business. Not only did her business, SmartMouth, become wildly successful, but she also wrote a book and has been featured in the world's most respected publications. What's in this episode: What it's like to start your career during the demands of motherhood The inspiration behind starting her company, SmartMouth The transition and balance of motherhood and entrepreneurship Overcoming imposter syndrome and self-doubt The freedom Beth experienced from starting her own business Advice and tips for aspiring or current entrepreneurs You can learn more or connect with Beth Levine by visiting her website: https://www.smartmouthcommunications.com/ Want to feel seen and form authentic connections with other like minded women? How we communicate with other Church members can be as important as what we're trying to say. Women are at a disadvantage with less freedom and opportunity to speak truth to those in authority. Even when we do get the floor, sometimes things as innocuous as pitch, accent, and personal style determine whether we're listened to or dismissed. In this conversation, Cynthia and Susan explore ideas and experiences around LDS women speaking up in ways that will be heard.
