Two tips from Karin this week; 1) It's not a good idea to put your comfrey leaves in your house water-butt, next to your back door.2) Place a cane at the root of your courgette or pumpkin plantA short and sweet episode this week.

Cori returns from San Francisco with brief tales of the Endocrine Society before launching into crazy population projections (AGAIN) and then making some rather provocative arguments. What are Human Rights? Can children consent to irreversible decisions? Is the individual the most important unit of society? Are women never competent? Has Cori been wearing Nina down for an hour and a half, or just an hour? Despite still grieving her cat, Nina does a good job arguing right back and the resulting debate is actually pretty good.Links:SF TERF Central: https://x.com/sf_terf_centralEndocrine Society conference in San Francisco: https://www.endocrine.org/meetings-and-events/endo-2025The Female Eunuch by Germaine Greer: https://seminariolecturasfeministas.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/germaine-greer-the-female-eunuch.pdfSelf-fertilizing plants: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-pollinationMating In Captivity by Esther Perel: https://www.harpercollins.com/products/mating-in-captivity-esther-perel?variant=41231555362850Human Rights: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_rightsThe Center for Individual Rights: https://cir-usa.org/The Age of White Guilt by Shelby Steele: https://cir-usa.org/2002/11/the-age-of-white-guilt-and-the-disappearance-of-the-black-individual/Nina's SSDI Blue Book project (on hold for biking season): https://ninapaley.com/2025/05/31/illustrating-the-ssdi-blue-book/R.I.P. Things got real aromatic. Kat revealed the studio smells “interesting” – which led to the shocking confession that one of the guys doesn't wear cologne… but does proudly swipe on his wife's deodorant. (Old Spice? Nah. More like Mild Whisper of Jasmine.) We also geared up for Comic-Con San Diego, where grown adults in spandex and capes roam freely—and that's just the radio hosts. PLUS: A divorced dad called in with a dating disaster so awkward, it somehow rekindled things with his ex-wife. (We're not crying, you are.) Turn up the volume and your sense of smell—it's a wild one.

Smell can trigger memories and influence emotions. New research is giving us insight into how that happens, including why some people can "smell" music and why losing the sense of smell can alert us to what might make us sick.
Have you ever wondered what the food from Ancient Rome might have tasted like, how they created those iconic Roman hairstyles or how you can mummify a person today? These archaeologists have. They're called experimental archaeologists, and they work to bring the past alive. Sam Kean has written about them in his new book: Dinner with King Tut: How Rogue Archaeologists Are Re-creating the Sights, Sounds, Smells, and Tastes of Lost Civilizations.
James T., Producer Aaron, and Producer Mucho, talk about the special election in Southern AZ to fill in the late Raul Grijalva's congressional seat. Is it really that easy for Raul's daughter Adelita to win? It seems after a scandal with Daniel Hernandez, the ol' Clinton/Grijalva slime election machine will continue to thrive. However, Producer Aaron brings to our attention a third candidate, Gen Z, leftie, but purdy.
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit wisdomofcrowds.liveIt's the summer doldrums, so this week, Wisdom of Crowds is taking a break from politics and war and Trump. Instead, we are talking about culture. Our guest, Paul Elie, is one of the leading culture and religion writers in the United States. His words have appeared in the New Yorker, the Atlantic, and the New York Times. Paul's latest book, The Last Supper: Art, Faith, Sex, and Controversy in the 1980s, tells the story of artists in the 1980s who grappled with religious ideas and stirred up controversy while doing so. U2, Madonna, Andy Warhol, Piss Christ, Sinead O'Connor and many more play a role in a masterful, novelistic retelling of that fateful decade in American cultural history.Damir Marusic is curious about Paul's concept of “crypto-religiosity,” which Paul uses to describe an abiding sensibility in 1980s art and culture. Is it actually a unique category? Aren't all Americans crypto-religious to a greater or lesser degree? Isn't that the legacy of Protestantism? Santiago Ramos pursues a different line of questioning. What might a healthier relationship between institutional religion and cryptically-religious artists look like?In our bonus section for paid subscribers, Damir and Paul compare the 1980s music scene with that of the 1990s; Damir explains why the 1990s felt “less devotional and more ecstatic”; Paul talks about his first time listening to “Smells like Teen Spirit”; Santiago and Paul discuss the coming culture of “ex-vangelicals”; Santiago confesses to not having his s**t together in his 20s; Damir asks: “How can you do good punk rock if Bill Clinton's the president?”; the three discuss why Trump hasn't yet generated a counterculture or artistic resistance; Santiago mentions Macklemore's Gaza song; Paul and Santiago discuss “radtrads,” and the coming rebellion against radtrads; Paul tells Damir why he should be religious; Paul explains why electoral politics is our modern day bread and circuses; and more!Required Reading:* Paul Elie, The Last Supper: Art, Faith, Sex, and Controversy in the 1980s (Amazon). * Paul Elie, The Life You Save May Be Your Own: An American Pilgrimage (Amazon).* Julia Yost, “The Scandal of Dogmatism” (Compact). * Damir Marusic, “The Pursuit of Passion for its Own Sake” (WoC). * Damir's discography from his punk rock days (Discogs).* Damir's music with his band, The Miss (Bandcamp).* CrowdSource, “Protest Music” (WoC). In this episode I talk about what creates the fear, anxiety and insecurity in you, how it affects the relationship and use a metaphor to give you a path forward that will change the fearful emotion and energy in you as well as in your relationship. In our coaching, we help men get a powerful new mindset that empowers you to give, love and connect more deeply because you're finally doing that within yourself first. This mindset allows empathy, trust and connection to happen because you're confident in who you're being. We teach skills and knowledge that nobody ever teaches men when we're younger. Skills and knowledge that make you feel confident and in control even when chaos is going on around you. It's amazing what you can achieve when you make yourself a priority. Most men don't. Today, we're exploring the science behind scent—and why it's so deeply connected to our brains. Joining Mosheh for this conversation is Mike Kinsey, a master perfumer and olfactive scientist at Procter & Gamble, who helps create some of the most recognizable scents in household products. In this special episode, sponsored by Gain and Downy, Mike breaks down why smell is so strongly linked to memory and emotion. He also explains how scent preferences shift across regions and cultural moments (like the rise of “clean” scents after COVID), and how major brands work to predict trends, avoid fleeting fads, and develop iconic fragrances for everything from shampoo to laundry detergent. Stick around until the end, when Mosh puts his nose to the test in a blind scent challenge – with scent-sational results! #GainPartner #DownyPartner

Tara kicks off with a heartfelt reflection on how powerful scent memories can be—like roses, fresh cigarettes, and even “old people smell”—all tying back to family, childhood, and comfort. But the tone quickly pivots to national and international tension: updates on Iran's fragile state, China's military moves near Taiwan, and South Carolina's gubernatorial shake-up featuring Alan Wilson and Josh Kimbrell. As John Kerry defends failed diplomacy and Democrats allegedly try to “save Iran,” Tara pulls no punches critiquing global policy, state leadership, and what's at stake in the upcoming elections.

Dora Goldsmith is a PhD-candidate at the Freie Universitat in Berlin, Germany. Specialising in ancient smellscapes, Dora explores how the ancient Egyptians perceived and described the scent of their world. Ellen Coyne and Jack Horgan-Jones join Harry McGee to talk about the ongoing fallout from the Government's proposed changes to the rights of tenants and landlords. EMAIL: contact@lghpodcast.com Let's Go Hunt Archives - Firearms Radio Network Recipes: CRAWFISH ÉTOUFFÉE 2 Onions 2 Sticks of Celery 1 Green Bell Pepper 1 Red Bell Pepper 1 Bunch Green Onions 4 Cloves of Garlic 2 Sticks of Butter 1 Tablespoon Cajun or Creole Seasoning 1/4 Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper 1/4 Teaspoon of Salt 1/3 Cup of Flour 2 lbs Louisiana Crawfish 2 Cups of Hot Water (Add more if desired) Start out by heating a Pot or Large Pan to a Medium/Low heat. Chop the Onion, Celery, Red Bell Pepper, Green Bell Pepper, and Green Onions. Drop two Sticks of Butter into your hot pot and melt completely. Add the chopped vegetables to the pot and raise burner to a medium. Add the Cajun Seasoning, Cayenne Pepper, and Salt. Sauté for about 20 minutes. Meanwhile chop the four cloves of Garlic. After 20 minuets of sautéing, add the garlic and sauté for another 10 minutes. After 10 more minuets of sautéing, push the vegetables to one side of the pot, add the 1/3 cup of flour and blend into the butter. Once the flour is mixed in well, stir everything altogether. Sauté for another 30 minutes. Be very cautious during this time. If fire seems a little high, lower it. Around this time you want to begin cooking some rice. With about 3 minutes left of sautéing, begin heating 2 cups of water in the microwave. Add a little bit of the hot water to the pot, and stir until it's a creamy mixture. Add the Crawfish and rest of the hot water to the pot. Blend evenly. Raise the heat to where you see a slight boil. Cover, and lower to a simmering heat. Cook for about 15-20 minutes. If you feel as though you would like a thinner sauce, just add a little more water. However, taste to see if you need more seasoning. Enjoy Dat!
