Robert Pickton /// Part 2 /// 769Part 2 of 2 www.TrueCrimeGarage.com This week we tell the tale of Robert Pickton, Canada's most infamous serial killer. Robert Pickton was a pig farmer turned serial killer who hit it big with the sale of a large portion of the family farm. Instead of using his riches for good, he hosted drug and alcohol fueled parties on his disgusting farm at a place called “The Piggie Palace.” Around this same time women started to disappear from a seedy area of Vancouver, known as “The Low Track.” It took the police longer than it should have to learn that they had a problem, a big one. Some mysteries remain with this case. No one is certain how many people Pickton killed. It also would seem like he must have had some help along the way. Who else is responsible? Cooper and Nolan are taking a trip to the Hamptons this week when they spend a WEEKEND AT BERNIE'S! This raucous 80s comedy was a video store staple when the guys were younger, but that doesn't mean it'll hold up today. Still, with phallic buildings, antiquated technology, and rigor mortis all entering the chat, there's definitely going to be stuff to laugh at. So whether you're more of a Richard or a Larry, there's one thing we can practically guarantee: this episode (featuring a beer from Rogue Ales) is more fun than a day at the beach!
On this week's show, we basically lean on JP again for content. He delivers an American Red Ale, which is a clone of the famous St. Rogue Red from Rogue Ales, and then a homebrewed Kombucha. At this point, we need to seriously invest in creating a Kombucha score sheet ... Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

In this heartwarming episode, we unravel the magic of "Love, Actually" (2003), a romantic masterpiece directed by Richard Curtis. Producer's Notes (7:05) set the scene, with insights into the Bonnie Doon moments that shape the Christmas narrative. The Beauclair Synopsis (19:45) delicately weaves the intertwined lives, creating a tapestry of romance and holiday spirit that even the Grinch would find enchanting. Philosopher's Corner (36:45) takes a phenomenological dive into the concept that love actually is, exploring the always-already nature of affection and invoking Meno by Plato. At the Round Table (46:30), we shoehorn ourselves into discussions, digging into the movie's bromantic elements and navigating the terrain of spirited arguments. Reviews (1:45:22) measure the film's warmth in squirts of butter, a delightful metric of its heartwarming appeal. The Mailbag (1:55:30) celebrates your feedback, a Christmas gift of sorts, adding to the magic of this enchanting cinematic journey. Join us as we celebrate the holidays, love, and the sheer magic that is "Love, Actually." Beer: Santa's Private Reserve Toffee Chocolate Stout by Rogue Ales brewery.

Two disparate Americas have always coexisted. In this thoroughly researched, engaging and ultimately hopeful story of our nation's divergent roots, Seth David Radwell clearly links the fascinating history of the two American Enlightenments to our raging political division. He also demonstrates that reasoned analysis and historical perspective are the only antidote to irrational political discourse.“Did my vision of America ever exist at all, or was it but a myth?” Searching for a fresh and distinctive perspective on the recent corrosion of our civic life, Radwell's very personal and yet broadly shared question propelled his search back to our nation's founding for a fresh and distinctive perspective on the recent corrosion of our civic life - and led to a surprising discovery. Today's battles reflect the fundamentally divergent visions of our country that emerged at our nation's founding and have been vying for prominence ever since. The founding principles that shaped the United States may be rooted in the Enlightenment era. But the origin of our dual Americas is a product of two distinct Enlightenments - Radical and Moderate.American Schism begins with a quick reintroduction to the pre-Enlightenment Middle Ages and then takes readers on an in-depth journey through the revolutionary Enlightenment period including the eventual schism that began in Europe but then found its way to American shores. Radwell shows the impact of this schism on American history from the early expansion of the U.S. through Jim Crow and The Age of Trumpism. In an optimistic and rigorous final section, Radwell lays out an analysis of our current governmental structure and a plan to move forward, demonstrating that it is only by embracing Enlightenment principles that we can build a civilized, progressive, and tolerant society - where Americans can firmly ground their different views in rationality.HOST: Rob MellonFEATURED BREW: Outta Line West Coast IPA, Rogue Ales, Portland, OregonBOOK: American Schism: How the Two Enlightenments Hold the Secret to Healing our Nation https://www.amazon.com/American-Schism-Enlightenments-Secret-Healing/dp/1626348618/ref=tmm_hrd_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1643778919&sr=8-1MUSIC: Bones Forkhttps://bonesfork.com/

Honey bees are so cool. A honey bee worker lives for just 5 or 6 weeks during the summer, but in that time she’ll fly about 500 miles visiting 20,000 individual flowers. She’ll fly until her wings literally start to fail and fall off, and by the end of her life she’ll have made about a 1/12 of a teaspoon of honey. There were several beverages in antiquity that were fermented from honey, many of which have survived today. Mead is fermented entirely from honey, while braggot is basically a hybrid of beer and mead. In recent history, Belgian brewers have proven adept at brewing biere de miel, less a style than a group of beers that incorporate honey. And from there, modern craft brewers have started putting honey into more and more styles. In today’s episode we talk with professionals who work in honey, beer, and chocolate about the use of honey in our favorite indulgences.Timeline of interviews:6:50-23:20, 38:25-51:35, 1:07:00-1:07:45 - Keith Seiz & Alison Conklin from the National Honey Board23:20-33:57 - Danny Connors from Rogue Ales51:35-1:06:45 - Anna Seear from Ritual ChocolateChocolate bars discussed in this episode include Ritual Honeycomb Toffee, Ritual Pine Nut, Ritual Aprés, and Ritual Lavender Juniper.Beers and breweries discussed in this episode include Rogue Honey Kolsch and Cascade Brewing. You can learn more about the Honey Beer Competition and enter your commercial beers here. You can learn more about GloryBee and order their honey here. You can learn more about Hollow Tree Honey and order their honey here. The music for this episode was sampled from an instrumental version of the song “Free” written and performed by indie folk musician Anna ps from her 2016 album of the same name. It's the rematch of the century! The last time these 2 heavyweights faced each other was back in '62! What's changed since then? Well, Godzilla can sense when he has a robot copy of himself, and Kong basically lives that "Truman Show" lifestyle. But do they have the stamina to fight and level a city? Sure if the humans let them, but who cares about the humans? So grab a coldie, and LET THEM FIGHT! As far the beverages for this episode: Ken rocked the BatSquatch from Rogue Ales while Brad took on the east coast legend Alien Church from Tired Hands Brewing . Both were monstrous in flavor, and helped us get through through this one!
