Today, we are dropping another episode in our series The AI Control Loop, How enterprises govern the AI they've already deployed - sponsored by our friends at Wallarm.Wallarm is the AI Control Platform for Enterprise AI, protecting every AI workload, API, and application in production, giving CISOs the governance they need and CIOs the speed they demand. Organizations choose Wallarm for a complete inventory of APIs, AI agents, and AI apps, patented AI/ML-based threat detection and blocking that operates at production traffic speeds. In this episode, Craig Thomas, Sr. Solutions Engineer at Wallarm, examines what rogue AI actually means in practice, where the risk materializes, and what it takes to move from detection to control.QuestionsWhen we say "rogue AI," what do we actually mean? Is it only malicious AI, or can legitimate systems become risky too? What are the most common ways AI systems drift outside intended boundaries? Once an organization understands what rogue AI looks like, where does that loss of control typically begin, and who is responsible for preventing it?How do shadow LLMs, unsanctioned agents, and unmanaged AI workflows create risk even when no attacker is involved? If AI drift often starts with normal business activity, where do shadow AI systems fit into that picture? Why can an AI action look legitimate in isolation but still create serious business, security, or compliance risk when viewed as part of a larger sequence of actions? As these shadow systems become more embedded in everyday workflows, why is it so difficult to recognize risk in real time? How do APIs, integrations, and connected systems amplify the impact of those seemingly legitimate actions? What changes once those actions begin flowing across APIs, business applications, and interconnected systems? What kinds of unexpected outcomes worry CIOs and CISOs most today when AI systems are operating across those interconnected environments? As that connectivity expands, what are security and business leaders most concerned about? And given those concerns, what does meaningful oversight actually look like when AI systems can act at machine speed? How should organizations distinguish between the experimentation they want to encourage and the unmanaged AI behavior they need to control? One challenge is balancing governance with innovation. How do organizations avoid slowing down AI adoption while still maintaining control? We know that many organizations can detect risky AI behavior after the fact. But if they can't stop it in real time, what critical gap still remains? Even with governance programs in place, many organizations are still operating reactively. In closing, what's the key difference between detecting AI risk and actually controlling it?Linkshttps://www.wallarm.com/https://www.linkedin.com/in/cu-craigthomas/Full AbstractIn this episode, Craig Thomas, Sr. Solutions Engineer at Wallarm, examines what rogue AI actually means in practice, where the risk materializes, and what it takes to move from detection to control. Not every AI threat starts with an attacker. Some of the most consequential AI risks organizations face today come from systems that are working exactly as designed, just not quite as intended. An agent that calls an API it was never supposed to reach. A workflow that exposes PII because nobody mapped the data path before deployment. A shadow LLM standing up in an AWS account because a developer needed to move fast and approval processes were slow. None of these require malicious intent to create serious business, security, or compliance exposure.Rogue AI is a broader category than most governance frameworks account for. It includes the unsanctioned, the unmonitored, and the unpredictable: AI systems that drift outside intended boundaries, take actions that look legitimate in isolation but create risk in sequence, and operate at machine speed in ways that make after-the-fact detection feel like a consolation prize. The gap most organizations have is not in detecting that something went wrong. It's closing the loop fast enough to matter.Meaningful AI governance requires more than policy and discovery. It requires the ability to observe AI behavior at runtime, understand what triggered each action and what it touched, and enforce boundaries before consequences compound. That closed AI control loop, from knowing what is running to seeing what it does to stopping what it should not, is the operational standard AI transformation demands. Most organizations are not there yet.Our Sponsors:* Check out Cash App and use my code CASHAPP10 for a great deal: https://click.cash.app/ui6m/mt82fpxl #CashAppPod. Somewhere between the farm and your plate, the story of how your food is grown got hijacked. Not by farmers. By people who have never touched a seed, never watched a crop fail, never had to explain to their banker why the weather won. Dennis Bulani is a fourth-generation Saskatchewan farmer, CEO of The Rack -- one of Western Canada's most respected independent ag retailers -- founder of the Trust Your Plate movement, and author of What a Farmer Wants You to Know About Food. He sat in a room full of entrepreneurs in Arizona while a speaker told everyone that modern farming was poisoning the world. He went home and wrote a book about it. Nine in ten people trust farmers. How should Texas address rising property taxes, growing concerns about public safety, and the challenges facing the state's criminal justice system? On this episode of Texas Talks, host Brad Swail sits down with State Representative Mitch Little, who represents Texas House District 65 in southern Denton County, for a wide-ranging discussion on criminal justice policy, government regulation, property tax reform, and the priorities shaping the next legislative session. Little, an attorney and member of the Texas House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence, shares insights from recent interim hearings and discusses how lawmakers are evaluating issues ranging from rural attorney shortages and elder fraud to prosecutorial accountability and public safety. The conversation covers: • Rural attorney shortages and the concept of “legal deserts” • Law school debt, workforce incentives, and market-based solutions • Elder fraud and cryptocurrency kiosk scams targeting seniors • Regulatory challenges surrounding cryptocurrency transactions • Public safety and criminal justice reform priorities • Rogue district attorneys and prosecutorial accountability • Governor Abbott's proposal for a statewide prosecutor • Judicial discretion, bail policy, and repeat offenders • Property tax reform and school finance • Government spending and affordability concerns • Priorities for the 90th Texas Legislature Little also explains why he believes many public policy debates should focus on underlying market realities rather than government subsidies, particularly when addressing workforce shortages in rural communities. The discussion explores broader concerns about law enforcement, prosecutorial discretion, judicial accountability, and the balance between local control and state oversight in Texas' criminal justice system. Looking ahead, Little identifies property tax relief as one of the most significant issues facing Texas families and outlines his perspective on how lawmakers can reduce the burden on homeowners while maintaining essential public services. 00:00 — Intro + Meet Rep. Episode 4141 │ June 8, 2026 Congress is locking the US into a permanent military alliance with Israel by voice vote — no record, no debate, no treaty and no accountability. Scott Kesterson delivers a comprehensive breakdown of two simultaneous congressional measures — NDAA Section 224 in the House and Senate Bill S.4615 Section 622 — that together would permanently embed the US-Israel military relationship into federal statute, bypassing the constitutional treaty process, removing annual appropriations oversight, and creating procedural barriers against any future president or Congress attempting to limit the relationship. The episode opens with a 57-year legal history beginning with the illegal diversion of weapons-grade uranium from a US contractor to Israel in the 1960s, the CIA and FBI confirmation of that operation, the Nixon-Meir secret agreement of 1969 establishing official US blindness toward Israel's nuclear program, and the Symington and Glenn Amendments of 1976 and 1977 — laws banning military aid to undeclared nuclear states — that have never once been enforced against Israel in five decades. Scott traces the 2012 Obama-era classified gag order making it a punishable offense for federal officials to discuss Israel's nuclear capabilities, the lone litigation record built by Grant Smith and IR MAP through federal courts from 2014 to 2019, and the May 2026 letter from 30 House Democrats demanding Rubio answer 11 specific questions about Israel's nuclear doctrine — questions that remain unanswered as of air date. The episode connects these threads to the removal of Thomas Massie from Congress via $32.6 million in coordinated AIPAC, Trump super PAC, and Christians United for Israel spending, the concept of a managed polarization operation designed to fragment public resistance, and the 13-pillar County by County model as the only viable path of local sovereign response. What do NDAA Section 224 and Senate Bill S.4615 Section 622 actually mandate — and why were they advanced by voice vote with no public record? What are the Symington and Glenn Amendments, and why has a law banning military aid to undeclared nuclear states never been enforced against Israel in 50 years? What was the Nixon-Meir Agreement of 1969, and how did it establish the policy of deliberate US blindness toward Israel's nuclear weapons program? What is a managed polarization operation — and how is it being used to prevent organized public resistance to US-Israel entanglement? What constitutional argument exists to challenge these provisions, and why does the litigation timeline extend to 2033 at the earliest? What happens when an AI agent inside your company starts behaving like an insider threat? In part two, Steve Moore picks the thread back up with former FBI operative Eric O'Neill to explore how agentic AI is rewriting cybersecurity, the legal traps that follow a breach, and why the modern CISO must think like a spy hunter.Eric opens with a sobering reality: ransomware victims who decline to pay are re-attacked at staggering rates. He explains why criminals treat cybercrime as a business, invest weeks in reconnaissance—mapping SharePoint, harvesting file trees, and studying access patterns—and why a botched recovery hands them the same door twice. The conversation turns to the new insider threat hiding in plain sight: rogue AI agents. Eric shares a real case in which one executive's casual query exposed the next round of layoffs and triggered coordinated lawsuits. They unpack how agents inherit excessive access, how attackers hijack them once inside, and why organizations are now building insider-threat programs to monitor AI behavior.Eric argues AI is an accelerant on every unresolved problem—weak identity management, entitlement drift, missing asset inventories, and absent data classification. They debate whether IT and security should be unified under the CISO, why the CISO needs a direct line to the board, and the legal landmines that follow a breach, from cyber insurance to the “reasonable steps” standard. The episode closes with Eric's advice for any new CISO: put “spy hunter” on your resume. Counterintelligence, not perimeter defense, is the discipline that wins today. Tune in for part two of a story-driven conversation on why preparation, mindset, and threat hunting beat any single technology.Key Topics• Why ransomware victims who decline to pay get re-attacked• How attackers map SharePoint, file trees, and access patterns• The new insider threat: rogue and hijacked AI agents• A real case of an AI agent exposing an HR layoff list• Shadow IT and the cost of banning AI outright• Permission structures and second-level reviews for agent actions• Why AI exposes gaps in identity, asset, and data classification• Unifying IT and security under the CISO• Why the CISO needs a direct line to the board• Legal traps: cyber insurance, reasonable steps, and missed alerts• The CISO as counterintelligence officer and spy hunterGuest BioEric O'Neill is a former FBI counterintelligence operative, attorney, and bestselling author who helped bring down Robert Hanssen—the most damaging spy in FBI history. Bruce Bechtol discusses his book Rogue Allies, highlighting the strategic partnership between North Korea and Iran. He emphasizes that U.S. administrations have historically underestimated this threat. Since 1983, North Korea has operated on a "cash and carry" basis with Iran, providing weapons for hard currency or oil. The proliferation extends to surrogates like Hamas. Bechtol confirms North Korea possesses the Hwasong-15 missile, capable of delivering nuclear warheads to the United States. This relationship underscores North Korea's role as a primary supplier to revisionist states seeking to challenge the liberal world order. (1/4)DECEMBER 1958
In Rogue Allies, Bruce Bechtol explores the nuclear and cyber dimensions of the alliance. North Korea provided Iranwith highly enriched uranium warhead designs and constructed their underground nuclear facilities. The transfer includes advanced missile boosters, like those for the Hwasong-15. Bechtol also identifies North Korea as a leading global cyber thief, using malware and cryptocurrency laundering to evade international sanctions. This cooperation forms an "axis of resistance" alongside Russia and China, where North Korea acts as a critical technological and hardware provider. (2/4)DECEMBER 1956
Bruce Bechtol details North Korea's massive military support for Russia and Middle Eastern proxies in Rogue Allies. North Korea has supplied Russia with 20,000 containers of munitions and 60% of its artillery shells for the war in Ukraine. In the Middle East, North Korea trained Syria in chemical warfare and constructed a 45-kilometer tunnel network for Hezbollah in Lebanon. Weapons like RPGs and machine guns are also supplied to Hamas. China remains a crucial facilitator, providing the dual-use technology necessary for North Korea's robust military-industrial complex. (3/4)JUNE 1958
Focusing on solutions, Bruce Bechtol argues in Rogue Allies that the U.S. must enforce existing sanctions to target North Korea's finances. North Korea utilizes sophisticated cyber laundering through Bitcoin and lax regulations in countries like the UAE to fund its operations. Containment strategies should include cyber warfare, vessel seizures, and selective strikes. Bechtol warns that Russia and China's open support for North Korea complicates these efforts. Ultimately, hitting the regime's "pocketbook" is the most effective non-kinetic means to disrupt their role as the logistics center for global revisionism. (4/4)JANUARY 1956
