Today's episode is all about having some fun on the trail. We are joined by Andy Jones-Wilkins and Katie Asmuth, and we're playing the classic "dictionary game" — taking random words from a 1931 Webster's Collegiate Dictionary and turning them into something every trail runner can relate to. It's playful, a little ridiculous at times, and guaranteed to make you laugh while nodding along. Lace up, play along, and enjoy this one. Visits to new businesses in Beacon and Cold Spring The Chisel Robert Corio knows how to wield tools. His salon in Beacon, The Chisel, is where he showcases his expertise in creating form, whether it's the styles he cuts or the wood furnishings he's crafted. Corio has been a hair stylist for years, starting in New Jersey at his father's shop and graduating to high-end New York City salons before opening a place in Cold Spring with a twist: barbering and beer. While still a partner at Barber and Brew, he's stepped back. In Beacon, he's offering something that's neither a barbershop nor a traditional salon, but a hybrid. "We're very gender-neutral," Corio says. "We want to curate an environment that supports people." Corio believes Beacon was craving a place like The Chisel. Corio occupies the main chair, and several stylists work with him. His wife, Liz, whose background is in fundraising and development, is at the front desk. There are plans for expansion, with colorists joining the group several days a week. "We're hiring," says Corio. The Chisel, at 155 Main St. in Beacon, is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., or by appointment. See chiselbeacon.com or call 845-265-0128. Feel Good Fitness Lisa Delgado-Caccomo has worked in fitness for years, in both chain and boutique enterprises. This year, she took the plunge with her own shop, Feel Good Fitness, which she describes as "a local space" where people can participate in boxing, Zumba, yoga, spin or Pilates classes and use the treadmills and free weights. The former Beacon High School athlete says she enjoys helping neighbors "feel good about themselves." She found a location with good visibility and a multi-year lease. Before opening, Delgado-Caccomo relied on the services of Dutchess County SCORE to analyze her business plan. Nine months in, "it's trending in the right direction in all areas," she says. Most of the trainers are friends, and her mother, sister, niece, daughter and husband have pitched in. "It's surreal to have the opportunity to have a business on Main Street in the place where I grew up," she says. Feel Good Fitness is located at 301 Main St. in Beacon. The sauna and gym are open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, Thursday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. See feelgoodfitnessny.com or call 845-440-6005. The Floral Society Sierra Yaun has expanded her Dobbs Ferry shop to Beacon. The Floral Society is not a florist but specializes in bloom-related products. Foot traffic has helped the business take root in the community, says Yaun. Yaun has lived in Beacon with her daughter for three years. "The objects and tools sold at the store can be kept for life," she says. "They're not disposable." Stock includes home and garden products, beeswax candles, Japanese clippers and ceramic vases. Yaun grew up with a shopkeeper mother in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, so retail is "woven into my DNA - how people come together, and how people support one another," she says. She says she is all-in on brick-and-mortar, where people can select something beautiful for themselves or loved ones. Because of the popularity of online shopping, "gifting can be a lost art," she says. "There's something special about spending time and effort to choose something." The Floral Society, at 161 Main St. in Beacon, is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Sunday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday. See thefloralsociety.com or call 914-885-4230. Kapé Mo Filipino coffee beans have come to Cold Spring courtesy of Kapé Mo, an outlet in the Collective at 75 Main St. Mina Soriano-Elwell, her spouse, Angie Soriano-Elwell, and Angie's sister, Jessica Raquino, say they jumped at the opportunity to rent the first-floor space when a previous cafe closed. Now, it's a spot for Filipino flair, with drinks and food from Angie and Jessica's homeland. The menu includes sweet pork sausage, adobe chicken sandwiches, gluten-free pastries, chai, matcha, apple cider an...

The steadfast support of locals is said to be responsible for a notable surge in Christmas spending in Kilrush. Traders across West Clare's capital have unanimously reported an upturn in fortunes this festive period. Nationwide, punters will spend over €3.9bn this December, as traders begin to wind down for Christmas Day. The average household spend is also expected to hit €1,600, which is a 14% rise on last year. Owner of Anchor Crafts in Kilrush Pauline Dunleavy says they're noticing a significant rise in business. One of the newest additions to the town is hailing the local support for the Christmas spending boost. Hannah O'Reilly, Owner of Clan Gift Store says the retail scene has been thriving this year. One longstanding trader in the town has pointed to variety and understanding local needs as factors helping to boost business this year. George Brew however from Brew's Hardware and Gifts believes the introduction of one hour parking would significantly improve economic activity in the town. One of Clare's longest serving retailers insists buying local will always be more beneficial to a customer than buying online. Seán Dunleavy who's been in retail over 50 years and is currently working in Patrick Bourke's Menswear says local people know what others want and more importantly what they dont.

Season 4, Episode 32This week on With Bowl and Spoon, Shelly talks with Marcus Wyatt of Windy Bridges Brew about how a love of beer, community, and learning led him to start brewing his own. Marcus shares how growing up in Chicago and now calling Pittsburgh home inspired the name Windy Bridges, bringing together the Windy City and the City of Bridges. His brewing story began at an after-work happy hour where he was introduced to IPAs, followed by meeting a coworker who brewed mead, which sparked Marcus's curiosity. His first homebrew was an imperial IPA that “wasn't great, but it wasn't bad either” which was enough to keep him brewing.Marcus talks about learning the craft through a homebrew kit, working and learning at Inner Groove Brewing, connecting with Day Bracey and the Barrel & Flow community, taking part in Point Park's brewing program, and earning his Level 1 Cicerone certification. Now, he's putting all of that learning into practice in his two-car garage brewery, supported and encouraged by other brewers along the way and backed fully by his family, including his daughter running social media.Food and culture are central to Marcus's brewing vision, with soul food influences like banana pudding, and sweet potato shaping the flavors he's excited to explore. You won't find Windy Bridges Brew out in the wild just yet, but batches are brewing, tastings are happening, and conversations are underway about getting beer on tap and in cans. Follow @windybridgesbrew on socials, and keep an ear out... there are whispers of exciting things ahead.Photo credit for this episode: Lucy Schaly

The Talkhouse. Peter. Institutions. Very few establishments on the East End have had the staying power of Stephen Talkhouse. But the iconic bar and nightclub in Amagansett remains more vital than ever, even if Peter slips out by 10pm nowadays. The Talkhouse has become famous on a level that no one, especially not Peter, would have imagined 39 years ago when he bought the divey little bar with only a jukebox for music. More than 80 members of the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame have played the Talkhouse. Global megastars like Coldplay, Dave Matthews, Jelly Roll, Brandi Carlisle, and most recently, Metallica, have performed onstage. Despite the worldwide notoriety, The Talkhouse remains a deeply local, deeply soulful establishment. Local and regional acts have played there as unknowns, only to become huge-- and continue to play there. Some performers have been returning year after year for over thirty years. Employees, too, have stood the test of time. Over a dozen employees have been there for more than twenty years. No one is quite sure how long Larry has been working there, but it's longer than anyone, himself included, can recall. And then there's the generosity. Soldier Ride was conceived here, and has become a nationwide foundation to raise money and awareness for wounded American combat veterans. And again, locally, any time anyone in need comes to Peter to help raise money or other support for a cause, whether a local family or a worthwhile organization, Peter is eager to help. So please listen in to this very special episode.

Don Cox joins us this morning from the roastery. Securing coffee has continued to be a new challenge as small roasters navigate the global arena now shaped by tariffs. Coffee roasting is an art that demands focus, skill and selection of the best possible beans. Sadly we are entering into a time with the increasing influence if Ai and convenience that mastering a craft is increasingly rare. The gifts God gives us need to be nurtured, pushing ourselves higher and farther than we think we can go. Honoring God in all things. That is the root that is being destroyed in the emerging culture. Rhe question we must all ask..."What's in your cup?" #BardsFM_Morning #SeekingPerfection #GiftsAndTalents Bards Nation Health Store: www.bardsnationhealth.com EnviroKlenz Air Purification, promo code BARDS to save 10%:www.enviroklenz.com EMPShield protect your vehicles and home.
