Season 8 of Lessons I Learned in Law continues in partnership with Wordsmith AI, the legal-AI platform built for in-house teams. This week, Scott is joined by Andy Cooke, Chief Legal Officer at Perk, the global business travel and expenses platform. Andy shares a grounded, refreshingly practical look at what it means to build and lead an in-house legal team inside a high-growth tech company.Drawing on his experience at Perk and his earlier career in private practice and in-house, Andy unpacks three lessons centred on product thinking, influence and culture. He explains why lawyers should view their work as a product used by internal customers and why simplicity, clarity and usability matter more than long memos. Andy also reflects on the real source of influence inside a business: not job titles or hierarchy, but delivering outcomes that genuinely move the needle. His final lesson focuses on culture as a strategic asset. From hiring curious, low-ego team members to designing processes that scale, Andy shows how the right cultural foundations help legal teams operate as enablers—not gatekeepers—in fast-moving organisations.Away from work, Andy talks about the joy of being back home in Yorkshire after time abroad, and how grounding himself in family, community and routine keeps him balanced. This episode is proudly sponsored by Wordsmith AI — visit https://wordsmith.ai to learn more.About Heriot Brown: Heriot Brown is a leading global recruitment business specialising in the in-house legal market. We help lawyers find fulfilment in their careers by matching them with exceptional in-house opportunities, while fostering a thriving community of legal professionals who share insights, experiences, and growth.

We re-sume our Nu-Who re-watch with Series 3's first 3 episodes. First we re-discuss “Smith and Jones” where the Doctor meets rebound companion Not-Rose (Martha to her family), and then encounters a platoon of Judoon on the moon. Next up is “The Shakespeare Code” where the surprisingly sexy bard flirts with both the Doctor and Martha whilst the trio attempt to vanquish a trio of mostly unsexy alien witches. Definitely most lastly is “Gridlock” where the Doctor needs to rescue a kidnapped Martha just because the Face of Boe wants to whisper sweet nothings in the Doctor's relatively tiny ear. Seriously, who knew the Face of Boe would be such a big dick?

Paul Anthony is a funny guy. That's not just me saying that. Paul is one of those rare humans who makes their living in comedy, stand-up comedy, to be exact. Paul is the producer of The Long Island Comedy Festival, now in its 20th year. But that's an umbrella company of a lot of productions including Mom's Night Out, The 50+ Comedy Tour among others, and now The Ha Ha HAmptons Comedy Tour. All of these shows take place in a theater, locally that theater is Bay Street in Sag Harbor. I have come to know Paul as the "professor" of the "Think Your Funny" standup comedy class at Bay Street in Sag Harbor. In it, 10 civilians write and perform a five minute comedy set on the stage at Bay Street (Nov 25 8pm, tickets available on Bay Street Website), after six weeks of intensive instruction. Paul and I expound on many subjects in this episode, though most revolve around comedy and stand up.
Sarah Perry just set the women's Backyard Ultra world record with an astonishing 95 laps, covering 637 kilometers over 95 hours at Big's Backyard Ultra World Championship in Tennessee. That's nearly 400 miles of relentless 4.167-mile loops, run every hour on the hour, until only one runner remains. Sarah was the last woman standing. And in doing so, she didn't just break records, she broke expectations.A maths teacher and mountain rescue volunteer from Cumbria, Sarah brings grit, grace, and a touch of trail-running magic to everything she does. In this episode, we dive into the highs, the lows, and the surreal moments of her record-breaking run. From IT band pain and heat exhaustion to the joy of pushing past what she thought was possible, Sarah's story is one of endurance, humility, and joy.Mountain Rescue fundraosing link - https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/qr/QWwqMgZy?utm_campaign=sharemodal&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=shortlinkLinks to friends, partners, sponsors & discount codes - https://linktr.ee/teaandtrails?utm_source=linktree_profile_share<sid=1c86b2f1-b04b-4dab-bd2f-dddf47358fa3XMILES UK - Listeners receive 10% of their order value back as store credit via the link - https://xmiles.avln.me/c/RiwxnARvfHeRFenixlight Limited - Use code T&T5 for 5% - https://www.fenixlight.co.uk/Protein Rebel - Use code Tea15 for 15% off your first order - https://proteinrebel.com/Precision Fuel & Hydration - https://visit.pfandh.com/3GKxHjUPrecision Fuel & Hydration Planner - https://visit.pfandh.com/3RuP25zHarrier - Use code TEA10 for 10% off - https://harrierrunfree.co.uk/Content may contain affiliate links which help support and grow this channel at no extra cost to you.
