In this final episode of 2022, I had the immense pleasure of sitting down with perhaps the Fittest Family in Indonesia, Ryan, Inez and Sophie, from Malang. Ryan, who's been on the show a number of times already, is the co-owner of VPT Strength Club together with his wife, Inez, who is a highly accomplished powerlifting, bodybuilding and CrossFit competitor (yes, all three!) herself. Rounding off the esteemed guest list was Inez' 16 year old daughter, Sophie, who I've had the pleasure of seeing first hand tearing up the competition floor at this year's Magnus Iron Games. With guests of such pedigree and combined experience, it's no wonder our conversation was extremely wide ranging and took us from Inez' experience of competing at the 2010 CrossFit Regionals, to raising active and healthy children, and everything in between! If you are a parent trying to get your kids off the couch and away from their devices more often, or if you're an avid athlete (from teen to masters) looking to be competitive and awesome like the Townsons are, or even if you just want to get (back) into fitness and do something good for yourself, I promise you'll find some advice and nuggets of wisdom in this conversation. Enjoy!

Watch the video here - Regionals Training CrossFit is a lifestyle methodology with an aim to forge broad, general and inclusive fitness. Preparing individuals for the unknown and unknowable physical and mental challenges that life presents us. CrossFit is constantly varied, high intensity focused functional movements. It will make your life better whether you're 15 or 70 years old. Our goal at CrossFit Mountain Island is to positively influence people's lives physically, mentally and spiritually. Within the CrossFit community is a small percentage of people who like to compete. CrossFit generally is not meant to be a competitive endeavor, but it can be for those that choose to seek it out. Owner and CEO of CFMI, Coty Bradburn, spent 4 years training full time and competing at a relatively high level in CrossFit. From 2 regionals experiences (1 team + 1 individual), 2 Wodapalooza experiences (2017 Men's RX 1st place + competing in the Elite division in 2018), he has experience living and breathing the process of being a competitor. In this podcast, Owner Coty Bradburn fields some questions from our members on what it was like to compete in CrossFit and focus intently on the sport of CrossFit. He qualified 8th in the 2018 CrossFit Open in the Mid-Atlantic region and went on to compete at the CrossFit Games Regionals in Florida in the summer of 2018. In this podcast we dive into the lifestyle and daily routine / sacrifices that it took for Coty to compete at that level of competition. What a normal daily routine looks like for a competitive CrossFit athlete as well as the recovery and nutritional practices that go into successfully being a competitor. From commitments, sacrifices, workout schedule, rest days, programming and diet, this podcast will outline what it took for Coty to qualify for the CrossFit Regionals as an individual athlete and on a team.

Whitney Stephenson has an impressive athletic record to say the least. At first glance of her competitive achievements, you might even be a little intimidated to meet her. That is, until you realize the kindness, understanding, and passion for empowering and supporting others that has been cultivated by her 15 years (and counting) in elite athletics. This is not just the story of an athlete who has achieved. This is the story of an athlete, a human, who has experienced the joy and triumph of chasing her biggest dreams, competing on some of the biggest stages, and uncovering her true potential, while simultaneously grappling with questions of identity, wholeness, and belonging. My conversation with Whitney is a deep dive into her personal experiences as both a college and professional athlete, one that raises important questions about how teams are managed, how athletes are developed and supported, and how often mental health is overlooked in the role it  plays in performance. Whitney's well-spoken, vulnerable, and introspective account of her journey and all that she's learned from it is well worth the listen. You can find Whitney on Instagram @stephensonwhit and @sonmadefitness - and you can also visit https://sonmadefitness.com/ to learn more about her coaching services. The Wild Dog Pod is brought to you by Wild Dog Athletics - individualized in-person and remote coaching for running, strength and conditioning, and weightlifting based in Wellington, FL. On today's Co-Movement Gym Podcast we have Mizar Fuentes Ortega. Mizar is the owner of OPEX Montreal, a personal training gym that works with numerous clients of all backgrounds. As a former gymnast and gymnastics coach, Mizar found himself looking for another physical challenge. That's when he found CrossFit in 2009. He quickly realized this was something he wanted to pursue, both as an athlete and as a coach. With the mentorship of James FitzGerald (Founder of OPEX Fitness), he qualified for the CrossFit Regionals multiple years in a row.  Seeking to understand more, he joined the OPEX Coaches Certification program. He became a coach for individuals who are committed to long-term progress and who are not just looking for a quick fix, because he enjoys having a positive impact on people's lives and he knows that everyone has the potential to be a stronger, healthier version of themselves. As a coach, Mizar believes in starting with the basics. He encourages his clients to set goals and to understand their “why”, answering questions such as Why are they training? And Why is this important to them? Mizar is quoted saying, the common excuse of “I don't have time” no longer exists. It's more like “It's not a priority at the moment”.Support Mizar/OPEX Montreal:Email: info@opexmontreal.caWebsite: https://www.opexmontreal.ca/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/opexmtlInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/opexmontreal/Sponsors:   NativePath:Follow the link below to see all of NativePath's Pure Grass-Fed, Organic, Clean Supplements and use the CoMo15 code at checkout for 15% off! https://www.nativepath.com/ Lombardi Chiropractic: https://www.lombardichiropractic.com/ Mention the Co-Movement Gym Podcast when scheduling your initial appointment for 50% off Initial Consultation and X-Rays!  Suttmeier Law Firm: http://suttmeierlaw.com/ Mention the Co-Movement Gym Podcast for a FREE Initial Consultation!
