In this humorous but profound episode, Jeff talks to Joshua and Caleb Colson (The Bearded Bible Brothers) at the National Religious Broadcaster's convention in Nashville. With antisemitism dramatically rising and media influencers largely turning against Israel, this conversation challenges the silent majority to be more vocal and confident as they advocate for Christian and Jewish values that are foundational to the West. Jeff talks about the next season of the First Century Foundations TV show - which will be filmed in Israel as soon as possible - explaining that its premise is to enlighten North American audiences about the ways in which ancient and modern Israel have blessed the world and benefited the West in profound ways. On this episode of the Bearded Theologians podcast, Matt Franks and Zach Bechthold continued their series examining 1 Peter, focusing on chapter 1 verses 13-25. They discussed key themes including liberation from worldly desires, holiness, and the importance of placing faith and hope in God rather than in perishable things like silver and gold. The conversation explored what it means to be "liberated" on a personal level, moving beyond grand-scale political liberation to address individual obstacles to faith growth. On this episode of the Bearded Theologians Podcast, Matt Franks and Zach Bechtold take a thoughtful and honest look at Palm Sunday and the journey into Holy Week.Together, they explore different approaches to worship during this sacred time, including the tension between combining everything into a single Palm/Passion Sunday or allowing each service—Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter—to stand on its own. Matt shares why he values creating space for the full story to unfold, giving us time to sit with the weight of Good Friday before rushing to the joy of Easter morning. The conversation invites listeners to slow down, to feel the movement of the week, and to recognize how the depth of the story shapes the power of resurrection hope.As always, Matt and Zach also reflect on where they've seen God at work in their lives. This episode is a reminder that Holy Week isn't just something we remember—it's something we experience.

Zach and Matt discussed the importance of intentional stillness and silence in spiritual practice. They contrasted this with the modern expectation of constant activity. They explored how moments of quiet can be transformative. These moments allow people to connect with God. They help find meaning in routine practices like communion and the Lord's Prayer. Matt emphasized that it is important to give space for "the plane." These are those in-between moments. One should not immediately seek entertainment or distraction. They agreed that while boredom can be uncomfortable, it can also serve as an invitation to deeper spiritual reflection. Boredom encourages intentionality rather than being something to be avoided at all costs.Connect with the Beards or purchase some swag at www.beardedtheologians.com

The Bearded Reedling is a wetland songbird that's enjoying a boom in both population and popularity. Barely larger than a chickadee, the male reedlings are often photographed with their feathers puffed out to near spherical proportions, earning them the nickname of “the roundest bird in the world”. Reedlings breed across much of Europe and central Asia. But in the United Kingdom — where they're called Bearded Tits — the little birds were nearly wiped out in the 1940s. Thanks to decades of intensive reedbed restoration — and the bird's capacity to rear several broods in a season — there are now more than 600 breeding pairs of Bearded Readlings in the UK today.More info and transcript at BirdNote.org.Want more BirdNote? Michael and Kandi Thompson saw a need and they filled it. Michael didn't have any idea he would be a barber or own a barbershop but we don't always know where life will take us. Kandi owned a salon in Weatherford and noticed that the men also needed somewhere to hang out while their wives were in the salon, so they added the barber side. The Bearded Beast. Since then it has evolved into much more than just a place to get a haircut, they carry unique products and create an environment people are excited to walk into. “You can have the best product in the world but if nobody knows about it, it doesn't matter” this saying really resonated with Michael and Kandi and now they're known worldwide on social media, driving business from all over. John Pemberton Gatewood was a notorious Confederate bushwhacker/guerrilla leader. Born in Fentress County, Tennessee, in 1844, Gatewood's life took a dark turn after a Union attack on his family led him to abandon the Confederate army and become a guerrilla fighter. Leading his own unit in north Georgia and known as the long-haired, red-bearded beast, Gatewood was driven by his thirst for revenge after the brutal assault on his family. Bearded vultures build giant, elaborate nests that are passed down from generation to generation. And according to a new study, some of these scavengers have collected bits and bobs of human history over the course of centuries. Scientists picked apart 12 vulture nests preserved in Spain and discovered a museum collection's worth of objects, including a woven sandal that could be more than 700 years old. Host Flora Lichtman talks with study author Ana Belen Marín-Arroyo, an archaeologist who studies ancient humans, about how the nests are giving us a glimpse into vulture culture as well as the lives of the people they lived beside.Guest: Dr. Ana Belen Marín-Arroyo is an archaeologist and professor of prehistory at the University of Cantabria in Spain.Transcripts for each episode are available within 1-3 days at sciencefriday.com.
