Paul worked as a BYU-Idaho professor until a series of surgeries and health problems made him unable to work. The college then found a 'reason' to fire him to avoid continuing to pay his disability. He shares some of his stories of his time on campus as well as his experiences on a ward Bishopric and his ancestor's dealings with polygamy. Studies show that survivors of trauma benefit greatly from discussing their pain. Yet survivors of religious trauma are labeled apostates and shamed into silence. The #lds church paints such a toxic picture of apostates that when members find themselves on their way out, they're afraid to speak. Their family, friends, and community silence them. This shaming practice isolates "apostates" and keeps them from processing their religious trauma. Jayenna left the Mormon church 15 years ago. Cat left 25 years ago.
