Israel has always been the apple of God's eye, and that has never changed. Yet, often in today's Church, Israel is not seen as a player in God's plan. Some teach that Israel has not been important since the inception of the Church. This of course is not true. In this episode, I talk with a Messianic Jew who enlightens us on what God thinks about Israel. Thom Berkowitz is my guest, and our conversation is enlightening. This conversation explores the often-overlooked challenge every believer faces ... ourselves. Pastor Heath emphasizes that while the Devil and the world are commonly blamed for Spiritual struggles, true growth comes from self-mastery and intentional focus on Christ. Using analogies of sports and the race of faith, he encourages believers to press on toward God's calling, engage deeply with Scripture and in community. The discussion also highlights the dangers of complacency in prosperity, the power of communal reflection on God's Word, and the necessity of making decisive choices in following Christ. What does it mean to walk in the Spirit in the Christian life? Pastor Walt McFadden explains that many people live primarily by emotions, circumstances, and natural desires, but spiritual maturity comes from living according to God's Word … rather than feelings. Walking in the Spirit is not about outward religious performance or strange behavior; it is a daily lifestyle of trusting and obeying God in every area of life. Walking in the Spirit means allowing the Holy Spirit to influence every part of life … including relationships, decisions, behavior, and even finances. It is the opposite of living according to the flesh, which Pastor Walt describes as humanity's sinful appetites and old identity apart from God. What is the difference between legalism and true holiness? Holiness is not simply following external rules or trying to appear religious; it is becoming more like Christ. The goal of the Holy Spirit is transformation into Christ's image, not self-improvement for human recognition. Pastor Walt emphasizes that Christians are already declared righteous and holy through Christ (justification), while also continually being transformed (sanctification). Believers are described as new creations whose old selves have been crucified with Christ. Pastor Walt explains that many Christians struggle because they still identify with past sins and failures instead of embracing their new identity empowered by the Holy Spirit. Through the Spirit, believers are no longer slaves to sin but are empowered to live with love, peace, joy, and self-control. The Holy Spirit is active and personal. Rather than merely convicting people of sin, the Spirit actively works within believers to strengthen, guide, and transform them. Pastor Walt describes the Holy Spirit as an agency carrying out God's work in believers' lives … helping them in weakness, shaping their desires, and drawing them closer to Christ. God remains in control despite life's struggles. Christians are urged to trust God, rely on the Holy Spirit daily, and focus on growing in Christlikeness rather than being trapped in guilt, fear, or religious legalism Visit Walt McFadden at Cityview Church

Send us Fan MailIn Esther 3, we are introduced to one of the most prideful, vile characters in all of Scripture: Haman the Agagite. Haman is a character that has one sole aim in mind: the elevation of Haman. In this chapter, Haman is concerned with the annihilation of a people group he believes should no longer exist: the Jews. He is able to persuade the king to write an order to destroy the Jewish race entirely throughout Persia. This is further complicated by Haman's specific hatred toward Mordecai (Esther's guardian before becoming Queen). This episode looks at the fact that evil exists in this world and that furthermore, Christians will experience persecution in some fashion. Finally, despite the confusion we see around us, we don't have to fear. God still has a plan and we can trust Him.

Pastor Walt continues Thinking Out Loud about the Holy Spirit, and tells us that the Holy Spirit was active throughout both the Old and New Testaments, not just after Pentecost. Pastor Walt explains that the Holy Spirit's work can be seen in four main areas: regeneration, indwelling/filling, restraint of evil, and empowerment for service. He points to Old Testament figures such as Enoch, Abraham, Moses, Samson, and David as examples of people who had deep, personal relationships with God through the Spirit. He emphasizes that the Holy Spirit was present at creation, inspired the writing of Scripture, and actively worked through God's people long before the New Testament era. While the New Covenant brought a new dimension of the Spirit dwelling within believers, Pastor Walt argues that the Spirit's presence and activity were always central to God's relationship with humanity. The early Church is presented as the clearest example of life empowered by the Holy Spirit. The coming of the Spirit at Pentecost fulfilled God's plan to restore humanity's relationship with Him, beginning the “already/not yet” reality of eternal life. Christians are called to walk daily in the Spirit, experiencing joy, victory, holiness, and close fellowship with God. Pastor Walt also addresses spiritual gifts. He rejects the idea that gifts such as healing, prophecy, tongues, and miracles ended with the Apostles. He argues that Church history shows these gifts continued after the New Testament period and the modern Church should combine strong Biblical teaching with openness to the Holy Spirit's ongoing work. Pastor Walt encourages believers to view the Holy Spirit not as distant or occasional, but as actively involved in creation, Scripture, the Church, and everyday Christian life Visit Walt McFadden at Cityview Church
Pastor Walt continues Thinking Our Loud on Urban Ministry. In this episode, he tells us that the multi-cultural church is the future. So, should every church pursue this? Churches need to represent their community, need to recognize that the urban community has expanded. Churches need to provide the community and families with answers to their questions about the Gospel. The Gospel is for every person, every creed, color, and race. Jesus tells us to preach the Gospel to every corner of the earth … this means to every person regardless of creed, color, or race. Thinking Out Loud with Walt McFadden Walt McFadden, Pastor of Cityview Church in Minneapolis, is a no-nonsense kind of guy who takes no prisoners when it comes to the Truth. Pastor Walt likes to ‘Think Out Loud' about the Bible and how it can impact a community through the proper application of Spiritual Principles. Did Not Our Hearts Burn | 4: Garden of Eden: Take TwoAfter the resurrection, the disciples are not triumphant. They are confused, disillusioned, and slow to believe. Luke 24 shows how Jesus meets people in that space, walks with them, reframes their story, and ultimately reveals Himself. The aim of the series is not just to explain the resurrection, but to form people who can recognize the living Christ in the middle of their own confusion, disappointment, and unmet expectations.Teaching Text: Luke 24:30-31; Genesis 3:4-7.Preached by Russell Korets

Jesus arrived two millennia ago and completely negated this view of God. Jesus came to show that God is represented by the Tree of Life not the Tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil. Jesus understanding of God is radically different than that revealed by the Old Testament Writers. No wonder the disciples asked Him to show them the Father. Fortunate for us, He shares with us the God that He knew and revealed Him through His life and teachings. Send us Fan MailIn our previous episode, we explored how names in the world of the Bible were never just labels—they carried identity, authority, and relationship. But what happens after humanities fall into sin? In this follow-up episode of The Two Trees Podcast, we trace the story forward—from Adam in Eden to Adam in exile, still speaking, still naming, but now in a fractured world. Drawing from the ancient Near Eastern understanding of names and the biblical story itself, we explore how naming was meant to bless, order, and bring life—and how it becomes distorted after the fall. Yet even east of Eden, Adam names again, calling his wife Eve, “the mother of all living,” a surprising act of hope in the shadow of death . From garments of grace to the guarded tree of life, this episode invites you to consider how humanity still bears the calling to speak life in exile—and how that calling ultimately finds its restoration in the name above every name.
We take a look at the two trees in the Garden of Eden and discover how they symbolically represent two views of God. One view is held by the Old Testament writers and the other by Jesus who has seen God and knows God's heart. Many Old Testament writers and characters portray God as the source of both Good and Evil.

The 10 Commandments E3 — What's the purpose of God's commands early in the biblical story? Following the Eden story in Genesis, a pattern develops of God issuing commands that preserve life and release blessing. But the challenge is that often the commands first look like death before they're revealed to be a pathway to life. In this episode, Jon and Tim explore commands given to Noah and Abraham, discovering the good that comes when humans trust and obey God's words. This episode looks at what the Bible actually shows about food across different periods: from the plant foods in Eden, to the permission to eat animals after the Flood, to Israel's dietary laws, and finally to the New Testament's focus on faith rather than food rules. It also considers whether Jesus ate meat and why early Christians were told not to divide over diet. Send us Fan MailWhy are there two creation accounts in Genesis? In this episode, Tim and Steve explore Genesis 2 and reveal how these complementary accounts give us a fuller understanding of who God is—both transcendent and deeply personal.Rather than repetition, Genesis presents a layered story: a God who speaks galaxies into existence, and a God who forms humanity with care and breathes life into them. This conversation unpacks what it means to live in “garden life”—a life of communion with God—and how themes like ruach (breath/spirit), poverty of spirit, and human identity point us back to our original design.

If Life Were a Garden - "The Garden of Eden - First Life" - Genesis 2:4-15 From the very beginning, God chose a garden as the place where life would begin—a space full of beauty, purpose, and His presence. Adam and Eve had everything they needed, and most importantly, they walked closely with God. But sin disrupted that perfection, bringing brokenness not only to humanity but to all of creation. Still, the story doesn't end in ruin. Though sin damages every “garden” it touches, God—the true Gardener—never abandons His creation. Even in the midst of our mess, He is at work, restoring, redeeming, and bringing life again.

The Book of Enoch (Chapters 17-36): Enoch's Journey, Seeing Hades & The Garden of Eden by Shawn Ozbun
In Genesis 3 we encounter one of the most important moments in the entire Bible: the fall of Adam and Eve and the exile from the Garden of Eden. But what actually happened in the garden? In this episode of The Two Trees Podcast, we explore the ancient story of the first human rebellion against God's kingdom. The serpent challenges the rule of God, Adam and Eve seize control for themselves, and the result is the fracture of creation itself.
We have all heard the story of Adam and Eve. But what was the Garden of Eden which they inhabited? In this week's episode, Helen and Lloyd travel back to the dawn of time with Dr Dylan Johnson as their guide to this mythical landscape. Together, they get to the bottom of questions like:Was the Garden of Eden meant to be a real place, or a symbolic vision of paradise? Is Genesis borrowing from older Mesopotamian stories about divine gardens? Was Adam imagined as a king placed in God's garden to rule on his behalf? Is Eve really to blame for “the fall,” or is that a misreading? And who exactly is the serpent, before later tradition identified him with Satan?SUPPORT BIBLICAL TIME MACHINEIf you enjoy the podcast, please (pretty please!) consider supporting the show through the Time Travellers Club, our Patreon. Imagine a group of ancient humans, crafting stone tools at the dawn of humankind. What did these creatures look like? To find out, we can stare at the skulls in museums or glance at reconstructions made by paleo-artists. Not a bad start. But what if we move the lens and zoom into their surroundings? What was the scientific “Garden of Eden” like? Was it a lush forest, a dry savanna, or an icy cave? And what can the answer tell us about human nature more broadly?Denise Su is a world-leading expert on these questions. A paleoecologist at Arizona State University's Institute of Human Origins, she uses ever-more imaginative ways to get a glimpse into the nature and the weather that set the stage for the human story. In this episode, we focus on two kinds of “changes” in the ecology of human evolution: both the actual climate change that drummed the beat of human origins, and the theoretical changes in the views of scientists thinking about these topics. Indeed, this episode digs deep into one of the hotly contested questions about the reasons why humans evolved: "the savanna hypothesis".According to the savanna hypothesis, our naked, upright species evolved because African forests were shrinking and dry savannas emerged instead. Other apes stayed in the shrinking forests, but our brave ancestors took the shot, conquering the vast flatlands. As they did so, they started standing upright to better walk on the savanna and lost their fur, to sweat away the heat of the scorching sun. I have told versions of this story on the show, and so have many senior guests. Yet even a brief Google search will give you plenty of critics telling that the savanna hypothesis is nothing but a convenient myth. Articles by Denise Su are often included in the evidence. So what's going on? Listen to the episode to find out! The readings for this homily: https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/022226.cfmFather Chris Alar, MIC, invites us to reconsider the Genesis story in light of both tradition and modern discoveries. He notes that scientific genealogy now points to a single ancestral woman, reinforcing the plausibility that Adam and Eve were actual historical persons. He stresses that the biblical account employs symbolic language to convey theological truth, not to serve as a scientific textbook. The garden, he explains, symbolizes the state of grace—a divine communion that humanity originally shared with the Father. By locating the entrance of Eden to the east, the ancient tradition connects the garden with the tabernacle and the Holy of Holies, the most sacred space where God dwelt among his people.Father Chris distinguishes the two creation narratives, showing that one offers a chronological outline while the other provides a vivid visual metaphor of God shaping man from the earth. He reiterates that humanity is a unique composite of matter and spirit, endowed with a rational, immortal soul that separates us from animals. The episode of the tree of knowledge, according to Fr. Chris, is less about acquiring moral awareness and more about the tragic attempt to seize God's legal authority over good and evil—a theme that mirrors contemporary attempts to legislate morality.Father Chris also links the garden imagery to the Church's Sacramental life, describing the tabernacle as a miniature Eden where the Holy of Holies resides. He reminds listeners that the Sacraments are the ordinary channels through which God continues to offer the grace first granted in Eden. By understanding these layers, we can love our faith more deeply and recognize that the Our Father, the Mass, and the Sacraments are extensions of that original divine intimacy.During this Lenten season, Fr. Chris encourages the faithful to use the disciplines of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving to enter more fully into the mystery of Eden, allowing the heart to be transformed by the same grace that first animated Adam. ★ Support this podcast ★
