In Genesis 4:7 God promises that when you do what is right, you'll be blessed. But what is the “right” thing to do? Some people may think “The right thing to do is quit lusting. Stop getting angry. No longer be prideful.” And so on. While they would be somewhat correct, as it is certainly right to stop doing those things, they would also be somewhat incorrect as that is not what God is referring to. Never lose sight of the fact that Satan is not your friend. He does not care about your pleasure, enjoyment, happiness, or fulfillment. He wants your destruction. Peter warns us to “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. When you begin to doubt and question God's Word, it becomes much easier to deny God's truth. Then it becomes easier to decide to do something other than what God says. Satan's primary strategy in getting you to sin is to attack your mind. He knows that if he can successfully get you to listen to and believe his lies, he will be successful at drawing you away from God. This has been his methodology since the beginning of time. Do you desire to please God with your life? Do you also struggle with sinful thoughts and habits? In Gal. 5:17 Paul reminds us that the flesh is in conflict with the spirit – and the spirit is in conflict with the flesh. They are opposed to each other making it difficult to do what is right. In Romans 7 Paul talks about how the things he wants to do, he doesn't; and the things he doesn't want to do, he keeps on doing.
