Peering into the very late first century BC we find the briefest overlap of two individuals, both of whom would claim to be the king of the Jews. On the one hand we see Herod the Great, a capable and fierce man, full of ambition and paranoia. On the other hand, we see Jesus of Nazareth, who taught love, sacrifice, and humility. I wonder, which do you consider to be the real king of the Jews? Of course, if you’re a Christian, you’ll say “Jesus,” but do you really believe his approach to life is effective? Let’s take a moment to consider and contrast these two kings of the Jews. While exiled in Babylon, the King adopts Daniel and his friends into his royal court, granting them privilege and power. All he asks for in exchange is total allegiance. The way Daniel deftly navigates serving the king while never compromising his service to the Real King serves as a bold inspiration for God's people. The stories of Daniel in exile also introduce us to the “Son of Man” through whom God will ultimately overpower all the evil kings of the world and bring life to all nations.
There are very few who value authenticity. They might give it lip service and wave the word around without actually living it. When I was growing up I wanted to be myself, which I noticed quickly that no one really wanted. Why? Because they are afraid to be seen, and afraid to see. Programming trains us to be rewarded for putting on the “correct” face and attitude, to say and do the “right” things to get love and approval. And then there are the Rebels that are more immune to wanting that reward. But they might err on the side of looking for disapproval, which is the same shadow as looking for approval. In this King Hero interview, join us for a conversation with the hosts of “Here for the Truth” podcast, Joel Rafidi and Yerasimos Stilianessis, to talk about the fine art of being real in a world that doesn't value that. We will talk about the nuances of authenticity, honesty, and honour, and look closely at where people go sideways.Find them and their podcast at:www.hereforthetruth.com Joel Rafidi and Yerasimos Stilianessis are truth-seekers, coaches, and educators committed to helping others break through illusion, live with authenticity, and take ownership of their lives. Sunday April 13, 2025 at the Hub City Church Do You Know the Real King Jesus | Luke 19:28-40 // Acts 9:20-31 Palm Sunday 2025 Sermon by Tadd Anderson | Lead Teaching Pastor Sermon Notes: Palm Sunday is not just a day of CELEBRATION — it's a day of EXAMINATION that begs the question: Do we REALLY KNOW the King we CLAIM to follow? 1. Many people PRAISE Jesus as ‘KING' under the FALSE ASSUMPTION that He has come to give them the EARTHLY LIFE they've always WANTED. Mark 10:17,22 // John 6:60,66 // Matthew 11:2-3 // Luke 24:21 2. Following the REAL King JESUS often leads to DIFFICULTY, not COMFORT — because the world OPPOSES the message of His ETERNAL Kingdom. John 15:18-19 // John 16:33 3. King Jesus is WORTH losing EVERYTHING for because He has given us the most VALUABLE thing of all — HIMSELF. Philippians 3:7-10 // Matthew 13:44 “God always gives us what we would have asked for if we had known everything He knows.” — Tim Keller The Hub City Church is a local expression of the church in Crestview, Florida, making disciples Who Believe the Gospel, Abide in Christ and Obey the Word to the glory of God. “Christmas highlights for us the failures and the futility of all our kings, all our heroes, and even our own lives; which would make for a sad holiday if it weren't about the coming of a greater King, a greater David, Jesus Christ the Lord of Lords, the King of Kings; everything David should have been and was not.” – Joshua Reitano

If King Arthur never existed, why does he loom so large in England's history? Dan traces the real-life figures who could have been the legendary King Arthur- the medieval king who pulled the sword from the stone and led the English against the Anglo-Saxons who arrived in England in the 5th century with peace on their tongues and conquest in their hearts. John Farwell joins us once again to discuss the power struggle in First Century Judea. Herod enjoyed calling himself king, and taking the glory and honor and power of said role for himself. However, Yeshua (Jesus) did the opposite: as Philippians 2:5-11 demonstrates, even though He already possessed all things, Christ emptied Himself and came in the likeness of the lowest of civil classes: a slave. While Herod was a man filled with pride and puffed up, Jesus was humble, even to the point of death on the cross. Join us in this discussion as we contrast the earthly kingship of Herod vs. the eternal Kingship of Jesus Christ! “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand,” (Matthew 4:17) “And he went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom.” (Matthew 4:23) The gospel of the kingdom is the good news that Jesus, the good King has arrived, and his kingdom rule is marked by healing, so leave all other kings and come under the rule of King Jesus. “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.” (Gen 3:15) “I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” (Gen 12:2-3) “Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever.” (2 Samuel 7:16) “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” (Matthew 3:2) I. The Gospel of the kingdom is the good news that your long awaited King has arrived. “In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as Sons through Jesus Christ.” (Ephesians 1:4b-5) Because our King conquered sin and death and fully, completely and truly reconciled us to God, there is never a moment He is not loving us. II. The gospel of the kingdom is for those who see their need for King Jesus. “So his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases and pains, those oppressed by demons, those having seizures, and paralytics, and he healed them.” (Matthew 4:24) “And great crowds followed him from Galilee and the Decapolis, and from Jerusalem and Judea, and from beyond the Jordan.” (Matthew 4:25) “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8) richard@downtownchurch.com III. The gospel of the kingdom is that Jesus is a King worth living and waiting for.
